Brother HL-4070CDW will not set up to print on my network

It would appear that the printer drivers for Brother HL-4070CDW color laser are not installing. Either that, or the computer is failing to acknowledge they're there. I followed the instructions to install drivers from the Brother CD and then also installed the "optional installs" from the Leopard 10.5.1 original disc. I then attempted the Apple Hardware Test, both with the Leopard install disc in and then without it. I had all the peripherals, included my Airport Express, disconnected, but it would not bring up the test at "restart."
No devices appear in "Available Wireless Devices" in BRADmin for Mac (think that's a Brother deal). Also, in "About this Mac," the printers list is empty, and I'm unable to find any when I click the "+" button to set up in System Preferences. Hard drive library reveals Brother printer files, but nothing that looks like a driver. Address of the Brother print server is 192.0.0.192.
I'm pretty well stumped for where to go next. I have tried to install printer with USB cable (that seemed most straightforward) and as wireless setup. The only way it will print is directly from the printer. It has printed a test page and a jpg file from my thumb drive.
Any ideas/suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Guess I don't understand where to find the Express IP address vs the computer's IP address. The Express is connected (or I wouldn't be able to access the internet via the network).
In OS 10.4.x you'd go to System Preferences > Network > show Airport > TCP/IP tab. I believe Leopard is similar, and you should get something close to the pretty picture I posted above. The reason for wanting to know is that I'm curious about the IP addresses your Cradlepoint is issuing.
My "Ad-hoc" note was on page 44, but I was interpreting the instructions to mean that statement only belonged with the second option, "Installation using a wireless computer" not the first option about temporarily using a network cable. So, no, I have not tried an "ad hoc" network (but I did figure out basically what one is).
I understand that option, it just seems that if you want to use a printer wirelessly, you're best off configuring it wirelessly. In my mind doing so eliminates any question about the wireless setup.
More importantly, the manual I downloaded specifies only three possible configuration options for a wireless network: Secure Easy Setup (whatever that is - I've never heard of it), a temporary Ethernet cable connected to your router, and the ad-hoc wireless network. When you used the network cable for configuration, was it attached to your Cradlepoint or your computer? The instructions say it has to be connected to your router which makes sense to me. Any connection directly from your computer not only obviates the need for a network printer, it isn't consistent with their instructions so I don't want to do that.
The Network User's Guide I downloaded is here: http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Network%20Users%20Manual/NUMHL_4040CDN_4040CN_4070CDW_EN1291.PDF
Are you game to keep working this problem
I have no choice. It's affliction for which there is no cure

  • HP Solution Center Software ungrad to Windows 7, will not set up the printer in software

After upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7.  This was a clean reinstall of Windows Vista and then the upgrade was in stalled.  I downloaded the new version of the HP Solution Center full and set it up in my computer.
The printer is HP Officejet Pro L7580 and I have set up the print in my control panel as wireless connection and my wireless software for has been upgraded for Windows 7 and the printer is properly connected and printing.
However when I try to set up my printer in the HP Solution Software it will not set up as a wireless connection for my computer.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

  • Will not set up testing server

I have done this in the past many times. Recently DW 8 will

    This is driving me crazy.

    > Testing server folder points to a folder.
    > URL is
    http://localhost
Actually, the path to the testing server would usually be
    like -
    c:\inetpub\wwwroot
And usually, you would want your testing server to point to a
    FOLDER within
    the webserver's root, e.g.,
    c:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder
Use a different folder for each site so that you don't get
    all your site's
files jumbled up in the webserver's root folder.
Then you would want to specify a URL prefix for your site of
    http://localhost/folder
    So -
    Server Model: ASP VBScript
    Access: Local/Network
    Testing server folder: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder
    URL Prefix:
    http://localhost/folder
Is that how you have it?

  • Firefox will not set as my default browser? My desktop icon only allows me to open Firefox as an administrator? My family's Firefox accounts work fine. I have 3 other accounts have parental controls. Would that have an effect? in English

    * Firefox will not set as my default browser, regardless of setting the option?
    * My desktop icon only allows me to open Firefox as an administrator, while my family's Firefox icons are accessible?
    * The 3 other accounts have parental controls and was wondering if that would have an effect?

OK, I think I have this solved. After reading my post over, I decided to rethink the problem. First thing I did was download Chrome and I tried using that and IE again and surprise! I was having the same problem on those browsers as well. So now we know it wasn't Firefox. I then figured maybe a slow computer meant a virus, so I ran scans. I've had both Avast and IOBit for months now and I've never had a problem with either of them before. Then I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a third scan. They all picked some stuff up, but nothing serious. Then I tried disabling all the antivirus stuff and that didn't solve anything. But then I decided to keep Malwarebytes and I uninstalled IOBit Security and whammo - problem solved.
I have no idea why out of the blue IOBit would be causing a problem like this so if someone knows, please let me in on the secret. Additionally, IE was working fairly well last night but not this morning. I also don't know why removing IOBit would take care of the nsAppShell issue, because supposedly, that's related to Firefox plug ins. And one more thing...when Comcast hooked my neighbor up to cable, they did it by putting a splitter on my line. They were messing about with the lines yesterday before I got on my computer last night trying to decide how to rerun them and today they did that, taking the splitter off my line and giving my neighbor his own line. That was finished about 30 minutes before I uninstalled IOBit. So....who knows?
But I ain't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. I have my Firefox back and I am so sorry for bad mouthing you last night - I love you, Firefox!

My desktop wallpaper will not set... actually it sets or flashes to my choice I make and quickly reverts back to default.
Any clues as to how I can fix it?

Preference files are where your personal settings are stored. Every preference you set in every application and pref pane is written to one of these .plist files. Sometimes these files get corrupted. I'm not sure why. But my experience with OS X since 2002 tells me to check there first when something starts acting wonky.

I have to disagree with BGreg about downloading the driver from HP.com. I would recommend using Apple's instructions in
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
specifically the section on How to Add a Printer then check for the section on Wi-Fi printers.

  • Certain Windows updates will not download on any PC on our network

    Hi,
We've had a problem that seemed to develop a couple of months ago in that certain Windows updates will not download to any PC on our network, most notably IE11 and .NET 3.5.1 updates. Most others will download and install with no problem at all.
I have tried running the Windows Update Fixit, I have tried deleting the /Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder, I have tried the System Update Readiness Tool, I have added the various Windows Update server URLs to our firewall whitelist, I have
tried a clean boot, but to no avail. Downloading and installing the affected KB patches manually works fine though.
When I connect any of our PCs directly to an external router the updates download and install fine. It's only when connected to our network (which comprises a Peplink WAN load balancer, Cyberoam CR25iNG security device, Windows 2003 domain controller
& Arista 10Gig switch) that the problem exists.
Most updates download successfully but others only get to a certain percentage downloaded, most commonly 45%, although I'm not sure if that's a meaningful figure.
For example, the most recent batch of updates all download and install fine except for KB2982378, KB2894844, KB2972211 & KB2973112. Is there something those updates have in common that something on our network could be blocking?
I'm really unsure where to try looking next, so if anyone has any suggestions they would be very welcome please.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi  Matt,
When you connect  to an external router directly, does your network location change to private or still domain network?
I suspect this is related to some firewall setting, even related to your network security device.
Please check or upload the WindowsUpdate.log ( %windir%\Windowsupdate.log), we can find some information about downloading phase.

  • TS1398 Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.2 my phone will not auto-connect to the home WiFi network.

I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.0.2 and now my phone will not auto-connect to the home wifi network.  Each time I leave and return to within range of the network I have to remember to manually connect, otherwise it continues to use 4G for data.  The credentials are saved (all I have to do is tap it to connect) but just won't happen automatically any more.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Tried the reset multiple times. No go. Before the IOS 7.0,2 update my devices were connecting to home WIFI eventually.

  • Windows 7 64 bit OS will not install any HP print drivers

My HP Pavilion p7-1297cb pc which is running windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS will not install any HP print drivers. All my windows updates are current, HP print and scan doctor did not fix it, I also tried MS fix it manager and did not work.  When I try to use my HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus installation CD or HP's download center, software almost installs, but says print drivers will not install.  Also, I tried using USB connection and windows tries to install software, but does not work.  Same for HP print driver support.   I tried installing 3 different HP printers I had and all had the same issue. Any ideas on why my system will not allow any print drivers to install?

    Hi rrfhp,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand none of the HP drivers will fully install.
I will be happy to help you.
Are you signed in as the Administrator of the computer?
I would turn off all start up programs to make sure there isn't something blocking the printer.
Click on start, in the search box type in run, enter, then type in msconfig, click OK.
    Click the Services tab.
Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
Click Disable All, and then click OK.
Then click on the start up tab at the top.
    Click on disable all.
    Reboot the computer.
Temporarily turn off any Antivirus software.
Then run the installation again by right clicking on the setup and selecting run as Admininstrator.
Don't connect the USB cable until prompted.
    Try printing now.
Then go back into msconfig and enable the All Microsoft Services and enable all on the start up tab.
Turn the Antivirus software back on again.
Please let me know the results if you are still having issues.
Are you getting any error messages?

  • Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 both will not allow me to print from them

Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 both will not allow me to print from them. InDesign will, but illustrator keeps popping up with "can't print the illustration." i have read other forums and i understand outlining typefaces, and spot colors but, it still will not allow me to print. Even if i open a completely new file and just try to print a black square it will not allow it. the problem might have started with an emailed EPS file? but im not 100 percent sure. i have disconnected and re connected the printer but the problem just seems as if all Illustrator, and Photoshop files will not print from the program and the connection with the printer is non existent (even though it says it is). please help!

    Reset your illustrator prefs
Hold fingers over Shift Alt CTLR (PC) or Shift Opt Command (Mac)
    Boot Illustrator
Immediately after booting depress the 3 keys as fast as you can.

Time Warner recently installed an Arris mode,/router and now I cannot print wirelessly to my HP printer from my iphone, ipad or macbook pro.  I could do this when I used a Belkin modem with the Arris router.  Any suggestions?

Something you might check is the Bonjour service in the router.  If the router doesn't support Bonjour services, you will not be able to use it to print from any apple device via AirPrint.  You can still print from a Mac PC if the drivers are installed, but you will not be able to print from any iOS device.  You can use the app below to test the network to see if it will alow Bonjour services.  Let me know what you find.
