Browser Disappears; Tabs Attempt To Close
I have two recurring issues, and I wonder whether they are related.
First, my browser periodically will just disappear. I understand that sometimes by scrolling down the "show desktop" button on the lower right corner of the screen can get touched which will hide the browser but this will happen when I'm not even near the scroll bar, and when I doublecheck the "show desktop" button just to see if my browsing page will reappear it does not. I think my disappearing browser is unrelated to any inadvertent hitting of the "show desktop" button.
Second, I often have two or three tabs open, and out of the blue will get the warning message that I am about to close multiple tabs even when I was not attempting to close anything, and I was nowhere near the x-out button on the upper right corner of the screen.
I'd appreciate any insight that folks may have with respect to either or both of these issues. My gut tells me they're probably related but I wouldn't know.
I've done multiple virus scans with trend micro and malwarebytes with negative results.
Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.

Attempting to close a tab results in duplicate tabs opening up in browser
Hi everyone! A couple of months ago I purchased a Logitech M310 wireless mouse. It's been working great so far. The other day I noticed something really weird. I use the middle-click button to open links in new tabs or to close existing tabs. When I attempted to close an existing tab, what ended up happening was that the tab duplicated itself. When I closed those tabs, they duplicated themselves. And so on and so forth. I used the middle-click button as well as the left button to close the tabs. After closing 10-12 tabs, I'm then finally able to close the window.
Visual example:
[tab a][tab b] *attempts to close tab b. results in duplicate.*
[tab a][tab b][tab b] *attempts to close both tab b*
[tab a][tab b][tab b][tab b][tab b] *tries again but they're amoebas*
[tab a][tab b][tab b][tab b][tab b][tab b][tab b]
My mouse settings are correct and I checked my computer for viruses as well as spyware. All clean. I'm not sure what is wrong so any input would be great!ya I'm aware of the shortcut keys. Been using a mac since they came out. She is used to interaction with the mouse, hence the specific question as to where the X has gone.

Firefox did an automatic update to 6.01, and now my middle mouse button is not working in the browser. It doesn't close tabs, it doesn't open new tabs by middle clicking a link, it doesn't allow me to middle click to scroll the page..
[BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
I hope this helps!
EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:
https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/1406
EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful! -
After my last Windows update I have been unable to save my tabs once I close FF. I choose the save tabs option on closing the browser but upon reopening it goes to my homepage and the saved tabs are gone.
Thanks cor-el but that is not the case unless something is clearing History automatically. I think that's set for a long time (30 days +) prior to clearing the cache. I checked on the off chance that 'today was the day' but I've plenty of cached sites in my History.
I'd suspected something in the Windows Updates but then the problem would be more viral and apparently I'm the only one 'suffering' from it. -
I have been running Chrome from several versions back when Firefox became very slow. I am now trying to switch back to Firefox. I have 27.0.1. My bookmarks toolbar disappears every time I close the browser. I have tried all recommendations I can find including reset and renaming, etc, but nothing has cured the problem. Restore to default used to work for the current session, but now that does not work. I am about to give up and stick with Chrome as this bookmark toolbar issue is driving me nuts. I am about to try uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling. And that will be my last resort unless I get a solution to this problem. I have been a Firefox user from the very beginning up till 16 or 17 and like Firefox, but this seems to be a common occurrence from my research. BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR IS A MUST HAVE!
Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
#Use <u>one</u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#*Click the Firefox button to open the menu and click on Bookmarks.
#*Click the Bookmarks menu and click on Show All Bookmarks.
# At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
# Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
# In the new window that appears, click OK.
# Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.

my computer has the Tor program loaded , i only managed to actually view Tor one time , the next several days , I go to log on to Tor , it brings up the private browsing screen after I click on the purple tab that says private browsing , the tab is purple but never said firefox , even when I know firefox has been downloaded , I am running Windows 7 Ultimate , never had this sort of problem before , but here is the most frustrating issue , while I have no problem getting to the 'private browsing' , the screen the tells me I am in 'private browsing' , simply stalls , and I cannot get beyond that screen , in other words , I can never actually get on to Tor.
So , whats the deal ??? .... Help !!!Hi,
You can download Tor + Firefox here: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en
Support
After extracting you can try to browse to the extracted folder and start the Tor Firefox directly. Please note that though Tor uses Firefox as its browser, it is a customized one and is separate from the original Mozilla Firefox. So if you have Mozilla Firefox installed, you would have two Firefox versions and you have to start the correct version or you can start and use both. Usually Mozilla Firefox would be listed in the start menu as Mozilla Firefox.

FF31: When I only have one tab open, even a blank one, and close the tab the window closes.
Type about:config in the Location bar and hit Enter.
Accept the warning.
browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab
double-click to toggle to false and then restart Firefox.
Now if you close the last tab the window (or Firefox) won't close, but a New Tab will be there. -
Firefox will open and then "freeze" (Says Firefox not responding). Have to attempt to close from lower bar and then get message from Windows - options
1. close window now
2. windows will search for the reason
When I click on either option I have to wait "magically" Firefox will "pop" alive. May stay responsive for full session or may again "not respond" when I try to access another site.I have also found that unchecking the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option solves this issue. This option is in the Advanced section, under the General tab.

Many features have disappeared. There is no back button to go to the previous page. There is no "most frequently visited" icon on the toolbar. I am not asked if I want to save all my tabs when I close firefox. There is no recently bookmarked tab on the toolbar. Everything takes longer to get to. The tabs don't automatically stay open.
Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
Another possibility is to use:
* Firefox (Tools) > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
Do you still have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible?
* Restore the default Smart Bookmarks Folders
Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
Make sure that you have the Bookmarks Toolbar and the Navigation Toolbar visible: "View > Toolbars"
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
* If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
* If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

Tab Limit Reached, Can't Open A New Tab Until You Close One.
How do I close the tabs?Asus doesn't make the iPad. Is this some other tablet?
Sounds like you have maxed out the browser windows. In the browser app, press the menu or overflow bottom to see if there is an window/tabs options. There you should see a thumbnail image of each tab you have opened and in the corner of each should be a X or minus symbol that you touch to close that tab/window. -
FF 28.0a1....I can open tabs in Win XP and close them with no problems.
In Win 7 I can open tabs but cannot close them until i shut down FF completely.
I have completely uninstalled FF28.0a1 and reinstalled it into a new folder with a new profile. Still the same problem exists. No this is NOT an older version of FF.
It is the very latest Nightly version (Ver 28.0a1)
It works fine in Win XP.

Hidden tab won't close, constantly loading.
There's a tab on my Firefox that doesn't show on the window. It seems to be a tab that was previously open, that I thought I'd closed. While it doesn't show on the window, the tab preview when I mouse over it in the windows taskbar shows that the tab is still open. When I click the x in the preview, the tab won't close. Also on mousing over the tab, it shows that the page is blank, but it seems as though it is loading something. It may or may not be causing my computer to run slower than usual, but I can't be sure. Either way, it's annoying and the only way I can get rid of it is by restarting my browser, but even then after using the browser for a while another tab like that shows up and I run the same problem. How do I close a tab like this?
Extra notes:
The tab is not open from the start. It is not a homepage, as my homepage is set to about:blank, and opening a homepage upon starting my browser is disabled.
The tab is not visible on the Firefox window. It is only visible on the windows preview when mousing over the Firefox application in the windows taskbar. You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with preferences and rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default value.

I have just opened email. There is one email. When I click to open I receve the message "Sorry, you've reached the maximum number of open tabs. Please close a few tabs first before opening additional tabs." How can I have too many tabs? Does anyone else receive this message? What do you do to get to read your email?
Wow, never heard of that one before, is this on your Mac or an iDevice?
Or is this WebMail in a Browser?

With multi tabs open I go to close Firefox 5.0 and it will not keep the tabs there it closes all tabs so when I restart I have to re-open the tabs. I was using 3.6 firefox and had the option to close but keep the tabs so they would open when I re-started firefox.
upgrade your browser to Firefox 8 and check

I just updated to Firefox 4.0. I made NO changes to existing settings. After updating, font size of BROWSER headings, tabs, etc. appear so small that I am barely able to read them. (Note that I am NOT talking about font size on web pages--just on browser itself. ) Have used firefox for years--don't want to give it up--but will have to if can't find a solution for this.
I don't know where it is going to look. As I did all the Orthoptera, haing to go to the source of every page, andchanging the links to the moths to the Orthoptera, I had to do the same with other Oders. Now I am on the Diptera, and went to the previously created Orthoptera gallery and changed the text and link from Orthoptera to Diptera. But it still shows text and link, moth, instead. So I continue to have to go to each pages source coded and change individually.
Here is what I don't understand. When I go to the folder that is at C://program files/adobe/adobe photoshop cs4 (64 bit)/presets/web photo gallery, the renamed, copied and modified folder, Diptera is there, and come up in the choices of templates. But the text and link modifications don't occur when the gallery is run. Where could it be going to get the moth stuff, when it goes to this folder for the template?
What you said about the 64 bit makes sense, but I don't know where it could be going to create the gallery when the folder named Diptera is ther.
