Broken power board ZIF and buzzing noise

Hey all,
This is my first post on the forum! Thanks so much for providing such a welcoming atmosphere.
I have a GE70 20E laptop that I disassembled recently to do some repairs on, and when I was putting it back together I snapped the little black plastic thing that holds the power board connector in place.
I looked up some guides for the problem and eventually took the ZIF, replaced it as best I could, and held it down with electrical tape. The computer booted and everything was mostly fine. The power and fan indicators weren't lighting up, but I had a functional laptop. Eventually I started hearing little popping sounds coming from that area of the computer that I attributed to a speaker problem because it mostly happened when the volume was high. About a day ago the popping graduated to full-blown buzzing, which scared me.
I went in and reapplied the electrical tape to the ZIF and power board connector and it fixed the power and fan indicators, but the popping remains. In light of that, three questions.
1) Is the laptop safe to use?
2) Is there a more permanent solution I should be trying?
3) Failing that, does anyone have any tips on how to better the electrical tape fix?
Thanks so much for your help!

It's definitely not the speakers! I was using Skype and the buzzing got worse when I starting using the onboard webcam - it's definitely the power board connector. Last night I did some poking around and got the buzzing noise reduced, but I just did it by scotch taping this
over the connector. With that in place the sound works fine, the indicators are working, and the only sign that there's any problem at all is a crackle on start-up that goes away after a minute. Assuming it's stable and it stays functional, should I just be happy with that? I'm worried that taking it to a repair place would cost me a bunch of money I don't have for a fix that's basically no better than what I already did. I'm mostly just worried that the problem will come back now that I've got it working - those connectors seem really precarious.

  • Power Board for and Canon ipf510

Ok, this is a little embarrasing. Purchased a Canon ipf510 in the US and had it shipped to Australia. Plugged it in and blew up the power board. Australia uses 240v power. Not sure if its only the power board which has been damaged but due to cost of the printer I feel its worth replacing the power supply and hope that this will solve the problem. Machine is not under warranty because it was shipped out of the US. Can anybody advise me on
    a) the likelihood that the damage is limited to the power board
    b) if the ipf510 has fuse protection in which case I can just replace the fuse
    c) best way to source a replacement powerboard and likely cost
    Thanks

  • Regza TV 26AV605PG - base required and buzzing noise

I have just bought a second hand Regza TV but it doesn't have a base so I have two questions here:
Is there somewhere I can get a seond hand base?
Are other bases compatible that I can search for - in the UK?
I have a buzzing noise on the TV which wasn't there a day or so ago.
What should I check to see what is causing it.?
I have checked all the connections are in correctly.
It is connected to a set top box, video and Dvd
Thanks in advance for your help

I think with new base will be pretty problematic. I mean I understand your questions but such info about compatibility is I think for Toshiba service because they have all parts number for each part and can say if the certain part can be used on different models.
Try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help or advice. In worst case buy flat wall bracket and problem is solved. Check also eBay. Maybe you will be lucky and find such part.
Buzzing noise. On this virtual way it is not easy to say why this happen. Can you hear it all the time, no matter which external audio/video source you use?
Is some WLAN device or phone placed near the TV?

  • Lightened screen and buzzing noise on Satellite A50

    Hi there,
I have had a small issue with the screen on my laptop for a few months but its progressively getting worse. Once side of the screen was significantly lighter than the other but you can still see whats going on. As time went on the lightened area has become larger and now its covereing almost half of my screen.
There is also a buzzing noise that sounds like a shorting connector coming from the top edge of the laptop near the hinges. This noise random sometimes staying for hours and sometimes not appearing for hours.
From looking on the forums my guess is its a problem with the inverter but before i but one and start tearing my laptop apart i would like any comments for feedback about this problem to see if anyone else has had a similar issue.
    Photo here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2527956/laptopscreen.jpg
    Thanks for any feedback everyone.

    hi durbs77,
    jackpot! 2 parts defektiv!
    got no A50 but:
the problem with the screen (halfpart whitend) may be a defectiv cable...
or the lcd (hard to say without testing)
the buzzing sound probably came (as said before) from the inverter...
but hey a jackpot is rare!
is this issue related to the angle you open the lid?
so exchange the display cable first (btw: it is the cheapest of the parts) and look if it works ok then...
only if you have still trouble change the other parts (lcd and inverter)
i make a bet that half the problem is the cable...

  • Vibrate and buzzing noise

Is there any way to adjust the vibrate on the Droid1.  I just received my 3rd replacement and the vibrate function is so high that the phone buzzes loudly.  I use vibrate often in meetings and I cannot quietly change my phone to vibrate or even use the function.  It is also loud when the phone powers down.  I know that my other three phones were not this loud.   Went to the verizon store and they told me there is no way to adjust it but they've been wrong before!  I had two replacements during the OTA upgrade so I don't know what the upgrade did - just know it changed a lot of things.

It is usually a loose slider...
2 of my phones have been really loud and they have a loose slider.
The other 3 have a "tight" buzz.

  • Hard drive and mouse noise over speakers

    Hello all,
I have a iMac and just recently have noticed hard drive, mouse and buzzing noise coming over my powered speakers. I have been a home recoding musican for the last 10 years and just recently moved to California. Since I've been here I'm now hearing all of this unwanted hard drive, mouse and various other noises coming thru my powered speakers. Even turning down my speakers to 0, having a deadicated power strip/noise surpessor on ALL of my devices, im still getting these noises. Like moving the mouse you hear staic thru the speakers.
Any idea where to start looking into this problem? Need a solution as this is killing me.
thanks for your help in advance.
    - M

    I hope this helps...
I also had a problem with fan noise. It not only creates more than normal noise, but i notices a difference in my battery life... it was really bad.
Well after using istat pro i notices a activity that took up about 85%-95% of my processes.... And stated 'Canon ip5000'.... this was my printer that wasn't attached!
I opened activity monitor to search for this process... i couldn't find it under that name. However, i did notice a printer agent of sorts (i can't remember what it was called).
Anyway, after quitting this process my fan almost immediately went from 6000rpm to 2000rpms and the noise was almost gone! And my battery life that was sitting on 24 mins (after a full charge and 40 mins!!) and then went up to 1hr15mins!
    What a difference.
I'm using tiger... and the only difference that remember doing was updating the printer driver... hey presto.
I'm sure that is the issue with a lot of people... that some sort of deamon is running in the back ground and is taking an alwful lot of processor time!!!
    Hope this helps!

  • Mac Pro 2010 and Lion: buzzing noise from CPU board when idle

    Hi all,
I have a 2010 Mac Pro with the 3.2 GHz quad core. I recently installed Lion and now whenever the CPU load falls below a certain threshold (approx. 10-20%) something on the CPU board starts to make a buzzing noise. It sounds like a capacitor or coil. Sometimes it is nearly impossible to hear but most of the time it is quite annoying.
Removing the CPU board and putting it back in, solved it yesterday. But after waking up the system this morning, the buzz was back again.
Also, this does not happen when running Snow Leopard or Windows in Bootcamp.
Does anyone experience the same issue?
    Best,
    b.lam

Then I would do a clean Lion install. Hopefully you saved the installer DMG.

  • Ultrabook/Notebook freezing and making loud buzzing noise

I just received via UPS a HP Pavilion 11 x2 PC 11-h010nr for my daughter for Christmas.  I decided to let her open it as her one before Christmas present and I am glad I did.  She went into xbox music to listen to her new beats audio sound.  On about the 3rd song the loudest annoying buzzing noise came out of the screen portion and the screen was frozen (she had it detached from the keyboard).  She hit the power button and the noise stopped.  She got back into xbox music and about the 2nd song this time it did it again.  She started to cry and very upset because she thought it was broke and would take a very long time for us to get it fixed and she gets a replacement.  Needless to say her Christmas has just turned into a really bad Christmas.  Also today I brought the notebook with me to work to see if the problem continues and as I was putting the song on Pause/Play the noise occured, the screen did not freeze but the noise did occur.

  • Horrible buzzing and clicking noise from the fan - DV6 3046eo

    Hello!
Two weeks ago the fan on my DV6 3046eo laptop began to make almost continueosly buzzing and clicking noise. My laptop is less than an year old (bought in December 2010) and such noise has never occurred before. I have done some "research" to find the reason, but without luck. I have read on Internet that the fan may be broken or loose. I am just using the web and listening the music. I have to admit I played some demanding games on the computer, like BBC2 and Dirt3. But the problem occured later. I can't imagine what will happen if I play games on my laptop now...
The fan seems to cool down the laptop, but it is like something is hitting it every third second or soand preventing it from running silently. The noise is strange and irritating because the frequency changes rapidly. Sometimes when I move the laptop or hit it a bit gently, the loud noise suddenly disappears and the normal continueosly noise takes over (I am ok with the latter one, though). After some while it appears again. The noise come and go. Reboot doesn't help much. I have also used an airspray can, but to no avail. I am thinking about getting the fan replaced by HP before the 1 year warranty runs out. I am not too comfortable to do so myself. What's the reason for this noise and what should I do?
    Thanks in advance!
    Sandip

    Still no comments?
I am getting sick of this noise. I can't bring my laptop to school because it makes too much noise. Please help me.

  • When I record a video on my iPhone 4s, I play it back and it has this buzzing noise playing, even when I focus on something while filming, when I play the video back, you can hear when I've tapped to focus, how can I fix this?

Ever since I got my Iphone 4s, I have noticed that when I film a video and play it back, it has this buzzing noise and when im in the middle of filming a video and I focus on something, you can hear a click where I have focused when I play it back, is this the microphone? can I fix it myself? or do i have to take my iPhone in to be properly fixed? Help Me please!!

    See this veeeeeeeeeery long thread.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3404857
It's an issue with hundreds of phones.  Some claim it's software related, some hardware, some say it's a mixture of both.
Some people have had temporary success with quitting the Phone.app / restoring as a new phone / restoring from an iCloud backup / disabling Siri / toggling speakerphone on & off...
Unfortunately all of the above only been temporary, with the problem recurring again after a few calls, or a few days etc.
So far the only solution that seems permanent has been to replace the phone.  But even so, it's the luck of the draw to recieve a functional phone, and not another faulty one.
I'm completely annoyed as there is no Apple Store near me...... and Apple haven't even acknowledged the issue, despite the above thread being 34 pages long, as of writing.

  • New imac and a buzzing noise - is it normal because it's irritating?

    Hello peeps,
I got my new imac delivered today. Most things are fab, but I'm a bit disappointed with a buzzing noise that only happens when I reduce the brightness of the screen using the slider in the display icon under system preferences. If I keep it at optimum brightness the buzzing doesn't happen. Is there any way of darkening the screen another way?
I'm finding it big and too bright initially as I'm not used to a 24" screen. Is this something that happens or should I send it back?
Anyone care to try theirs and see for me? I would really appreciate this as it's really bothering me and I don't want to complain if I don't have to.

Try using: Shades from Charcoal Design be sure to download the "Intel" version. Shades gives you brightness control all the way down to a black screen, great for working in a dimmly lit room.

It's only my opinion, but I find that text images stay sharper at the lower levels using Shades!

The strap of my bag broke when my laptop was in it, now it is making a buzzing noise all the time when I am using it. I have warranty with protection plan, how do I fix it?

Take it in and have it assessed. They do not have to know about the bag incident unless the explicitly ask for the specific details (like when you are being questioned by a TSA screener, LEO, etc.). As far as you know, the noise started up and it is getting warm. With luck it is just an unbalanced fan that needs replacement.

(never gotten it wet or had it exposed to extreme temperatures) It is also unresponsive to any buttons on the ipod and it didn't show up when i plugged it into my computer. What do I do? Also if it is unfixable could i get a free one from apple?

My mac mini only shows a steady power light and fan noise when powered up. No video or sound and no commumication with wired keyboard or optical mouse. Tried replacing internal battery and resetting PMU/SMC but nothing seemed to happen.  Any suggestions? Many thanks! Richard

You've already done the two things I would have suggested.
If your Mini has an internal battery then I assume it's a G4. That means you've gotten a lot of good years of service from it, and it's old enough that it's certainly not covered by AppleCare anymore, and it's probably not worth spending money trying to repair it.
You should be able to tear it apart using instructions from ifixit.com to get the hard drive out, and then put the hard drive into a nice USB or FireWire enclosure (I like the ones from Other World Computing, macsales.com) so you can transfer your data to a replacement Mac.
I hope someone has another suggestion for you.
