Broken Pipe issue on HP

I was printing large format color images on my HP Color LaserJet CP1515 with great results when suddenly one image did not come out. I checked the printer and appeared this info: Error 49 Broken Pipe... I thought it was a printer problem, I turned off and on and tried to print the demo page. It worked perfectly, tried an Acrobat file with image and again perfect, so I tried again the file I had the issue and again no results... This file was being printed using Photoshop.
I would appreciate any help about this issue.
Thanks!
Mario

The following is the scenario where the broken pipe exception occurs to me:
- webapp on a Linux server with Apache + Tomcat.
- database (SQL Server) on another computer.
- the webapp creates one db connection at startup, stores it in the ServletContext and always uses that connection for any db access.
- If the db server is restarted, or just the SQL Server service is restarted, the connection that was in the ServletContext becomes invalid, and any attempt to access the db through it throws the broken pipe exception.
At this point the webapp has to recreate the connection and re-store it in the ServletContext in order to gain access to the db again.

  • I am a Mac User having "broken pipe" issues with my HP photosmart 7510

I am a Mac user having trouble printing from my computer to my HP photosmart 7510. The message is that I have a
"broken pipe". What is this?  What do I need to do to fix this?

    Hello Jacaranda,
Thanks for the post. Check the below thread for some good information on getting this resolved.  Good Luckand thanks to IronBadger!
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/the-meaning-broken-pipe/td-p/897133
Basically the OS is telling you that it has lost the ability to write data to the printer.  This would typically be caused by some sort of corruption in the CUPS printing system.
The first thing I would try is Restting the print system and re-adding the printer.
To do this open System Preferences and then Open Print & Fax.  Then <control> click or right click on the blank space around the list of printers on the left hand side.  You should see a pop up menu and the option to Reset print system.
Once you select that the OS will restore the CUPS printing system to all the original default settings.  Thsi will of course erase all of your print queues.
Once that is done I would reboot the Macintosh and the printer.  Then go back to System Preferences--> Print & Fax and then re-add the printer.
I worked for HP but my posts and replies are my own....Thank you!

  • Broken pipe error in Sync Send JDBC Receiver:   Extremely Serious issue

    Hi forum,
I have a serious error in a JDBC->XI--> JDBC scenario,
Step1: I use a sender JDBC channel to select some distinct values from  a table say X, and update the same rows,
Query SQL Statement: select distinct Branch from dbo.X where status = 0
Update SQL statement: update dbo.X set Status = 2 where Status = 0
    Step 2: enter BPM
    Step 3: enter a loop
Step 4:make a synchronous call to the same table X, to fetch some records,
    SQL query: select * from X where status = 0 and Branch = i; Update X set status = 9 where Branch = i
Step 5: close loop,  this loop iterates for 5 or 6 times depending on i, which is no. of branches selected by the sender JDBC channel
so all the calls are to the same table, same databsse(SQL Server)
the problem is when this sync calls happens in the loop, it some times gives following error, which i se in RWB:
<b>Error Unable to execute statement for table or stored procedure. 'X' (Structure 'STATEMENT_X') due to com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: An exception occurred during the DBComms.transmit operation. Exception:Broken pipe (errno:32). Context:(2217)</b>
i have no way to trace the cause of the error, the database is perfect and the error logs in the SQL server shows no trace of any error,
    Note: It works sometimes
i dont know whom to approach, pls help
the issue is very very serious as its in production system,

    Hi Sudeep,
SAP Note 846079 - XI 3.0 JDBC Receiver: # of Retries on SQL Error w/o Effect
Please check the following SAP note also - 831162
Some info which i found there and can be relevant in to your scenario.....
Q: I am using a JDBC Receiver Adapter in conjunction with the  Lotus Domino Driver for JDBC perform an INSERT or UPDATE operation on a database. When sending a message to the receiver, the Adapter Monitoring shows the following error message:
    "java.sql.SQLException: [Lotus][Domino Driver for JDBC]Invalid cursor state"
Is there a fix for this issue?
A: To work around this JDBC driver problem, activate the Advanced Mode for the respective JDBC Receiver channel and configure the setting "Number of Retries of Database Transaction on SQL Error" to a value > 0. Additionally, make sure that the setting "Database Auto-Commit Enabled" is also active as the Lotus Domino Driver for JDBC does not support transactions.
Apply note 846079 before configuring this scenario.
Q: The TCP/IP connection to my database host is running over an unreliable network connection, i.e. the connection is sometimes interrupted. Consequently, I sporadically receive an SQLException regarding a closed connection in the system trace or audit log or the connection as well as the JDBC Adapter channel are hanging.
How can I work around this connectivity issue?
A: Enable the "Advanced Mode" for the respective JDBC Adapter channel and select the option "Disconnect from Database After Processing each Message".
Note that this might put additional load on your DBMS due to the creation of a new database connection for each message.
I dont have access to a database right now, so i am not able to check this.
Also check the JDBC driver compatability as mentioned in the above note.

  • Recovering the failed server to the Cluser !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BROKEN PIPE

    Hi,
I have a weblogic cluster with 2 managed servers on 2 different machines,
Now i have an application.ear which is kept on the first server and while deploying i choose the option "copy to the other server" and i deploy this EAR to the cluster.
Mine is a applet-servlet based application and the applet gets downloaded onto client browser.
Now when both the servers are up load balancing and the failover is also happening. Now the problem is when rejoing the failed server back to the cluster.
I have setup the classpath entries and arguments entries "Remote Start" tab in the server configuration,
I bring back the server through weblogic console and it joins the cluster also without any problem.
The problem is if some users have already opened the application then after rejoining also it works fine.

I can ping the client machine from the server without a problem.
    Has anybody seen this before?
    Edited by: 982740 on Feb 1, 2013 2:29 AM

    Hi user,
It seems from the log that when the proxy node accepts your client connection the client fails to respond to a ping request down the same pipe. Does this happen consistently? If so, no putAll would ever succeed.
I have to admit I've never seen this behaviour before. I can't see how this would be a firewall port issue, as the connection has been established... the only things I can think of would be a) your weblogic client node is running way to hot and doesn't respond to the grids ping request in time, b) Some very aggressive network infrastructure is killing the connection just after its created, or c) aliens are interfering with your system.
sorry I can't be of more help,
    Andy

  • Broken Pipe Error when using database link

We are using WebLogic 6.1 sp2 / oracle database 8.1.6. / thin drivers.
The connection works fine, unit I try to access a view that has a union and db links
    in it.
We have used one or the other (view or a dblink) and it works, but when used together,
    we get broken pipe error.
I haven't proven that this is the cause, I will try to setup a test, but I was wondering
if this is a known issue or what ??
    thanks
    Rich

You need to create the catalog views that support distributed SQL in your remote database (the database you connect to via db_link).
To create these views, connect "/ as sysdba" and run:
    $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql
which will in turn call several other scripts including: $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catrpc.sql (which creates your missing view)
It is best to run the whole catproc.sql script (and not just the catrpc script).
You can run and rerun catproc.sql several times quite safely.
    Cheers

  • PL/SQL Web Service: Broken Pipe

We have successfully deployed PL/SQL Web Services on the Oracle Application Server 10g with about 6 containers. The web services are being consumed by a .NET application. All seems to be working well but we continually are having intermittent (every 2-3 days) "BROKEN PIPE" errors which is causing us to bounce the container constantly. This is not very effecient for a production environment. Does anybody have any ideas........? Here is what shows up in the log:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Io exception: Broken pipe

So everytime I see this error I know that we have to bounce the container. Very Frustrating!!

    Hi,
Although it's a long time since you posted your message, I nowadays working with this issue, that is, calling web services from Oracle database 10g through UTL_DBWS package. It turns out that almost 3 of 100 requests fail due to this error (broken pipe). Actually, the trace is:

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Agentry: SSL Error - broken pipe

    Hi,
We have a work manager 5.2 modified version running on our production environment and lately we are experiencing some weird errors when the users try to synchronize.
Sometimes (maybe 50% of the attempts...) the synchronization process is stuck and the client doesn't show any error at all. It's just waiting while loading a complex table, replacing definitions or anything, but never finishing. Inspecting the server logs I've seen that the error that seems to cause this issue is the following:
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:       + ANGEL Connection=XXX.XX.XXX.XXX:XXXXX
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:         + ANGEL Vine=1848370469
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:           + User=XXXXX
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:             + Server=Agentry
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:               + Complex Table=ctmaterialstoragelocation
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:                 + User=XXXXX
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:                   + ANGEL Vine=1848370469
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:                     + ANGEL Connection=XXX.XX.XXX.XXX:XXXXX
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:                       + Data Chunk=0
    2014/04/10 14:22:57.203:                         SSL error: error:2007107C:BIO routines:BIO_write:broken pipe
This time it happened while loading the complex table ctmaterialstoragelocation but it's just an example. It can happen in any other step.
Do you think that this error is really related to SSL? I think it's not and my guess is that something is wrong with the network and the connection is broken but I don't know how to be sure about the root cause of the issue. Any clues that could help me?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I'm going to close this thread since I discovered that the issue is due to my company network problem.
We haven't found the root cause, but after many attempts testing from my home wifi I don't face the problem, so it is not caused by the Agentry Server.

  • Broken pipe - Sun T2000, Solaris 10

    Hi,
    I have some problems..
So, there's one system I'm working with. It's made of 2 parts (both written in Java):
    - "normal" application, that works as a business logic server,
    - web application (build on Turbine framework, running on a Resin Application Server) - it works as a presentation layer,
These 2 parts are connected via TCP/IP socket connection - we use an ObjectOutputStream.
It normally works just fine (it's running on several different systems), but recenlty it has been installed on a new server machine and it's started to throw strange exceptions. Below there are informations about server machine, exceptions and code making connections.
We think, that It may be a problem with configuration of Solaris kernel or TCP/IP stack, but have no idea how to fix it.

    Hi,
well I'm not sure if it isn't a hardware problem - you see, this system works just fine on a Solaris 10 working on the other servers, but tends to throw exceptions on Sun T2000 machine - so I guess It may be hardware issue and someone here could help me.

  • IO Exception Broken Pipe ORA-17002 while using connection pooling

    Hi
We are experiencing "broken pipe ORA-17002 error" when using connection pooling. This seems to be a common error when implementing connection pooling, but I didn't find any solution anywhere.
we are using Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1 JDBC thin driver
Our database is Oracle 8.1.7 running on HP Unix
The middle tier(Tomcat) runs on RedHat linux server
    We are using JDK1.3
It seems the connections automatically get stale or bad after certain period of time.Iam checking to see if the connection is closed, before giving the connection from the pool to the appilcation. It seems its still open. But when I start using the connection to open a callable statement or setAutocommit to false, it says Broken pipe or No more data to read from the socket.
We are implementing our own connection pooling class(we experimented with OracleConnectionCacheImpl but it too gave the same errors).
Does anybody have a solution for this problem??
Is there a workaround for this?I would like to know how connection pooling is implemented in most of the applications that use oracle database?Or do we need to explicitly test the connection before using it, and reopen a connection if that is bad??
    Thanks
    Anil

    kalle
Thank you very much for your advice!!!
Like you said, I started to check whether the connections are fine before giving them from the pool.I am executing a simple "select 'anil' from dual" and if its fine only then I return the connection. So far it seems to be fine. Also I am reopening the connections(closing the old ones and opening new connections) after every 12 hours.
As far as the JDBC driver is concerned, I already tried with Oracle 8i driver, it gave the same problems. I read that 9i driver might solve this problem, so I changed to the latest 9i driver (classes12_g.zip).
Sometimes before(before I started checking whether the connection is good )the application used to hang up at the point where I am issuing setAutoCommit(false). It never comes out from that statement. Is this something to do with theconnections being closed?
What I am afraid is, will the appilation get hung up even after I check the connection with select query and then issue autocommit(false)??
Or will it hang up while I check with a select query??
As long as it doesn't hung up, I am fine. Because i am cathching the exceptions.
    Thanks In ADVANCE

  • AppServer or Web App error (9.0.4) and BROKEN PIPE

    Hi,
I'm still using 9.0.4, and have started getting the following message in the base server.log of the Oracle Container.....

It's happening a lot, but I can't see any impact when using our web apps. Looking at my three most used web apps, I see the same error appearing at identical times in the individual log files, but they are all using different pages, so don't think they are 'causing' this prob.
Does anyone think I have something wrong with the basic application server, or is this indeed an issue with a particular web application that's spreading it's error to other web apps? Example of the error in a web app below.....and what is a Broken Pipe error?
    Thanks in advance

    Raju --
Thanks for the intelligent posting on a difficult issue for you.
I wasn't aware of anything specifically being introduced that prevented the bootclasspath technique from working** in the 904 release.
For 904, the bootclasspath needs to be put in the start parameters tag of the java-options tag.
    <process-type id="home" module-id="OC4J" status="enabled">
    <module-data>
    <category id="start-parameters">
    <data id="java-options" ... -Xbootclasspath/a:/java/lib/xerces.jar"/>
    </category>
    </module-data>
    </process-type>
You can also try copying the xerces.jar into the jre/lib/ext directory so it's loaded by the system classloader and see if that works**. This will put xerces at the extension level so
**these workarounds are not supported and will put you in an unsupported situation if a problem occurs.
The good news is that have taken steps to clearly enable the separation of container versus appplication class spaces in thenext production release (10.1.3) of OC4J. We will be providing a new classloading model which cleanly separates the two namespaces and allows applications to provide their own versions or distributions of class libraries with no collisions with the OC4J runtime libraries.
I don't know of any easy ways to do what you need -- other than reworking the app to use JAXP so that the parser implementation used is pluggable as you kind of allude to. If it was possible, I'd do that rather than hard coding in the use of the Oracle XML parser.
But just to reiterate, switching in xerces at the bootclasspath level is not a supported operation since it may have an effect on the OC4J runtime operation.
    cheers

  • The "alsa audio output error: cannot write: Broken pipe" problem

    [Solved]
(No place for this word in the Subject field, so I put it here.)
    Hi Arch community!
I noticed I have this problem and not sure when in started. Several months ago I bought and installed new videocard "GeForce GT 630". Right after installation I lost sound in the system. Having internal sound card (in mainboard) and SB Audigy2 (PCI), I searched for solution and found I had to disable "snd_hda_intel" module to restore sound to work through PCI sound card. Did it.
    echo "blacklist snd_hda_intel" >> /etc/modprobe.d/no-nvidia-sound.conf
After that sound was working as it should. And I noticed recently that during playing of any sound file the sound interrupts. If run VLC from CLI I get "alsa audio output error: cannot write: Broken pipe" message. And my system hasn't been upgraded since I don't know when. I still ran Firefox 26. So googled again and found it's a bug in a kernel or somewhere else.
    ==========================================
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69942 :
    2013-10-01 01:39:40 UTC
I ran a system update last night, and this issue appears to have been corrected.
    ==========================================
And so I thought upgrade would fix my problem since mainstream bug is fixed. After upgrade sound interrupts again, maybe even more often.
Do you guys have this issue and does anyone have a solution?

Not particularly wise to blacklist the module, since it probably is also used by the integrated sound card. With vid and pid you could just disable the nvidia card alone using parameter enable=0. Unless you do not mind having both disabled.
Where do I need to input "enable=0"? When I was searching for solution to make my Creative card work with new nVidia card I installed, the only way I found was blacklisting the module.
    dmesg says:

  • Broken pipe error in plugin log

    Hello All,
Any help will be much appreciated.
Currently we have a webserver and weblogic servers(two) in the same box. The webserver
is IPlanet and it communicates with weblogic(7.0 SP2) using the weblogic plug-in.
Normally the webserver connects to the first weblogic server and subsequent request
were sent to the same weblogic servers. While doing so, the plugin hits a broken
pipe error and it failover to the second weblogic server. We do not know the cause
of this problem as there is no broken pipe errors in the weblogic server logs.
I changed the weblogic & plugin configurations and did various tests using the
    following configuratons, but no luck.
    Weblogic plugin configurations:
    1. HungServerRecoverSecs to 5000,
    2. WLSocketTimeoutSecs to 5000
    3. KeepAliveSecs="120" ( by default KeepAliveEnabled is true)
    4. ConnectTimeoutSecs="120" along with ConnectRetrySecs=2 ( i.e. 60 connections
before it throws HTTP 503- Service Unavailable exception).
    Weblogic server configurations:
    1. Post Timeout Secs: 120(max)
    2. T3 Message Timeout: 480(max)
    3. HTTP Message Timeout: 480(max).

    Hi Sudeep,
SAP Note 846079 - XI 3.0 JDBC Receiver: # of Retries on SQL Error w/o Effect
    Cheer's
