Broken USB cable

My 30-pin to USB cable is frayed. Normally I'd use self-service to order a new cable and send my broken one back, but the new self-service doesn't offer the USB cable as a replaceable item (only optional accessories, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me). Does anyone know how to order a replacement cable? Or will I have to call Apple...

My iPad cable has also broken in exactly the same place as my iPhone cable, and it's replacement. My iPad cable is less than a year old and will be contacting them for a replacement ...... IF I can find an address or email which doesnt exist on their website.  Cables don't seem to be listed and I'm certainly NOT paying for yet another.
Anyone know how to contact them?

  • Another broken usb cable!

I have an iphone 5 and for about the 4th or 5th time i have a usb cable that is no longer working. They are pretty expensive considering what they actually are. Any recommendations for a cheaper option that actually works and wont affect my phone?

You must be very careless with your cables.  I have multiple iDevices and have never had a cable issue.  Of course, I don't yank on the cords or kink them.
BTW, the cables have the same warranty as the iDevice with which it came.  Is there a reason you didn't bring the broken cable back to Apple?  If a manufacturing defect was detected (and not user abuse, which I suspect is the case here), your cable would be replaced under warranty.

  • My ipod is broken in where you would put the usb cable into the ipod

my ipod is broken in where you would put the usb cable into the ipod to charge it or to connect it to the laptop does anyone know if it can be fixed

Any Apple store or an AASP will repair it for a fee!  If you want DIY instructions try the iPod Repair Tutorials and the YouTube "How To" tutorial websites.

  • IPod Video - USB Cable connector area is broken

It appears that our USB cable got dented, and then when we went to plug it into the iPod that it damaged the port where you plug in the USB cable. We sent the iPod in to Apple (it's under warranty) and they simply sent it back to us in the same shape. They didn't even tell us "it will cost you $x if you want us to fix it". They want us to buy a new one. Which makes little sense.
I'm looking at online repair tutorials but I don't see any tutorial for the USB cable port. No manual shows that section of the iPod. Am I right in thinking that this port is an integral part of the motherboard, so what I am doing is replacing the $99 motherboard of the unit? I realize once I do that it's out of warranty, but heck, it's broken right now and Apple isn't even offering to fix it for a fee ... they want us to go buy a brand new one.
This is a fourth generation video iPod

I think the topic starter means iPod 3G not the second generation iPhone 3G.
But sorry, I don't know. I never used the new USB-cable for the iPod 3G, I always used Firewire.

  • I have a USB cable is broken. Can I replace the new one

I have a USB cable is broken can I replace the new one

    Hi V_26th_heaven,
Your local Apple Store will happily replace the USB cable as long as the device you got it with (eg. an iPod) was bought less than a year ago. This is because the device and all included accessories have a one-year-warranty.
If you live far from an Apple Store, you can get Apple to send you a new cable via post and you would send off your faulty cable in a box that comes with the replacement cable. To do this, click on Support at the top of the page and select 'iPod Accessories' and choose your preferred method of service.
    Good Luck,
    Stefan

  • Charging not supported with this accessory shows up on my iPad. The cable seems to be broken at the connector. Could it be that I need a new USB cable?

Yes, but should be covered under the warranty of your device (or any device under warranty using that cable) just bring it into the store.

  • USB Cable for device broken easily

USB cable is easy to be broken between the head of the USB and the wire or between the lighting and the wire. Seem like the apple USB cable is thinner than the one the Belkin sell at the istudio.

If you prefer to use a non-Apple cable, be sure it is one that is certified by Apple, such as the Belken...with iOS 7 the devices are now able to look at the cable itself and if it is not up to Apple specifications will not accept the cable.  You will get a device not recognized error.

  • HT1665 we have 2 Iphone 5 in the family for 6 months and 2 USB cables have broken already, is there a subsitute cable as the Apple one is usless

I have had 2 USB cables break for Ipone 5 within 6 months. These cables are very bad and I suggest a design fault
We had no problems with the older phone cables

  • USB cable broken

Hi I was wondering if I would have to pay for a new USB cable for my iPad mini as it's still has warranty
The issue is I went to unplug my iPad mini from the cable but the cable end that connects to iPad was stuck in my iPad
    Please say u can help

The cable has the same warranty as the device; however, Apple will not repair the connector piece inside the port if the reports here are true. You'll have to take it to an electronics shop to get that piece removed. Best of luck.

  • How do I use my iphone 4S wifi on my laptop via USB cable

Hi with my HTC when I connected it to my laptop via USB cable a list of options came up on my phones screen and one of them was to tethering. But when I do the same with my iPhone no options come up on my screen, so how do I use my iPhones wifi on on my laptop useing a USB cable?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
My laptop runs on windows vista and my iPhone 4s has the latest updates.

I want to use my home wifi signal to tether my iPhone to my laptop via USB ,as my laptops wifi card is broken. It worked ok with my old HTC desire as when I can extend it to my laptop it had a list os options of what you wanted to do and one of them was tethering, as I'm useing my home wifi I don't need to worry about my data usage. But thank you for responding.

  • My itunes said I needed an update, I unplugged the ipod touch and reset everything. When "connect to itunes" showed on the screen, I plugged it back in and Itunes no longer recognizes it.  I tried 4 usb cables, 4 different computers, all new itunes

I've gone through all the troubleshooting of restarting computers & itunes and updating itunes.  Trying to put in to DFU mode.  I've tried everything.   iTunes just doesnt recognize this ipod.   I have multiple ipods/iphones, and everything else works.   I am eliminating the people who are saying it's a broken pin, that cannot be it, because immediately before that moment, it was connected, everything on my ipod was listed in iTunes.  It just promted me to update to 6.0.1 (or whatever the most recent is)  I also seen a lot of issues posted on the web of people who had jailbroken phones.  This ipod touch is standard, there were no jailbreaks or anything used ever.
There was a program called Wondershare Dr.Fone, which is said to be a photo recovery tool for ipods, to retrieve recently deleted photos.  (Guess I shouldn't have been trying to do that)  I downloaded this trial and when it opened it stated that Itunes and this could not run at the same time.  It shut down iTunes automatically.  At that point, I didn't do anything more with the Wondershare Dr. Fone, I didn't try to run the program or anything.  iTunes prompted me that the device needed to be upgraded to 6.0.1.  I had an option to download or download and install the updated 6.0.1 from Itunes.  I clicked on download only.  So iTunes was downloading the new version from my iPod Touch.  I shut it down the Wondershare Dr. Fone, unplugged the iphone from itunes/computer, went in to settings and did a master reset.  I plugged the device back in to the computer when the iTunes logo and usb came on the screen, and the computer/iTunes doesn't recognize it anymore.  I've tried 4 different usb cables and four different comuters all with up to date iTunes software.  I did not break the port either, nothing is inside the port, or blocking it in anyway.  All 4 computers and usb cables connected fine to other ipods and iphones.
    So the questions are:
How can I get my ipod out of restore mode (iTunes logo and usb cord sybol) without iTunes recognizing it?
What could I have possibly done to this ipod?
Why doesn't anyone have the answer anywhere on the internet?
(Note:  Even if the Ipod is placed in DFU mode, iTunes does not recognize it)
    Please help!
    Yours Truly,
Me & My UnRestorable IPOD TOUCH

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

  • USB Cable problem with HP Photosmart 7960 printer

This may sound like a stupid question but I just bought a new 7960 printer to replace my old 7960 which has two out of the three ink cartridge holders broken and the usb port on the new printer won't accept a usb cable. It appears to be blocked by a cap insert over the connector prongs which will not come out. Any suggestions?

Here is a link with some troubleshooting steps that may help to solve the issue you are having with your printer:

Paper feed problems are a hardware issue, if none of these steps help I would recommend contacting HP for upgrade options. I have included a link with directions for contacting HP:

  • Older  USB Cable vs. new

So my ipod touch won't charge or sync if I use the old USB cable from previously bought iPods or chargers. Is this a problem with my iPod or are the new iPods not compatible with the older USB cables and chargers?

My first iPod was a b/w iPod 4G. I still use the Firewire cable with AC adapter for charging my new iPod Touch. The USB cable is the same I used on that old iPod, that I use on the Touch. Unless you have cut the wire or have a broken port on either end of the wire, then the USB cable should work fine.

  • Cannot charge my daughter's ipod touch nor does the computer even realize it is hooked up to the USB cable

cannot charge my daughter's ipod touch nor does the computer acknowledge that it is plugged into the USB cable.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • TA44551 my gen 4 iPod doesn't charge, the usb cable is good(works on other apple products) What should i do?

my gen 4 iPod doesn't charge, the usb cable is good(works on other apple products) What should i do?

What normally happens is most people take showers and listen to thier ipods or live around many sources of humidity.  Moisture corrodes the 30 pin connector on the ipod touch.  Clean and inspect the ipod touch's connection pins to resolve most charging/ sync issues.. The pins could also be dirty, bent or broken.  If dirty: Take 91% rubbing alcohol, dip a tooth brush into it, shake the excessive alcohol off leaving the brush damp(don't use to much alcohol, it should not be dripping).  Careful!!! The Pins are Very Fragile! Gently brush the connector pins, long ways, left to right in a few second bursts, inspecting the pins as you go...   If you have an eye loop or magnifying glass you can see inside the connector easily and see if the pins look dirty or bent or broken.  If they are bent you have to VERY GENTLY stand them back up.  If they are bent very far down, chances are you will snap them off trying to straighten them back up.  If they are not severely bent over, use a very small flat head precision screw driver to bend the pin back parallel with the good pins.  Pease note: certain pins are used by the wire for different things such as sync or charging... If your pins are broken off, do a search and find out what the individual pins on the ipod 30 pin connector do to see what is affected.  Worst case is your pins are broken off.  U can attempt to solder the broken pins back on without opening the ipod touch, which is super difficult to do, or you can open the touch and repair/replace to 30 pin connector entirely.  U will need to do some micro soldering to say to least! Don't attempt unless you are confident in your soldering skills and research how to open an ipod touch? You will need some specific tools and watch out for floating LINT!  Get some canned air ;) use a small 1/2 second bursts from 4-6" away because it will steam up you touch if used for to long. Good luck!
