Browse by Release Date

Hello.
I've always experienced a very frustrating problem when browsing apps by Release Date on my iPad. Steps are as follows:
1. Browse apps by release date.
2. Scroll through several pages, then touch an app to view details.
3. Touch the 'back' arrow to go back up a level to browsing.
4. Instead of showing the page you were on, it resets to the first page of apps.
It doesn't ALWAYS do this but it does it enough to be REALLY frustrating. Is there any way to make this stop?
Thanks,
ALF

  • Why can't I browse by release date in the Albums view?

I listen to Vocaloid music, specifically Megurine Luka. When I want to check for new releases, I do a search for Megurine Luka. I then click on Albums to see a complete list of every album in which she has at least one song. That works great, but I can't refine the search by release date. I just get a seemingly random list of albums. So, to check for new releases, I have to go through all of them, looking at the release dates. Sometimes the new releases are at the bottom, sometimes in the middle, sometimes near the top. If I had the option to view by release date, it would make that much easier. Is there a way to do this, and I'm just not seeing it?

    Hi dddnlb!
"Why can't I post a new topic in the Leopard discussions."
The info posted below is also available in the Announcement How to Post a New Topic
If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the sixteen divisions.
For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Leopard.
Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
But some may have only one, two, or three.
For example, the Safari Category page, has three choices listed under Forum / Category:
    Safari For Windows
    Safari for Mac Support forum
    Safari 4 (Beta).
And the Apple Remote Desktop Category, has only one Apple Remote Desktop Forum.
From a Category page, select an appropriate Forum to post in.
On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
More info here How Is Discussions Content Organized?.
Edit: I have requested that a Host, relocate your Topic to a more appropriate Forum.
As it will be transferred, it is not necessary for you to repost elsewhere, at this time.

  • How do you browse the catalog by release date? I would like to see all the new releases in specific catagories but it seems that feature went away. Or can you browse the whole catalog by release date?

It appears that you can not browse the catalog by release date or see all the new additions to the catalog.

    Hi zrxix,
Happy New Year! In the iBooks application on your Mac, if you pick a category, like "Best of 2014" or "Best New Fiction" then click on the "See All" link on the right side of the page, you can choose to sort by name, release date, or featured.

How can I see which books are on the New York Times bestseller lists? (United States only)

What's the typical file size for books from the iBooks Store?
The typical book is about 2 MB. Books that contain enhanced features, such as audio or video, vary in size depending on the content. Enhanced books might take longer to download or require a Wi-Fi connection to purchase.
The iBooks Store also offers textbooks that might be as large as 1 to 2 GB in file size. You might need a Wi-Fi connection to download them from an iOS device. Download times for textbooks vary depending on your Internet connection.

  • Sort by Release Date option?

I don't know why an option to sort by "release date" is absent from iTunes. It seems like an obvious way to layout/view music. There isn't even an option to enter the "Release Date"(only "Year") on music files.
I use the pattern "Year/Month/Date - Album Name" with in the "Album Sort Order" field to help iTunes sort my Albums by release date. But, within the "Grid View", it doesn't seem to be possible to sort by "album"(which would use the "sort album" field) to see all the albums by release date.
It just seems like such a basic thing to be added to such a music application.
It seem like there are a lot of these "little" details which iTunes never seems to add. For example: the ability for iTunes to read and write multiple Genres(& subgenre) entries with in a MP3 IDtag.
I just don't understand how the devs can neglect such options, which would be valuable for anyone who likes to keep there music properly labelled.
I wish they would forget silly ideas like PING, and concentrate on trying to make iTunes a deep music browser and management tool, like it should be.
That's the end of my rant.

I was talking about "Grid View". I cannot sort my albums by release date within "Grid View".
But yes, you are correct. Although, in my experience, the issue with using the "Release Date" field is that iTunes seems unable to read some dates correctly.
For example; I have Bob Dylans album "Times They Are A Changin'", and if I enter the release date(using a 3rd party program because you can't edit the "ReleaseTime" field in iTunes), using the correct format, "1964-01-13" iTunes displays this as "Thu 01/01/70". I know this is the correct format because I can enter a newer date and it will display correctly.
So it seems iTunes doesn't recognise anything before that date.

  • Sort by release date is not possible in itunes 9

    hello,
in itunes 9 there is no release-date-column in the results-table available after using the itunes search, is there a solution at the planning stage?
it was very useful and now only available when using the columns-browser, but it´s not helpful, if you´re searching a song without knowing the artist...
    thanks for answering me.

Sorry, but, as this is a user to user forum, no one here would know what Apple is planning.

  • WCC 11.1.1.6.0 Wrong release date for new item

    Hi All
When I try to check in item from contribution folder I always get release date 8/2/12 3:24 PM
Browse Content -> Folders -> MyFolder ->Add -> New Content Item.
I get right release date when I check in item from New Check In or DIS or from outlook.
from sql query: dCreateDate is right but dInDate is wrong
    Please help
    Thanks

Probably running into folder inheritance. This is as designed. You can suppress certain fields from inheriting by updating one of the .hda files in the folders component (or overriding that table in a custom component). I don't have the info off the top of my head but it's in the docs.
FYI, I'd be very cautious of doing any direct-db edits & dCreateDate isn't really a field that's used outside the black-box of the content server.
Is there a reason your folder has a Release Date?

  • ITunes 9 Store - Sort by Release Date

I cannot get this function on iTunes 9... I usually go to top songs and then sort it by release date (to know which songs are newest). Does this functionality exist in iTunes 9 store?

    Vibelicious, here's what I stated:
"I have seen this exact problem before. I live, repeat LIVE, in the "view ALL music release section" for browsing and buying my music, and have had to speak up about it when it has disappeared in the past.
From past experience, what I believe has happened here is that the programmers made some changes to the store while not intending to affect the view all music area, then tested most of the store apps after the changes, then just happened to overlook that this particular area of the store in question "disappeared" (because of a glitch in the new programming).
This is possibly the third time I have seen this specific type of problem occurrence happen over the last several years. The programmers have gone back in each time and fixed the problem after customers brought the problem to their attention. I will follow up with an email to the store peeps to bring it to their attention again because they are probably currently unaware of the problem. I encourage other concerned customers to do the same. Currently, this function has not worked for maybe a few days now."
Update: I did email customer service, and they did respond as always. I started by describing what I had basically noticed and theorized about above, then I asked only one simple question: Is it a glitch, and if so, will the programmers fix it? My question was not answered to make a long story short.
From my previous encounters, sometimes it's just hit and miss getting the specific answer to the question(s) posed to store service reps (even though they will always respond to emails). It's just a roll of the dice who responds. Some are very good at giving specific answers to specific questions, while others are just the opposite. I struck out this time, but do not give up just yet. You could have better luck, so please give it a shot yourself and let us know what they said back here either good or bad.

  • Search by release date AppStore

Please allow us to search categories by release date. We used to be able to and now we can't.  I use this function all the time to keep track of releases and new apps.  I can't find what I need any other way.  If others find this frustrating too please post here!

I made the same complaint at an Apple Store and they said it was dumb to remove it.  I cannot understand why they would remove that ability???  was nobody using it or do they not want us to be able to scroll through all the apps???  makes no sense.
I ask customer support and got this reply:

  • Release Date Redux

Apple must be changing the rules every day as far as listings and updates. That's OK, but I'd just like to know the "rules" when they do change.
For example, I just had a new app released yesterday that I submitted Sept 30th. In the listing (by release date), my app is several rows down in the list and the apps above are all updates and new versions of "old" apps and the release date is Sept 30. There is one app that is new with a release date of 10/6/08. So, I thought my app would be listed at the very top because I thought Apple changed the policies on updates.
I suspect that I did this to myself when I submitted the app and chose the release date of 9/30/08 (when I submitted it). This seems to be the date they use rather than the actual date they release it on the store. If I have to game the system, from now on I will change the release date to a week ahead of my submission, so my new apps don't get shoved down the list on their very first day.
I think NEW apps should always be placed at the top of the list, above updates, and the "release" date should be based on when the app is actually released to the App Store. And updates, should fall back to their original release dates after a day or two.

This problem is not insurmountable either. A developer could, for example, upload the new app as a "major upgrade", and Apple could then reject it as major with the option to accept it immediately as a minor uprgade if the developer agreed. If the developer didn't claim it wasn't major than nothing would change. If the developer disagreed with apple, they could resubmit as a new app, perhaps with expedited processing based on the prior acceptance of the app itself and the rejection based only on the categorization of the changes. Of course if Apple felt that the changes were to minor to get a bumped position in the listings, it is not clear that they would accept it as a new app anyway, even under the current dysfunctional system. Then again the profusion of stupid "Days To X" apps (offense to developer intended) shows that they are not particularly consistent in their control of utility or redundancy, so imputing rational motives connected to their decisions is a bit of wishful thinking.
Nonetheless, their present model is deeply flawed, and it is only a matter of time before they recognize this and change it somehow. I don't browse the first page of categories daily anymore, and i'm sure other iPhone fanboys are also losing interest, Apple will notice this in traffic and sales stats, and hopefully connect the dots...

  • IPod touch release date?

I've been given multiple release dates.  I went to Best Buy, and the iPod touch 5 8, 16, and 64 gig models were in stock, but not the 32 gig.  The site went from "pre order" to "buy now".  However, there is still no shpping date given.  I sold my iPod 4 two weeks ago and just ordered and new 32 gig, and I really don't want to wait until the end of the month.  Anybody have any knowledge of when they will be shipping?

    dronkey27 wrote:
No, I was in the store, looking at them.  They had different backs, controls on the sides, were thinner, and were 8, 16, and 64 gigs.
This page; http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch/select lists two 5th gen Touch models, 32Gb & 64GB. They are new.
This page; http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch/select_4thgene ration lists the 4th gen Touch models that are now available, the 16GB & 32GB. The 16GB is new, but still 4th gen!
...and this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 lists the previous models of 4th gen Touch. Note that until now, there was no 16GB model, but there was the 8GB one, along with 32 & 64GB
5th gen = New! 32GB & 64GB. In five different colours plus the special red one.
    4th gen = New/current! 16GB & 32GB in black or white. Note 16GB is New, but is 4th gen!
4th gen = Up until now! 8GB, 32,GB, & 64GB, in black or white. Note 8GB is discontinued.
So, no matter what you think you've seen, you were either, wrong, mis-informed or you have misunderstood.
In the past, far too many people have made the same mistake with the 8GB, 2nd generation Touch, believing it was a 3rd gen. It wasn't!
You are simply repeating this tosh.

  • Featured by release date gone?

I like the iOS 6 new App Store design. But am I missing something? My morning ritual doesn't work anymore: I loved to browse ALL new apps by release date. They were listed alphabetically and it it was a simple way to browse all brand-new apps.
Does anyone know a workaround for this? Is there a search term that would list ALL apps? Only in search I can still choose the release date filter.
Thanks in advance for any ideas! I am using a new iPad, BTW.

Unfortunately, the Release Date field only works in movies and podcasts. This is one of my biggest pet peeves about iTunes. Often artists release more than one thing in the course of a year, and I'm certainly not the only person in the world who wants to sort those releases in true chronological order.
I've found that I can work around this by entering the date into the Grouping field as (year).(month).(day) with leading zeros (i.e. 2007.08.02), then sorting by grouping.

  • Help with Release Date issue

I'm trying to organize my albums by release date, however the "release date" field is not editable, nor is there a release date field within the "Get Info" window (just a "Year" field). How can I go about sorting by album release date?

If you have albums that were released on the same day, such that you have identical Sort Album fields for different Album fields, this will lead to unpredictable behavior when sorting on iPods and in the Browser — the albums may get mixed together. You can avoid this by appending a letter or other meaningless code to the end of the date to distinguish them.

  • ITunes podcasts "release date" say it's 2008, not 2009. Help!

iTunes seems to think it's 2008, not 2009. For podcast "release dates," iTunes tells me the right month and the right day, but not the right year. This is also the case when browsing the podcast directory in the iTunes Store. I cannot remember when this problem began.
On top of this, if I right-click on the itunes menu options running horizontal across the top of the podcast library window, I can include "year" as another category in addition to the standard "release date" (which cannot be removed), however "year" does tell me 2009 for all recent downloads. If I include "date added" and/or "date modified", meanwhile, the result is the same as that given by "release date". This is a pretty bizarre realization. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe it's a problem with the latest iTunes release? My OS X clock is perfectly okay, no problems there. Help please!

If you get incorrect dates in Date Added and Date Modified, that is not the cause of individual podcasts, but iTunes' date processing.
I had a problem with date processing and it turned out it was due to my using Custom settings in the Date & Time SysPref. The system clock worked fine, but iTunes didn't, so I changed back to standard settings and iTunes was happy again.
I'm not saying yours is the same problem but it may be worth looking at your settings.

  • MSI Big Bang XPower II X79 release date

Whats the release date for this motherboard to the UNITED STATES?
MSI Big Bang XPower II X79 LGA 2011

We don't know, we have nothing to do with MSI marketing. We are MSI product users the same as you helping each other with problems and have nothing to do directly with MSI. You would need to ask MSI. Question like that my typical answer is that you will know the release date after you see it for sale in the stores.
      >> How to contact MSI <<
      http://us.msi.com/service/PreSaleForm/
As a matter of fact if we knew the release dates of products like that we would post it in the forum to avoid those kind of questions all of the time.

  • Why is it that when looking through  new apps in the  apps store on my ipad in release date mode  does it return to the first 1-12 after viewing pparticular apps?

why is it that when I look through the new apps in the apps store in release date mode it returns to the first page after veiwing more information about some apps, I could be ten to twenty pages in and have it happen.
Also, I only speak and read English and although there are probably great apps for people from other nations, I don't want to wade through all the apps that I can't make use of. I expect that people of other nationalities or languages don't want to have to wade through every app that they can't make use of, is there not a way that alI users could filter by language?
I mean no offence to anyone but with a collection of hundreds of thousands of apps in all languages and the jump back to the begining after possibly being into the list by a number of pages I stop looking after awhile and I'm sure I've missed some excellent apps by doing so.
