Browser back button does not work (IE) - Error On Page message

Just take over website from our designer; I'm new, probably doing more fiddling on the live remote website than I should be...
http://www.cmcwny.org
Error On Page message, internal links work, but the browser Back button does not (at least in IE).
I have a backup of my local site from before this happened, but I do not know how to actually replace it.
Any help on either issue will be appreciated, thanks!

Hi
First, get rid of your designer, the page design/code is a mess.
There are a number of problems with the page, not least being the disabling of the back button in all browsers I tested it in, (visitors may visit once with this, but are unlikely to do so a 2nd time).
The menu system is a fixed size so that when the browser is resized it overflows the browser window.
The use of tables for layout is not recommended as it is inaccessible to users using assistive devices.
To put this more politely, if you paid for this, ask for your money back. If you did not pay, then start again and use one of the dreamweaver layouts for your page, for more info, see - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/introducing_new_css_layouts.html.

  • The back button does not work consistently, and rarely works if I open an attachment...any ideas on fixing this?

    The back button does not work consistently, and rarely if ever when I open an attachment. Does anyone have a fix for this?
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
    == I installed firefox

    Same problem here: I never had a problem with the previous versions and now I don't even get my homepage when I click Firefox. Instead, I am getting a blank screen that says "New Tab", only after I click the "Home" symbol I get my Homepage (Yahoo). The browser - back and browser forward button don't work anymore, very annoying. Normally a newer version should be an improvement but it looks like Mozilla really messed up with this "improvement". probably I am going to use Google chrome from now on.

  • Back button does not work and homepage does not show on startup

    My back and forward buttons do not work anymore. they just show grey and I can not click on them.
    Also my home page does not show when i start firefox.
    I reinstalled firefox 4 and then went back to firefox 3.6.16 and have the same problem in both versions.
    Not sure what to do anymore
    I just found out that when I open a second window everything works fine in the second window, but it still does not work in the first window.
    When I close both windows the same thing happens. The first window my home page does not show up and the back button does not work, but the second window works normal. Including my home page.

    Yeah, I am having the same problem (with 4.0 and earlier versions). It is really frustrating to say the least. I never thought I'd say this, but I might have to go back to IE if FF is going to be this useless. I noticed that you have to right click (instead of left click like it works in the real world) on the backwards/forwards buttons, and that is no less frustrating since my mouses backwards/forwards buttons no longer work with this new asinine button set up.

  • Firefox 4 was functioning well until two days ago. Browser will not open to my home page and tool bars do not appear. Was able to find toolbar but "back" button does not work. What changed?

    Firefox now opens to a blank page and the word Firefox appears in upper left hand corner in orange. It, apparently, contains a drop down menu. I can navigate from here but "back" button does not function in any website. How do I get it back to where it was previous to this change?

    You can change this if you don't mind peeking under the covers into Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
    (i) Page thumbnails (default)
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    (ii) Blank tab
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    (iii) Built-in Firefox home page
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    (iv) Any other page
    browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • The browser back button is not working correctly when using the search funtion in ProBoards forums. Is there a known issue with ProBoards & FF?

    I have submitted a bug report to ProBoards, but they cannot duplicate the problem I am having, so I am submitting this here in hopes you can find a solution.
    At ProBoards Support and another PB forum while doing searches I found this problem, which continues with repeated testing over the past week or so:
    url: http://support.proboards.com/search
    1. enter perameters for the search (posts only by staff for the last 2 days)
    2. choose one of those post results & click on it (choose a post on page 14 and not on page 1 of the results)
    3. using the browser back button, attempt to return to the previous page of search results
    4. rather than being taken back to the search results with my parameters, the search parameters have been removed and the page show 1000 results of posts by everybody.
    I have tested this over and over again, disabling plugins, and nothing seems to alter the malfunctioning of the back button when I am doing this search function at ProBoards.
    I have tested it in Internet Explorer and find that in IE the browser back button works properly with ProBoards searches. I always get the result I expect, so it's a problem with how FF interfaces with ProBoards, I think.

    Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
    Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
    To clear cache and cookies do the following:
    #Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
    #Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
    #Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
    #From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
    #Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

  • On Firefox 4, the back button does not work on a new browsing tab or window.

    Ever since I installed Firefox 4, I have noticed a problem that was not present with the previous version of Firefox. Whenever I open up Firefox and enter in a new web address, I cannot use the back arrow to go back to my original homepage; the arrow is ghosted out. The same problem exists when I open up a new browsing tab. Let me explain with an example. I open up my browser, and then I open a new tab (now there are two tabs open). In the new tab I type www.espn.com. Then I click on a link on espn.com. Say then I want to go back to the espn.com homepage that I just previously visited. I can't do it by clicking the back arrow; it's ghosted out. I have to physically type the address again (www.espn.com). Why has this changed? Is there a way to fix it? Why can't I just click the back arrow to go back to the espn.com homepage that I typed in originally (or my original homepage if I opened up a new window instead of a tab)? Oddly enough, if I go one link deeper into the espn.com site, I can then go back to the immediately preceding webpage, but not all the way back to the original espn.com homepage.
    I can't stand IE, but it doesn't have this problem. This problem also was not present on the old version of Firefox. I just verified this by testing the old version which I have installed on another computer.
    Please advise.

  • All of a sudden my back button does not work at all, on any site, and when I start Firefox it does not go to the home page I specified

    Just a few days ago, I noticed that when I start Firefox it goes to a blank page, despite the fact that I have several times checked and rechecked under "Options" and my home page is in there. Also the back button has stopped working. I have made sure that inprivate browsing is not enabled, history is maintained etc etc

  • My back button does not work because the prior screen does not appear in the history.  I therefore must go back to the blue screen and reload safari.  Apple tech support could not help.  Can anyone else help?

    After I installed mountain lion my back button frequently does not work because the prior screen does not appear iunder History.  Apple tech support was not able to fix the problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    You don't in the condition it's in. You will either have to get the phone replaced by Apple or pay a 3rd party to repair it.
    there seriously should be more than two ways to solve this other wise apple is useless and we will never buy another apple product.
    Seriously? It's physically broken!

  • Back Button does not work after upgrade to F4.01, why?

    90% of the time, since my upgrade to Firefox 4.01, my Back Button (arrow) does not work. I know there's a referring page and it hasn't opened a new window. Ideas?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

  • Back button does not work with some web sites to return me back too Firefox main page after concluding business on site.

    After connecting to a web site and completing tasks, I use back button too return too Firefox main page. After using back button to get back to the original site log in page the back button (after repeated uses) will never get me off the web page and back to the Firefox main page. At this point the only way too get back too Firefox main page is too shut down Firefox wait 60 seconds and restart Mozilla-Firefox.

    Some web pages are coded to redirect you forward to another page. In that case, when you go back to the page, Firefox redirects you forward again.
    To bypass this, use the history drop-down next to the back and forward buttons. The drop-down has the most recent pages on top, and older pages below. Jump as far down the list as you can, then repeat as needed to get back to the first page.
    Does it work?

  • My back button does not work in safari.  How do I fix it?

    How dod I correct the fact issue of my back button not working while surfing the net.  This happened after I upgraded to Mountain Lion.

    Are you trying to use the Delete ⌫ key for back-to-previous-page?  The latest Safari doesn't support this.  You can use ⌘[ or ⌘⇠

  • Back button does not work, links are no longer coloured/underlined

    I'm running a Mac OSX 10.5.8
    While pages load well, several perfectly normal features don't seem to function. The "back" button is shaded out and unusable after you have arrived at a web page, and you need to have another tab open to switch between to activate it. Same thing with forward. Also most standard links on web pages are no longer colored and underlined, though the option for that has been selected in the preferences. Links still function, but they are in black without underline and are thus difficult to distinguish from other text. The cursor also becomes the text-editing cursor rather than the hand cursor when you hover over a link.

    Extensions that may '''interfere with the Back Button''' that are already listed in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions Problematic extensions] as creating other problems
    *McAfee Site Advisor (update perhaps 3rd week July 2011)
    *Yahoo Toolbar (https://support.mozilla.com/questions/845691)
    I would also disable the extension you mentioned until your problem is solved with the Back Button.

  • Back button does not go to the previous page

    Hi all, first post.
    As an imac user I also have a laptop running Win7 O/S and of course Safari 5.1 (7534.50).
    I go to the tabbed browsing bar, click on a bookmark and open all in tabs.
    The problem occurs when I use the back button to go to the previous page. Instead I get a previous set of tabs? Or sinle blank tab?
    Can anybody help me please!
    Mike

    Right - found a workaround for the PC (mac is not affected).
    Instead of hitting the back button, hold it.
    This will bring a list of all possible back pages, select the one you want.
    Once you have done this, the back button behaves a bit better.
    EDIT: Timesink has noted that the backspace button works.
    Always beter to use keys and shortcuts

  • "back" button does not work correctly in Firefox 4. I have downgraded because of this.

    Our intranet has a page (1) from which user generates a list of links to other items (page2). Follow one of these links to page (3). Press "back" - returns to page (1) not page (2). Works ok in Firefox 3.6.17.

    Instructions for a clean installation then.<br><br>
    #Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0.1] and download the installation file to your desktop.<br><br>
    #Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (''don't checkmark the box'').<br><br>
    #Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox<br><br>

  • Browser Go button / "More" button does not work

    Within the browser the Browser Go button / "More" button does not work
    When I tap it the highlight appears above it... but nothing happens.
    I upgraded the OS today and that didn't fix the problem.
    I have to use google to browse to a different url... incredibly frustrating... solution?
    With further testing I've found that if I load a new tab nothing happens... if I then reselect that new blank tab I can then enter in one url of my choosing and it will load... after that the tab from a Go button stance is dead again.  No matter what I do I can get the 'three button' more button to work.
    Help Please!

    Hey tudorwhiteley,
    Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
    Does this happen to all websites?  Also what version of BlackBerry 10 are you currently running?  This can be found by going to Settings>About.
    If you remove the battery and place it back in and then access the browser, are you able to replicate the issue?
    I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.
