Browse sequence - webhelp

I need one confirmation:
I've generated a help file using RH6 and browse sequence
editor works fine in HTML Help.
Will it not work in WebHelp??? What should i do to make this
work in Webhelp too??

  • Browse Sequences in WebHelp -- Not Readily Apparent?

As a newbie with RH7, I'm looking at using Browse Sequences.
I created two named sequences and assigned a few topics to each,
but when I generate a WebHelp output the only visible presence
seems to be the "back - forward" triangles above the TOC. No
listbox showing the named sequences offered. The only clue that the
two sequences are working is that the back and forward buttons do
move through a particular sequence when I happen to select a topic
that's in that sequence from the TOC.
    Referring to N. Perlin's article,
    www.stcsig.org/oi/hyperviews/archive/02Spring/022cmagi.htm, for
example, what I see is similar to his Figure 1. Can RH7 generate
WebHelp that shows a browse sequence pictogram similar to that
shown in his Figure 3? If not, browse sequences appear to be
useless to foist upon my users.
    Thanks for your comments.
    Steve

Paul et al: I downloaded & installed the Adobe AIR
package and RoboHelp Packager for Adobe AIR. Found link to the
latter in my RH7 Toolbox pod. Tried it on my current project. Wow!
As you said, my browse sequences show up TOC-like in the lower left
pane using the tab titled "How do I?" There's also a Mini-TOC tab
(automatically shows the major headings within the topic on
display!) and a Favorites tab. Beautiful!
I'd use this solution in a heartbeat, but for two
impediments: (1) must purchase a digital certificate for the
single help file (AIR requirement), which would take time
through my Federal customer and (2) the user PCs are locked down
and AIR ain't on the "approved software" list ... yet (for any of
    you familiar with NMCI...). <sigh>

  • RentalMan HTML Ver 8 - Browse Sequences in WebHelp

How do I get my Browse Sequences to show up in my WebHelp output?  I have added a new button to my Navigation on my WebHelp skin and I believe I linked it to my Browse Sequence file in my project folder.  When I preview my skin, I see the new button, but it doesn't do anything.  When I generate my WebHelp output, I don't even see the button let alone have access to my Browse Sequences.  Help.

    Hi there
Sounds like you are misunderstanding Browse Sequnces. There is no button or file to link to. You simply create the Sequence(s) and ensure they are enabled in the Single Source Layout recipe. When all is working they show up as little arrow icons as shown in the image below:
*NOTE: Depending on the skin you are using, the icons may appear differently.

  • Browse sequences in WebHelp Pro

I publish my project to WebHelp Pro and the browse sequence
buttons appear but they do not work. Do browse sequences work in
WebHelp Pro. They work fine for the same project when published to
    WebHelp.
    Thanks for any help.
I am using RoboHelp 7 and RoboHelp Server 7

Has anyone found a fix for this? I'm having a similar
problem. I have a browse sequence setup, but when I publish my
project as WebHelp Pro the forward and back buttons do not show up
at all. I'm also missing the search box next to the "Powered by
    RoboHelp" image.
I'm using RoboHelp X5 and RoboEngine 4. This project was
originally created with RoboInfo 5, then converted to RoboHelp X5.
Both the browse buttons and search box were visible in the RoboInfo
    project.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Is there a way to set up browse sequences for project with multiple TOCs and conditionalized modules

I'm using RoboHelp 9 with WebHelp output.
I've got five outputs, one of which contains Help for common functions, while the other four contain Help for licensed modules. When a user opens the Help for a licensed module, the user sees the core Help and the licensed Help. In addition, files are conditionalized so that searching for unlicensed content from a licensed Help module brings up nothing.
I've been troubleshooting problems with the Previous Topic and Next Topic which, thanks to William, I learned are related to browse sequences. After trying assorted configurations, I've got a couple of questions:
Does RH support only a single browse sequence in a project, even when the project has multiple outputs & TOCs?
If RH supports only a single browse sequence, does that mean there is no way to create a unique browse sequence for each separate output?
If RH supports multiple browse sequences, what is the workflow?
I also maintain a 'master' TOC that contains all the modules, both common and unlicensed. What I've done for now is to autocreate a browse sequence based on the 'master TOC'. When I generate output for a licensed module, which is conditionalized, I only see the TOC for that module and, therefore, can only browse between books and subbooks in that module. I've also verified that topics that do not appear in the conditionalized module, such as for another licensed module, do not appear in the Search results list either.

You also asked about the functional differences between WebHelp and WebHelp Pro, so let me elaborate.
I'm aware of only two major differences (other than the extra benefits of feedback analytics reports and management of "Areas" with authentication in RoboHelp Server).
The behavior of Browse Sequences as explained above
The fact that Content Categories are not supported in WebHelp Pro for this latest version 9.
As for the Browse Sequences you are trying to provide for different modules (licensed, etc.): Multiple Browse Sequences are included in a single .BRS file. The sequences are defined in the XML within the single file.
As a workaround (for either WebHelp or WebHelp Pro) you could create a NGP Help.brs. which you have already created for one module; then backup and archive it. Then, create a modification for the different module before you generate again. The NGP Help.brs. will need to have the same name as your project so you will have to manage the desired .brs file into the project folder when you generate that version. All of your other choices (TOC, Index, Conditional Tags, etc.) would remain the same for the respective modules.
Finally, I note that you are apparently generating WebHelp Pro right now even though you are not publishing it to the RH Server? This is really not the best practice. You should generate plain WebHelp for a web server that does not have RH Server on it (even though you may be getting away with it). As for your concern about "breaking" something; each output is placed in a different !SSL! folder automatically when you generate, so you should be able to generate WebHelp without interferring with the WebHelp Pro output. Then, you can re-publish to the RH Server using WebHelp Pro whenever the server is ready.

  • RoboHelp HTML v9 - Browse Sequence not appearing when generated

    RoboHelp HTML v9
New project - eg not converted from previous version
Added a browse sequence as per the help documentation - I've followed the help documentation however when I get to view result of the generated WebHelp - the browse sequence is not present on the topic pages that were added to the browse sequence.
I read previous forum postings for RH8 - where reinstalling or repairing the software seemed to assist - however when I access through control panel - add/remove programs the only option in to Remove RH9.
So I thought I'd ask the question here before uninstalling.
There was also mention of a dll file that needs to be registered on the viewers pc before the browse sequence would appear and if this is the case due to the possible audience for the publish I would not be able to control that.
    Any help is appriciated, thanks.

    Hi
Thanks - I guess I was looking for the page icons that visualized the
    sequence for the viewer.
That being said - the navigation arrows are present in my published file
however seem to hold no functionality - while on a topic that is within
the browse sequence clicking the arrows does not move through the
    sequence.
I was initially looking for onscreen navigation  for a series of topics -
I though browse sequence would do the trick but I think I will move to
    another method.

    Hi there
Your mention of: "the browse sequence is not present on the topic pages
that were added to the browse sequence" seems to imply that you are
expecting to see the sequence directly on those pages. But that usually
    won't happen.

  • Browse Sequences

Hi, I'm usine RoboHelp HTML 9, and I'm having trouble displaying the browse sequences in when I complile the WebHelp project.  I Auto-created the Browse sequences using my TOC.  When I compile and "View Results" I don't see the previous and next topic arrows.  The TOC is there along with the Contents, Index, and Search buttons.  Just the little left and right arrows are missing.  Any troubleshooting suggestions would be most welcome.  Thanks.

    Hi Christy
Did your project begin life in an earlier version of RoboHelp? If so, that may explain why Browse Sequences seemed to fail for you.
Are you exploiting the Content Categories feature of version 9? If so, that also may explain things.
Indeed RoboHelp 9 brings new wrinkles to the mix with the whole Content Categories feature. New capabilities are added.
Think of the option you see in the Navigation section as being like the master breaker in your house. You can enable or disable things globally there. And when you define different Content Categories, you may want Browse Sequences for one category but not want them for another. Or you may have defined multiple sequences and you wish to assign a different one to each category.
I created a project from scratch and of course it didn't have a Browse Sequence. Therefore the option wasn't even available for me to turn it on. I defined a Browse Sequence and the option was enabled when I looked. I also looked in the Content Category and it was enabled there as well. This seems to suggest you either upgraded an older project and things weren't quite set as you would have expected or that someone has been playing with the settings and experimenting without fully realizing what the settings actually do or how they may interact.

  • Help creating browse sequences that work and deleting sync TOC

    Hi,
I'm using the latest version of the TCS with RH 9.0. I'm trying to create WebHelp Pro output
for a book produced originally in Framemaker. I've been following Rick's Skinny on skins
guide to tailor the look and feel, but am having real problems getting my browse sequence
to work. I've used Tools> Browse Sequence Editor and then Auto-create using Frame TOC,
selected the TOC from the drop-down list and chosen 4  as the depth that I want to browse.
The TOC that appears in Browse sequences  is strange and doesn't represent the Frame TOC that
appears in the html, I left this 'as is'. Once I've generated the ouput the sequence browsing works
for the equivalent of top-level heading only. What am I doing wrong and what should I
be editing to make this fully functional?
I would also like to delete the Sync TOC from the toolbar, and it seems to be possible to
delete the image but not the entire field. I know it can be done, because Peter Grainge's
RH site doesn't have it. Between Peter and Rick I will somehow achieve this website for
    my company...
Many thanks in advance for any ideas and help.
    Best wishes,
    Karen

    Hi all
@Jeff - In WebHelp output a Browse Sequence is presented using the arrows that sit in the Navigation Mini-Toolbar. I've documented some of it at the link below:
@Karen - Are you wanting one single sequence that works to allow the user to traverse the TOC from top to bottom or bottom to top? If so, the way you do this is by creating one very long sequence in the Browse Sequence Editor. You might begin by specifying 0 as the level to use when auto creating. Normally that will be sufficient. However, it depends on your TOC as to how well that may actually work.

  • Browse Sequence Stopped Working

I generated WebHelp output files on 11/19/14 (less than 2 weeks ago) in which the browse sequence works as expected.  When I generated output today, I noticed that the browse sequence buttons were not displaying.  I'm using RH 10 with IE 11.  I am the only person who accesses the RoboHelp project files for this project.
I checked the WebHelp project settings and noticed the "Enable Browse Sequence" box was not checked.  I checked it.  I regenerated the project.  The browse buttons now appear but remain disabled.  I used the Browse Sequence Editor to regenerate the browse sequence from the TOC.  It did not work as expected.  Instead of following the TOC sequence, it put all the first-level books at the beginning of the browse sequence, then all the second-level books, and so on.  Just the same, I saved and regenerated the project.  The browse buttons still appeared, but still remained disabled.  I used the Browse Sequence Editor again to regenerated the browse sequence based on the TOC using the option to create separate browse sequences for each book down to level 5 (just an arbitrary number).  RH created a bunch of separate browse sequences.  I clicked OK again and regenerated the project.  I still see disabled browse buttons, and I tried clicking multiple topics in different books to see if any of the separate browse sequences worked.  The browse buttons remained disabled.
I reviewed previous RH posts on this subject.  I saw Julietta Curtis' post on browse sequences not working in IE 10 but working in Chrome and Firefox.  I opened in Chrome and Firefox the last two versions of the WebHelp I generated; same results as IE 11--disabled browse buttons.  I opened the WebHelp from 11/19/14 in Chrome and Firefox; the browse sequence works fine.
Note:  I also tried regenerating the project using the project's .BRS file from prior processes--including .BRS files going back to 10/29/14.
Any thoughts on how to get the browse sequence working again?  Thanks!

Amebr, I would still be interested in knowing what you mean by "For the buttons, perhaps make sure your browse sequence hasn't become unticked in your SSL?"
I have tried everything I can think of.  I took a copy of the .hhc (TOC) file, reformatted it as a .BRS file using the structure of a valid .BRS file from another project, named the browse sequence (although that doesn't seem to matter), opened the Browse Sequence Editor and verified that I can view the browse sequence and view links from the Browse Sequence Editor, and re-verified the "Enable Browse Sequence" box is checked on the WebHelp Settings window.
RoboHelp appears to recognize the named BRS file as a valid BRS file, and it exactly matches the structure of the TOC because it was created from the TOC file.  The generated project still just shows disabled browse sequence buttons (which are an indication that the browse sequence box is checked because the buttons do not show up at all if it is unchecked).  Open to any suggestions on how to get this to work.
Don't think this is related, but ran a batch generate process on a different project and received a message that MS Word is not installed.  RH appears not to have been updated when my MS Word was updated from 2007 to 2013.  Was still able to generate the other project, and its browse sequence works.  What do I need to do to get RH 10 to recognize MS Word 2013?  Again, thanks!

  • Apply Conditional Build tag to Browse Sequence

    Hi Everyone-
I'm trying to control 6 conditional builds in one project. I
have 6 working indexes and TOCs using build tags. I was wondering
if there was a way to apply tags or somehow conditionalize the
    browse sequences. I'm running RH7.
    Thanks in advance!
    Wendy

    Hi Wendy:
It seems you are having the same problem that I did. I have
different User Guides however some of the Guides may have the same
procedure. I was trying to setup the search so only one of the
topics would return on the search and not 3 of them. I found
something that actually had to do with RoboHelp x3 but I applied it
to RoboHelp x5, where you need to do the following.
Create build TAG1 - this is for the ones you do not want
    search to return.
Create build TAG2 - this is for the ones you do want the
    search to return.
Apply the tags accordingly to each procedure accordingly.
Make copies of the following files in the WebHelp directorys
    just incase:
    Folder WHDATA:
    whftdata0.htm
    whwdata0.htm
    Folder WHXDATA:
    whftdata0.xml
    whfwdata0.xml
    Folder WHGDATA
    whlstf0.htm
GENERATE PRIMARY LAYOUT (This should be set to Webhelp)
    1. Define the Conditional Build Expressioin to exclude topics
that are not wanted in the search:
    A. Click the Define button.
This wil bring up the Define Conditional Build Tag
    Expression dialog.
    B. Click the Advance button.
    C. Click the Not button.
    D. Select TAG1 from the drop-down list of Available
    Conditional Build Tags.
    E. Click the Add Tag button.
    F. Click OK
    G. Select your WebHelp Options, and then click Finish.
When you pull up your test or Dev site and perform a search
you should only come up with one topic. I just finished this and it
worked. Also, as a reminder I am working in x5 and not x7.
    Good Luck,
    Amy

  • Browse sequence not working in IE 10 - works in Chrome and Firefox

    Hi all:
I am using RH10 and generating webhelp. I have applied the recent fixes for webhelp.
The browse sequence does not work when the webhelp is displayed with IE 10. It works when the webhelp is displayed in Chrome and Firefox. Index, Search and Glossary are working in all three browsers.
Does this sound familiar to anybody? It seems to be a different problem from the one that was addressed by the recent fixes.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Browse Sequences option is greyed out

    Hello everyone,
When I use the wizard to setup my Generate output the Browse

The navigation buttons for Next, Previous, and Sync TOC in

Is there a way that I can enable the browse options in the

  • Browse Sequence in RH7

I auto-created a browse sequence using the TOC. I am using
the BeautifulVistas-WH-Generic skin. I see only one button on the
navigation pane -- the X button. There must be other steps required
to produce the navigation buttons, but I cannot figure it out from
    the Help file.

    Hi harooki2
    Try these steps:
Click View > Pods > Single Source Layouts
    Double-click the WebHelp layout
    Click the Next > button
On this section of the dialog should be a check box labeled
"Browse Sequences". Ensure it is checked.
Click Finish and you should now see the Browse Sequence
    buttons.

  • Exporting the Browse Sequence XML file for Use in Another Project

When I generate a browse sequence based on the TOC using zero for the book level, instead of getting A, A1, A2, B, B1, B2, I get A, B, A1, A2, B1, B2.  The TOC runs through all 1st level items first, cycles back through all 2nd level item, then 3rd level, etc.
My workaround was to auto-create the browse sequence at a 0 level and then manually manipulate it to output according to how my readers would actually read my online book (ie A Aa A1 A1a A1b A2 A2a A2b B B1 etc etc).
Now that I have my browse sequence in the correct order for this project, I do not want to repeat these steps every time I create a new version of my OLH for the same guide after some minor updates have been made to the FM source.
There is a file named whbrs.xml inside the output folder and it contains the browse sequence order I specified during my workaround steps.
Is it possible to export this file to another location for use in another project referencing the same guide?
This methodology is much preferred as I am working at an enterprise level with multiple documents (some numbering in the hundreds of pages) and do not want to have to manually use my workaround for each project I update over the next few years.

    Hi Kristopher
You probably wouldn't want to use that particular file as it's an output file. You would likely have better luck using the ProjectName.BRS file as that one should be a source file.
However, keep in mind that whether (or how well) this will work will entirely depend on having the recipient project using the same identical structure and identical file names.
    Cheers... Rick

  • No glossary or browse sequence in 1 chm

On my own PC, I have four classic HTML chm Help files (User
Guides for biometric and encryption software end users). Each Help
file has only one .glo glossary file in the project, which I can
edit and view. Each project has the HHactive.dll in the same folder
as the chm file. When compiled however, I see glossary panes in
only three of the Help files.
Researching this, the RoboHelp help says something about
browse sequence. Of course, it does not say what this is or provide
a link to it! I did however create them using the Browse Sequence
Editor on the Tools menu. Sure enough, neither the Browse Sequence
or the glossary appear in that particular Help file.

    Hi there
If you look at the Project Manager side (earlier than version
    7) or click View > Pods > Project setup, you should see a
pseudo folder named "Windows". Expand that and double-click the
    window assigned to this project.
