Broken pipe warning on trying to run dmg files

hi, i am trying to install a couple of program file updates.
however when i click on the xx.dmg i get warning cant run "broken pipe" in a dialog box.
help !
one of the upates i want to install is the 10.4.7 combi update but cant.
any suggestions please

A .dmg file isn't "executable" or a program, it's a disk image that could contain anything from an executable to pictures or audio to an entire application. It sounds like it's a bad .dmg file.
What version of Mac OS X are you running? The latest 10.4.9 update added some checks for bad .dmg files, and you may be hitting those checks. This has been discussed in some Apple Knowledge Base articles and on sites such as http://www.macfixit.com and http://www.macintouch.com.

first, you just asked me to use MS file Explorer to see what the properties were.,..and to ask what happened. Yes - that's on my hard drive. The problem I have is opening word files in a DB that is web enabled.....I've used Firefox browser for that, and everything else , for years...... When I look at the Tools, and options on FireFox., as your support page noted.....NOTHING is listed in the Applications tab....hence my note asking for help. The file I need to open is a Word file out on a web enabled DB. It's not on my hard drive - I have to problems opening docs there - but for that, I don't use Firefox

I tried to do that and it told me Adobe support adviser no longer exists.
Could you please advise a solution.

Extract it to a different location inside a dedicated folder and make sure to not destroy the file and folder hierarchy inside the archive. also run the install with sufficient user privielges and security stuff turned off.

Trying to transfer dmg file...

I am trying to transfer a .dmg file that is 8.6gb to my 1tb external HD and it gies me "Sorry the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code 0)" I would really like to back this up on there but its not letting me...tried to use windows thru fusion and it says there isnt enough space...i have 544gb available on my ehd and the file is 8.6gb...somethin isnt adding up here...any thought? My HD is a 1tb western digital formatted thru my macbook...

Well, nice to know the reason why I can't backup a 4.9gb file I have. No I can stop saying bad things about my Mac.
Ok, but now, any solutions? Is there any Win-compatible format the supports 4+gb files?

Warning while trying to run an agent obiee 11g

Hello all,
I have an analysis and i have applied an agent on that analysis so that i receive an email with the report attached.
I have configured the mail settings in the em tool and i have run it successfully in the past with other agents/analyses.
Currently when i'm running the agent, the operation ends with the following message:
"The Agent, agent-test MP, has completed with warnings."
I'm trying to see through the logs in "C:\oracle\middleware\instances\instance1\diagnostics\logs\OracleBISchedulerComponent\coreapplication_obisch1\nqscheduler.log"
what went wrong but i see nothing helpful there.
Note that the obiee version is 11.1.1.6
Does anybody have an idea how i can look further into this problem? Maybe there are logs available in another folder etc.

Unsupported class version error trying to run jar file on windows machine

Hi,
i've written a program that connects to an access database to get its data. Created a jar file with the class files, the access database and other required files.
works fine on my home windows computer but when i try to run it on another machine i get an error.
here's what i write on the cmd: java -Xmx128m -jar myFile.jar
heres the error i get:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: StartUp(Unsupported major.minor version 49.0)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass0(Native Method)
and so on.
It seems like it might be quite a basic error but i'm lost, can anyone please shed some light and tell me where i'm going wrong?

hey there, in case anyone was going to reply, i've worked it out now. couldn't work out what was wrong at first so just pulled out all my classes and put them into a brand new jar file. now use javaw -jar instead of java and it worked fine! wierd...

Jsf web application has to be restarted everytime a broken pipe exception

Hi,
My jsf web application using tomcat is experiencing a sql exception "java.sql.SQLException: System or internal error java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe" when it tries to connect to database.
Everytime this exception happens I have to restart the application and the application runs fine then.
Is there a way to handle this exception that we don't have to restart the application.

Broken Pipes Error

          We are using Weblogic 5.1.0 SP 9 and we are getting broken pipe ioexception errors in production. Each time this occurs, which is pretty much every day, we have to restart the server. This is causing bad problems in production.
          Does anyone have any advice on troubleshooting this problem, resolving this problem, or any ideas regarding this. I heard that using WL5.10SP9 fixes this problem but we are currently using this.
          Would turning on JDBC tracing help, or any other kind of tracing help on this? Thanks,

WrongName error when trying to run a package file

Hi, I am trying to run a file in a package. The package name is called com.davidflanagan.examples.net and the file name is ProxyServer.class. I've set the class path to point to the directory the package is in using the CLASSPATH environment variable. I've tried using "java ProxyServer" and "java com.davidflanagan.examples.net.ProxyServer", but I get a cryptic Wrong name error in both Windows and Linux. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, ProxyServer's source code must start with the line...
package com.davidflanagan.examples.net;
Next, you must have a directory structure that matches the package name - a directory named com which contains a directory named davidflanagan which contains a directory named examples which contains a directory named net and ProxyServer.class must be in the net directory,.
Next, the directory that contains com must be in your Classpath when you execute ProxyServer.
To execute ProxyServer, use "java com.davidflanagan.examples.net.ProxyServer"

Running multiple files

I am trying to run multiple files with my java app on a Unix server. I compiled with javac, and run it thus:
java SNL *.mef
meaning I want to run all of the files with .mef suffix. Unfortunately it does nothing. If I just run one file at time this way:
java SNL bach.mef
it will work just fine. My main method looks like this:

Trying to Open Raw file in Photoshop Elements 4

Does anybody have any ideas how I can open a RAW file from a cannon G10 camera in Photoshop elements 4.0? The file is coming out of the camera as *.CR2. I am working on a MAC with OS 10.5.7.
When I try to open a CR2 file in PE 4.0 it says it can not complete my request because photoshop elements does not recognize this file type.
I have also tried to run the file through the dng converter version 5.3 and when I try to open it with PE 4.0 it gives the same message above.
Any ideas of how to get this open and take advantage of the RAW format would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

There is no PSE 7 for mac. However, you may be able to find a version of the Adobe raw converter that will work in PSE 4 that will open your G10 files. I would start with the latest version (5.3) and keep working backwards till you find the latest version that will work in PSE 4. Camera raw updates for PSE mac are here:

although the recent updates are listed for PSE 6 only, it's often possible with PSE to use updates that are supposedly too recent for your version of PSE, especially with PSE/Mac.

Dmg file not working

i tried downloading a dmg file on my imac and it says the following disk images couldnt be opened not recognized i need help now

It means you have a defective download. Re-download it.
What type of file did you download? Does it have a file extension such as ".dmg".

DMG files will not open. Possibly corrupt installer app?

I just tried to uninstall Safari 3 Beta and return to the previous version of Safari 2.0. The uninstallation stopped prematurely and told me to try the uninstallation again. I tried, but the dmg file would not load. I rebooted my machine, and it still will not work. Not only will the safari uninstall dmg not work, no other dmg will work either. It seems as though my "installer" app is corrupt or something. I tried downloading other apps that require the installer program, but none of them will install.

Try this navigate to the following location System/Library/Cache/com.apple.kernalcaches inside the com.apple.kernalcaches Delete all files inside (do not empty the trash at this time)
Next navigate back to System/Library and in the Library you will find Extensions.kextcache file delete this file (do not empty the trash yet)
Now reboot your mac and test to see if the installer works if the installer works you can empty the trash as your mac on the reboot generated a new kernal cache ( if this solved the problem it was a corrupt kernal cache )
I had this situation not to long ago and the above solved the problem
Btw To delete the kernel cache files you will need the admin. password and be very carefull to delete the above files only if the above procedure did not work you can take the deleted cache files out of the trash and put it back where you got them ( replace the new cache files with the cache files you had in the trash )
