  • Converting ACR preset to Lightroom preset

    Is there a quick and easy way to convert an ACR preset to a preset or develop template for Lightroom?

    Make your adjustments in ACR, save but don't open. Then open the file in Lightroom and the settings will be preserved (including Point Curve adjustments). Then save as a Preset in Lightroom.

  • A LOT of iTunes broken links/tracks after Music folder move...

    So yeah, I'm getting a TON of broken links / dead track links in iTunes after having to do two things to my iTunes install recently and I'm at wits end trying to fix it.
    I keep my iTunes Music Folder on an external and share the iTunes library between my work Macbook Pro and my home Macbook. Every Friday I drag my iTunes folder and all contents from my MBP onto an external and replace the iTunes folder on the 'weekend' MB, then do the same back on Monday. I keep my iTunes music 'View' as 'Date Added' so that I can always be listening to whatever is newest. It's how I roll.
    Well, this week I had some data problems during the transfer and had to use a previous week's iTunes Music Folder, which was fine as I hadn't added much this week.
    I also got a new external because the old one was getting a little shady, so after doing the iTunes Music Folder replacement I moved my music all over to a new external drive, told iTunes where it all was at. iTunes did it's thing, 'organized' my stuff and all seemed good - until I got back deeper into the catalogue of music and started getting a LOT of broken tracks. The songs are still there, in the correct folders and all, but for some reason iTunes isn't finding them.
    When I say a LOT, I mean so far it's hundreds of my 13,000 songs.
    Now I COULD use the 'Super Remove Dead Tracks' script from Doug's to find all the broken files then re-add the whole library, but it will add all the old songs out of order because they will get a new 'Added' date.
    I could also manually move thru my whole library holding down the arrow key for 'Next' to find all the broken links then go thru, select them, and use the 'iTunes Track CPR' script from Doug's to re-add them to the library with ratings intact, but still they will be out of order time-wise.
    I cannot find a script that will parse my library, find broken links, and re-associate them with their tracks, nor can I figure out why this happened and any other way to fix it. Repairing permissions hasn't helped. Any other ideas?

    Just to follow up with a more comprehensive example of looping through a Library to detect & repair "missing" file-tracks:
    <pre>
    property kErrAENoSuchObject:(-1728)
    on run
    tell (application "iTunes")
    set theLibraryPlaylist to (first library playlist)
    tell theLibraryPlaylist
    set theNumCandidateFileTracks to (count (every file track))
    repeat with i from 1 to theNumCandidateFileTracks by 1
    -- Get a reference to this file-track
    set thisFileTrackRef to (file track i)
    -- Get this file-track's info (useful for debugging, etc.)
    set thisArtist to (artist of thisFileTrackRef)
    set thisAlbum to (album of thisFileTrackRef)
    set thisName to (name of thisFileTrackRef)
    set thisFileTrackInfo to (thisArtist & " > " & thisAlbum & " > " & thisName)
    -- Display a diagnostic message every 500th file-track
    if ((i mod 500) = 0) then
    tell me
    display dialog ("Checking file-track #" & i & ": " & ¬
    return & return & thisFileTrackInfo) ¬

    -- be unable to access the 'location' field of some file-tracks !!!}
    try
    set thisFileTrackTargetFile to (location of thisFileTrackRef)
    on error errMsg2 number errNum2
    -- Check whether it's that bizarre error: (-1728) "Can't get location of …"
    if (errNum2 = (kErrAENoSuchObject of me)) then
    -- Set up to just skip this track (assume it's being downloaded)
    set thisFileTrackTargetFile to (anything) -- (Other than 'missing value')

  • Missing Effect Preset / Restore Effect Preset

    Most of my Effect Presets are missing!!!
    EXAMPLE: Tube-modeled Compressor Presets are there;
    Multiband Compressor dropdown only shows "Default"-- No other preset options;
    Stereo Imagery + Center Channel Extractor dropdown only shows "Extract"-- No other preset options.
    I already tried going to Documents + Adobe + Audition and making a copy of "3.0" folder (pasted it to desktop), then deleted the original one. Started Audition. Audition automatically restored the "3.0" folder (which contained "scripts" folder)-- No luck.
    If my only choice is to do a complete reinstall of the program, can you suggest a link to instructions on how to perform said reinstall?-- I'm having a great deal of difficulty finding answers through this site's search function(!!!)
    I'm running Audition 3.0.1, Build 8347.0
    Win Vista, Svc Pack 2, 32-bit
    Thanks, in advance!

    Todd_Kopriva wrote:
    Steve, do you ever use the Audition Community Help search? I find that it does a pretty good job of searching within this forum, the Audio Masters forum, and so on.
    I didn't see in the first page of hits any direct reference to where I pointed, only an indirect one. As a search engine, I'd say it was pretty restricted compared to Google. If I put the search 'Audition effects presets missing' into Google, the first result is a link to the reference I gave.
    And that's because we didn't fight the rest of the world, and let Google reference the AudioMasters site for sensible search links. And since we rescued all of the FAQs that were a part of this forum (with the majority intellectual copyright holder's active encouragement, I might add), tidied them up a bit and rehosted them, they come up most sensibly with a Google search now, not an Adobe one.
    So why doesn't the Adobe community help search reference them directly as well? Strikes me that would be rather more sensible. We don't have any objections to that in the slightest, but I have to tell you that it's Google that we get most hits from with the FAQ stuff...
    As for the search I was intending (although rather imprecisely) to refer to in the previous post (the one at the top of the page) - well, I wonder why it's there at all, really.

  • Odd message when trying to save to alias of Pictures folder

    Hi. Maybe someone can help me. When I try to save an image to an alias of my Pictures folder that is located on the desktop, the image *does* get saved to a folder *within* the Pictures folder called Original Images. Then I get an error message reading "File alias [path to alias] [name of picture file] wasn't found." I click OK on this dialog box and it reappears seven or eight times. Note that this occurs *both* when I save to the Pictures folder itself as well as when I save to its alias. I deleted the alias and made a new one, again placing it on the desktop, yet the problem persists. This usually happens when I come across a picture file on the Web that I wish to save.
    I am running Mac OS 10.7.5 on a MacBook Pro with 4 GB of RAM. I've recently repaired the file permissions. This behavior started a few days ago. The Web browser I use is Firefox version 15.
    I'm just really puzzled about why all of a sudden these new, saved images are now automatically being placed in this subfolder called "Original Images." And the error messages are disconcerting.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

    Thanks, everyone, but I fixed the problem. I had accidentally turned on an Applescript to keep the Pictures folder organized.

  • Why can't I make an alias of a folder in a samba share

    I have successfully created a program that uses a share, which I'll call "ShareAFP".  I can make an alias out of
    ShareAFP:Jobs:Direct
    However when I attempt to make an alias from an already mounted share, which I'll call "ShareSMB" on a windows server. I cannot make an alias out of
    ShareSMB:Jobs:Direct
    The folder ShareSMB:Jobs:Direct does exist but I get AppleScript Execution Error:
    "File ShareSMB:Jobs:Direct wasn't found"
    "Offending Object" is shown as "ShareSMB:Jobs:Direct
    This error prevents my script from running.
    Could someone explain why this is happening and what I can do about it?

    This turned out to be a case of asking the wrong question.  Our file server was changed from an AFP to SMB but the problem I was having was due to the fact that folder names had also been changed (dog knows why). Makes me wish there was a way to delete the whole question.

  • Can't make alias in Applications folder

    Something has suddenly changed on my MacBook Pro (running 10.5.1), and I can't create an alias for anything in the Applications folder. If I do "Command-L", nothing happens. "Make Alias" on the File menu is grayed out. I am logged in as an Admin.
    I've run Repair Permissions a few times, but that doesn't fix it. When I do "Get Info" on the Applications folder, I see permissions for _unknown, (unknown), and everyone. I don't see a listing for admins. I don't remember what used to appear before this problem started. The permissions for the Applications folder appear as drwxr-xr-x+.
    Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
    Thanks for any help.
    Peter

    Ok, I tried adding "admin" and "system". I unlock the panel, but when I click the "+" to add a user, the Finder closes completely, the screen goes blank except for the wallpaper, and then the icons and windows come back. I wonder if my OS install is damaged?
    I was able to change the permissions on "Everyone" (which is already in the user list for Applications) to "Read & Write". This allows me to make Aliases. Not a good long-term solution, though.
    I think I'll try re-installing Leopard and then reinstalling all the updates, and see if that brings back the correct users and permissions for the Applications folder. I hope it will also fix the problem I have with Finder crashing when I try to add users and permissions for an item.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Broken network alias/Weird netstat results

    After working fine for months, all of a sudden I can't connect to one particular system I have on my home network (it is a network attached storage device). The problem is only from one machine (I have 2 other Macs and they work fine). I also have other systems (including another identical storage device) that all still work fine. My network alias links for this device complain that they are broken. I can't connect regardless of the protocol I use -- SMB, FTP or HTTP. I can't even ping it as I get "no route to host".
    I changed the IP address of the system to see if I could get around it that way -- no good. I checked the network tables (netstat -rn) and found that there are some curious entries for that device both before/after I changed its IP address:
    192.168.1.10 127.0.0.1 UHS 0 0 lo0
    192.168.1.15 link#4 UHLW 0 9 en0
    These appear to be static routes stuck in the routing table that give erroneous routing information on how to travel to my storage device. Any idea how I get rid of these entries as, it seems, they are the key to solving the issues I'm seeing?

    You can use the route command to manipulate your routing tables.
    sudo route delete 192.168.0.10
    Or you can flush them all with route flush but you'd better be prepared to add the default gateway back (e.g. sudo route add default 192.168.0.1).
    But that's more informational than anything, 'cause I don't think that will solve your problem. Something's advertising those routes and they'll probably show right back up. Maybe I'm wrong, give it a try.

  • How to save tool presets as brush presets?

    I have some tool presets that would be very useful, but I normally just go to brush presets, which i have organized and which provide greater flexibility. Is there a way to turn "tool" into a "brush"? Going through defining brush presets, forced me to adjust all kind of things, but as tool presets they are already perfect. There has to be a way to do it easier! Hope you can help.

    I'll ad a giant AOL 'Me Too' to that Gene.  I don't blame Lynda and Bruce when there is $1.5b on the table, but I think it a sad reflection on our times that a dot.com that has questionable worth to our society, can afford to pay so much money for a genuinely useful service like Lynda.com.  Apparently they started with $20k and have built it up with no outside help, so they are sitting pretty right now.
    My concern is that the focus of Lynda.com does not shift even remotely towards business type courses, and away from creative.  BTW  I am absolutely loving my Lynda subscription.  It seems that no matter what the subject, if you ever get stuck on something, there is a world class course to put you straight. As regards Photoshop, I considered myself at least an expert, yet I have been able to find game changing new tips on almost a daily basis.  Or sometimes just a better way of doing things.  It absolutely helps to go into the expert courses with a good working knowledge, because it means you pick up the content straight away, and hopefully remember it.
    Somebody was smiling down on me the day I was about to commit $250 for a year's subscription, and literally as I sat down at the computer, there was a ping to tell me a new email had arrived, and it turned out to be offering that same subscription for $150.  I suspect the apparent coincidence was driven by my recent visits to the site, but if that email had arrived ten minutes latter, I'd have been down a $100.  :-)

  • Sidebar alias to nas folder disappears

    I use several nas folders from a thecus nas, mounted with AFP. Some of them i have dragged to the sidebar to "Favorites". With OS/X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 all was running well. Every time i clicked on an alias, the folder comes up or comes up after it was automatically mounted.
    Since updating to OS/X 10.9 the aliases disappears from the sidebar under several conditions. Common to those is, that the folder is not mounted when clicking on the alias. When f.i. trying to store a file in a nas folder while the folder is not mounted, under 10.6-8 the folder got mounted and storing was possible. Now, under 10.9, clicking on a not mounted alias folder, the folder disappears from the sidebar, in the store dialog sidebar as well as in the finder sidebar. And there are several other situations which makes the alias disappear.
    Has anybody an idea what the problem is (with Mavericks) and how to solve it ?

    I have been experiencing an allied problem where aliases to files that I put into the sidebar periodically disappear...

  • Aperture Presets and BorderFx Presets

    I know that many people have created presets for Aperture 3, which can be exported and shared with others when it comes to processing/adjusting images.  I was wondering if there is a similar way to share presets saved with an Aperture Plugin like BorderFx?  In particular is there a way download presets of frames developed by others?  I'm not very good at designing frames, and would like some standard frame presets.  Is this possible?
    Thanks.

    There does not appear to be any built-in way to do this.
    You might try to contact the developer.  There is a link on the BorderFX home page.
    If you are comfortable with editing plists, you might have some success adding to BorderPresets.plist
