Browser confusion
I simply don't know which browser I should be using to maximize Panther OS capability. If I use Safari and try to play my satelite music player using a plug-in i get a message "Plug-in not found the player has extension of 'MIME type application/xmplayer2/." If I try to access a site such as Armani.com it asks for Real Player which is already installed and the message is "Requested file NF, the link you followed may be outdated or inaccurate". Using Opera I tried Match.com and although the site opens it is broken up with sections blocked off or overlapping one another. Just now, trying to get into this discussion using Safari I got a message 'Safari can't verify the website Apple-support'. Why am I needing all the downloads and getting all these error messages from just trying to access websites? Any input is appreciated!
Safari in Jaguar is not in the RSS form, there are some known problems with plugins in 10.2 Making sure you have the newest Sfari update is always a good thing to do. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

We've been running HTMLDB since 1.5 and are currently at 2.2.1.00.04, but within the last two weeks we have been seeing some very strange behavior. Form submissions or moving from one page to the next in either the Development GUI or within any application will result in either blank pages (although in most cases a reload [refresh] will bring up the page that was expected) or the following errors:
Error Workspace 741023382320307 has no privileges to parse as schema.
or
Access denied by Application security check (this one will only allow us to logout, refresh doesnt work).
or
ORA-0000: normal, successful completion
Error Unable to fetch authentication_scheme in application 4000. (a refresh brings the page up normally)
We've made no major changes to hardware/operating system/software.
We have ruled out our load balancer by accessing htmldb by FQDN and port number, and have disabled webcache. Its almost as if our session variables in memory will just suddenly disappear.

These pages and errors are absolutely random. I could experience 20 of them in an hour or 1 in the next week. We have done extensive log checking, but can find nothing that would explain the behavior.

Has anyone experienced these issues. We are currently running a number of applications in production and this is already starting to affect them.

I'm not really sure what's happening but this sounds like what I call 'browser confusion'. Basically, like what you mentioned, that the current session state gets dropped, either in the browser or the server. Don't know which.

made the BIG mistake of downloading XQuartz-2.7.5 (x11) when I was prompted to do so in order to download some fonts. Now my browser is screwed up, I just want to uninstall the thing, but apparently moving the application to trash doesn't do the trick. How can I get rid of it?! I downloaded it from this page: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

thanks in advance.thanks for the quick response. I emptied my trash and reset my default homepage to google -- realized my initial browser confusion was because it had defaulted to Bing instead. I made sure that my preferences had my default search engine set as google, but when I did a search on google, I was directed to Bing again. It looks like it flashed through this url: http://search.installmac.com/results.html?c=8&v=insMac&q=creative+canopy before it went from my google page to the Bing search results page. So... it seems like there's something still lurking in my applications/system that I need to get rid of.
When I searched for xQuartz in my applications folder, these files came up. but since they didn't necessarily have XQuartz in the file name, I wasn't positive they were related and hesitated to trash them. Should I?

Why would functionality work in the authoring environment,
but not in the browser...
I have two movies that I am loading swfs into. in the first
swf there is a button that sets a boolean on the root, and fires a
load function for the second swf. When the second loads, it
retreives that boolean, setting it into a local var. This works
fine In Flash when I test the movie, but when I test it in the
browser, or even just run the main swf, it doesn't see the boolean.
I though it might be some weird scope issue, so I set the boolean
var to be _global, and it still comes back undefined in the second
swf. How can that be!?!?!
Is there a security issue I don't know about?
I though maybe the swf was loading before the bolean was
being set, so I put the init of the local var in the onLoad
function for an xml file I am loading into the second swf. Again it
worked fine in Flash, but not the Browser.

Any Ideas, please....sorry if you covered this, but make sure you are not testing
with an older cached version (?)

Hi! I'm in love with the idea of in-browser editing. I'm doing web design for clients using Adobe Muse at the moment, and it's great. The only setback is that it's really hard for the clients to update the page themselves, etc. My main and only reason to use BC would be to upload all of my clients websites on it and let them use the in-browser editor. Am I wrong to think that that's how it will work? I sign up, and just upload the websites with their own domains, then set up the client's log in info for them?
I've heard about a limit to how many websites I can have, and users. Are the users the amount of clients I can let use the in-browser editing? Only 3? Please help me out, team!
Right now I'm using a different hosting (will not name) it was my first hosting provider, and I've used it ever since so I'm so used to unlimited websites, etc. Obviously, I'm so impressed by the BC features though that I really want to be apart of it.

As far as I am aware, there is no limit to how many website you can have. The 3 that you have mentioned is likely referring to 3 admins per site- but note that you can have more admins for a fixed fee.
You might also be getting confused by 5 free basic sites that come with a creative cloud subscription- so fyi, you can have as many sites as you like and the hosting fees, I believe, start from around $6-$39 per month. -
I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums. -
Image Browser downloads to wrong folder
I couldn't find a better category for this question than iPhoto. Sorry if there is one.
I just got a Canon powershot A630 camera. it's great. I was using iPhoto to download images and that was fine. But I thought the Image Browser software that came with the camera would offer more functionality. And i guess it does but I'm having a lot of difficulties with it.
I called Canon and spoke with tech support but they just tell me it works for them so it must be my problem. They are using mac 10.4 and I have 10.3.9 so that might be part of it. The Image Browser version is 5.7.
Here's what happens:
I have specified under "Preferences" in the "Camera Window" (that comes up when I connect the camera to the computer) for the images to be downloaded to a folder I created called "Powershot A630" which resides in the Pictures folder. The default location for download is that same Pictures folder. And that's where the images go, NOT to the folder I specified.
I've tried also setting that in the EOS window (which can only be started when the camera is NOT connected to the computer). Still doesn't help.
The Canon guy ran me through a scenario where I "select" pictures for downloading. In this scenario I get a chance to specify the destination, and in fact, it shows the destination I chose in preferences. And it does download to the correct place. But then, where the Image Browser main window lists "favorite" folders, my destination folder is now listed twice. Not desireable I think.
At this point, I think I'll just go back to iPhoto, but if anyone has a solution, or other reasons why I should use Image Browser I'd love to hear.
One more thing. The second Canon guy I talked with took me into "Image capture" utility and had me set the destination folder there. Don't see where that has any bearing on the activity at hand, though.

I love my Canon Powershot A620. The 630 looks
awesome. My Image Browser is version 5.5, and I don't
know what changed with the next versions.
B- Yeah, the a630 is really nice. I previously had an A40 and this is a major step up.
Anyway, the second Canon guy sounds a bit more
knowlegdeable about Macs. The preferences in Image
Capture are where you set which application (or none)
opens automatically when the Mac detects a camera or
card. So if setting it in Image Capture doesn't work,
then I'm not sure what will. I'm afraid I can't
answer your core question here about how to download
to your preferred folder.
B- Thanks for explaining that. It's very clear. I did not understand that from my conversation with the Canon rep.
As for your choice of which app to use, consider
this: Image Browser is just that - an application for
browsing your hard drive and displaying the image
files in various ways. iPhoto is NOT an image
browser. It is a photo organizer with lightweight
editing capabilities and limited version control.
B- That's good to know, too. I was assuming that Imagebrowser was a substitute for iPhoto and I was hoping for increased funcionality. And it does have lots of stuff in it, which was more confusing than anything else.
iPhoto is a database application, so when you use it
you should NOT manipulate items in its library folder
structure from within the Finder.
B- yeah, I had discovered that
With an image
browser you always manipulate the files yourself from
Finder. You alone are responsible for the
organization of your images. With a database you
manipulate your files from inside the application,
and let it take care of the file management
automatically. The two apps are incompatible. If you
import your photos to iPhoto you should not access
them using Image Browser, because you could damage
the library. I know you weren't suggesting combining
the two, I am just trying to highlight the
differences between them.
So ask yourself if you like iPhoto's capabilities. If
you were happy with it before, then there's really no
need to switch to Image Browser. It's like apples and
... cows (oranges are too similar) and the choice is
up to you.
B- the one thing I like so far about imagebrowser is the easy way to view the image full screen. Have not figured out how to do that in iPhoto.
BUT, there is a task inside my Image Browser that I
absolutely LOVE because it does something I can't do
with iMovie. Its called "MovieEdit Task" in
Applications>Image Browser>DVCUtility. It's a great
little thing that lets you take separate video clips
and combine them into one movie. It's much simpler
than iMovie, and optimized to work with your Canon's
video clips. (Whereas iMovie prefers miniDV tape.) It
will allow you to rotate a video clip 90 degrees, so
if you turned the camera on its side to record a
movie clip you can rotate it to portrait view. I have
done this and used the clip in iMovie, and it was
perfect. Without it I would have needed an iMovie
plug-in or had to buy QuickTime Pro.
B- I'll have to look into that. I also have a digital camcorder and have used iMovie. And I'll definitely look into the rotation. My novice friend used my camcorder and shot a bunch of shots of our band with the camcorder rotated 90 degrees.
So, I sometimes use Image Browser due to the way it
handles video clips. Here, it is superior to iPhoto.
But for every day use and for the storage,
organization, and manipulation of my photos, I use
iPhoto (in conjunction with PhotoShop Elements for
real editing).

How to reset my safari browser without opening it on yosemite
last night I booted up my computer to do some work and went to safari, when I tried to open it it gave the the usual "last time safari quit unexpectedly" message and I hit reopen however, it did not solve my problem and another error message popped up. I have tried to delete the app to reinstall it only for my computer to tell me that it is required by os x and cant be tampered with, I am currently using chrome to write this and would be very grateful for a solution. Alternately I can go to an apple store but that is quite far away and I need a fix ASAP!

If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
if it's not already checked. -

The contents of the other file I will spare you cause I think those are less common when I visit other sites but I certainly don't trust the file. The crossdomain.xml I see when I visit most other flashpayer sites as well.
I've also noticed multiple plugin-crossdomain-1.xml and onwards in numbers, I just clicked a youtube video to test, got 6 of them in my temp plus a file named "plugin-read2" (no more NL file cause I changed my country, don't know how youtube knows where I'm from, but that's another subject, don't like that either). I just noticed one with a different code:

So I guess this one comprimises my browsing history a bit less since it doesn't contain a webadress. If these files are even meant to be deposited in my local\temp folder. The bigger problem occurs when they stay there even after using private browsing, after clearing history, after clearing internet temporary files, cache, whatever you can think of. Which they do in my case, got more than 50 plugtmp-# folders in the previous mentioned local\temp folder containing all website names I visited in the last months. There are a variety of files in them, mostly ASP and XML, some just say file. I have yet to witness such a duplicate folder creation since I started checking my temp (perhaps when firefox crashes? I'd say I've had about 50 crashes in recent months).
I started checking my temp because of the following Microsoft Security Essential warnings I received on 23-4-12:

Microsoft Security Essentials informed me that these files were quarantained and deleted but when going to my temp file they were still there, I deleted them manually and began the great quest of finding out what the multiple gigabytes of other files and folders were doing in that temp folder and not being deleted with the usual clearing options within firefox (and IE).
Note that I have set my adobe flasplayer settings to the most private intense I could think of while doing these tests (don't allow data storage for all websites, disable peer-to peer stuff, don't remember exactly anymore, etc.). I found it highly suspicious that i needed to change these settings online on an adobe website, is that correct? When right-clicking a video only limited privacy options are available which is why I tried the website thing.
After the inital discovery of the java exploit (which was discovered by MSE shortly after I installed and started my first scan with Malwarebytes, which in turn made me suspicious whether I had even downloaded the right malwarebytes, but no indication in the filename if I google it). Malwarebytes found nothing, MSE found nothing after it said it removed the files, yet it didn't remove them, manually scanning these jar_cache files with both malwarevytes and MSE resulted in nothing. Just to be sure, I deleted them anyways like I said earlier. No new jar_cache files have been created, no exploits detected since then. CCleaner has cleaned most of my temp folder, I did the rest, am blocking all cookies (except for now shortly), noscript add-on has been running a while on my firefox (V 3.6.26) to block most javascripts except from sites like youtube. I've had almost the same problem using similar manual solutions a couple of months ago, and a couple of months before that (clearing all the multiple tmp folders, removing or renaming jar_cache manually, running various antmalware software, full scan not finding a thing afterwards, installing extra add-ons to increase my security, this time it's BetterPrivacy which I found through a mozilla firefox https connection, I hope, which showed me nicely how adobe flash was still storing LSO's even after setting all storage settings to 0 kb and such on the adobe website, enabling private browsing in firefox crushed those little trolls, but still plugtmp trolls are being created, help me crush them please, they confuse me when I'm looking for a real threat but I still want to use flash, IE doesn't need those folders and files, or does it store them somewhere else?).
I'm sorry for the long story and many questions, hope it doesn't scare you away from helping me fight this. I suspect it's people wanting to belong to the hackergroup Anonymous who are doing this to my system and repeating their tricks (or the virus is still there, but I've done many antivirus scans with different programs so no need to suggest that option to me, they don't find it or I run into it after a while again, so far, have not seen jar_cache show up). Obviously, you may focus on the questions pertaining firefox and plugtmp folders, but if you can help me with any information regarding those exploits I would be extremely grateful, I've read alot but there isn't much specific information for checking where it comes from when all the anti-virus scanners don't detect anything anymore and don't block it incoming. I also have downloaded and installed process monitor but it crashes when I try to run it. The first time I tried to run it it lasted the longest, now it crashes after a few seconds, I just saw the number of events run up to almost a million and lots of cpu usage. When it crashed everything returned back to normal, or at least that's what I'm supposed to think I guess. Well, that's the list i get when checking on your site, when i use my own browseroptions to check add-ons I get a slightly different and longer list including a few I have already turned off (which also doesn't seem very secure to me, what's the point in using your site then for anything other than updates?), here are the differences in MY list:

There's also a Mozilla Default plugin listed there, why does firefox list it there without any further information whether I need it or not or whether it really originates from Mozilla firefox? It doesn't even show up when I use your website plugin checker, so is there no easy way by watching this list for me to determin I can skip worrying about it?
There's also some old ones that I recently deactivated still listed like windows live photo gallery, never remember adding that one either or needing it for anything and as usual, right-clicking and "visit homepage" is greyed out, just as it is for the many java crap add-ons I encountered so far.
Doing a quick check, the only homepage I can visit is the veetle one. The rest are greyed out. I also have several "Java Console" in my extentions tab, I deactivated all but the one with the highest number. Still no Java Console visible though, even after going to start/search "java", clicking java file and changing the settings there to "show" console instead of "hide" (can't remember exact details).
There's some other extentions from noscript, TVU webplayer again, ADblock Plus and now also BetterPrivacy (sidenote, a default.LSO remains after cleanup correct? How do I know that one isn't doing anything nasty if it's code has been changed or is being changed? To prevent other LSO's I need to use both private browsing and change all kinds of restrictions online for adobe flashplayer, can anyone say absurd!!! if you think you're infected and want to improve your security? Sorry that rant was against Adobe, but it's really against Anonymous, no offense). -
ITunes missing from Media Browser -- "open itunes to populate list"
I am on a MacBook Pro 10.7.3 running GarageBand '11 6.0.4 and all of the sudden no tracks will display under Audio in the Media Browser (Photos and Movies still appear). No tracks from either iTunes or GB show up. This is confusing as I have been using GB to make podcast/music mixes for more than 5 years and I haven't changed any settings or done anything different, but now I get the message "open itunes to populate list" or "To see GB songs here, open GB to edit and save your music."
Also, for quite some time I have been unable to go the alternative route of dragging tracks directly from iTunes and dropping them on to the timeline in GB -- that used to work, but mysteriously stopped, so I am dependent on the Media Browser for importing music.
I read thru the forums and tried the advice given to someone this was happening to in Final Cut -- recreating iTunes .xml file. Did that, still no tracks display.
Other advice says to reinstall GB or iLife altogether -- I hope to avoid this, but if I need to go this route, how do I reinstall GB w/o a disk? Can I do it through App Store and will it recognize that I have already purchased it?

Changing Browser to Album Artist?

I've got iTunes 7 on my PC and have a question about Browsing by Album Artist:
Can I change the "browser" (turn-on-and-off-able bit at the top of the main song selecty window) to work off "Album artist" instead of/as well as Artist?
Just to fill in what I already know, and to help people who are confused or stuck with iTunes organising things into folders where they don't want them stored...
I have worked out so far that I can fill in Artist and album artist (as I always did in WMP to keep things organised) so I can put Various Artists or the DJ/Compiler/Record Label in Album Artist, and the actual Artist in the Artist hole.
I also noticed that I need to check "Compliation" to make it store it in my HDD under Album artist so it doesn't confuse the **** out of me by spreading everything around into individual song artist directories and stuffing me live when DJing and looking for a particular "record" using Atomix Virtual DJ (which goes by the file structure in windows).
In the main window view I can sort all music by album artist by clicking on that title in the complete song list of all music, (and it being a "compilation").
Also in the big CD cover browsing view (which is nice btw!) it sorts by album artist. Yay! Marvellous!
However, because I have loads of CDs, sometimes if I'm not having a browse and want to go straight to a CD I'd like to be able to use the 1st or 2nd browser view. If I want a Blue Note Compilation, Various Artists, any of my soundtrack albums, or DJ/Record label compilations I have to scroll all the way up and down the long list. If for example I wanna listen to "Keep it solid Steel" by Mr. Scruff, if I choose him in the artist box it won't have anything off that album as it's a compilation by him, and will only show his own songs. WMP will go by Album Artist (even though it actually says Artist in the left Colum on the new WMP11 beta), but I'd rather use iTunes as it seems faster and nicer generally (and has useful things like the backup option). If iTunes does this it'll definitely be my media player of choice.
If this isn't possible, any chance of iTunes 8 being able to select what options you can sort by at the top of the browser?
The only way I've found is to type "Various", "Warp", "Blue Note", etc. in the search box
It seems very frustrating to me if you can't, especially since like all media players iTunes comes with "Genre" which seems far less useful amongst the widely varying crossover artists, styles, and vibes, that music comes in! I sent a feedback to Apple. Here it is for those of you having the same problem, or who agree, or who don't understand what I'm on about:

I've just changed to using iTunes a few weeks ago as it has some nicer user functions (was previously using windows media player) and it's making me very frustrated...
I store all my albums (well over 10,000 tunes I've collected for YEARS on CD!) by the way they come on the CD; by Track Artist for the Artist and Album Artist for the Album artist. Normally for e.g. Michael Jackson, Artist and Album Artist will be the same. For compilation/DJ mix ablums this means the Album Artist will be Various Artists, the DJ/Production Crew, or Record label as applicable. If, for example, I want to listen to my Jazzanova Remixes album I can sort by album artist, choose Jazzanova, and get all the tunes on that album, whilst artist points out who each individual track is by (that Jazzanova remixed). Likewise, if I scroll to "various artists" in album artist I'll get compilation albums, or a particular DJ/collective such as by Mr. Scruff, Blue Note records compilations, etc., etc.
Also this applies to artists where the album may be one artist, but each song artist may be that artist + another, e.g. Artist being Eminem & Dr Dre, Eminem & Dido, Eminem (feat. Joe Bloggs), etc., whilst the Album remains filed under the "Album Artist" of Eminem so I don't get millions of "X with/featuring Y" artists and spreading my albums out in a big mess.
The problem of iTunes filing them in different artist folders for each track on that album on my harddrive can be overcome by making them a "compilation", then it seems to store in Compilation instead.
However, it seems to insist on filing secondarily by artist, not track number/and album, when album artist is selected. This then messes the list up completely as, if I use the artists "Coldcut" as an example, when I go to Coldcut as an album artist it displays the beginning of the "Journeys by DJ" album by coldcut (album artist) from "track artists" alphabetically A->C until it gets to the Coldcut songs on it, then has a completely different coldcut album (Sound Mirrors) of which all tracks are written by Coldcut and the album artist is Coldcut, then finishes the "Journeys by DJ" album by coldcut with the rest of the track artists from Coldcut->Z!
The only way around this seems to be to file by album, then scroll all the way through loads of tunes to get to that particular album, defeating the idea of an easily organised music collection!
This problem is made worse by the fact if I have "browse by compilations" on to help, and use the browser at the top, Artist only chooses by track artist. I then need to go to Compilations and (assuming I remember it's called "Journeys by DJ" since I can't go straight to Compilation Artist) click on the album, from a list of all my "various artist" and DJ/remix/record label compilations.
At this point it gets worse as having chosen the album (for the sake of this example "Journeys by DJ" by Coldcut) all the tracks then appear in track artist alphabetical order since it's either still being browsed by Album Artist as I would have had my records diplayed by that to begin with and it sorts secondarily by track Artist. Alternatively it could be sorted by (track) "Artist" since I'd browsing by compilation. Regardless since I would have narrowed it down to one album with the browser function so "album artist" will all be the same for all tracks, it makes no difference - it is going to be listed alphabetically by track artist.
This means therefore, that unless the album is alphabetically sorted by artist to begin with it comes up in the wrong order!!! Therefore when you play your lovely expertly DJ mixed compiation you bought on CD all the crossfades between tracks don't happen as the album's in the wrong order!!!
You can get around this by then clicking displaying "Track number" too. This seems silly though as normally in a normal view it already shows them at the front of the track listing. You therefore have to have them displayed twice, and then after going into compilations, choosing the album, you then have to sort by track number each time! If you do this, whenever you go back to the rest of your albums they then have all the track 1's first, then all the track 2's, and again you have to change what you sort by (Album Artist or Artist) to make them sensible again!
As you can imagine this is a pain! It happens with all my Various Artist albums, and various other DJ artists such as Mr. Scruff, and soundtrack albums, or record label compilations too!
The obvious possible answers to this problem are:
a) when sorting by the column "Album Artist" make it search secondarily, after Album Artist, by album then track number, then finally "(track) Artist" after that (in case there are no track numbers!).
b) make "artist" in the browser search by "Album Artist" not artist. This is what Windows Media Player does (even though it actually says "Artist" in the broswer), and goes by track "Artist" if there is nothing in the "Album Artist" tag field. it will then search by album and track number, but not Album artist followed by Artist. The browser could also be set to search in both Artist and Album Artist fields to save me having to go through all my 40+ compilations to find an album I know is by coldcut or Mr Scruff. If it did I could just turn "Browse by Compilation" off in preferences and get the same effect. Regardless to stop the wrong ordering it needs to not organise by Artist secondarily if I have it organised by album artist.
Whether the "Artist" in the broswer does Artist/Album Artist/or both could be set in preferences? Also this could change it to file in folders on the harddrive by Album Artist too. I'd far rather have my Coldcut, Jazzanova, & Mr. Scruff, etc. albums in Coldcut, Jazzanova, & Mr. Scruff directories, so when I browse my harddrive it's obvious who they are by rather than apparently being by "Compilation"!
Regardless iTunes should try to put things in the library view in order of Album and track number as much as possible when I have it organised by Album Artist. As mentioned I had been using WMP 10 & 11 beta until recently, but I changed as iTunes seems to work faster and smoother, and has the handy backup feature and seemless playback so I made the shift. The seamless playback made me instantly go to try DJ mix albums to hear them seamless, hence why I became frustrated very quickly!
Also I intend to get a Mac as my next computer so I won't have the option of WMP!
Another thing I noticed was the "Remember position" tag under the "get info" section when you have multiple selections. I wondered if this could change the order it plays them in but didn't seem to do anthing and can't find mention of it in the help or on the forum! What's that for?
If I'm being stupid and there's an easy way to make it work let me know, but I've tried as many things as I can think of, but I think it's reasonable not to have to keep changing the way everything is displayed in the library view to find an album and play it in the right order. I want it to work like the pile of CDs on my shelves and appear as I got them in the record store! If not Microsoft might have finally made something that seems to work in a more user friendly way than Apple, and that can't be right!
...as you can see I also pointed out that it might be nice to be able to get iTunes to file my Mr. Scruff, Coldcut, Jazzanova, etc. compilation/DJ albums on my hard drive by the Artist who released them (or by "various artists"); the same place I'd find them in the record shop I bought them from, and the main name on the album cover of the CD!
I DJ too (using Virtual DJ) and hence DO care about where I find these files on my hard drive, and would like to be able to find them based on the Album Artist! Also when I copy tunes over to my MP3 player, again I want them filed like the CDs I bought them on! I'm not just wingeing about this point for no reason. Obviously you don't care where they actually are stored on your HDD if it's only ever iTunes you play files with, and own an iPod where it automatically copies files for you, but it makes a big difference to me! -
Browser Fill does not work at all...

I am veryfrustrated at the moment, and maybe I am missing something, but I cannot get the browser fill to apply any type of image at all. I am working on MAC OSX Mountain Lion, I have started numerous new sites with the same result. I am designing a site for a tablet. When I select Browser Fill and navigate to a file I would like as a background, select it and nothing happens. I have tried all different types of files, .jpg's, .gif's, .png's, .bmp's and tried changing the setting in the browser fill menu such as fill, fit and original size, and also the alighnment. I get nothing. It also does nothing on phone layout, but supprisingly it will place and fill on Desktop Layout.
Is there something I'm missing? I am so confused.
Thanks in advance for any help.As with the Desktop layout, there is a page on top of the browser fill. Depending on your design, you may want to use a page fill instead (since the browser fill seldom shows on tablets/phones if the page fill is opaque) or set the page fill to none so the browser fill shows through.

Loops appear twice in the loop browser. Huh?
I just installed iLife '06 and have been "messing around" with the various programmes. One thing I noticed was that exactly the same loops appear twice in the loop browser. Not all loops are doubled, which is obviously what is confusing me. Is this normal (not my confusion!!)?
I've checked the folder in the library and each loop is only available once, but GarageBand insists on having two of quite a number of loops. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, as I haven't found any way to delete just one of the loops (deleting the file obviously deletes both . . .)

G5 Dual 2.3, G4 Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.3)Do you really have only one copy of each? Do a Finder/Spotlight search. There are several places where the loops could show up:
- the general Library/Audio folder
- the user Library/Audio folder
- the general Library/Application Support folder
- the User Library/Application Support folder
Did you install over an old version of GB? That might explain the duplicate loops. And the "single" loops that were either part of your old installation and not of GB3 or vice versa.
In order to repair that, you should trash the duplicate loops and the content of the Loops Index folder and then drag the remaining loops into the loop browser. -
Why is it when previewing in browser from DW, the page
displays correctly, but from there when navigating to other pages
using the menu, those pages "styles" are not displaying correctly?

DMYou are being confused by a) not understanding root relative
vs document
relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews
files.
If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like
this -
<img src="/images/foo.gif"...
That's what's called a root relative link.
If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the
document, sees
the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive,
since the
browser has no idea where the root of the site is. Thus, the
image is
broken in the preview.
If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert
the file being
previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the
browser. This temp
file has had all root relative links converted to document
relative links
(as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and
has had all
include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all
external CSS
and js markup embedded in the page. In other words, DW has
made the
document into a stand-alone page.
If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links
would be broken on
preview.
Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp
files enabled,
AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of
your links will
be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp
file. This is
what you are seeing.
So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use
document
relative links for the site -
<img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
These will still work on preview since the browser knows how
to determine
the current file's location and how to follow that path.

I'm suddenly in need of help with my Firefox browser (6.0.2)
(OS: I use Windows XP).
When I open up the browser, all I see is a completely blank white screen, with all the toolbars at the top.
I know that my physical connections are fine: I've tested the modem, turned the pc off and on etc. and I can also receive/send emails.
This problem started today, 8th September, 2011 and has never happened before.
Is it a coincidence that Firefox updated itself just before I logged off yesterday evening? Could it be something to do with this particular new update?
I've also noted that just before I "open up" Firefox, I now get a small box saying:
[JAVASCRIPT APPLICATION]
Exc In Ev handl: TypeError: This oRoot.enable is not a function
This has never appeared before - I hope it offers a clue a to what is wrong.
The Browser is not stuck in Safe Mode, by the way.
Obviously, I can't search for any solutions to the problem on the internet, as I can't physically see any websites!

Any light you could throw on this confusing problem would be much appreciated. I'd rather not have to uninstall and reinstall Firefox if possible.
If the only option is to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it from your site, then I'm also in trouble (I can't see the internet or make any downloads).

Many thanks in advance.A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
