Brother DCP-J315W doesn't work

Hello everyone. I like Archlinux a lot, I just have a problem with my printer, Brother DCP-J315w.
It is working on linux, Brother shares packages in .deb and .rpm for it, it worked for me on Linux Mint earlier.
Now, on archlinux I have downloaded and installed AUR package for that printer from http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49576 .
With that AUR pkg i have add the printer through CUPS (localhost:631), but when I try to print anything, cups responds: Unable to find printer.
I am connecting to my printer via wifi.
Any clues?
Best Regards,
Szad

This page helped me get my Brother printer working.  Maybe you will find what you need there.  Check that you have the avahi daemon running.

  • How do I enable printing from my ipad 2, it doesn't see my wireless Brother DCP J315W printer. can anybody help?

I need to print from my Brother DCP J315W wireless printer. I don't really understand this Air Print concept and have not heard of it before, is it only on certain printers? This printer is new and I would like to be able to link it up with my IPAD 2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AirPrint is only possible on some HP printers at the moment (the models are listed on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356). There are apps that allow you to print to other printers (I havn't got any of them but I've seen apps such as Print n Share and Print Central mentioned), which can print via your pc/mac

  • [solved] printer - brother DCP-J315W - "sending data to printer"

    Hi All,
My sister have a printer brother DCP-J315W, connected with  usb.
I installed the brother-dcpj315w package from AUR, and it used to work without issue.
But I was informed "recently" that this printer is not working correctly since perhaps two months. (perhaps it's related to the AUR package update, but I think it's was already not working before the update.)
When I try to print, there is no activity on the printer, and, using the cups web-interface, I can see, for the printer status: "idle - sending data to printer"
I'm not sure about what I see in the logs, there are some failure about systemd and avahi service, when I try to print, perhaps it's the issue, but I really don't know.
journaltct -f - when I try to print a test page.
/var/logs/cups/error.log - for this day, with a debug log level, and when I added this printer and print a test page.
It tried to not use the usblp kernel module without success, the printer is not recognized by cups without this module loaded.
So, I'm quite lost with this issue.

    Hi again,
Issue solved, I had to execute this commande after the package installation:
    /opt/brother/Printers/dcpj315w/cupswrapper/cupswrapperdcpj315w
I contacted the package owner so he can update his package.

  • HT4356 how to configure airprinter for printer brother dcp-j315w

i want to configure airprinter for Printer Brother DCP-J315W. how to do it??

You can't, that is not an Airprint compatible model. See if Brother has an app you can use to print.

  • Problem with Brother DCP-J315W configuration

I just bought new printer, Brother DCP-J315W, but it seems, that there is no arch/aur package with drivers to this machine. I downloaded deb packages from brother's site, and converted them to tar.gz, then copied the files from this archives to my directory tree. CUPS finds my printer with web interface but all the jobs print "Unable to locate printer 'BRW0022585243C3" error.

IIRC you need to run a couple of those Brother scripts as root before CUPS will register the driver correctly. I think the scripts in the cupswrapper and lpd directories need to be be run first. Then resetup CUPS as usual.

  • Wifi printer  (Brother DCP-J315W) not working after Yosemite 10.10.1

We have a wifi printer with an ethernet cable to a Technicolor TG582n router.  My husband's pc (Win 7) is able to print wirelessly.  I was able to print from my Mac (OS X 10.10.1), although sometimes I had to turn the printer off and on again.  I was trying to fix this problem when I deleted the printer but when I went to add it again, it was not offered.  I have updated the driver software.  I have tried using the printer's IP address with both IP Protocol and LPD but I get the message "Unable to verify the printer on your network.  Unable to connect to "xxxxxxxxx.o64" due to an error.  Would you still like to create the printer?"
Have tried turning it all off and on but to no avail.  On the Printers and Scanners window, the Default printer is Last Printer Used, and I cannot change this.
    Going slowly doolally!

    Try resetting the printing system.
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.

  • Brother DCP-150C - Scanner not working

    Hi!
I am trying to make my scanner scan but it just doesnt work...It isn't found.
    This is what i did:
    - Downloaded these files:
    brscan-skey-0.2.1-1.i386.rpm
    brscan2-0.2.4-0.i386.rpm
    dcp150ccupswrapper-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm
    dcp150clpr-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm
    (Which is scanner and printer-drivers)
    - Extracted them with rpmextract so i got a subfolder "usr" which i copied to /
Now: Printer is working flawlessly, only the scanner makes problems.
    Here's the output of sane-find-scanner:
    sane-find-scanner
    found USB scanner (vendor=0x04f9, product=0x01cf) at libusb:002:002
    but:

check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
    (as root)
I have tried to use the brother-program "brsaneconfig2" by adding my Scanner to it, but it didnt have any use.

  • Problems with Wireless Brother DCP-J315W printer

First thing this morning, my printer was showing as 'Offline' - but it wasn't.
I uninstalled the drivers and then tried to reinstall from the excellent Brother website but I get an error message that something is blocking communications between my (desktop XP) PC and the printer.
The first possible villain is my NIS and I'm checking that out.
Next on Brother's diagnostic "check-list" is my router - I have a BT Hub 3.0. I have to check to see if
    (1) it has Multiple SSID enabled
    (2) it has a Privacy Separator enabled and
    (3) it has MAC address filtering.
I've spent hours going through Hub Manager and can't find anything about these three aspects. Are they in fact in Hub 3.0?
PS I should really start a new thread but is it worth upgrading to the latest hub?

Hi, I have the same printer and this happened once on mine.
I fixed it by powering down the printer, restarting it and redoing the network connection on the printer, and if I remember right deleting the printer from the PC then re-adding it.
Re your question on replacing the router, my advice would be definitely don't waste your money on any version of the HomeHub, they are rubbish. (Just read the thread titles one by one on this section of the forum!)
If you want a newer router, buy a third party one.
But, honestly, use that money to get off Windows XP instead!

  • [solved] Brother DCP-110C and CUPS 1.2.x

    Hi,
my girlfriend's multifunction printer/scanner-combo from Brother doesn't work. There are drivers (cupswrapper) directly from Brother, but they don't work. There are no error messages in the logfile of cups and the Brother-Logfile.
CUPS detect the printer correct and show it in the webinterface, but printing a test page doesn't work. I have installed the driver with the instructions from their page. I have edit the files to need the directory structure of ArchLinux (/etc/rc.d/ instead /etc/init.d/), but nothing happens. CUPS find the driver and all, but the printer won't print. Can it be, that the drivers from Brother don't work anymore with CUPS 1.2.x, because their driver are written for CUPS 1.1.
    Any suggestions??
    Daniel
edit: The suggestion from Brother's FAQ, doesn't work.

After some hard fights the multifunction printer/scanner-combo works...
There was several steps necessary to get this device working. First of all, you will need cups and lpd (lprng-package). Both packages conflicts with each others, I know, but the device won't work with only one of them. So I first installed cups and force lprng to install over the files from cups. Very very ugly, I know.
You will need the cupswrapper and the lpd-driver from Brother.
Also the SANE driver from Brother is necessary to scan with the scanner.
After installation of the three drivers from Brother, you must edit the cupswrapper script because there are /etc/init.d in the files. Change these to /etc/rc.d
Cups will find the printer on his own, if the driver is correctly installed. Sane finds the scanner after executing the br2scan (program from Brother) installation steps.
If there are any questions about these device. Feel free to ask me, I think after several days looking through logfiles etc. I can answer all questions....
    Daniel
PS: I will search further for a solution for the very ugly pacman -Sfd lprng.....

  • Brother DCP-120C does not print

I am having issues with my Brother DCP-120C. It worked well a while, but now i encounter some problems.
When starting the cups daemon i get this error message in my error.log:
E [13/Jan/2010:19:11:25 +0100] Unable to set ACLs on root certificate "/var/run/cups/certs/0" - Operation not supported
I installed the brother-mfc210c-fixed-version package beforehand.
    Any ideas?
Last edited by Alp (2010-01-14 08:10:49)

    Additional information:
The cups daemon starts anyway, even with the error message. In the cups web frontend i see my installed printer (MFC210). If i print a testpage or something else, a print job is created but never executed. Cups seems to wait endlessly until something happens.

  • Need help to get my Brother DCP-J125 printer working again

I'm totally stuck here. I had this printer working and now after a few months it doesn't work anymore.
I tried it with/without usblp. Tried it by installing the drivers myself and by installing the drivers with brother-dcpj125 from AUR (and I did run the script that comes with the drivers). Readded printer several times, reinstalled cups several times. The printer doesn't print. I think cups doesn't find the printer... (The scanner works btw)

    Hi Zydo58,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact network configuration you are currently using with your iMac and your two printers. For more general printer troubleshooting, you may find the steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • I just upgraded to a new iMac running OS X 10.8.2 and can't scan from by Brother MHC 7820N.  Printer works.  I reinstalled the scanner driver but when I try to scan, the scanner doesn't connect to the imac.  Image Capture says no scanner connected.

I just upgraded to a new imac running OS X 10.8.2 and am having trouble scanning from my Brother MHC 7820N.  Printer works fine but the scanner won't connect to the imac.  I reinstalled the scanner driver from Brother.com but no luck.  When I go to Image Capture, it says no scanner connected.  Any suggestions?

You might try a third party scanner software. Printer manufacturers are terrible about keeping their products updated. I'd recommend VueScan, you can get a trial version here and if it works and you like it you can purchase it.

  • "Print page" doesn't work as intended when using lengthy tables. (Brother MFC 6490CW, possibly others)

I had originally thought this was a printing driver problem, but further testing indicated that this was not a problem in Internet Explorer and it was a problem in Firefox.
When printing some web pages using Mozilla Firefox, particularly those having sizable tables which would extend beyond the length of a single printed page, the remainder of the table is not printed even though the remainder of the web page itself is printed. The behavior is also noted when using Print Preview. See, for example, this web page which I created: http://alltherightwaystowrite.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-basics-capitalization.html
I inquired of other bloggers to see if they were also experiencing this issue. See, for example, the discussion I began here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/blogger/EpD6K2ezIZE/a5mPu8CV0HwJ
As you can see, the only response I received indicated it was not an issue for that person with a different printer. This leads me to believe the problem is with either the MFC6490CW printer (unlikely) or the MFC6490CW printer driver (more likely) or perhaps with Firefox, or some combination of those three. This problem is duplicatable by me on successive attempts to print with any web page with a table extending beyond the length of a single page of printed paper. The output error occurs whether printing in portrait or landscape mode.
Saving a web page as "Web Page Complete" and opening up the web page in Microsoft Word created a variety of formatting errors, but otherwise, the entire contents of the page would have printed. Of course, this is not an ideal solution in any event. The entire document should print seamlessly across multiple pages without losing any data or content in the process.
As indicated above, as an additional test, I attempted to print the same web page in Internet Explorer and did not note the output errors described here. The web page printed correctly under those conditions. As a result, I believe that the most likely culprit is Firefox since Internet Explorer was also a good test case for my printer and printer driver, and it passed that test case.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521204 - this is a META Bug which is tracking all the Bugs which are related to '''Wrong page splitting / Missing page content when printing''' - 34 different Bugs, 14 of which are marked as solved.
IMO, that page would be better served with a print css script ''(as jscher2000 mentioned earlier)'' to make that a "printer ready" page, if wanting that page to be "printable" is your intention. As it now is that page is shrunk by about 50% with the "Shrink to Fit" feature engaged. Look at that page in Print Preview when the Scale is set to 100% instead of Shrink to Fit, and see that the page is so large that it shows that about 1/2 the width. Then decrease the zoom level in Print Preview to 50 or 60% to get that page to fit horizontally with the "Shrink to Fit" feature disabled. Looks like a case of "garbage in - garbage out".
I think the css used for that page uses too large a font which ''(IMO)'' forces Firefox to shrink the font too much to make that page fit to a letter size sheet of paper. And relying first upon the Print to Fit feature in the four different major browser engines ''(Gecko, Trident, WebKit, and Presto)'' and then the hundreds of print drivers out there is just looking for failures such as you are seeing; it works for some viewers and doesn't work for other viewers. What appears on the '''"screen"''' doesn't always translate to the '''"printed page'''" too well without proper instructions via style sheets, especially since "screens" are oriented horizontally and most "printed" pages are vertically oriented unless the user shifts to the Portrait view.
