Browser drags with ads. pdf link fails.

web sites are filled with adds, mouse has little or very delayed response, clicking on link to pdf file (as in a statement) fails with error message indicating web issue, but all web sites have same problem.  Either there is a virus infection or some obscure setting is way off.  Spent HOURS trying to trblshoot.  Ran Norton scans and power clean.  No improvement.  This is all happening in VISTA home premium.  This is not happening on a macbook with same web sites.

attached images.  Each time I load a web page (including this one) I have no control until the malware or whatever embeds links into the page, normally words that are double-underlined, also videos.  Once those are in place, I can scroll the page and use my mouse to select items.

  • When interactive pdf opens in browser window can the pdf links open in separate windows

Problem is the pdf works ok when it opens in the browser window, BUT the links in the pdf don't open in separate browser windows, as they do when the pdf is downloaded as a file.
If pdf links can only open in separate browser window when the pdf itself opens as a separate file, the how do I email a pdf download link on a website.

    Hello Yesh,
you can open PDFs as a guest user (without authentification):
    1. Allow Guest Access (Admin -> Security Configuration -> Check "Allow Guest Access" and select a folder name).
    2. Copy your Report into this guest folder
    3. You can open the Report as PDF with a link like this:
    http://(bip-server-name):9704/xmlpserver/(guest-folder-name)/(report-name)/(report-name).xdo?_xpt=0&_xf=pdf&_xmode=4(&report-parameters)
Just replace the strings in brackets. You find a great description of the URL parameters in Tim Dexters Blog
    http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2006/07/accessing_xmlp_enterprise_repo.html
I didn't find an option to set the height of the PDF-Output for the guest user in the BIP-UI. Maybe I missed something. But you can manually edit the configuration file. It is located on your BIP server direcory in the subdirectory xmlp/XMLP/Users. Select the guest users subdirectory and edit the configuration file "user~.profile".
In this XML config file there is an entry "viewerHeight". In the Value-Tag you can enter the PDF output windows height in pixel (but unfortunaly not in % - this was the question of my original posting).
    Hope that helps...

  • Browser freezes with opening PDF.

Have tried with AA9 and AA8 on VISTA and Win7. The PDF link in the page http://vtechworks.lib.vt.edu/handle/10919/25886 is locking up most browsers (IE, FireFox, and SeaMonkey), though it has worked in some cases. The page can be downloaded (right click) and opened in Acrobat, but it will not open correctly in the browser. Some other ETDs at the site in PDF form do open correctly, but not all. Any thoughts?

No problem with Acrobat 11 in Safari on Mac OS X 10.9.2. Opens fine in the browser, downloads fine.

  • Web browser overrun with ads

Running an old 2010 Macbook Pro, been using Google Chrome as my default browser. Went through a lapse in judgement and downloaded a ".dmg" file off of torrent site that was supposed to be a video file, of course it turned out to load an "MPlayerX" and no video file included. Now any browser I use is overrun with ads, pop ups, pop under, new tabs that open ad sites, google search has ads at the top, bottom and side of the page. Even some sites have words highlighted in green and underlined to take you to an ad site if you click them.
I'm on Chrome right now running an adblocker and even on this site it's showing a few ads blocked but still some are getting through, mainly new tabs randomly popping up. I've since gone through and cleaned out every mention of the aforementioned torrent file I downloaded, I've reset each browser, and shut down the laptop a few times and still the ads keep coming.
I thought Macs were supposed to be immune to this sort of thing but clearly I've done something terribly wrong. Any one have a way to clear whatever is running out of my computer?

This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

  • PDF Link Not Working - Can't Isolate the Issue

I have a unique issue I can't figure out. The trouble
shooting I have done so far is this: (1) I've recreated my Topic
several times using old topics that work, ones in version control,
ones not in version control, blank ones, and even from scratch as a
New Project. (2) I've recreated my Word Doc and PDF. (3) I've
uninstalled Robo Help 5 and reinstalled it. (4) I've uninstalled
then reinstalled Adobe. (5) I've uninstalled then reinstalled MS
Office. After reinstalling all of the above, I created the Topic
    yet another time.
I took an existing Project which was initially created in v4
with a PDF Link created in Word then converted to a PDF in Word.
This topic was not in version control and I copied it onto my Local
Drive. From my Local Drive, I modified the Topic to include all of
my new information. I left the original PDF Link, however, to test
    it. Here are the results:
    A) The original PDF Link still operates just fine. It
launches the PDF with no problem.
    B) The new PDF Links I am trying to create refuse to work no
matter what I do. WHY? When I click on the PDF Link in my compiled
CHM, I get an Internet Explorer Window with an error that the "Page
cannot be displayed". I have tried this on a network drive and on a
    local drive.
Are there any ideas or suggestions? Linking a PDF does not
require rocket science. I have done dozens of them over the past
couple years and never had this issue. All of my other hyperlinks
are working just fine (ie to external CHMs) - just not to PDF or
    DOC files.
1 thing I did notice which is why I uninstalled then
reinstalled everything: I found the new option inside Word of
ROBOPDF, and that is what I initially used. When I noticed a
coworker did things differently, I decided to delete that,
reinstall it all, then created the PDF the old way through the PDF
Maker toolbar in Word. I got the same results.
Please, please email me if possible:

  • Pdf link in Safari

    Good morning,
I have problems with pdf link in Safari. Tapping on them they don't work.
    Thanks for the support.
    Danilo

You may like to experiment with this manually first, if it works then finalize it in a script:
    1) manually login to you secure site.
    2) copy the URL address
    3) launch Terminal and type in:
    '/System/Library/Automator/Get Link URLs from Webpages.action/Contents/Resources/links' 'http://the.copied.URL'
replace http://the.copied.URL with real URL, it should return a list of links in the URL.
    4) If the PDF links is in it, then you'll try to download it using curl command, still in Terminal; type in:
    /usr/bin/curl 'http://path.to.PDF.URL' -o ~/foo.pdf
replace http://path.to.PDF.URL with the pdf link, and with any luck you download you PDF to your home folder.

  • Strange behaviour in Chromium browser with PDF links

I am using the Chromium browser from the repository (v4.0.249) and xpdf as my PDF reader. xpdf launches fine from Firefox and Opera when clicking a PDF link in a website. Before I had Chromium set as my default browser Chromium would actually launch Firefox(!) and then FF would load the PDF document into xpdf. That in itself is strange. Now that I have Chromium set as my default browser (using "export BROWSER=/usr/bin/chromium" in ~/.bash_profile) when I click a PDF link Chromium opens a new tab and gives me this error:
    This webpage is not found.
No webpage was found for the web address: file:///home/larry/Downloads/Hardware
The Downloads directory is where all my downloads go. Any ideas on how to set up Chromium to use xpdf properly would be greatly appreciated. I went to the Chromium forum and there was a similar query with no response as of yet.

    Works for me™
Do PDFs open in the right app if you open them with 'xdg-open path/to/pdf/file' ?
    Edit:
I forgot to mention that I haven't set any "special" environment variables before using chromium.

  • PDF-to-PDF link works online, fails on CD

We publish multi-part PDF docs on the web and on CD. Inside them are occasional placeholder pages for large maps, with the text CLICK HERE TO VIEW linked to an external file, also a PDF. We make the links with AA's Link tool. (Draw a rectangle around the text, Open File, browse to the map file, etc., you know the drill.) We’ve done this for years, but recently:
    - Clicking the link from the local file finds the map just fine.
    - Posting the doc and map to the web, opening the doc online (IE), and clicking the link in it for the map works fine.
    - Burning the webpage, doc, and map to a CD in the exact same configuration puts up a Security Warning box when we click the map’s link inside the document. The box says the doc is trying to connect to [map's path (correct path)] and offers responses of Help, Allow, or Block. Clicking the obvious ‘Allow’ has no effect!
The CD setup has worked fine for years but now suddenly fails. Is there some parameter in IE that's wound too tight?
I've posted a sample of how it works. To see it, open the first doc linked on http://www.speakeasy.org/~mtangard/test/example.htm and click the red CLICK HERE.. link on page 5 or page 7.
Using Acrobat 9 Pro and IE 8.0.6. Grateful for any clues....

    Dump the web page.
For deployment of PDF collections on optical storage media (OSM) avoid "entry" to the collection(s) from an HTML file on the OSM.
Rather, always provide a "start" PDF that is on the root of the OSM.
This avoids having to rely on the end-user's browser or browser version or one software house's updates gobbering another house's application.
Provided the PDFs are not PDF Packages, Acrobat 9 Portfolios, or Acrobat X Portfolios end-users with Adobe Reader / Acrobat back to version 5.x can use the PDFs in a reliable manner.
n.b., if a Cataloged Index or tiered indices are utilized users of version 5.x are 'locked out' as the licensed search engine/index builder was changed in version 6.x
Create a staging "burn zone" on a local machine's HDD.
Identified the common "parent" directory/folder that exists on the web deployment.
At the provided web space example this would be directory/folder "fier".
    --| feir
    .... file: exec_summ.pdf
    .... --| figs
    ....  .... file: fig_es-1.pdf
    ~
    ~
When a link path traverses through directories/folders on its passage to a target file this very specific "path" must be maintained when a file collection is transfered.
True for a transfer of files to other web space, network space, other local machines, USB device, or OSM (any format - PDF, HTML, whatever).
    ~
    ~
So, with the parent "feir" and its child content present in the 'burn zone' what goes to OSM will contain functional links.
A Windows autorun file on the OSM root affords the possibility of calling Adobe Reader from the local machine to render the "start" PDF.
If, for the PDFs in the 'burn zone, a Catalog Index has been created then associate the PDX file to the 'start' PDF.
With it all on an OSM, the user has a mounted PDX as soon as the 'start' PDF is opened. This supports "anytime" use of Advanced Search.
n.b., newer releases of Acrobat / Adobe Reader can be expected to provide a security dialog when the PDX is accessed.
    Be well...

  • Pdf links will not open in new browser window

I have created a pdf document in Acrobat 9 Pro that is password protected. You must enter the password to open it. In this document there are perhaps 15 links to other pdf documents. I set up each of the links to open in a new window. The links work as expected in Acrobat, each opening in a new window, however, when I posted the documents to the web, the links open in the same window as the original document. This would not be a big issue if the original document were not password protected, but each time the user clicks on a link, it takes him out of the original document. To get back to the original document requires re-entering the password. This is a major irritation with so many links.
I know that you can set Acrobat to display the documents in its own window rather than in the browser, but my users don't know that. Control clicking on a pdf link does not open it in a new window as it would with an HTML link. Is there a simple fix to this problem that does not involve user intervention?

Well, I came up with a solution, thanks to Ted Padova who offers a simple JavaScript solution on his blog at http://www.acrobatusers.com/blogs/tedpadova/opening-pdfs-new-browser-windows.
The solution is clearly laid out even for beginners, if you know how to create a link or button.
It seems to me that a prime objective of Adobe in developing Acrobat would be to have it behave the same way in free-standing mode and as a plug-in. In this case it does not, and obviously, it has not for the last forty-eleven years that Acrobat has been on the market. Maybe some day they will get around to a fix for this obvious problem. In the meantime, read Ted's blog and be happy we have guys like him who can solve these problems.

  • Problem with opening PDF files in Google Chrome browser

We have a web page displaying links to dynamically generated PDF files located on the internal repository. This files are not just text PDF files but PDF forms created using XFA technology. This means that they must be opened and filled only in Adobe Reader and not in Foxit Reader or browser's built-in PDF viewer.
Now, the problem is that a Google Chrome browser opens any PDF file using its own PDF viewer. And I want to force this browser to open PDF files in Adobe Reader.
How can I achieve this without disabling 'Chrome PDF Viewer' plugin since I can't do this for all users of our web site?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    P.S. We use LiveCycle ES3.

  • PDF link of type "open a file" won't work from within web-browser

    Hi!
I have a pdf-document in which I have created a link of the type "Open a file" ( in this case it is a word document, but the type of file doesn't matter).  When I click this link directly in Acrobat (Acrobat 9 Standard) it works just as excpected, that is, the document opens in word, after I've confirmed to Acrobat that it's ok to open.
Opening the pdf itself from within a web-browser (IE8) is no problem. The document is opened by the Acrobat plug-in, inside the web-browser, as expected. The "hot-spot" to the link is also there, but when I click on the link, Acrobat (I think it's Acrobat and not the web-browser) asks me if it's ok to "Connect to file://///C:/testdoc.doc". And when I confirm this nothing happens (of course, since there are way too many slashes added after the "File:" beginning of the string.
When I doublecheck the link in Acrobat Standard with the link tool, it look perfectly allright (under "Actions" I find the heading "Open a file" and under that the text "File: C\testdoc.doc").
Anyone know where the problem lies?
    Thanks for any help!

I found mention online that linking to a zipped pdf file will cause the browser to download the PDF to the local user's PC where they can complete and submit the form (the mailto: command button works when the PDF is opened locally rather than within a browser window).  If there is a more "elegant" solution, I would be grateful for your advice.

Most of the time, when I hit a link, it opens but tabs with ads or pages that I didn't ask for are opening also and they come up on top. I have to dump them to get to the link I originally hit. How can I stop this from happening? It's so irritating and they take a while to come up before I can close them. Note: I use Firefox for Mac OS

You can stop that behavior by changing two settings within the browser. Go to Tools -> Options and click on the CONTENT button. Make sure that "Block pop-up windows" is checked. Then click on the ADVANCED button on the far right and add a check to "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload".
That should stop most of them. If not all, then you could install AdBlock Plus add-on, since most of the redirects are ad generated. (Tools -> Add-ons -> Get Add-ons)

I'm using IE8x64 with Adobe Reader installed, I noticed that in the IE8 x64 addons there is no plugin pdf link helper to open the PDF documents in the browser, but it opens web links directly in the program. Is there any way to add the addons in x64 browser?

Thanks for the tip, Bob. This worked! I will need to check and see if all the graphical features came through - there are not very many.
