  • Watermark Photos in Photoshop CS4??

Is there a way I can batch Watermark photos in Photoshop CS4?? I have around 50 pictures that I take for my new photography business. I will send the company most of the pictures, but I want them all watermarked so they can not steal them. They will buy the ones they like.
What is the best way to do this???? I am new to photoshop, so please be detailed. Thank you

I have made available a package  on crafting Photoshop Actions that package I include a sample action set.  In that action set there is a sample action that will add three watermarks to any size image and be sized appropriately for that images pixel size.
The action uses one Photoshop Scripts that can save and restore an images resolution so an action can use the script to save the images resolution it is then free to scale the images print size so that it can properly size thing like watermarks for the action can use the script again and the script will restore the image back to its original print resolution.  The sample action shows how to use a Custom shape layer a custom color logo layer and a text layer for watermarking images. Example
The package can be downloaded from  http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/JJMacksCraftingActions.zip
    Contains:
    Action Actions Palette Tips.txt
    Action Creation Guidelines.txt
    Action Dealing with Image Size.txt
Action Enhanced via Scripted Photoshop Functions.txt
    CraftedActions.atn Sample Action set
Sample Actions.txt Photoshop CraftedActions set saved as a text file. This file has some additional comments I inserted describing how the actions work.
And a dozen of my Photoshop Scripts to be used with in Photoshop Actions.

  • Editing iPhoto photos in Photoshop CS4 and saving a copy

I'm relatively new to Mac and am trying to figure out my workflow. I like a lot of the features of iPhoto, but I'm struggling with something critical.
Typically, when I edit a jpeg in photoshop, i like to save the modified version as a copy either with a -01 suffix or I create another folder in the file's original folder named 'Revised' or something like that and save the copies in there. I don't see how I can get the iPhoto event to update to include the added file. It seems clear that it definitely won't add the folder.
I've noticed that Lightroom does the same thing. Once a folder is imported, it doesn't seem to go back and check to see if changes were made in an external program.
Perhaps it's possible to force an update, but that doesn't really solve it either, unless I'm willing to go in and update the folder/event after every edit I make is PS.
Anyone know if I'm missing something or have a recommendation on how to work more effectively?
    Thanks!

If you're not editing RAW file then the following may be of some help to you:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Post-process a sunset photo with Photoshop CS4

I recently took a nice photo of a desert sunset photo at Joshua Tree, CA.  I think the photo looks great, but I am sure it would look much better with a little post-processing help from CS4.  For those of you that use CS4, what do you normally do to a sunset photo in CS4 to make it look "show" quality?  Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated.
    Stephen Reeves,
    Hobby photographer

Stephen - This is a classic example of an image that begs to be converted to L*a*b and worked on in that color space. Of course, it's better to start with an original raw file, and sunset gradients are notorious for banding  when manipulated from jpegs, but you'll get the idea. What I did here was to convert to L*a*b and then make a Curves Adjustment Layer, steepening the "a" and "b" channel curves, but instead of the usual method of keeping the center point neutral, I let the "a" channel go toward magenta and the "b" channel go both yellow and deeper blue at the same time. That was great for the sky but a but much for the foreground, so I masked about fifty percent off the foreground with a couple of brush swipes. Convert back to RGB and a quick Curves Adjustment Layer to darken the top and bottom of the image to add even more drama. What started out as a fairly bland image is now a lot more interesting. One of the big advantages of Lab over whatever the previous poster tried is that Lab maintains, and in fact, added some warm color to the highlight area of the sunset. While this is an advanced correction technique, it's also one that is very fast and very effective. And take into account this was done in CS1 with a trackpad on a non calibrated laptop, but you get the idea.

  • Saving Jpeg in Photoshop CS4 and having problems

Okay, i have been looking all over the internet and i hope it's something really foolish...
After editing a photo in Photoshop (CS4) and saving it as a JPEG / JPG, many people using windows can't open the file, and it gets the extension .JPGG ( ...?... )
If I import the picture in Iphoto first and then mail it ther is no problem.
perhaps this is quite obvious to some, but it's a mystery to me.
To update my website i need to save my JPG files to an XML folder and then flash reads the files and opens them in the site.
The JPG files i saved using photoshop won't open in the site, even worse, the site won't even load because the loader gets 'stuck'.
i tried putting them in Iphoto first because that helped with with mailing, but it doesn't seem to be working this time.
I've tried all the JPG saving options like Baseline etc. converted them to RGB ( they already were) so i'm out of options.
    ANYONE ?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I have CS3 so don't know if there's major changes to the formatting process by each version. That may be a question to ask in the Adobe support forum.
However, for a workaround you might try using the Automator workflow I created to change any image file to jpg with the sRGB color profile. Just drag the files onto the workflow icon and they will be converted. You can get it, "Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile", at Toad's Cellar. See if those jpgs will work OK. There will be some jpeg compression applied but if they are for posting on the web it may not be objectionable.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Photoshop CS4 and the mysterious vanishing marching ants...

About ten minutes ago, as I was cropping photos in Photoshop CS4, the marquee tools suddenly lost their marching ants.
Now, when I click on the rectangular marquee tool and move the cursor to select an area, the outline of the selected area is invisible - until I let go of the mouse, when it suddenly appears as a solid line.
I assume I must've turned the marching ants off somehow by mistake. How do I turn them back on?
A swift web search suggests that I can hit Control+H or Command+H to turn the marching ants on and off. Neither of these work for me.
Other suggestions I've found are to 'reset' the tool (how?) - or install a new video card, which surely can't be an issue in my case. I have not installed any updates - this literally happened minutes ago, in mid-job.
I'm using a Mac, OSX 10.8.5 if that makes any difference…
There MUST be a simple 'click on such-and-such' solution. Thanks in advance if you know it!

Slight update - I have now discovered how to reset tools in Photoshop. Basically, I did what the video in the link below suggests.
    It didn't make any difference.
When I selected the rectangular marquee tool for resetting, a message in the box said  'No presets defined for current tool' - which presumably means there was nothing to reset. That would explain why it didn't work, then.
So if the marquee tools did not have any presets, why did the marching ants turn off - and how do I get them back?

  • Mouse flickering on top of brush point in Photoshop CS4...

Recently the mouse has started flickering and not lining up with brushes when I'm editing photos in Photoshop CS4. When I use a brush, the mouse arrow will appear, flickering overtop of where the brush point is (the brush point flickers too when I move the mouse) so I can't see what I'm doing exactly. Really hoping someone can help! I installed the latest updates of Photoshop CS4 and it didn't help. Thank you!

    Mac OSX 10.8.4
I really can't think of anything that has changed. I've just been using Photoshop the way I usually use it. I wish I could think of an easy fix! It strange because I don't even know where brush point is going to start working when I click because the arrow will sometimes flicker on top of the brush point and then sometimes an inch or more away from where the invisible brush is. I wish I could explain it more clearly. I tried to take a screenshot but arrows dissapear in screenshots. : S
Thank you for trying to help!

  • Photoshop CS4 - Merge Down vs Merge Visible?

Hello, this might be my first time on any of the Adobe forums.  It's about time I came aboard...
Working with a photo in Photoshop CS4, and after doing many edits, I am ready to merge the layers.  For the life of me, I cannot seem to figure out what the difference is between Merge Down and Merge Visible.  I have tried both alternatives, and yet cannot locate the differences.
    Thank you for any help.

  • Transferring Windows Photoshop CS2 web photo gallery styles in Mac Photoshop CS4 web photo gallery

    Hi,
My name is JatinderPal Singh. I'm migrating from Vista to MAC and before I purchase the upgrade from Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop CS4 I need to know that can I continue to use my existing web photo gallery styles in CS4 after installing the add-on feature. Because I know web photo gallery is not default in CS4. We need to manually add this feature. I hear from other photographers that  this is a problem. Can you please confirm that this is possible

    Check this out:

Remember to install the Picture Package too.
Additionally, make sure you have updated to Photoshop 11.0.1 and applie the update to AOM, the Adobe Output Module.

  • Unable to print from a Mac using Maverick 10.9.2 on an Epson Photo printer with Photoshop CS4. Can you help?

I am trying to print in Photoshop CS4 on an Epson Photo printer (3880) from my Mac. I just upgraded to Maverick 10.9.2 when the problem started. Can you help.

I have the answer. It took quite a while but I know why the 3880 won't print from Photoshop 4 with Maverick. It is due to the Epson .icc page description files. The way to solve the problem is to make your own .icc. OK, so you don't know how to do it. This is what I did so now I get the quality prints I expect from an expensive printer.
You need to go to www.datacolor.com/spyderprint and purchase the Spyderprint hardware and software. It comes as a package for $300 to $350 depending on if you get a sale. The software will print on the 3880 test sheets of color blocks. With the hardware reader you then read the colors on the test sheets printed. What this does is match the monitor image with the printer, ink and paper you used. It makes an .icc page description file for you to select instead of the Epson .icc file. When you print again select the new .icc file and also choose "Printer Manages Colors" instead of "Photoshop Manages Colors" I know this is usual but it works. When you are done you will be smiling too with your beautiful results.
One other thing. If you want, it is optional, also purchase the Spider 4 Pro for $150. It calibrates your monitor and helps make excellent prints.
I understand it is more money and you already probably have a good computer, expensive camera to go with the 3880 so spend the extra money so it all works together.
    I hope this helps.

  • I have photoshop CS4 with the newest update. I'm a photographer and just purchased the new canon 7d mk II. Today, I shot some photos on raw but am unable to pull them up in photoshop. A window pops up saying "photoshop cannot recognize this type of file.

I have photoshop CS4 with the newest update. I'm a photographer and just purchased the new canon 7d mk II. Today, I shot some photos on raw but am unable to pull them up in photoshop. A window pops up saying "photoshop cannot recognize this type of file. The thumbnails are white with a blue and white CR2 on them. Please help.

Adobe Camera Raw 5.7 is the latest for Photoshop CS4 Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows
The problem is that your new camera is supported by ACR 8.7 and only Photoshop CS6 and up supports this version.
So if you do not want to buy CS6 or subscribe to the $10/month Photography Program, you have to convert the CR2 files to DNG to work on them. Your original CR2s are untouched in the process, you just can't directly edit them in CS4, only the DNGs.
Maybe Canon offers editing software for their CR2s, but CS4 is not going to be updated and there is no way around that.
It's not what you want to hear, but that's the situation so far.
Maybe Elements or Lightroom has updated raw support for your camera, so I encourage you to visit those forums and ask.

My photoshop CS4 keeps crashing while I am in the middle of editing a photo. I am running Mac OS X 10.9.4. I have tried to contact support and I was directed here.

You were redirected to this user forum because CS4 is no longer supported by Adobe at all.
We'll need a lot more info before we can help.
You'll have to manually determine whether Photoshop CS4 is updated to version 11.0.2 (the Adobe auto updater is most unreliable in CS4), and give us plenty of other information.
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.

  • Web Photo Gallery Missing from Photoshop CS4

Has anyone else found this to be valuable feature that is no longer available? We used this feature regularly as a method for proofing our customers and I have found that the one that is included in Bridge is sorely lacking from the Photoshop version.
Has anyone found a solution or something that works similarly that is can be customized as deeply?

Just to let you know that I followed the instructions in the PDF. Here they are sightly re-edited by me:
To retore Web Photo Gallery functionality:
Close Photoshop and use Explorer to view the extra stuff on the CS4 install DVD.
Here's what you need to copy from the Photoshop CS4 install disk and where it goes:
    1. copy "Goodies\Optional plug-ins\Plug-ins 32-bit\Automate\WebContactSheetII" plug-in
to the "Adobe Photoshop CS4/Plugins/Automate" folder
    (note there's a 64bit version in the Plug-ins 64-bit folder if that's what you're using)
in my case it goes into "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\"
    2. copy "Goodies\Presets\Web Photo Gallery" folder (the whole FOLDER)
into the "Adobe Photoshop CS4/Presets" folder
    I then have "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Web Photo Gallery\"
(This is the part that adds the default templates to choose from)
To add functionality to Bridge (xp and vista destination folders are a bit different):
    3A (for Windows XP)
copy the FOLDER "Goodies\Optional plug-ins\Bridge Startup Scripts\photoshop_web_contact_sheet" folder (the whole FOLDER)
    into "Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS4\Adobe Photoshop\"
copy the SCRIPT file "photoshop_web_contact_sheet.jsx" from "Goodies\Optional plug-ins\Bridge Startup Scripts\"
    into "Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS4\Adobe Photoshop\
    3B (for Vista)
copy the FOLDER "Goodies\Optional plug-ins\Bridge Startup Scripts\photoshop_web_contact_sheet" folder (the whole FOLDER)
    into "Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS4\Adobe Photoshop/"
copy the SCRIPT file "photoshop_web_contact_sheet.jsx" from "Goodies\Optional plug-ins\Bridge Startup Scripts\"
    into "Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS4\Adobe Photoshop\"
As you can see there's a bit of surgery to do. But if you're careful everything will work as before.
Hope this somewhat re-written 'how to" helps.
    Russell
