Browser issues on curve 8900

Hi all, I recently got an unlocked curve 8900 TMobile, and it being my first BB, i was excited!
I have a real serious problem connecting to free wifi areas. you see,
my curve 8900 has no options for hotspot. under browser configuration, there is the only option for blackberry browser, and nothing else. i cant even switch to hotspot. i was told that i need to change the browser type to hotspot to go on surf on wifi.
anyone out there able to help??? pleaseeeeee....
i really appreciate any help/advise that i can get from the BB experts  thnx so much...

hi apruthi,
reinstall the nic-drivers and check your AP...
if the bios update "improves" the communication of the chipset the drivers have to be updated too.
if you surfing wlan: mabe your card is becoming to hot and causes this failure...
even a encryption can get "worried" - check and renew...
second thought: infected by a virus/trojan/whatever!
got this issue on a machine - only cure was to restore it to factory defaults which was done by a recovery (cd)
services were modified by the trojan, the scanner was unable to find it...
a infected system isnt trusty anymore!
even if you "desinfect" it... you cant be sure that some system files were not modified...

  • Data Issues with New Curve 8900 on ATT

Hi, I just got this Blackberry Curve 8900 yesterday for ATT, and it's my first Blackberry. Everything was working fine up until earlier today when I realized that my data wasn't working properly. The data will work with certain apps, but certain apps with also not connect. My e-mail and BB Messenger also will not connect. The only way for me to get them to work is if I connect to wifi, but other than that on my EDGE the majority won't connect.
Here is a list of apps i've compiled that shows what works with what:
    -Works with Data & WiFi-
    BB Browser
    iheartradio
    FML
    poynt
-Won't Work with Data but will work with WiFi-
    BB E-Mail
    BB Messenger
    BB App World
    Facebook
    Twitterberry
    Myspace
    Google Maps
I went to Manage Connections, and Mobile Network Options and my data is set to on, and i've done muliple battery pulls to no avail. When I turn on my WiFi all my emails and alerts that I missed come rushing in. For example I resent a Service Book to my device and I did not receive that until my WiFi was turned on. My "EDGE" is in capital letters so i'm receiving data.
Can someone please help me solve this frustrating topic? It really is mind boggling.
    Thanks!
    Stephen B.

You have a BlackBerry Data plan right? I'm assuming so since it works sometimes
Also if you notice when the Wi-Fi is off, if you go into Manage Connections | Service Status does the BlackBerry Internet Service say it's connected to the Mobile Network? Or if you go into Mobile Network Options can you run a Diagnostics Test and see if it sees that your data is connected?
If someone has been helpful please consider giving them kudos by clicking the star to the left of their post.

  • How can I get my blackberry curve 8900 to update to 5.0 and get wifi to work?

I bought a blackberry curve 8900 around a year ago on an AT&T plan back when data plans werent required, so it just has minutes and texting. because of an issue i had with data before, i have data disabled completely on my account to prevent any mistaken data being used up and charging me. my AT&T contract recently expired so i called them up and got my blackberry unlocked, and will be soon switching to tmobile.
My problem is that it refuses to update past 4.6 over to 5.0 because of some restriction on it placed by AT&T, and my wifi wont work unless i have data enabled for the same reason. Is there anything i can do? I've tried installing 5.0 from different service providers onto my phone but it never installs properly.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
While you can (with just a trick or two) use any carriers OS package for your specific model number, it won't do any good since all 5.0 level OS's require a data plan, regardless of which carrier. So, without that, you can't update to 5.0. Further, it is the data plan that activates BIS -- which is what is used to run the BlackBerry Browser...hence that non-functionality also. Basically, a BB without a data plan is, to many, pretty useless.
There are other browsers that bypass BIS and will use a generic data plan (assuming you have that)...OperaMini and Bolt come to mind. You might give those a try.
    Good luck!

  • Curve 8900 won't view surveilence cameras correctly

    Hi!
I am a locksmith with Carl's Lock Shop in Co. Spgs, CO.
We view a particular web site with our shop cameras in order to sell our services...
    The web site is www.videoalert.net
You will automatically be re-directed to thier mobile site...
should say "mobile access" or "mobile viewer" at the top...
Enter user name ppp and password pp then click next...
Choose either rover1 camera or pan and tilt (camera 2 is is disabled)...
Now the image, if you have any other Black Berry other than a Curve 8900, will update every few seconds with still pics...(no Blank screen between pics)
If your un-fortunate enough to have been suckered into buying a Curve 8900 you will get one image for about five seconds then instead of refreshing it just goes to blank screen...(if it does refresh it will just blink a half secord glimpse of the pic every thirty seconds or so)
T-Mobile Black Berry/ PDA  support is no help at all...(have tried every setting in the phone and some settings only an **bleep** would attempt)
Have been connected with Black Berry support to no avail also...(if 877-255-2377 case # 7151298 was a legit deal( they seemed kinda dumb)
If you let the screen saver come on it will bring up a permanent pic that will not refresh...(Same thing as turning off java script in browser config)
It's painfully obvious to even a moron like myself that this new Black Berry has a different Java scpript or operating system  that is not compatible with this particular 3rd party web site, that neither T-Mobile nor Black Berry are responsible for...Duh
I don't need them to tell me that...
I figured that out before I called them and spent hours trying to fix the un-fixable...
    Dumb as I am, I know when I have bought a "Pig-In-A-Poke".
Oh Yeah the Streaming video on this piece of junk skips and locks up unless your on Wi-Fi so don't believe the "Hype" about how good it plays...
"IF" anybody has any ideas on what will fix this thing...
Call me direct at (phone number edited out for privacy)
    Thnx,

  • Java Script for Blackberry Curve 8900

I have a BB Curve 8900 on Orange in the UK. I am trying to access live football on the BBC website but it states that Java Script needs to be activated. Can anyone help to resolve this?
    Thanks.
    Dazzler

    Hello!
That setting is on this page:
from within the Browser App, ( > Options > Browser Configuration).
You may also find that changing, also on that screen, your Browser Identification to another browser might help your BB interact better with some websites.
    Good luck!

  • Enable Cookie/Wifi connection for curve 8900

    Hi,
Anybody know how to enable cookie for curve 8900? I've tried clearing cache history already but no luck.... I can't access to gmail, hotmail and yahoo mail due to this error.
Also, would you have any idea if this is related to the error 65 when I'm signing in to windows live messenger and yahoo messenger?
I'm also having a problem connecting to Wifi, it can detect the wifi network but won't connect, anybody know hot to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Kim

    Hi ninarollaine,
Do you currently have a BlackBerry data plan with your wireless network provider? Some network providers requre you have a BlackBerry data plan to browse, even when on Wi-Fi.  I would recommend contacting them for more information.
    Thanks.

  • Upgrade OS of BB Curve 8900

    Hello Experts,
How to upgrade OS on BB Curve 8900 when we I am getting an error " No Sufficient Memory Available" . My device memory shows that 67MB is available.
Is there any way to upgrade my current OS version to latest version. Hope I am not missing anything during the upgrade planning process.
Looking to hear more from experts.
    Regards,
    Hemant

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Device Memory is irrelevant for upgrades...AppMemory is what matters...see this:
There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory
Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
SD/Media Card Memory -- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05461
On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15345
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14320
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14213
Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.
All of that said, you further will need to clarify exactly which method of update you are attempting. There are several to choose from, and many sound similar when they are actually very different. Please provide specifics about how you are attempting this upgrade. My advice is to use this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
While written for "reload", it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload -- it all depends on the OS package you have downloaded and installed to your PC.
As for "latest version" -- you will find that via the download portal sites (a link in the procedure). If you desire to use an OS package from other than your BBs original carrier, then simply insert, between steps 1 and 2 in the procedure, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML.
    Good luck!

  • My Curve 8900 and Google Custom Search

    Hi,
I try to access a mobile site m.yamaha-motor.co.id using my BB Curve 8900, everythings seems OK, but I found out that one element inside this website can't load, then I try to access the same site using Opera Mini and it's working nicely.
This element using Google Custom Search, is there some thing wrong with my device / browser?
Any advise would be appreciated. Thx.

  • BB Curve 8900 - randomly stops receiving emails and requires battery pull

I'm a newb to BB and this forum has helped a lot but my BB Curve 8900 randomly stops receiving emails about every 2 days and requires a battery pull to correct.
When it stops receiving emails and I go to the browser, it is also unable to connect. I basically lose all connection to data. I can receive calls and sms.
Turning unit off and on does not help.
I need to do a battery pull. Then starts working fine right away.
    I'm with Rogers in Canada
Is there a fix for this? Could I possibly have a bad phone? Battery pull once is a while is fine but to need to do that every 2 days is not.

Something similar happens to me.  I have to keep resending the service books and then it works fine, try this, at least it will stop you keep doing a hard reset.  I have read somewhere else that this can be influenced by having your phone to turn off at night etc.  So for now I have turned this feature off.  I can actually receive emails via wifi and the failure is only on GPRS.  It sounds a bit strange but I am also becoming convinced that it only occurs when I leave home, go somewhere else and then come back.
Read this below.  I did do all this but it hasnt worked for me, may help you though

  • BB Curve 8900 died and will turn on but still has the red "off" sign

    Hi all.  Great site.
I have a Blackberry Curve 8900 and last night the battery completely drained and I could not connect it to a charger until I arrived at work this morning.  I plugged the phone in around 9:00 A.M., and even now at 2:00 P.M. it is still not charged.
Strangely, the phone WILL turn on if connected to the charger, but the radio is still off.  The red "OFF" sign is still there on the upper-right corner of the screen.
Is there something I can do to get it to actually charge back to where I can use it?
    Thanks for all your help!!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
These batteries typically do not like to be fully drained. Sometimes doing so renders them useless. But, there are a few things for you to try before you determine that as the root cause.
    1) Get a new known good battery. See if it will charge properly in your BB. If so, then your battery is indeed damaged and useless.
    2) Give your battery to another known good BB of the exact same model. See if it will charge properly. If so, then your BB or your charger may be damaged.
    3) Try a different known-good charger in a known-good wall outlet. If it will charge now, then you know it to be your charger to be damaged.
These steps will help determine where the root cause is, which will guide you to the actions necessary to remedy the situation.
    Good luck!

  • Changing My Blackberry Curve 8900 Housing

Hi, I’m planning to get a Blackberry Curve 8900. Before I buy this phone I would like to know if I can change my housing to pink. I’m aware that a phone comes in 3 parts. A front cover, a middle cover and a back cover. I would just like to change the front and back cover as I think the changing the middle cover would be to much trouble unclipping parts. Is changing the front and back cover as simple as unclipping the cover of and on or do I have to remove and unclip parts to do this. I’m scared to unclip to much as I think I may break it.  Pictures or videos would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi. I am wondering if silicone cases for the Blackberry Curve 8900 are better than a hard case? I ask this because I originally when I got my phone bought a hard case for it and the battery would get very warm and drain at an alarming rate. Once the case came off things were fine.  But I really would like to encase it if possible...would silicone be better or just cause the same battery issues again?  Advice please.  TY.

  • Curve 8900 & mp3 files?

Can someone who has a Blackberry Curve 8900 let me know whether or not one can listen to mp3 format files on it? (the curve 8900) as I might buy it if it does, thanks!  My sense from what I read on the product's description page is that it doesn't have the codec for mp3 but does for among other WAV files -it'd stick if I'd have to convert my mp3 files to WAV but I wouldn't have no gripe if I knew what I was getting myself into.

  • Curve 8900 - strange errors?!

    Hi everyone!
BB curve 8900; v4.4.1.310; Vodafone Portugal data plan.
    I'm having this problem:
My emails work wonderfully, so do text msgs, mms; blackberry messenger, all ok, BUT all my other apps won't connect.
Facebook says: error 101 try again later.
    BB App world says: java.lang.nullexception
browser via data plan: it gets stuck in "loading"
I can get them all working through Wifi though!
AND YET, they work from time to time...I will receive from time to time, for example, FB notifications on my FB app that I'd already received on my email (and not on the FB app at the same time)
I dunno...I've made several battery pulls; plugged it into my mac and updated, cleaned unused apps and themes, cleared space...
    I need some help..
    thank you all.

Find a friend with a PC, you can use for a few hours.
I would recommend Desktop Manager, version 6. Download Desktop Manager from here:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Use Desktop Manager to backup your BlackBerry first. If you don't already, you should do this on your own Mac Desktop for Blackberry as well.
See the link below, for the download and simple installation instructions.
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=06997F04A7DB92466A2BAA6EBC8B872D
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
    1. If any post helps you please click the below the post(s) that helped you.

  • Registration of BB Curve 8900 in Bitola, Macedonia

    Hey BB!!!
I am a satisfied customer of BB for about 2 years, so also are my whole Family, we are 4 of us!! I am presently using a BB Curve 9300 !!!
Hence, i presented a friend of mine a BB Curve 8900 so that we can be in touch with each other all the time. I purchased the phone in Mumbai India from The Mobile Store and gave it to my friend in Bitola Macedonia. She signed the documentation for BB Service with T-Mobile about 10 days back. Till date there is no Registration Message neither can T-Mobile help my friend in the Registration.
T-Mobile says that the phone is fine and all is well, but our 'INVITES' from both sides are still pending. Can U advise me what steps to take so as to Register the BB for my Friend. TY "SGF"!

    Hello,
If the BlackBerry is not able to be registered meaning if you go to Options-Advanced Options-Host Routing Table-press the menu key and select Register Now. The BlackBerry will display Registration Message Sent. You should then receive a message back in your messages folder saying that the BlackBerry smartphone has been registered. If you do not receive this message you will need to contact your carrier to make sure the BlackBerry smartphone is properly provisioned and get it registered.
If you do receive the message, take a look at this article on why contact request remains in Pending state in BlackBerry Messenger http://bbry.lv/dz6zah
    Thank you

  • Strange marks on Curve 8900 screen

    Hi folks,
I hope someone can help me out. I have a new blackberry 8900 javelin (have like 4 months of use) and some strange marks appeared on the screen. They are small marks, but they don't disappear. I had the same problem with my last curve 8900 (I had 3 8900 models) but last time, the marks disappeared in a few days. Those on mine are not disappearing. I know it's not a liquid crystal leak, it's a malfunction or something, because the mark had a different shape in a few days ago. Here are some pictures i took to show the problem.
hope someone can help me out!
    thanks guys!

    Hey eduardopfm,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Those marks are definitely hardware/lcd screen related.  I would suggest contacting your network service provider or point of sale for repair options as this is not software related.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.
