Browse Photos

I have iPad 1 and a PC. I use lightroom to edit photos (I have a photographic studio). At the moment I link the iPad to my HDTV via rgb cable but it will only show the photos to my customers while a slideshow is running. I'd like my customers to be able to browse through the photos on the iPad and for them to show on the tv too. I'd also like to display photos from Lightroom on the tv via Apple TV (no more cables across the studio).
Will Apple TV let me do that?

I didn't see much point in expanding on the point, you can do exactly what you want to do.

  • How to browse photos in folder

Is there a way to browse photos in a folder (without importing them all locally) that is being shared across the network? This is simple in Windows but I haven't found anything on the Mac.

Steve had a good suggestion but for some reason, his post doesn't show up. I get this error when clicking the email link:
Error: you do not have permission to view the requested forum or category.
Steve suggested using Preview to browse across the network. Yes - you are correct on this and that's what I'm doing. Problem is that you can't view multiple photos without lots of little preview windows and right clicking. I'd like something like Windows (Vista) Explorer Preview. You right click a photo, Preview and arrow through them at full size. Very nice. No importing malarky.

    Good for you.
i just wanna browse and open photos.. and forget...
Forget what? Just want to browse photos? Use the Finder with Quicklook. Use Preview use any of the 100 or image viewers that you’ll find on MacUpdate.
is it IMpossible in iPhoto and iTunes???
Well, it’s impossible in iTunes because that’s for music. (The hint is in the “Tunes” part of the name.
coz i have to import and make mediaLibrary...crazy!
Nothing crazy about it. IPhoto is not a Image Viewer. How crazy of you think it is! It’s Photo Organiser.

  • How to view/browse photos by keyword?

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and Lightroom. I am testing Lightroom 4 to see if it fits my needs.
What I can't seem to figure out is how to browse photos by keyword without creating a smart collection for every keyword. Can anyone enlighten me if this is possible?
I have used Bibble for a few years now and this is something I used alot.
    Regards
    Stian

Over on the right, in the Keyword List panel, point at a keyword and you will see an arrow on the right edge of the panel, to the right of the number of photos. Click on that arrow.
Alternatively, in the Filter Bar, select keyword as a search criterion, then click on the desired keyword (optionally ctrl-click on multiple keywords)

  • Is there any way I can browse photos on Front Row and choose the music?

    Hi!
Without creating a slideshow or anything in advance, is there any way using Front Row that I can browse my photos and either keep my iTunes music playing in the background or the music I choose in Front Row?
    Thanks

I am going to assume you are on Leopard, if so, as far as I understand it, under FR 2.0, this is not possible. This is the sole reason I have yet to upgrade to Leopard, hope you listening Apple!!! I only have one mac, a mini, that I use as a HTPC. Why this functionality was removed is like a Windows type decision, pointless and ridiculous.
I have a seen a lot of talk about being able to install the old version of FR, search the forums, for how to do that.
Under Tiger, it is totally do-able, as long as you ensure your default picture slideshow setting does not have pre-saved music.

  • Organize and browse photos Chronologically

I recently moved from PSE 5 through PSE 7 (2 months using version that came with my Epson Scanner), and then to PSE9. Now I'm coming accross some of fhe idosyncronisities of the Organizer that are discussed in other threads. I'm also seeing where many posters are saying that Folder Location View is very broken and that PSE9 is not intended to be a folder view organizer. There are so many quirks in this version I wish I wasn't so invested in PSE.
Since I like to keep my photos mainly organized by Chronological order and by event or location, I would like to hear how others out there are doing it. I'm finding that the views other than Folder View are no better, and in many ways worse. For example, There are only two ways to view the files in Thumbnail view, Olderst first and Newest First..Well, the photo are all jumbled together without a delineation on date or event. Even if I had the witherall to go through my entire collection and tag them, I don't think the display would seperate them. And the tag isn't readily readable in the display like a folder path would be. Maybe I'm wrong, so if other have accomplished this, I'd love to hear about it.
Another problem in Thumbnail View is the ways that PSE decides the order. I'm gessing here but...  If a photo was from a camera, I then it picks up the Metadata in the file, but if it was scanned in, it uses the scan date or the date the file was created. I'm in the process of scanning a huge number of slides and negatives from times past so these are classified as 'Newer' when in fact I want them to be 'Older'. I think I saw ways to alter the dates, but that means more steps in the process and I still don't get the event organization.
Even if I tagged everything (which is a big effort) I'd still need a  similar organization of the tags. It would be impossible to find things  in Explorer or say another photo browser if I were to use that to  publish my photos online say in Picasa albums.
And the import batch view is totally useless. Who really cares about that? And there seems to be othe quirks there, like the way TimeLine window works.
Well, unless I get an inspiration from some place, I'll continue to limp along with Folder View where I create the folder structure which does give me control of how the files are ordered.
    FYI: My main scheme is:
    My Pictures
      <year>
          <Year-month Event>
<Sets, if this was created from sets of slides or film.>
Also sometimes I have other Folders under this because I have a camera that creates subfolders that I maintain when I use the Panarama assist mode where I can stitch together multiple images into a panarama.
Anyway, I'd like to hear how others are dealing with these issues.
    Thanks,
    DoctorBrown

    >I'm not sure I see any benefit to a tag that says Set-01 and Set-02 as I think I will forget what these mean as the years go by. I would use a descriptive tag, such as "Cruise", "Mountains", "Anchorage" etc.
Again, I am creating my primary order to be by Year-Month and order they were taken. Captions, Tags and Albums will be used to fill in the description, location and make groupings for selected shots. Or if useful, Tags can help with this primary order.
These Sets are older rolls of film or slides (I could call it Roll-001, etc, But the slides are no longer in a roll. ) that I've scanned in and have physically labeled as such (with detailed location) and organized in the order they were taken and grouped by the trip I was on. Therefore I can know exactly where to find the slide if I want to go to it. All the rolls from a given trip are located in a folder that is labled with the trip identifier, with each roll in a subfolder. When I went on these trips I'd use like 25 rolls of film. As like many photographers, I take many more shots than I will ever present in a slide show, print, etc. I probably should delete many more than I do, but I keep them. I do plan to further caption them to add this location info.
I am very aware of ability for multiple heirachial tags. I'm also aware that you can attach multiple tags to each image. I'm spending a lot of time getting these onto my system and debating how much time to spend tagging all these older shots. I'm trying to work with the capabilities of PSE so I can use them the way I want.
    > I'm not 100% sure I understand what you mean, but if I understand you properly, tags give you this capability.
In the past, you could set the option so that you see the photos in all the folders and then you could scroll through all your photos. The full path of each folder was displayed in a banner line that separated the folders. Similar to how the Batch View does now. I would click on a folder to get quickly to the starting point and then page up/down review what's near that point to select ones for further use. I found that very useful. Also, I really like keyboard operations (Page up, page down, etc) and want a way to page through multiple tags (or folders as used to be the case). The current implimentation of PSE does neither in a way that's useful.  If I could do the same with the Tag heirachy then the tags would be much more useful.
The Batch view has scroll/page capability but the order is nothing like I want to see them. Thumbnail View displays strictly by date and has no concept of the groupings that I want and I can't configure it to do so. In addition, these scanned images are getting dated as of the scan  date but I want them to be in the order by the year-month and order they  were taken. If I have a specific tag on images in multiple folders, I can only see all the photo with that tag in Thumbnail or Batch View.
I also have a whole host of reasons why the TimeLine window doesn't work for me. (but that's for another thread.)
I do realize that not everyone wants to see their photos these ways. But the product should have sufficient flexibility to accomodate a wide range of preferences. I've spent a great deal of time in earlier PSE versions getting things the way I want and changing to a new organizer would entail huge amount of time. So I'm really not relishing the thought of changing organizers. And I still think the editor is one of the best, if not the best, around.

  • Using External to browse photos?

    Hi everyone,
Just got my brand new MacBook and love it. I have been using a iBook G4 for work, but this is my first Mac purchase.
My question is I keep a large library of photos on my external drive. I would like to use iPhoto to browse those images, but do not want to move the photos onto my MacBook hard drive. Is this possible and if so how? The external drive I have is a LaCie Mini drive.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    1. iPhoto is not an image viewer, you dont use it to Browse folders of pics. It's a photo organiser, that is a database. Pics have to be imported into it.
    2. You can certainly run your iPhoto library from an external disk. Just hold down the option (or alt) key and laucnh iPhoto, choose the Create library option and navigate to the external. drive and create the librayr there. Then import the photos to it.

  • Can you browse photos on your iPod in iTunes?

I've got a 5th Gen 60GB Video iPod, and down in the right-hand corner of the iTunes window it says "6 photos." But that's it. Is there any way that I can browse these photos in iTunes, perhaps if I wanted to manually update the photos?

as far as i know, you cannot check your photos in iTunes, but i do have another solution...
iTunes uses a folder located somewhere in your hard-drive (you designate it)...
if you wish to be able to browse your Photos, try this (it will be using a basic "folder" in your comptuer)
    1: Plug in your iPod
2: when the iPod and iTunes sync, open up the iPod options menu...
3: click ont he tab labeled "Photos"
4: check mark the box that says "Synchronize Photos From:", and then in the drop down menu click "Choose Folder"
5: a window will appear allowing you to choose a folder in your computer for photos (any pictures you have in this folder will automaticly be added to your iPod when you sync with iTunes)
6: if you wish to add/delete any photos from your iPod just add/delete them from the folder

  • Trouble browsing photos to attach to e-mail

I'm trying to attach a photo to an e-mail and have tried two different ways but have not had luck with either.  First, I clicked the paperclip icon to attach, then clicked the Pictures folder.  I have iPhoto folders for each year 2005-2012 (all with photos in them), yet the 2012 folder does not appear on the Pictures list--no idea why not.  So then I tried to click the iPhoto browser icon.  It said "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list"--iPhoto was open at the time.  I am at a loss as to what to do.  I have iPhoto '11 version 9.3 on a MacBook.

    This:
So then I tried to click the iPhoto browser icon.
is the correct way to go.
    As to fixing it:
    Repair permissions with Disk Utility.

  • How do I make a background browser photo be full page, not tile format.

I want to make my pages more dynamic by adding a browser background photo come up as a full page and not as a repeating tile format. In iWeb'08 help, they say a pop up menu will appear where I can specify dimensions of the photo and, yet, it doesn't. If it makes a difference, I am using iWeb's template called 'Watercolors'.
Anybody know how I can do that?
Thank you in advance for your help...

GG ~ You're welcome. On a related note, according to design professionals, empty space is important:
One of the biggest mistakes typical business people make with documents is going out of their way to seemingly use every centimeter of space on a page, filling it up with text, boxes, clip art, charts, footers, etc. Space, often called "white space," is good. Embrace it. Use it. Often, the more space you don't use on a page, the clearer your message becomes.
Empty space is beautiful, yes. But empty space also implies importance, elegance, professionalism. This is true with graphic design, but you can see the importance of space (both visual and physical) in the context of interior design. Think of the retail space, for example. Target is dedicated to design although they are a discounter. They know about space. Target stores are well designed. They have more empty space than other discounters, Walmart, for example.

  • Browsing photos with Spotlight?

    Hello everybody!
When I search some photos with spotlight is there any way to browse with the spotlight "slideshow" those folders spotlight find?
I mean, I have photos of cars in a folder named "cars". When I search for car photos I have the searchword "cars" and I find that folder (cars), is there now any way to see those photos inside that cars-folder with the spotlight? Or should all the files be somehow named "cars"... I hope you got my point.
    Thanks in advance!

      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have quite a few things that show up with the search term "flowers"--some image files (which you can see in slideshow by pressing the play button in the Spotlight window view), and a couple of folders. The easiest way to view a slideshow of the items in one of the folders is to double click the the folder in the Spotlight window, which opens that folder. Then select all the items, and control-click on one, and select "Slideshow" from the contextual menu.

  • Question on how to Open and Browse photos before editing them.

I need to access many photos taken in the field and residing on a Mac desktop in three folders. I need to edit individual photos (crop, re size, adjust contrast & brightness) prior to incorporating them into media and publishing. After loading the photos I go to Load or Open one or more of them and they (the photos) aren't available (they are ghosted titles). It's worked fine before but I'm doing something different now and can't access the photos!

Are any of these in iphoto or aperture? They're just regular photos in regular folders? Have you set any kind of security on the folder?
What if you browse in the finder? Can you right click and choose to open one in PSE that way?

  • Advice for recovering from "The requested URL was not found on this server" error when browsing photos and videos on my iPhone 4S IOS5.1

Im not quite sure how I got into this situation but I have fried my Iphone app photo and video library.  This demonstrates itself in 2 ways
    1. The above error message when I attempt to play videos older than a certain date.
    2. Photos older than a certain date - appear to be grainy suggesting that only the thumbnails are on the phone, and the full resolution photos have been blitzed.
This coruption may have occured as I have replaced my Iphone 2 times in the last few months for various reasons, where each time I have restored them both using back ups I have made using icloud.  (I havent made an Itunes back up since the iclod came around)
In reading the support forums - it suggest to restore from a back up version.  Is anyone aware if selectively restoring media content from an icloud back up is possible.
I have 2 Back Up versions on icould.
    1- 13.5 GB
    2- 7.2 GB
My hope is that the earlier 13.5 GB version has content I am looking for.
I am kicking myself for not making the occassional itunes back up, or at least use Image capture as a more secure way of ensuring my personal content is not lost. (I am loosing faith with icould).
Can someone suggest a good workflow for restoring from a cloud back up.  I have already downloaded the most recent photos using image capture onto my mac.
    Kiwi Grant

    Progress Update.
I made a back of what existing phtos and Videos I had on my Iplhone.  I used Image capture to do this making an entire back up of photos and videoa that were still intact on the phone.
Image capture is god for this purpose, as it does exactly what you ask it to do without applying any rules or squishing the files back into iphote (which might also be corupted)
Image capture wil do the basic function of retriving the contents of the phone and save them as native files on your hard drive.
Once I did this I erased my iphone, and re intitialised it restoring an older back up from icloud.
As the retore was happneing - I did retreive the missing files that cuased the intial beviour as above, and I could play the videos that were missing in the above scenerio.  The wierd ting was however that even though the source files were now back on the device, the thumbnail previews were missing. Where I ahd balck thumb nails for server portions of the resotred content.
I then went to bed as the restore is a long process.  When I woke up the library had library had cleaned itself up.  Mysteriously the prcess had deleted the files missing the their thumbnails.
This is very perculiar and bad behavior.
I am now repeating the process, and will attempt to download the missing content as it is restored and prior to the phone trying to fix itself.
    Here are the lessons learned.
DO NOT rely on Photo Stream to keep back ups and synchornise videos from you IOS device. IT DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS CAPBILITY
DO NOT rely on iCloud Back Up alone - always fd an occassional iTunes back up or more reliably still always take a back up of photos and video files using Image Capture to be doubly sure that you a have backd up any content.
DO THIS NOW - dont wait to loose your phone ofr have your phone repaired by replacement at the apple Store.  (I did both :-(
