Brother DCP 8045DN scanning locks out computer

I have the above machine in my local network (Ethernet) and it has an intermittent scanning problem. All computers access it directly through the build in network card in the brother. All is over Cat 5 cables.
I have this problem on two computers. A MBP and a PWB G4.
The problem is that after I install all the software new it will maybe scan in BW but not in colour.
If I try colour I get error message:
- An unexpected error occurred.
Please restart your computer and try again.
(CC028) -
I have installed the latest firmware in the Brother, using the latest drivers from the Brother site.
I have tried everything, installing over the old software, installing only scan drivers, installing all drivers (print and scan/twain), removing all Brother files and than installing etc. No difference.
I use the Brother ControlCenter to do the scanning. At this point I have only tried to scan to PDF (this is what we need most of the time, no OCR needed)
I have had real good (supper) support from the ‘Mac Man’ at Brother but he too is unable to suggest what it could be. This is after we tried many things over the last 8 weeks.
Any suggestions as to how to solve it? It is simply a pain to have to remove and install the software almost daily with no guarantee that it functions after a new install.
BTW I do not have any printing problems and all functions can be accessed.

1) What happens if you connect to this all-in-one
directly with USB, not ethernet?
Works fine
2) Can you scan color as JPG output, instead of PDF.
No does not work
Does this still crash?
No I get error message, about the file not being able to be opened by the application or that it is corrupted. tried several different programs same result.
3) Have you checked the site for new downloads?
http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/macosxstate.htm
or in the US:
http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/macosxstate-us.htm
Both
4) Have you considered returning the device?
Nope have talked extensively to the Apple Brother expert, he did not think it was hardware related.
5) I don't see that model on the list at brother.com.
(us or uk) Has it been obsoleted?
Nope still available in EU.
6) Have you asked in the Printing/Fax section of the
Apple Discussions?
Yes no answer in the Printing/Fax section that is why I posted here
Thanks Rick,
You got me experimenting with your questions in corners of the scanning universe I did not go before. And although many things do not work got it to work having it scan in BMP (Windows Bitmap) and spooling it to Apple preview. Not ideal, but perfectly workable.
Still it would be nice to be able to use the other functions too.
Thanks for your help!

  • Help! Locked out of my work computer?!

    Hello,
I work for myself from home, and I am locked out of my 2010 Macbook Air. I do not remember the password, I also do not have the original installation cds that came with it. All that it says when it turn it on is my name, with a place to type the password, and "cancel" at the bottom, that's it. As for the operating system, I belive it is Mavericks. Can somone please help me log back into my computer?

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

I spilled water on my laptop and my "i", "j" and "k" letters don't work on my laptop. However my main problem is that my password contains an "i" so i am locked out of my computer. Any ideas how I can get around the password and login. I tried the method where you go into single user mode and type in commands, however that method uses some of the letters that are not working on my laptop.

You didn't mention which version of OS X your running but there are password reset utilities provided OS X: Changing or resetting an account password (Snow Leopard and earlier) - Apple Support  or  OS X: Changing or resetting an account password - Apple Support
Alternately you can use an external keyboard to log in and change the password. Make a backup if you don't have one, it's likely that your problems aren't over. If that water continues to migrate downward and fries the logic board your macbook will be toast.

Otherwise*, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.

My husband changed the Apple ID on our computer.  For some reason, iCloud has the old Apple ID and it won't let me change it.  I've been locked out of my iPad twice and had to restore it because of iCloud.  How do I change the Apple ID (not the password)?

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • I upgraded my macbookpro hard drive to 1 TB then migrated my files from time machine. I'm now locked out of the computer because the password is not the same as my usual one and one that was years old and not retreivable. How do I work around this?

I upgraded my macbookpro hard drive to 1 TB then migrated my files from time machine. I'm now locked out of the computer because the password is not the same as my usual one and one that was years old and not retreivable. How do I work around this?

Whether or not you are able to recover the data off the drive yourself will depend on if the drive suffered any impact damage in the crash. You can buy USB SATA or IDE adapters (Intel and almost all G5 use SATA) that will let you connect your hard drive to a computer (like a flash drive) to see if you can recover the data. If the drive has suffered physical damage if may not mount.
If you know someone who has one of these adapters you could try using theirs, otherwise you could buy one but you take the risk of the data on the drive being non recoverable. Regardless, both are much cheaper than $1699!
(Alternatively, if you know of someone with a Mac Pro or PowerMac G5 they may be able to install the drive in their machine and try to boot from or mount it and copy the data off.)

  • HT1414 I never synched my iPad to a computer, and I forgot my passcode and am now locked out.  I read that I need to do a restore, but will lose all my files.  Is there any way to get into my iPad but NOT lose my photos and files?

I forget my passcode, and got locked out of my iPad.  I never synched, so my files aren't backed up.  I read that I need to restore, but will lose everything.  Is there any other way to not lose my photos and files on my computer?

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad/iPod into Recovery Mode

  • Cannot print with my Brother DCP-7055 (copies and scans are working)

Since I updated my system I am not able to print something with my Mac on the Brother DCP-7055.
When I want to print something it shows on the printer that it is submitting the data but nothing happen. From this moment the printer is like "blocked" and all the new task are in the waiting list.
I tried everything, delete the printer and reinstall it, reinstall the driver and everything.
It is not a problem of the printer I think, because I can do copies and as well I can do a scan (connected with my Mac as well).
    I need help!
    Thanks in advance.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select

              View ▹ Show Log List

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
