This sounds like the web server itself is down. I.e. the server platform is up and running, but the Apache web service is not running.
No idea what your environment consists of, but the typical way to start Oracle's Apache application server is
a) logon as the oracle o/s user on the web/application server platform
b) run the opmnctl (located at ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl) to start the web server daemon
Note that this is a public forum staffed by volunteers. If you have a critical "system down" problem, you would be better served by filing a SR (Service Request) directly with Oracle Support via Metalink.

Are any special procedures required for installing the Enterprise Manager 10g (Browser-based) Console???

There seems to be some confusion with what you are installing. Your original question was how do you install the DBConsole for 10g. When you install a 10g database, you get the option of either installing a database console or point to a Grid Control. If you need to reinstall the database console for some reason, you use the emca utility.
From your last note, it seems u don't have any Oracle database running on ur server...

WRT54G V6.0 Web Based Interface Issue

I'm trying to setup a WRT54G. I ran the SetupWizard which didn't work.
I can access the Web Based Interface at 192.168.1.1 , but when it appears (after putting in the admin password), the page doesn't properly load. The colors and some text comes up, but all of the tabs, buttons and links are missing (including the Save Settings button). I can't get to Administration page to restore the factory defaults or upgrade the firmware.
I've tried the pressing the reset button for 30 seconds about 100 times so far, and nothing has worked. I've tried this on 3 different computers, and my other 2 WRT54G's run properly on all of these computers.
I bought the router about 2 years ago and I just opened the box today.
What fixes are available?

If you are not able to see any Tab on your router setup page, If you have any Firewall or Antivirus installed on your computer you may disable it and then try to Login to your Router Setup page and check if you are able to see any Tabs on Routers GUI. If still not then Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable.
If you still face the same problem, Connect your other computer to the Router and try to access the router setup page and check if you are able to see any tabs on the router setup page. If stil the same problem on the 2nd computer then you need to Upgrade the firmware of your Router using TFTP tool.
First you need to Download 1.67 MB the Latest Firmware of your router.
TFTP tool which you can Download 44.3 KB (It will be named as BEFW11S4-v2_SetupWizard)
Double click the tftp.exe file and click run :
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned. By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading. A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now Check if you are able to Login to your Routers GUI and able to see the Tabs on it.

Reader won't start, Fedora Core 6 newbie

I am a Linux newbie running an up-to-date Fedora Core 6 with GNOME.
I just installed the Adobe Reader version 7.0.8 for Linux .rpm file by downloading and right clicking it and choosing Open with Software Installer.
I find the Adobe Reader launch icon in Applications > Office, but double clicking it or opening it does not start the Reader. Properties > Permissions allow executing the file as a program.
I opened a terminal window, changed my directory to /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat 7.0/bin and typed acroread into the command line. I received a list of expr: syntax error messages.
What have I done wrong? Thanks.

Thanks so Much your Help... commenting out line 644 in the <location you chose during install>/bin/acoread.... Just in case any of the newer users are wondering how to easily find this path or want to check the paths of other applications. at the command line interface... type the following: which acroread <enter> <it will return> /usr/bin/acroread then do this: ls -l /usr/bin/acroread <will return this> lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 32 Feb 17 07:32 /usr/bin/acroread -> /usr/Adobe/Acrobat7/bin/acroread If you you look at the beginning of the line you'll notice the lrwxrwxrwx The "l" sybolizes that /usr/bin/acroread is actually a link to /usr/Adobe/Acrobat7/bin/acroread In order to apply the fix you now know the correct path to edit that acroread file properly. As root I used gedit with the numbers preference turned on by typing the following: gedit /usr/Adobe/Acrobat7/bin/acroread (Once it opened under Edit ---> preferences, Under the view tab, check the box that says Display Line Numbers. Thin browser based client for "workflow creation" UI, any suggestions?

Hello, we are building an automation software. We are planning to have a browser based front end. User will create a "workflow" like diagram user our User interface.
What is the best way to do this? If you have used bea weblogic workshop, the process flow diagrams is similar to what we are looking for. Basic idea is to have user generate this entire ddiagram on front end and we pass the resultant flow chart(workflow) as simple xml data to the backend for processing.
Is it possible using applets/pure-html or something similar?? Any already developed components available???

Well I haven't had any luck getting an iPhone to present an SSL certificate to an IIS7 ASP.Net webserver.
The same .p12 certificate works on IE7, PocketIE (WM6), Firefox and Safari (PC version). The website is set to Require an SSL certificate. From the Windows Mobile or PC browsers, you get a prompt for the client certificate. I have tried Nick's website and the iPhone will prompt to choose between his and my certificates, however with IIS7 you just get a 403.7 client SSL certificate required error.
I have turned on SSL tracing in HTTP.Sys and get the following (edited for length) :

Problems with Oracle Express 10.2 on Fedora core 6

Can someone please help with the installation of Oracle XE 10.2
on Fedora Core 6.
I'm taking a database paper at university and we are using Oracle.
I'd like to get Oracle going on my home machine so I can do the assignments at home.

and the rpm seems to install without error and the configure script seems to go ok.
I get the following messages...

To access the Database Home Page go to "http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex"
But when I try to go to the Database Home Page I get an Unable To Connect error from Firefox.

opmn is the Oracle Process Manager for the Application Server, which is included only on the companion disk of the SE and EE editions, not on the XE edition.
Verify the browser settings, and verify listener is up and running.
lsnrctl status
you should see the 8080 and 2100 ports listed, which stands for the http server and ftp server.
You should see also the XE instance listed in the instances list.
Verify if there are any outstanding errors on the alertXE.log file. It has been reported that missing temporary files are the reason why it doesn't show the login page.
Also, verify the XE instance is up and running, just enter in a sql prompt from the OS and verify with the command
show sga
and
select status from v$instance;
~ Madrid.

Oracle has hundreds of products. I like to group them into 'technology' and 'application' products.
The 'technoloy' products I group into
- data management == database
- data access == applicaiton server (fusion)
- data manipulation == developer tools and languages
- data sharing == collaboration suite
Without data access, the data management and data manipulation is plain 'client-server' stuff.
With data access, you stick an application server (web server, J2EE server, other server) between the client and the database.
The Oracle Application Server is a collection of Oracle technology designed to support n-tier computing. The technology includes:
- http server (Apache stuff)
- reporting server
- portal server
- forms/data entry server
- generic J2EE server
- BPEL and SOA orchestration
- Web Services server
- workflow and intergration server
- centralized security and single sign-on server
and a lot more.
The Oracle database, of course, stores and manages data. Oracle now has many 'database managers', including
- Oracle Database == the traditional one
- Times Ten == in memory only, but very high speed
- Berkeley == embedded (to be included as part of your application)
- Lite == for laptops and remote devices
and more
The traditional Oracle database has many features. These features may not be needed by all organizations. So Oracle has created several editions. These are Express, Standard Edition One, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Personal Edition. In the order presented, each adds more feature than the one before but includes all the features from the one before.
The Express Edition has the fewest features and the simplest install. It has no official Oracle support and has size limitations (4GB data max, only runs one 1 CPU). It includes Application Express which allows you to access the data from a web browser. I think of this as 'Microsoft Access, with Oracle multi-user reliability, on the Web'.
The Standard Edition One has everything from Express and adds: Java in the database, ability to use up to 2 CPU, many more features such as multi-media storage, no data size limit. It also changes the install to use the Oracle Univeral Installer.
Standard Edition adds Real Application Cluster to allow up to 4 CPU to be used, whether the 4 CPU are on one, two or four machines.
Enterprise Edition adds many high availability and scalability features to ensure the database will try to stay up all the time and will be able to handle many hundreds or thousands of users. Many DBA features are added to allow detailed tuning and management. And many options such as Partitioning, Label Security and Spatial can be purchased and added to this edition.
Personal Edition includes all of Enterprise Edition AND all of the Enterprise Edition options except Real Application Cluster. It is designed to be used by the Oracle developer so it is very inexpensive (in comparison to the Enterprise Edition) but it is limited (by the honor system) to one user access.
So when you use Express Edition, everytthing you do can be done in Enterprise Edition as well. Express Edition is a great learning tool for getting comfortable with the commercial Oracle database. All of this is described in a few pages of documentation (about 70 thousand) at http://docs.oracle.com. If you want to understand Oracle well, you may have to spend a bit less time with the nuns for a while.

WRT54G: Browser access interface corruption?

WRT54G V.5: Completed firmware upgrade to v1.02 successfully...but...now when accessing administration interface through browser the interface seems corrupted. There are no Tabs, etc. only some random block graphics, a few populated data fields and so forth. Any idea on how to correct the corruption or the web page read error?

I used both IE7 and Seamonkey.
Did you enable JavaScript (not Java)?
Yes, I enabled Javascript in both browsers on both pcs.
In IE enable the scripterror display in the advanced internet options. For Firefox check the javascript error console for errors.
Since when did you have the problem? Did you try a firmware reflash to fix it?
I have not had any reason to try to access the configuration utility for a few months as everything was working fine but all of a sudden, my win98 machine lost internet. I've tried everything within windows to get the internet to work with no luck. I thought I would check the settings in the router to make sure all is well there, but, like I said, I can't use it because of the web display corruption.
Did you reset the router?
Yes, I have done a reset and have even set the router back to factory defaults via the button on the back and am in the process of setting the router back up. Still have the same problem if I try the web based config though.
I have another problem now, since I reset the router back to factory defaults, I am running the setup wizard from the disk, but it keeps asking me for a password. As I have reset the router, I assume the password is admin but that doesn't work, just hitting enter doesn't work and my old password that I had changed it too previously doesn't work.

Browser based wireless authentication not renewing dhcp

Hi, I need to renew my dhcp by hand after I authenticate to the web browser based authtication system my wireless network uses. The IT dept. tells me this is MY problem and that I need to contact apple. Is this a known isue and if so is there any plans for a fix?

Strictly speaking, that should never be necessary - they have their authentication system screwed up.
However, to do it is straight-forward: System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Renew DHCP Lease
Alternatively, over wireless you can simply turn Airport off then on again.
From the command line (in Terminal or in a script):
sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP
(replace 'en0' with the name of the network interface you are using; probably 'en0' for ethernet and 'en1' for wireless).

Toshiba notebooks dont support any Linux distributions. Toshiba notebooks are delivered and tested only with Microsoft Windows OS.
As far as I know this unit was delivered with Marvell based PC Express I/F LAN (I/F Chip Marvell based PC Express I/F)
Well, you can try to goggle a little bit. Maybe you will find a driver for Linux.
Furthermore the Fedora Core 4 is based on a Red Hat Linux distribution. So I recommend to visit also this website:

Error while installing Oracle 10g on Fedora Core 1. After 40% of the Installation is thru, the progress bar is showing 40%, it gives error "Not connected to Oracle" and the installation has to be terminated.
We have tried by using the on-line procedure and changing the required script to make believe it as said.

Here are some of the advantages I found for non-browser application:
1. We have a flexible submittal process, since the user can launch the application anytime.
2. Once launched, user can work offline. When done, user can again connect to the network and save the document to a repository.
3. We will have a better look and feel for our authoring tool, since it is not constrained within the browser area.
Let me know your thoughts and ideas.
