Broken off Keyboard Letter

hey
the letter "I" on my macbook pro's keyboard keeps breaking off every now and again, the only way i can get it back on is to click it back into place but it's breaking off more and more often. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement letter? I've only seen one place and it was in the US and was gonna cost around £5 without p&p. Does anyone know of a place in the UK or Europe?
Thanks
Craig

My 'M' key broke off, and the local store (UK) said they would send it to their engineers and get it fixed for free. I really couldn't be bothered taking it down to the store, waiting a few days, then picking it up etc. and being without my laptop....
So I used the common sense approach and asked the manager to post it to me... which he was quite happy to do... and I followed the many internet guides and popped it back on!
much easier - and it works too, look: MMMMMMMMMM

  • Nokia X6 Keyguard broken off, now permanently lock...

    Hello!
I have had an X6 for about a month now, and the slider keyguard on the phone had broken off. The phone is now in a permanent state of saying 'use keyguard to unluck keys and screen'. Obviously I cant because it doesnt work!!
I have tried leaving it switched off for 15 mins, and restating it. This lets me restart the time and date but then locks once the phone opens up. I have tried a drawing pin and paper clip to slide the keyguard without the keygoard but to no avial.
I'm going a bit loop so would love a solution to try and fix it just so I can get in my phone, then I can change the locking settings.
VIrgin have already told me I am not covered so I need to find a solution.
    Thanks!

Does it lock immediately after Time/Date input or remains active for some time (15 to 30 seconds or till you use it without stopping?)  If it gives you some time before locking, you may try this before it locks...
    Menu-->Settings-->Phone-->Phone Management-->Auto Keyguard-->Keyguard autolock period ...'NONE'...
But mind it, if this is successfull then your screen will remain active permanently and accidental use may take place..

  • Headphone jack broken off inside Macbook--HELP!

My dad recently gave me his MacBook Pro, only problem is the audio is completely broken. This occurred when the computer was on the bed with headphones were plugged into the headphone port, and the dog jumped on the headphone jack, breaking it off inside of the computer.... The piece is totally irretrievable; it's broken off far inside of the headphone port. My father contacted the Apple store and I contacted Mac Mall, and they both said the same thing--it will have to be taken apart, and could cost up to $900 to fix!!!
This is a huge expense that I would like to avoid if possible..... my question is, is there any way to get around this problem? Is there any way I can get audio without having the computer taken apart to get the broken headphone piece out? Are there perhaps external speakers that work through the USB port? Or is there a way to change the settings so the computer doesn't acknowledge that there is something plugged in the headphone port? I really don't know! I'm totally desperate. Anything helps. Thanks!

    Yes, easy way around it.
look up a JEWELRY REPAIR place, usually they charge $30 or $40
they drill into the back of the jack, then insert a mini jewelers screw and yank it out.   Ive done it myself for a customer long ago.
Many jewelry repair people do such things.

  • Right shift key broken off

I have my right shift key broken off and dont know hot to put it back on. Please Help.

    Trent,
Google this on how to reattach the key cap:
    "iBook PowerBook key cap removal"
That first pdf is an excellent discussion of how the keycaps attach.
If it won't click back in look carefully at those tiny tabs they may be broken off.
There are many places to buy replacements.

  • Do i need to turn off keyboard when logging off

Do I need to turn off keyboard every time I log off the IMac?

If you shut down the iMac and the keyboard is a wireless keyboard turning it off will preserve battery life. The same goes for a wireless mouse.

  • Tip of 3.5 mm jack broken off in sound input port

Is there anyway of opening the case up to get at the sound input port? I have the tip of a 3.5 mm jack stuck in the port and I cannot retrieve it. Any tips on a good tool to use to push back the springs AND pull out the broken tip at the same time?

Depending on the model and version of the computer, you may have to
have someone go into the machine and have the piece taken out.
Also, there is a risk of static discharge damage to electronics; so if you
just touch that with a tool and are not grounded properly beforehand,
the computer could suffer other electronic damage to the logic board.
Which iMac do you have? The original iMac G4 is a tedious take-apart
but the plug-in could be carefully made to release the broken-off part
of the jack if access were available. Later iMac G5 and iMac Intel boxes
are also someone different and vary in difficulty in gaining access inside.
That may be the better way to get the part out; through proper partial
disassembly of the case by someone who will take precautionary safe
guards before opening it and while inside. And the power cable should
be disconnected; perhaps all cables, so as to attempt to de-energize
the logic board. Not sure if the battery on the logic board should also
be removed, but if someone would be inside the computer at that level
there should be safeguards, or the problem could become much worse.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Lightning connector broken off inside iPad?

Has anyone else had any issues with their lightning connectors? I just bought an iPad 4 two weeks ago, and unfortunately the lightning connector broke off inside the iPad last night. I took it to the Apple Store, and they charged me $300 for a replacement iPad.
It appears that the lightning connector is significantly more flimsy and fragile than the old wide connector. Please be careful!

Here are some wonderful pictures of my 4 month old ipad mini with a broken lightning port.
My wife reported my daughter twisted it off this morning.
My daughter is 5 and not that strong. Not sure exactly what happened, but from the closeups it looks like a snap-off type action that caused the breakage. Notice the right side of the lightning socket seems to have its rim bent out of shape. I think the plug must have snapped off because of too much presure to the right.
I don't think the lightning socket is "blocking an extraction". I think if I can get something to connect to the broken off plug it will come out clean. Need to try to bent the tip of a tiny needle.
Please stop me if you guys have a better idea. I not going to bother with the apple store after what you guys have reported.
I don't want to open the case if I can help it.
Anyone know how to fix this without opening the ipad mini up?
    Plan:
    Needle first.
    then....
I'm looking into the super glue trick. I think I can put the ipad on a tiny vice and then find a drill press type tool to enter the center of the socket.
I am thinking of trimming down a credit card or something to place the super glue on and use the drill press to exactly enter the credit card into the socket to the point that the super glue contacts the broken off tip and not the sides.......

  • On the usb port lightning port broken off inside port

ON THE USB PORT LIGHTNING PORT BROKEN OFF INSIDE PORT

If you have a very fine nosed pair of tweezers you can try to pull it out. However take care, if you put any scratches on the device and something goes wrong with your port in the future, someone could use those scratches to void the warranty. (ANY visible damage can be grounds to not honor the warranty)
If you have an apple store nearby, I'd make an appointment and take it in and see if they can remove it.

  • Power plug broken off in computer

This is on behalf of my son, who is developmentally disabled. The plug-in mechanism/part of his iBook G4 (purchased in spring 2005) has apparently broken off in the computer. He bought AppleCare when he bought the computer but failed to send in the paperwork or register it or something, so it is no longer covered by warranty. Apparently he did get a notice in the mail at some point that the warranty was about to expire, but due to his moving out of state, the notice got to him too late.
He is living in another state, and I recently brought the computer back home with me after a visit to see if I could figure out how to fix it. He says he was given an estimate (maybe at CompUSA in Omaha, NE?) of $800 to take the computer apart and fix the problem.
I looked up a web site about disassembling this computer, and it looks like more than I am comfortable with doing.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get to this part of the computer in a less "invasive" manner? The battery is completely depleted, so I can't power up the computer or anything at this point.
Might there be a way to get a charger for the battery so it can be charged up outside the computer? That might be a stopgap measure.
    Thanks,
    Linda

Just to clarify... He bought the iBook at CompUSA in Madison, WI. He lives in Omaha, NE, and got the repair estimate there. I live about an hour's drive from Madison, in the boonies of SW Wisconsin. He didn't buy it from the Apple Store. Thanks for the online references. I'll check them out, and maybe next time I go to Madison (Friday) I'll take the iBook with me and ask CompUSA to look at it.
I did try the needle-nosed pliers route -- it didn't work. But I'm not sure what I'm looking at, really. I'll look at the computers on display, too. My goal is to try to get this fixed by New Year's when I will see him again.
    Thanks,
    Linda

  • Macbook Pro letter fell off keyboard

I have a Macbook Pro and one letter fell off my keyboard. How do you put the letter back onto the keyboard?

I'd take it to my local Apple Store and have them do it. Never had a key fall off myself, but you should still be under warranty if it's a late 2011.
    Good luck,

  • Replace a key that fell off keyboard

    Hi There,
I can't seem to put back a key that fell off the keyboard of my daughter's graphite ibook. It doesn't seem broken but I wondered if there was a trick that I'm missing.
    Thanks
macbook pro, imac, ibook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Sometimes these keys can be tricky to get back on. What you should be able to do is place the key exactly where it should go and then press down on it and it should snap into place without you even having to do anything. Unfortunately this doesn't always work, but with some attempts to get it back on you should usually get it.
Sorry If I couldn't be of that much assistance.

  • Left command key has broken off - how to replace?

So a few days ago I caught my left command key with my nail and the top half of it lifted away from the mechanism underneath. I pressed it until I heard it click back into place and then merrily continued using my computer as usual. Today I was typing and the whole thing just came off under my thumb, which is annoying to say the least.
The biggest issue is that as I was trying to reconnect key to mechanism, the little criss-cross doohickey came off as well! I am left with a little silicon nipple which, while titilating, is not really conducive to the kind of high volume typing I'm used to!
I really don't want to pay 40 bucks to get Apple Support to replace a single key for me - I just need to know how to do it myself. It's only one key and I could probably learn to get used to using the right one, but it would be easier if I could just click it back into place. It's not broken, the mechanism itself seems fine and the key works if I push the little nubbin, so I'm not concerned about that. I just think $40 is too much to pay someone to click a key back into place! I wasn't even doing anything out of the ordinary with it like trying to remove or replace the keys T^T
I'm especially gutted since I just bought a new iPhone from the same Apple shop I bought my laptop like three days ago - if I'd known my laptop was gonna bust I'd have saved myself the money and spent it on repairs instead! Fml, right?
Any help you folks can offer would be very gratefully received - if it comes down to it and I have to fork out the money then I'll do so, but I'd like to explore community options first on the off chance that someone knows how to replace the mechanism and key without having to lug my computer all the way into the city to get it fixed xD
    Thanks in advance!
    Ehryn

It's pretty easy to do, get something thin like a credit card and run it along the bottom and sides of the keyboard and there are several bracket things that will pop the keyboard up when you pressure them. There will be a couple of cables to clip out behind it so lift it up gently.
You should be able to find a video on youtube anyway!
Try this site for the keyboard http://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/toshiba_qosmio_laptop_key.html
It shouldn't be too hard to track a replacement down.

  • My ipod touch isn't turning the screen off or letting me get off an app

I was recently on my settings trying to delete things to create more space, and all of the sudden I try to get back home (using the home button) and it won't go anywhere. Then I tried resetting it pressing the home and power button and that didn't work either.  Any ideas on how to fix this?
