Browser crash after keychain access update

Question

one day i turned on my computer and it prompted me to change my keychain settings. i clicked ok, and ever since then, my computer has been acting unusual.
first of all, every time i turn on the computer it takes much longer than usual to load everything, and there is a blank blue screen which appears during that process, for several seconds.
the most frustrating problem is that whenever i go online my browser (both safari and firefox) hang, and then crash, when i try to access my email (and all other secure sites, i think).
i went online to research the issue and someone recommended that i delete my keychain file in order to access the secure sites. i did that, but next time i logged onto my wireless network it had lost my password, so i had to re-enter that. once i re-launced the browser, the same thing happened - it crashed every time.
please help!

I found I had issues when using automatic proxy configuration and automatic proxy discovery in my network settings. I'd double check to see if these are enabled by looking in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxy.
