Browser freezes

My browser freezes. I have An HP computer. I have Windows7---
64 bites. I was using IE8, so I upgraded to IE9. It also freezes. So
I installed Firefox, same thing. I have a NetWork, and on that
Computer the Browser does not freeze. I think this would show
that the problem is being caused by something in the computer.
 I hate
to reinstall, and do all that work, but might have to. Anyone else
who has had and solved this problem, I would appreciate some
help. Model # p6654y Thank You

  • In Firefox 31.0 a bug makes the browser freeze, and then I can't close tabs anymore, what may solve this?

Good afternoon. With the newest update of Firefox for PC (31.0), I have a problem that occurs almost every time I use the browser.
When trying to close a tab, it sometimes cause the browser to freeze during one minute.
Then a dialog-box appears on the screen. It says that the script "chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:2004" may be busy.
I can choose between two buttons in this dialog-box.
"Continue" which keeps the script running, in theory; though it just closes the dialog-box, makes the browser freeze again, and then the same dialog-box shows up.
"Stop the script" which ends the freeze; but then I'm unable to close tabs (I can still close the browser).
I also noticed that, when the freeze occurs, the content of the tab I tried to close changes to "New Tab".
When I restart the browser, I am able to close tab again, until the freeze shows up again.
The problem started to appear only when I updated Firefox to the 31.0 version (and I didn't add any browser extension in the meanwhile).
Does anyone have an idea of what I could do to avoid the problem? Thank you very much and have a good day!

In the immediate future you can try noscript or flashblock addons to block that script.
However upon more research in searching the current Firefox codebase: [http://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/search?q=tabbrowser.xml&case=false] it seems to be referenced in there, but I do not see a reference to the port associated. The port is usually used for media. I would not know how to start to troubleshoot this, but are there any consistent steps/webpages that cause this to start?
Does this happen in Safe Mode, please see [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]? And does it happen in a fresh install?

  • I cannot right click without the browser freezing for at least 3-5 seconds. I disabled add-ons and reset firefox - same issue.

I can't right click anywhere in the browser without the browser freezing for at least 3-5 seconds.
    I disabled all the add-ons.
    I reset firefox.
    issue is still there.

  • Browser freeze in Windows 7 x64

Anytime I try to view a webpage that uses flash, my browser freezes. It doesnt matter if I am using firefox or opera, same issue.
I have 0 other add-ons running in my browser.
    All firewalls/anti-virus are disabled.
I have re-installed both flash and my browsers multiple times.
Flash still crashes when running firefox in safe-mode.
Please help, I have looked everywhere for a solution... and still nothing.

What version of Flash Player do you have installed?
Firefox: in normal mode it freezes, and in safe mode it crashes - is that correct?
When it freezes, can you open Task Manager - Processes tab, and see if anything uses high CPU or high I/O on the system?

  • Any Browser freezes when trying to add image finder pop-up

Since updating to Mavericks, whenever I try to add images etc in ANY Browser, the finder popup freezes when I select Desktop for the image.
I have found a work around, I created a folder, I called Images on the desktop, and when I copy any images etc into that folder, I can select the folder, and the contents to add to browser etc.
This also works if I copy image to any other sidebar folder, ie documents.
Sometimes works off desktop if I reboot imac, for a while.
This is very annoying, and has only happened since 10.9 update
I have to Force Quit on the browser, to continue using that Browser
Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Camino, all the same. (Latest versions)

I wasn't referring to this forum, but I've just tried to add image to this post , and the same problem shows.
Choosing Desktop from finder pop-up sidebar, browser freezes then I have to force quit.
Select any other sidebar item, including my folder "Image" from Desktop, works fine !!
Funnily enough, because this forum adds image into the message, I can drag & Drop image here !!!
But only in compose window, when I post message, the image disappears !
    However, this dooesn't bother me.
My problem is with forums where images are added by an extra input below message body

  • Browser freezing up when clicking Monitor - Access Points

Is there anyone else having problems with the browser freezing up when (in Classical Mode) clicking Monitor -> Access Points? Clicking Configure -> Access Points works as it should. Sometimes the browser unfreezes after a while but no output is displayed on the page.
We're running Cisco Prime Infrastructure version 1.3 (in HA-mode if that makes a difference but the problem exists even after failing over).
I've tried Chrome, IE9 and Firefox 19.0.2 and the problem exists in all of them.

I know that my version of Firefox isn't supported but according to the list of supported browsers these are ok:
    IE: 8 and 9
    Firefox: 10 - 14 (everything else works in 19)
    Chrome
Since two of the browsers I used to test are supported it doesn't feel like a browser-problem
I have opened a case with our supplyer who hopefully will open a TAC-case if they don't find anything by themselves. However, I thought that it might be a good idea to check if it was a known problem where the fix would show up in the next version

  • Browser freezes on quicktime movie

When I try to open a quicktime video in ANY of my browsers (safari, camino, or firefox) it will play about 5 seconds of the video with no audio, then the whole browser freezes, causing me to have to force quit. This also happens on the new iphone animation on the apple homepage. I know it looks like flash, but it is quicktime. I've already reinstalled quicktime and I'm still having the problem.

Nevermind...I will answer my own question. Yesterday I installed the application "OSS 3D" (sound enhancing software) from apple.com. I deleted the app, and the problem is gone. There are a couple pieces of this app left that won't delete because the program is still running somehow.

    Hello Steven.
There have been similar reports, yes. You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • Since the release of Firefox 4 beta 8, everytime I go to any Google site, the entire browser freezes. Does anyone else have this problem?

Has had this problem with www.google.com and www.gmail.com. When the browser freezes, it lets me close it but I still have to end the firefox process via Windows Task Manager.

  • Browser freezes during page loading and then either shows the cause as silverlight, or flash to be the cause, on two different computers, since last 3 upgrades

Since the last three upgrades of Firefox the browser starts to load a web page then freezes. A pop up states that either silverlight or flash have stopped working. This can last for as long as two minutes before it continues to load, or for as little as five seconds.
I have tried various methods to cure this, by reinstalling silverlight, flash, and Firefox.
The only permanent cure is to revert back to an older version of Firefox. I would continue with an earlier version but I get sick and tired of popups from the likes of Yahoo, and yourself telling me to upgrade.
I have also put the the program back to basics, and this is a pain because when I find it's still the same I have to reload all the add ons. Maybe you could devise a method where we only need to click a button to put everything back as it was before resetting it to default.
This problem is occurring on two totally different computers, both running Intel gear, one i7 at 3.5, with 8 meg of ram, one core 2 duo with 4meg of ram, no drain from graphics cards as they all have their own ram.
i7 desktop Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and Dell XPS Laptop core 2 duo Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit both latest windows 7 versions

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • Windows 7 64 bit: I just upgraded Firefox to 7.1 , I can't watch video on youtube, video freezes, then the browser freezes. I right click on the icon showing the page is open on the taskbar & click close then cancel, it starts then freezes again?

When I watch any video on youtube, every video first starts with short freezes then freezes the Firefox 7.1 Browser window. I have to right click on the icon that shows the browser is open on the taskbar at the bottom of windows and then click on close& cancel to get it to start working again. Also, on any site, I am having problems with links & functions that suddenly stop working, site connections being dropped frequently for no reason, my Modem is stable & internet shows connected. On facebook when I click a button(photos) it doesn't work, in Amazon I click on "submit" and the button stops functioning, in yahoo mail I can click on a button to "send" mail and it won't work. I can open them in IE9 or Chrome but not in Firefox. I have tried disabling all plugins.I also have tried disabling all but flash and still the problems persist. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF.

Command + R *should* take it to a recovery console. Command + Option + P + R resets the PRAM, but that doesn't sound like your fix.If all of your buttons are working fine on OSX side, I would ignore PRAM / NVRAM / SMC reset tricks, since these are tested as working fine.
I would say you should probably reinstall the drivers for bootcamp. I tried this with 5 in Windows 8 and it gives you an option to repair. The reason I say this is because the UI isn't showing up, which means that it's using another driver.
If this doesn't work, go into device manager and then roll back to your previous settings.
One more thing comes to mind. Do you ever use Parallels or VMWare to load your bootcamp partition? They have their own driver packages which can cause some unwanted behavior when using windows natively.
One last thing you can do is try to by-pass the GUI powerplan entirely. You can use the Powercfg command, which, as it happens, has instructions on how to forcefully set the brightness values. You probably won't be able to make it through these instructions since you will get an error at some point, but that will give us more diagnostic information.
    Good luck!

  • Browser freezes only on MacBook

I have a unique problem.  Recently (possibly during a power-loss) my wife's MacBook started freezing while browsing.  My Macbook Pro and Mini can sit right beside her MacBook and work perfectly -- log in through the airport express and router and browse correctly.  When activating the MacBook browsers (Safari or Firefox), the page freezes.
Opening System Preferences>Network>Assist me>Diagnostics allows me to go through the log in process and all the "lights" go green, and the browser finds the page; however, any subsequent click in the browser crashes the connection.  If I repeat the process of diagnostics, the lights go green again, the browser finds the selected page ... but freezes again at that point.  Essentially, I have to do the diagnostics every time I want to do something with the browser.
Now -- I have made 4 trips to the local Genius Bar (but everything works there), and we have tried three different remedies, including erasing the drive and reloading just the operating system from scratch.  Still no joy.
Yes, it has something to do with this maching talking to my network, but why would only this one have the problem, not the other two -- or our iphones, which find the wi-fi network and work fine.

Erased and reinstalled whole system -- solved the problem.

  • Browser freeze in Mac Mini

    Hello all
I'm using Man mini g4. starting few days ago, I can't download anything from any browser. When I'm starting a download, all browsers (Firefox, Safari and Camino) just freeze.
I created a new user, just to test. It is working normally when I'm logged in as nwe user.
Any ideas how to fix it? Some kind of user profile reset?
    Thanks,
    Alex.
    Mac Mini G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi strangeriam, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If it doesn't happen in a test account, that's good news. It means the issue is limited to your user.
Log back into your normal user account:
Here's the whole litany for thoroughly checking your home folder.
    1. Navigate to ~(YourHome/Library/Fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( Likely suspects are Times RO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
    • Navigate to ~(YourHome/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
    • Navigate to YourHome/Library.
    • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
    • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
    • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
    • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
    Note:
The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
    4. Navigate to YourHome/Library/Caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.
