Broken SG 200-08p switch?? Blinking LED

I turned unplugged it and plugged it back in.  Now its blinking green power LED.  Is it dead?

By default the switch obtains a DHCP address. If you do not save the running config to the start up config then reboot the switch, the LED will blink green and the switch will get a DHCP address from your network.

  • SG 200-08P - connecting PCs and Phones

    Hello,
we have a serious problem over here with some new SG 200-08P switches firmware: 1.0.6.2
    They are setup behind 2 SG-200 50 layer 2 switches - actual firmware 1.3.2.02.
We have 4 VLANs: 1 for DATA and 2 for PHONE, 10 fpr MGMNT and 20 for GUESTS - on the 08-P only VLAN 1+2 is needed. CDR protocoll is active.
Ports 1-7 on the 08-P is setup as "Trunk, 1U, 2T", parameter: Auto Negotiation ON. We tried FlowControl ON and OF - makes no difference. Port 8 is setup as "Trunk, 1U, 2T, 10T" to the floor switch. The connecting port on the floor switch SG-200 50-switch ist setup as "Trunk, 1U, 2T, 10T".
One of the problem switches: on port 1-4 of the 08-P there are connected 4 Cisco 6921 phones . On Port 5-7 there are connected 1 HP Z400 and 2 Elite 7200 PCs. One of the 6921 phones is switching to a DELL Latitude 6420 laptop.
So it happens every morning, that the first staring PC ist working fine, then the switch has to be switched off and on to get the next PCs connected to the network. The switching 6921 phone does not connect at all. But after some more switching off/on it works.
We thried another 08-P hardware with the same config, we tried an older firmware level ... we setup the PoE-phone ports as GENERAL 1U, 2T. We gave external power to the phones so that PoE is not overloaded ... nothing helps. Only some switching off/on helps and the PC gets its IP address from DHCP and the phones all come up an find the CU 6000.
Is there someone outside who may give a helping hand on this?
    Thanks so far...

    Hi Jens-Peter,
I would try disabling smartports and green ethernet on the SG200 switches.  Then you will need to hardcode each of the ports to have the necessary settings.  Often times when a reboot is required to restore functionality smartports is the cause.
As for the 6921 phones, you need to be sure to have auto voice vlan enabled.  Otherwise the phones will not be able to pick up the correct VLAN via CDP.  Let me know, if you have any questions.

  • SG 200-08p Wont upgrade firmware

I have a fleet of the SG-200-08P switches which are way behind on firmware. I went to upgrade them to the newest firmware available:
         "sx200_fw_1.3.7.18.ros"
After about a 5-7 minute wait, the web interface returned the message (tired multiple times):
"Firmware Image download through HTTP failed. Wrong File Type."
I reset the router, same results. I went and installed the second most recent verson, "SG200-08x_FW_1.0.7.4.stk", which installed without any issues. Then tried the "sx200_fw_1.3.7.18.ros" file and again with the same result:
"Firmware Image download through HTTP failed. Wrong File Type."
I then did a factory reset and tried again, same results. It seems that none of my routers want to use the .ros files, it preferes the .stk files. What am I doing wrong?
I'm accessing the upgrade feature via "Main Menu -> Administration -> Upgrade/Backup firmware" and have it set to:
      X - via Http
      X - Upgrade
      X - Firmware image
    Please HELP!!!

Thanks for the info. I was working off another post where someone laid claim to installing the 1.3.x firmware on their sg200 to enable SNMP protocols for Spiceworks Management software.
Does this mean there is no SNMP options for the SG200-08P switches?

  • Force Switch Port LED to Blink

    Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if there is a method of forcing a non connected switch port LED to blink for a certain number of times regardless if there is anything connected.
The purpose of this is we have remote 3750 switch stacks and quite often have to tell non technical staff to patch to a certain port. It would be much easier if we could say "Connect it to the empty port which just started blinking orange" as the port numbers are difficult for them to see in these locations.
A similar feature is available in the ethtool package for linux which makes it really easy for identifying ports on servers. It would be great if a similar feature is available on Cisco switches.
    Thanks,

    Hi Kris,
The Nexus 5K, 7K and MDS platforms allow use of interface beacon mode:
    switch(config)# interface ethernet 3/1
    switch(config-if)# beacon
The beacon mode allows you to identify a physical port by flashing its link-state LED with a green light. At this stage, the feautre is not available platforms. Hope this helps!

  • PoE does no work for my SG 200-08P ?

    Hi,
I've bought two SG 200-08P which have their 1-4 ports who can delivered PoE.
Whatever the PoE equipments I plug into those ports, it doesn't work.
If I plug a non PoE equipment in the 1-8 ports it's working fine.
I can log into the web interface of the switch, and when I go to "Port Management > PoE > Properties", I can see the following screen:
I don't know how switch the "Power" option to "On"...
I have the exactly same issue with a second and new SG 200-08P.
I've changed the firmware and I am now in the 1.0.6.2 version but I have the problem with the original version.
I also try to reset the switch several times, but it doesn't change anything.
Is anyone has a idea to what can I do or test ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Tom,
For now, I only try to connect differents Siemens IP phones (1 or 2 or 3 PoE classes) : OpenStage 20,
    OpenStage 40 and OpenStage 60.
Those Siemens phones are working fine with other PoE switches like linksys, HP, catalyst, 300 series, Netgear ...
I've just noticed something interesting, in the "Status and Statistics > View Log > RAM Memory" menu :
When I clear the logs, only my computer is connected on port 8...
I'll try to find other PoE devices, to test with.
    Regards.

  • SG 200-08P Secure lockdown question/s

I have an SG 200-08P. I need to restrict access to the web interface for security. Unfortunately I have found this nearly impossible.
    - Is there any way to restrict access to HTTPS? Seems simple but I haven't found a method of doing so. IIRC this is required for compliance with some security standards.
    - How can I set the switch to only allow management from a single port (it seems like this is an option but I haven't figured out how). Every time I try to set up a VLAN for administration the switch ends up locking out all connections or something similar and I have to reset it.
    - As far as I can tell the 'cisco' user can not be deleted, disabled, or removed from administration under any circumstances. Is that really correct? Seems like a horrific security hole to me.
Thanks in advance for your time.

I finally got things configured so only one phisical port can be used for administration.
I am still not happy with Cisco for disallowing the re-naming of the default user and especially for leaving HTTP open no matter what.

  • SG 200-08P config and firmware

    Hi,
we just got 10 new devices with the actual fw 1.0.6.2.
Two problems were coming up ...
First: user and password ... The other SG 200 switches allow password with special characters like !? ... the SG 200-08 does not! That is not very helpful.
And we would like to have this fixed.
Second: After configuation of VLANs along with CDP an Cisco Phones we always had to restart the device to be sure the configuation change was applied. Otherwiese we were hunting problems that did not really exist. May be this could be fixed in a new version of the firmware, too.
    Thanks ;-)

  • SG 200-08P

Do you know what the applications of the following may be?
We are using a Cisco smart switch (model # SG 200-08P) and pinging the WK2 to check for Ethernet communication.  When “DHCP auto configuration” is enabled the Cisco switch generates a consistant TFTP read request:
    Opcode: Read Request (1)
    Source File: fp-net.cfg
    Type: octet
This subsequently locks up the WK2 for a few seconds at a time and disables Ethernet communication.  If the “DHCP auto configuration” is disabled on the Cisco switch, then there are no problems.
    Test Results:
    DHCP Auto Config Enabled:
    6ft/Direct PCB – Fail
    100m/Direct PCB –Fail
    6ft/ Jumper –Fail
    100m/ Jumper –Fail
    DHCP Auto Config Disabled:
    6ft/Direct PCB – Pass
    100m/Direct PCB –Pass
    6ft/ Jumper –Pass
    100m/ Jumper –Pass

  • SG-200-08P POE

Hi. I have a configuration whereby I use a SG-200-08P to power a SG-200-08 (no PSU connected) which in turn is connected to another SG-200-08 that is powered via PSU. It seemed to work but recently I've been getting connectivity issues. The Ethernet cable from the non PSU powered SG-200-08 to the PSU powered SG-200-08 is 100m. Are there any ways to configure these switches in order to resolve the connectiviy issues? Thanks.

Tom, many thanks for the response. I definitely think it's a power issue as the connection to my laptop keeps trying to connect/identify for a few seconds, then stops, then trys again/again and 100m is quite a long run from a switch that's powered by POE. Configuration is as follows:-
    Router -->>--SG-200-08P -->>-- 100m -->>-- SG-200-08 (no PSU) -->>-- 100m -->>-- SG-200-08 (with PSU) -->>-- Laptop
My first thoughts were to attach the PSU to the SG-200-08 in the middle that's running off POE at present. Although because a power source isn't easily available there I was hoping I could perhaps divert more power to the port in the SG-200-08P that's powering the SG-200-08. Thanks. Guy

  • Losing your blinking LED

Those of you that have to restart occasionally to get back your blinking LED this might help.
I had this issue for months. I noticed I would lose mine shortly after getting a notification from Accuweather. After I disabled the notifications I had to also do it to facebook and twitter. Haven't lost the blinking LED in almost a month.
    Good luck

    Thanks for providing the info!

  • Help with Curve 9300...just quit, only blinking LED!!

I just got this phone due to AT&T take over of Alltel....It has only been activated about a week. I was in the process of syncing from my computer to the phone, and the desktop manager prompted that the device was not on....I looked and the screen was black, with only the red LED light blinking randomly in the upper right corner. I have removed the battery for as long as ten minutes and still NOTHING!
Previously, when I plugged into the computer, it immediately popped up on the computer screen....now it does nothing....I have tried to hold the green "call" button down....nothing....just the red  random blinking LED light !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Can someone help please??

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Some 2950 switch ports led turn amber even without cable connection

Hello. Due to a likely NIC problem, after connecting my laptop to a port on the 2950 switch, the led turns amber even after disconnecting the cable.
2 ports on the switch are having this problems. Ideally the led should be off when nothing is connected.
Please, how can I correct this problem without restarting the switch because its in a production environment.
    Eddy

    Hello,
which two switchports are amber? Try toggling the port LED modes by pressing the mode button.
    Have a look at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008007e889.html#xtocid41699
for the different port modes meanings and their respective usage of port LEDs.
It would also be helpful to see the port status from the switch CLI in case the procedure above didn´t solve the problem.
    Hope this helps

  • VLANs with DHCP on SG 200-50 switches

    Hello,
I have 3 Cisco SG 200-50 switches ithat I'm using for a new set up. The 3 switches plug into a SonicWall appliance for routing and Internet access. I would like each SG switch to be a separate VLAN (ie. VLAN 10, VLAN 20, VLAN 30).
So I have my main network at the SonicWall level: 10.10.0.1
    Switch A (SG 200-50) would be VLAN 10: 10.10.10.1
    Switch B (SG 200-50) would be VLAN 20: 10.10.20.1
    Switch C (SG 200-50) would be VLAN 30: 10.10.30.1
On my "main" network I have my email, DNS, and DHCP servers which supply the IP addresses for each VLAN. I have my DHCP server configured with 3 scopes (1 per VLAN). However I can't see a way using these switches to tell these VLANs which scope to request IP addresses from?
Am I doing this wrong or should I redesign my layout?
    Thanks in advance!

Everything Tom said, and depending on what FW version your sonicwall is running, you can do 802.1q trunking. Please see this tech document: http://o-www.sonicwall.com/app/projects/file_downloader/document_lib.php?t=TN&id=49
While the SG300 switches are much more robust; (you can assign an IP interface to each VLAN and use the switch as the default gateway to reach other VLANs, another router, the internet, etc)  it looks like you'll be fine since sonicwall has been implementing this feature since at least 2008.

  • HP Pc310-1125f power switch blinks 3 times

    Hi All,
Have a HP all inone PC 310-1125f. When power is applied power switch blinks 3 times. Nothing else, board shows power. Also when you push power switch the switch blinks 3 times. Have reseated everything, swapped HD,Memory. Does anyone have any ideas. It is out of warranty.

OK partial solution. The battery was flat. The owner is using a non OEM charger and it's not very good. Coupled with the CPU eating battery because it's flat out running all the virii, the charger can't keep up.
I'm cleaning the thing up now via safe mode. This can be closed. I'll post nack if I need more guidance.

  • Series 200 Smart Switch not communicating, DHCP blocked

I have a small, simple small business network.  There are 2 switches - an 8-port switch connected to my main Windows server (which is the DHCP provider for the network), and a 24-port switch which is plugged into the 8-port switch.
I replaced these switches (Dell unmanaged switches) with the Cisco 200 series smart switches (the 8-port and 26-port models).  When I plug the 26-port switch into the 8-port switch, it is unable to get its DHCP address from the Windows server.  Also, any device plugged into the 26-port switch cannot communicate with any other device, and all of the ethernet port lights flash at the same time at the same frequency - quite a light show!
If I plug the Windows server DIRECTLY into the 26-port switch it receives a DHCP address.
I have tried a 2nd Cisco 26-port swtich and it does the same thing, so I assume it is not a hardware issue.
What is the solution to this problem?

    Louis,
Try this, go into the first 200 series switch that is connected to the server and go to the spanning tree tab.
Under the spanning tree tab properties, set the bridge priority to 0.  This makes this switch the spanning tree root.
Try this and see if the second switch passes traffic and receives and ip address.
