Broken screen...help!

i don't know how or what happend but i whent to use my ipod after i whent like a week with out using it and the screen was broke. there is a little ink blotch under the screen. i asume i have to send it to apple. can they fix it and about how much will it cost me? its the 60gb. i have a lot of stuff on it. will apple erase it if i sent it to them and how long will they have it? will i be better of selling it for what little its worth on ebay and just buy th 80gb?

I would first call apple. If you have any scratches, dents or any damage Apple will not replace it. If you can get to an apple store I would try that. If you chose to replace your screen I would suggest that you do it yourself if you have any mech ability. It is not that hard. I have replaced several on the videos and on nanos as well. I would not suggest you buy your screen or parts from ifixipodmodsfast.com or ipodmods.com or any other third party repair place. They are way to high for the same part and brand name you will pay sometimes five or six times as much for the same part. I would suggest going under ebay and doing a search. That is where I get all my parts now and have been well pleased. They have genuine oem apple parts. For example for a nano they want 65 dollars for the screen and On ebay for under 15 you can get one. I just bought a screen with the same manufacture as the one that was in my nano and I paid 9.99 and 5 dollars shipping for it. For the ipod video you can find them for under 30 dollar including shipping. Just got a 60 percent brighter screen that works great on my older 5th gen. Or do a search and find a third party replacement place if you don't have any mech skills.

i need to view some messages on my blackberry only that my screen is broken and cant access it. is there a way to view my messages online that are on my phone ?

Unfortunately, the only way to view texts sent to your number are to view it on your phone. If the display is broken to the point that you can't see them, you should either get another device (either by way of upgrade, lent from friends or family since you can switch phones w/o penalty, or by way insurance or the Certified Pre-Owned program) or ask people to text you at a different number.

  • MCP 13" Broken screen HELP!

Hi, I recently bought a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13"
Now I got a two year warrenty I think with the laptop, now I want to know if the warrenty will cover it. If not could I do something (break it more?) to have the laptop replaced etc etc
If none of that is possible what is the cheapest fix... (I live in Hong Kong and there is a Apple Store there)

Your warranty won't cover user damage... only defects in the products.
The best advice that I can offer is that you take the machine into the Apple Store and have them give you an estimate to replace the screen. It won't be cheap.
I don't know about Japan, but in the US we have riders that we can purchase for our computers on our homeowner's/renter's insurance that includes accidental damage for computers. You may want to contact your insurance company and see if you have this type of insurance for your computer equipment.

  • Broken Screen... HELP!      DVI/S-Video

    Hello Apple Friends,
I recently bought a 2nd hand Titanium G4 Powerbook off a guy I know. I had used it before, and knew it to be a good machine. Unfortunately, the warranty has run out, but then the hinges went. I knew they were about to go and just wanted to use it as a desktop. Unfortunately, I moved house and the screen must have been knocked, and now I can not get a picture. I can tell the computer is still working fine, but the screen isn't.
I've been told its a DVI model and I can plug it into an external screen either using a DVI cable or an S-video cable. Although I understand that monitors take VGA cables. Does anyone have any experience or advice concerning this?
    All help welcome.
    Tom

You can obtain displays that use different types of interfaces. Many of the displays distributed by Wintel manufacturers, certainly most cheaper ones, still use VGA, but there are many who are also embracing DVI. Apple, for example, has been using DVI technology for several years; all of the currently shipping Cinema displays are DVI. A 20-inch Cinema display is a great companion to a 15-inch PowerBook (even if it has a broken screen).
Having said that, if you have broken hinges, and the computer was subject to some sort of trauma with that display floating around and not latched, you could have jerked loose the display connectors. If that is what happened, reseating the connectors could possibly fix the video on the internal display.
I'd take the machine to a local Apple service provider or Apple Store. They can verify whether that is the case, and they could also verify that your computer will work with a DVI display (that there is not a bigger video issue of some sort) - I'm sure they'd be more than happy to sell you one, too.

  • IPhone broken screen warranty help

If I purchase a sealed iPhone with a broken screen, caused by shipping, on ebay still covered by one year warranty...could I have apple fix it or send me a new one?

This is a user to user help forum only so on one here can answer what Apple will do in this situation definitively but IMO, I think it is doubtful that Apple will cover this under warranty since they did not ship the iPhone to you.
Since this eBay seller is reporting this iPhone has a cracked screen but the plastic wrapping has not been removed and is probably selling it for less than you can purchase one from Apple or AT&T which is why you are so interested, but you are risking having Apple cover this under warranty which I would not do but if you want to gamble with this, go for it but have the this eBay seller promise in writing to reimburse you if Apple does not cover this under warranty after you return it to the seller.

my mac a1181 has a totaly broken screen that cannot be used at all and i want to get my info from the hard drive off please help

You don't have an iBook.  You have a MacBook.  Boot with the T key, and connect a Firewire cable to it.  If the model you have is originally Firewire 400, and you have either an 800 or Thunderbolt machine, you can get adapters from http://www.macsales.com/ to connect the two.

  • I need to install the HP drivers on a laptop with a broken screen in order to get VGA port to work.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
Hewlett Packard Model: 2000 2a20ca Notebook
Oh my god please give me some insight here, it is so hard to find the right answers and I refuse to lose to this technical box that's driving me nuts! So here's the run down:
My screen broke on laptop...fine. It was connected via HDMI to TV and working fine. Until one day it decided to not turn on. I think due to Windows updates and hubby had no patience so kept restarting
I tried to reload Windows on it, not thinking about the drivers, and I'm pretty sure I managed to reload Windows. Now I need the drivers to install chipset, networking etc. (which I have a disc for)
The problem is I cannot see the screen in order to click "install", I can't see the BIOS or the boot sequence. Ugh! And even if I could, the drivers are not installed to use the CD ROM or VGA port.
I can HEAR Windows start up and turn on! Doo-DO-Doo-DO lol the darn thing is working!
The monitor works in my other laptop.
Would/Should the VGA monitor work if I could get it to start in safe mode?
I've heard of a program that can streamline the driver's into a Windows installation disc so everything is installed altogether but how can I reinstall Windows if the drivers aren't loaded for the CD ROM?
Is there a way to get the necessary drivers installed? or is this notebook now garbage?

    RocknRoll77 wrote:
    Seriously?
    1.  The model number is the first thing at the top aside from the OS.
    2.  In my explanation it states:  "I have the drivers on a disk"
    Thanks for all your help!
Getting the drivers is not the problem.  Getting the drivers installed on a laptop with a broken screen...is the problem.
Ok, well sometimes you can't use external monitor to see what is happening in some laptops and the only real way to fix this is to fix the broken screen so you can reformat and resinstall the system again. Those are you only options at this point in time.

    Hi Linda Loo Loo,
If you have backed up previously to iTunes on a specific computer, even if it has been a while, you may be able to still backup even if you are unable enter the passcode on your iPhone due to a damaged screen. You may find the following article helpful:
If you have previously synced your device with iTunes, you may be able to reset the passcode by restoring the device:
Connect the device to the computer with which you normally sync and open iTunes.
Note: If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer" section below.
If the device is still disabled, or if iTunes does not automatically sync your device, sync the device with iTunes.
When the backup and sync is complete, restore your device.
When iOS Setup Assistant asks to set up your device, choose "Restore from iTunes backup".
Select your device in iTunes and choose the most recent backup of your device.

  • Broken screen, not able to log in, need to do system restore

    1. Pavilion dv6500 laptop with broken screen.
    2. Operating system: Vista
3.Error message: "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"
    4. Microsoft updates?
I need to know (a) the key stokes required to carry out a system restore to a saved restore point and (b) the key strokes to carry out a hp system recovery without being able to see the screen.
I need this to try to retrieve the data I have on a laptop with a broken screen and vga port. I have been using an HDMI cable to connect it to a monitor but recently, vista stopped allowing me to log into my user account (giving the error above). To fix this I would use safe mode to modify my registry but safe mode does not project through the HDMI port to the external screen.
Therefore, I would like to know (a) the key strokes required to restore to a saved restore point and (b) the key strokes to carry out a hp system recovery without being able to see the screen or use the mouse.
    Thanks.

Simplest solution to retrieve data under those circumstances to me would be to remove your HDD
Plug it into another computer by eSata
Then just copy whatever you wanted onto the other HDD.

I got a Nokia Lumia 520 via Vodafone 6 weeks ago.  The other night the screen froze completely and I couldn't do anything, even turn the phone off.  I looked online at suggestions and tried to reset the phone, but nothing happened.  So I then decided to take out the battery.  I followed the online instructions for removing the back, and the screen just shattered.  When I went into the Vodafone shop they didn't believe that the phone had crashed before the screen cracked and won't do a free repair.  On top of that, I have lost all my contact numbers because they couldn't retrieve them via bluetooth because the phone wasn't working. Apparently with these windows phones the contacts are saved to the phone, not the Sim, so I am now completely stressed out, have lost numbers that have been transferred from phone to phone for over 10 years and have a huge bill to pay.  I am not at all happy. The only reason I bought a Nokia was because I have had several others over the years which have been brilliant -this one is definitely not and I think Nokia should be compensating people if this is a common problem.
Your phone contacts are saved to your windows live account, you can go to www.live.com, login with the account that u used on your phone, and export contacts to a file.
Also if you use the same live account on a windows phone, contacts will be restored to the phone
