Broken wlan card

I  have a dell inspiron m5010 that i got from a friend (with no charger, luckily i had one from the inspiron 1520) running on linux and after months of that annoyence i took it to a store to get win 7 reinstalled (and it was a dell aproved store)on it and he said that "the wlan card has something wrong with" and its not identified at all in device manger, not even as "unknown device" , is there any way to safely replace it, and i do know it came with wifi and as of its service code is 5 years old and its warrenty has expired.

no i have done that twice, and both times the usb adapter has broke so, that wouldn't work for me. also, cute cat in your profile picture!

  • Tecra M5 PTM51E - 05Q0423C WLAN card change

i want to change the WLAN card (Intel 3945ABG) but can't find it .
is there a normal MPCI card and where can i find it ?
is there any kind of exploded drawing ?

WLAN card exchange on Tecra M5 is pretty complicated and it should be done by authorized personal only.
Card is placed near the touchpad and to have full access to it the whole notebook must be disassembled.
Please think twice before you make decision to do this alone. Small mistake can result with broken parts or plastic holders.

  • How can I recover files from an iMac 2009 with a broken graphic card.

My old iMac has a broken graphics card. Instead of getting it replaced or fixed I needed a computer quickly. I decided to get a MacPro. I'm able to boot up the old iMac and my MacPro can now read the files in the iMac. I have been transferring files from the old iMac to the MacPro via ethernet connection as the USB to USB was running slow. Is there a faster way to transfer the files between the two?
Is there a way I can delete the files on the iMac when I'm done transferring the files I wanna keep? Right now it won't let me delete anything from the iMac hard drive especially the locked Files.
Is there a way I can connect another monitor to the iMac if it has a broken graphics card? I'm assuming it's the graphics card cause I researched it on youtube and my iMac has the same screen they're describing when you have a graphics card issue.
    Thanks.

What is the iMac model? Does it have Thunderbolt? Do you have Firewire? Can you connect them via any combination of Firewire & Thunderbolt?
Thunderbolt & Firewire support something called 'target disk mode'
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
OS X Mountain Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
That will allow you to see the iMac as an 'external hard disk'. They are the fastest way to access the full disk.
At the moment it sounds like you are using file sharing over ethernet - this is not the way to access everything on the iMac's disk & will result in you failing to copy data that you don't have read permission.
You can also erase the iMacs HD over target disk mode if you really want to remove the OS & data.
I don't believe it is possible to connect up two Macs via USB to USB so please clarify what you used. You may have been doing the right thing before you switched to ethernet.
    EDIT:
Nevermind about the model, 2009 iMacs didn't have Thunderbolt so you will need to use Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt.

  • Dell Inspiron 14R WLAN Card Disabled

    Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 14R running Windows 7 64 bit. I have had my PC from this past November; about 7 months.
I was using my PC, and suddenly, I started to experience wireless problems. I was unable to get onto the internet. Other devices on my wireless network are able to log on to our network, although that is irrelevant because my radio wasn't picking up anything at all, when it always had from that same location. The connection worked fine using an ethernet cable. After the problem occurred, my Targus Bluetooth mouse also stopped working.  This is what I have tried:
Going into Network and Sharing Center, disabling my network adapter, and then enabling it again. This usually does the trick. After doing it over 5 times, it never worked.
Doing a simple system restore. I attempted restoring 3 different times to an update within the last week, each of which failed (probably another issue altogether).
Re-installing my WLAN CARD Driver, and then restarting. This didn't solve the problem.
Checking the Device Manager. It reported that the wireless card was running properly.
Using the DW WLAN CARD Utility. It says under the Link Status tab, after Connection Status, Radio Disabled. I tried right-clicking the icon in my Notification Area, and then clicking Enable Radio. It then shows an alert saying "The WLAN card is still disabled. Use the wireless switch or hotkey to enable it." Pressing Fn + F2, which is also supposed to enable the radio, did nothing, with no action or sign whatsoever from Windows. I also tried running tests under the Diagnostics tab. All hardware tests passed, with the Connection test giving me this alert again: "The WLAN card is still disabled. Use the wireless switch or hotkey to enable it," and then failing. The same thing happened when running the CCX Client diagnostics.
What should I do? The problem is obvious that my card is disabled, as all signs point to that. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could fix it? I've tried everything I know, not to mention countless Google searches.
    Thanks!

I am experiencing the same issue with my Inspiron N4010. The network card has disappeared from the system devices. After a reboot, the network connected for about 15 seconds and then went away. I had the system devices displayed at the same time and the network card also disappeared when the network went down. The card worked fine until today. What is the cheapest route to fix this?
Also note the sound has come and gone over the past year. It is not working at the moment. It would be nice to fix both, but will the cost be greater than buying a new laptop or tablet?
I can't say I will ever buy a Dell product again. These laptops seem to only last a year or two. Even my more expensive work laptop which is less than a year old has had its motherboard and hard drive replaced.

  • Resource Conflict with PCMCIA Wlan Card on boot process

    - Did switch off the onboard wlan card in win and also with the switch near the onboard wlan.
    - Did flash the newest bios version
Seems to be that the problem is in the loading process.
Is it possible to switch off the onboard card in the loading process? Even if I am sure that it must be possible to have both cards installed?
I am realy looking forward to get some help.
A pitty that there is no chat.

No, as far as I know you can disable only the LAN card and not WLan card.
The WLan card can be disabled in the device manager.
But did you try to change the BIOS options for the PCMCIA card.
I dont know what notebook you have but the Toshiba BIOS provide configuration options on the second page.
If the Device Config is set to All devices you will be able to change the PC card controller mode to: Auto selected, PCIC compatible or CardBus/16bit
If it does not make any improvements then I assume there is nothing to do

  • Broken video card/hard drive backup/no monitor

I have a broken video card.  How do I back up the harddrive if my screen is unreadable?

Do you have access to another Mac? If so, you might be able to use FireWire Target Disk Mode to mount your hard drive on the other Mac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
You won't be able to see the FireWire  symbol on the Mac with the non-working video, but you should be able to see the drive mount on the desktop of the other Mac. Once it's there, you will be able to access its contents and do your backup.
Also, check to see if your Mac falls under this program:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
If it does, the repair will be done at no cost to you.
    Good luck!

  • Which is the best WLAN card for my lenovo x200 notebook?

    Hello!
I hope somebody could help for me. I bought a new Lenovo X200 notebook but it hasn't got WLAN card. So I have to buy a mini PCI-E WLAN card. In my notebook there is a webcam so I find only 2 wlan cable (1 black and 1 grey). The question is: witch is the best WLAN card for me?
    Intel 5100
    Intel 5300
    or
ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter
    Please help me.
I can use intel 5300 (it has 3 connection port) if I have only 2 cable?

On the Lenovo X200 support page you will find the X200 Hardware Maintenance Manual which lists all the parts in the X200.
You will find there that the 43Y6493 is Lenovo's Intel 5100.
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Qosmio G30-177 broken graphic card

    Hi,
it looks like i have a broken graphic card in my G300.
The boot screen (selection of boot media) looks like the matrix ;-(
While windows is booting it looks like vertical stripes. The boot process crashes with a blue screen.
This is both in the internal display and an external monitor.
Is my idea of the broken graphic card right?
Can the graphic card be replaced?
    Yours Rdiger

    Hi Rdiger
I have the same problem and effect like you with my G30-155 since today afternoon.
I am really asking me now what big chance it can be that we both have the same problem at the same time.
Can it not be that we both got a virus that effected the grafic card ?
Any help and tips are very welcome.
    Regards Charly

  • Satellite M100: Slow WLan data transfer with 3945ABG Intel Wlan card

Have just popped a brand new M100 with XP upgraded to SP2 onto our network and am having trouble with the Wifi.
Everything works, just really really slowly. Takes about 5 minutes to drag an MP3 off the file-server, web pages download at the speed of a dial-up modem and my beard doubles in length waiting for even a modest flash file to load.
Have tried the following so far...
    - Speed is good on the ethernet cable, just not on the wifi.
    - Connection speed is good on the wifi (11Mbps) and signal strength is excellent.
    - All other laptops on the network are working fast
    - I have updated the drivers to the latest provided by intel, no change
    - I have applied all service packs and updates to XP (was a brand new box yesterday)
    - Disabling various modes on the driver make no difference
    - Switching off the QoS mode in the network panel doubled the trickle of data
I see from earlier posts that I'm not the only one who has had this problem with the Intel 3945ABG chips, but I don't see a solution posted. Has anyone had success is solving this kind of problem.
The data throughput is barely usable for internet access and quite inoperable for LAN filesharing or Skype.

Sounds weird. If PCMCIA WLan card gives you good speed it means that there is nothing wrong with your Internet connection, just with built-in wlan card.
You probably should use your warranty services or better yet to return it to the shop and get a new one straight away.
In my country if something brakes within a few days after purchase you don't need to send it to repair under warranty because the shop usually agrees to replace it with new one if they have it in stock.
There is one thing I think you better try: Take it to your friend who has wireless network or to the nearest free hot spot, connect to internet from there and see what speed you get.
It could be, though longshot, that your router has compatibility issues with this specific built-in wlan card.
For example I also have a slight compatibility issue between my d-link router and built-in intel wlan card, but it is about security protocols and not the speed.
Overall it seems to me that this intel wlan card is not that good.

  • Equium M40X: WLan card drivers don't work

    Hello,
I just installed fresh WXP and I can't find wireless drivers in internet. I found 3 or 4 drivers but the device is still not working.
Any idea where to look or what to do?
    Cheers,
    Bilas

What do you mean with still not working?
Can you see the WLan card if you enter the device manager?
Are there any yellow exclamation marks near to the WLan card?
Usually on the Toshiba driver page you should find all necessary drivers also the WLan card drivers. I cant believe that this driver doesnt work.

  • What is the FRU number for R500 2718-bb7 for the WLAN card

Searching for the FRU number for the wireless WLAN card. Believe it is 43Y6493 but want to make sure before the 1802 error comes up. Unauthorized card installed.

Hi vandam_19722002, welcome to the forums,
from what I can see that's an Intel 5100 card.  According to the R500 parts list the 5100 card has the FRU 43Y6461, which was superceded by the FRU 43Y6493 so you shouldn't have a problem with that FRU.
Alternatively have you concidered the 5300 card?  FRU 43Y6459 / 43Y6495   about the difference.

  • Satellite A300D-11v - WLan card doesn't work under Win XP

Ive problem. Im looking everywhere and i dont know whats happened.
I have installed XP and Ive problem with WLAN. Before Ive used Vista and was ok :)
I took driver for RTL8187b from
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=1&PFid=1&Level=6& Conn=5&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true#R TL8187B
and tried from official Toshiba website.
In device manager everything is ok, but I cant connect.
    This doesnt work:
"The WLan card is from Atheros and not from Realtek! The LAN card is Realtek but not WLan card!
The Atheros driver can be found here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
Can somebody write me step after step how this fix.
Please help me and sorry for my English :)

    >Also can try reinstalling the drivers than appear in this web site, here appear the Atheros Drivers than your notebook need.
Your notebook doesnt support Atheros card but Realtek WLan card.
    >In device manager everything is ok, but I cant connect.
As you said the WLan card was recognized properly but you cannot connect.
    Why?
Im not sure why but you should firstly check if your WLan router uses the same WLan standard (802.11 A B or G) like the WLan card.
    Check the settings!
Then check if the right WLan encryption has been chosen, check if the Mac address was not enabled, check if firewall doesnt affect the WLan connectivity.

  • Not booting after installation PCI WLAN-card

    I own a HP Pavilion Elite m9351.nl.
Recently I replaced the pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium by Windows 7 Ultimate.
Since then the internal WLAN-card does not wake up from standby. Also replacing the driver with the newest Ralink-driver does not solve this.
    Everything else works perfectly.
I removed the internal WLAN-card completely (including removing drivers) and replaced it by a PCI WLAN-card (D-link WMA-547). Now, the computer does not boot. The power supply, fans and lights all work, but the screen stays empty. Not even the HP-startup screen with boot options appears.
After removing the PCI WLAN-card everything works perfectly. When installing it again: nothing!
How do I install a WLAN-card and revive my computer?

I have the same question: suddenly my HP notebook (Win 7) will not boot up unless I turn off the WLAN.

  • Satellite C850-108 - WLan card driver for Win 7

I have a Toshiba Satellite C850-108 and recently it just completely crashed.
Being stupid i never got chance to create a recovery disc etc for it.
I have a friend that sent me a disc to help reinstall windows 7.
However when i did this i lost all drivers and had to completely reinstall them as Iv been finding out which ones i need.
One big problem i have had is that when i install the driver for network controller it just refuses to install saying there is no network driver detected.
I have tried going to devices and yellow exclamation etc but still doesnt find anything.
I have download numerous drivers from Toshiba to try correct this but still have the same problem. I can only connect to the internet via an Ethernet.
It is as if I do not even have a Wirless card.
Im very puzzled and frustrated with this if anyone can help i would very much appreciate this.
P.s i installed using 32bit but when i check my serial number it states that it is 64 bit. Could this be part if the cause?.

    Hi
As Im not mistaken the Satellite C850-108 supports the Realtek RTL8188CE WLan card.
So you need to install the Realtek WLan driver for the RTL8188CE chip.
You should be able to download the driver directly from Realtek page:
    [Realtek Drivers & Utilities|http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=48&Level= 5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false]
