Browser Has Disappeared and is Greyed Out in the Menu
I moved the project tab out to enlarge it to find a clip and in trying to put it back lost the Effects tab and the Browser. The tab with the project name is there but no Browser. (Everyone on previous posts seems to have solved it on their own! ) How can I get it back?

Uh-oh. I did the Control U and all my clips have disappeared. I normally work with the Viewer, Canvas, Browser across the top half of the screen. The Timeline and tool bar are in the bottom half. Where in the world are all the clips, etc??? (This project has been a nightmare!) Keep in mind I had to fetch a version of the project from the autovault and use it when I had a render issue that froze up my program. Hmmm. . . . .maybe I ought to go under File and click on the version I was using eh?

My internal hard drive wont show on the desktop and is greyed out in the finder
My Internal drive will not show up on the desktop, and appears greyed out in the finder.
it shows up fine in disk utility and i have tried to repair permissions. This runs normally, there does not seem to be any problems with the drive itself.
if i unhide the hidden system folders using terminal, it appears on my desktop again, but greyed out.
any ideas how i can fix this?Try deleting the Finder .plists. You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences. Move the .plist(s) to your desktop.
Relaunch Finder and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the Finder is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
If that doesn't work, try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I have never had a problem sending & or receiving e-mail prior to the past few days. All of a sudden the Send button has disappeared and my address list on the left side has disappeared too.
I did find some help which suggested opening the Write and then press F9 to retrieve the address list. The address list returned on the left but does not appear as it used to ie. full length of the screen. However what is now there will be satisfactory. The "Send " button is still missing which is frustrating as I have not been able to send any e-mails for approximately a week now.
Would appreciate advice as to how to retrieve the above.

I therefore contacted the company which services it, namely iTOK and a technician read your suggestions and after a bit of manipulation of various things he got them both back. It seems that I had not noticed the "press the alt key" as part of it due to the fact that the 'alt key' was not 'ALT key'. My fault for skimming too quickly. Thanks again for your advice...it worked and now i am back on track.

The loading bar at the bottom of my Firefox browser has suddenly disappeared and I want to reinstall or reactivate it. How do I do this please and what is this bar called? I use the latest version of Firefox 3.6.3 and Windows XP. I have many add ons and I usually automatically install the recommended updates. This problem has never happened before and switching my browser on and off again does not solve the issue.

My forward and back buttons are greyed out after update to Firefox 8. Tried to move to 9 beta, but same behavior. Back and Forward also greyed out in right click menu.

I use the Pencil Tool to modify pictures and drawings in Photoshop Elements. Normally I would see an outline of the pixel group - so for example, if the pencil size was 6 pixels I would see the outline of the six pixels. This allows very accurate poitioning of the tool. All of a sudden these outlines have disappeared and all I can see is a representation of the pencil where the cursor is. This makes positioning rather hit and miss especially if the pixel size is large. What has changed - and how can I return it to the way it was ?

You could revert to the Release channel and still have the Firefox button for a few more weeks or just try the new button as a lot of effort went in to the new design. You may grow to like it. If not then addons usually are able to remove some feature regressions have a look at this one

Unable to scroll to top of page, as scroll tools are not active upon opening Firefox or a new browser window since this problem occurred. Home/startup page is set to Google Advanced Search. Would prefer not to have to re-install Firefox, if possible, as I have a lot of important data in Zotero and Bookmarks that I do not want to jeopardize.

My screen is maximized so that I can't access the x in the upper right which lets me minimize a page. I want to keep something open and move temporarily to another site. but I am unable to minimize firefox or anything else. How to get that X back at the upper left?? thank you

hey-- so iMessage on ONE computer has my wifes phone number in under iMessage and its greyed out and i cant change it to my number. any ideas? ive done what people have suggested on these forums, e.g., check your apple id make sure your number is associated with it etc. how do i change the iMessage number from my wifes to my actual number? thanks! This can depend on the the Apple ID that is used.
I was under the impression that the invididual parts of an iCloud ID could be "registered" separately for iMessages but this may not be correct.
I have an Apple ID that is based on a email from a source external to Apple. (an old Dial-up account email)
I registered this for iCloud and at the time got an @me.com name as well.
I also have two iPhones so I decided to use the @me.com name on one iPhone and the older Dial-up on the other.
This seemed to work up to the OS X10.8.2 and iOS 6 updates.
AT this points I did the OS X one first then the iPhones
I got alerts in Messages on the Mac to add the Dial-up ID iPhone's number to Messages which I accepted.
The Messages Menu > Accounts > iMessages showed the iPhone Number as an alternative Receive ID and offered itself in the Drop as the Send from ID.
I then set up the second iPhone and got an alert in Messages to add the Apple ID and the iPhone number to Messages.
I said no to this.
At iOS 6 this did not get added to the Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessage panel.
However at iOS 6.0.2 the iPhones are showing their own Numbers as Greyed out and even though I refused again the @me.com ID and second iPhone's Number they have been added to the Message Menu > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages pane although they are not ticked.
The only link these two Apple ID Names have is that they are both associated with the iCloud Account.
(I Can log in to the same iTunes account with either name, and post here, and access iCloud in a web browser - the password is the same).
I have successfully managed to get one iPhone to have it's greyed out Number ticked so it can accept iMessages sent to the Number.
This involved removing the Apple ID on that iPhone, Closing iMessages, restarting iMessages and then re-adding the Apple ID
I did get an alert to say the ID would not work anywhere in iMessages when removing it.
It was 24 hours before I got an alert in Messages again to add the iPhone Number and Apple ID (I said no and they are not active but do show in the iMessage account on the Mac)
I am a little confused by this bit:-

I can see the iPhone Numbers in Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts >iMessages Account pane but they are not greyed out even when not active
They are only greyed out on the iPhone's themselves.
I would also make sure the Apple IDs used on each computer and it's related iPhone are separate from each other.

Dear apple, I am really dissapointed with you. Around January 2013, my iPhone 4s 16GB White has hardware issues, which was the Wi-Fi grey out. The wifi grey out means that I can't access the wifi on/off button, and also it has no connection. I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? That isn't how it should work, you should be fixing this problem so people can be happy customers and leave happy. Obviously you don't all know how to do your jobs, because if you did, we wouldn't have this problem. I would like a replacement phone, ONCE AGAIN. If this problem occurs again, I will simply stop buying your products, and lose faith in your company, your's sincerely, Jack Maher.

My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3. -
I use Norton which has a feature called "Identity Safe." In the old version of Mozilla, the icon for this feature was available on my toolbar. Now that I have converted to the latest version of Firefox, the icon has disappeared and I cannot figure out to get it back. I can still activate the Identity Safe by opening Norton, but I want to restore the shortcut.
Symantec have made an update for their add-ons to work in Firefox 4, but they only listed them as compatible with Firefox 4.0, they need to update them to let them work in Firefox 4.0.1, they have indicated this will be happening soon. I recently updated my iPhone 3G to 5.0 (9A334) and it was somehow interrupted during restoration, or at least that is what it tells me. But it keeps making a new restore and adding it to a list, but never gets through without getting interrupted. anyways, I kind of got through all that, but now all the music on the iPhone won't play and is greyed out. I had some APPs greyed out, but they are not as important. Music is a huge investment in my life and this part of it has gone silent. I SYNC with my iMac. Resyncing doesn't help. I can change the selections, but can never get them to play on the iPhone.
Any ideas?I'm having the same issue, i restored my phone to Factory settings, even tried restoring it to my backup, half of my music bought from itunes won't play on my iphone and i'm super annoyed, this only happened once i updated to ios 7.2 so i assume its another glitch to go with my imessages not sending, getting sick of this.

IPhoto won't open, gives me an error message and the icon is greyed out on the dock
My iPhoto icon is greyed out on the dock and wont open. When I click on it it says it may be damaged or incomplete. Went to All Images and the photos are still in there. Went to aplications and the iphoto icon looks normal. Clicked on it and got the following error message. "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?" There is a quit button with the message, but nothing to allow me to create a new photo library. So neither my wife nor myself have tried to upgrade iphoto. Not sure how it got a newer version. It was working fine a few weeks ago. Anybody have any ideas how to fix or restore the icon and iPhoto without losing pictures?

Rather than assume the account is "kinda" damaged, I would instead work on the basis that something in the account is damaged, and - as iPhoto is working correctly in the other account - that something is specific to this account.
So: Check on things that are specific to the account:
The Libraru
The plist files
The Cache files
are obvious approaches.
In the case you describe an awful lot of the time the issue is with the Library. This simple test will tell you if it is:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
If you can make a new Library and get it to work, then the issue has to be with the old library.
In that case:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
