Browser JVM for Drake Plus

Hi - I'm trying to connect to Drake Beta Plus w/both IE 6 and Netscape 7. In both cases, I can't get the applet to load. With IE, after the connection page, the new window just appears as blank. With Netscape, I get prompted & directed to the SUN download page. After downloading the JRE & restarting the browser, it again asks me to download the plugin. Any suggestions - I have looked at the configuration guide Chapter 2 closely but can't seem to make the applet run with either browser. New Viewer looks great & am looking forward to seeing plus. Thanks.

Funny enough, if you install SP2 for Windows XP (which the documentation states as a requirement for using Windows XP) the popup blocker that is installed as part of the service pack stops the Discoverer Plus applet from launching.
To resolve this, you have to go into IE's options, go to the security tab, and uncheck the 'block popups' (if I remember correctly) option. All good fun if you've just installed SP2 for this exercise, and you've got no idea (a) that popups are now blocked by IE, and (b) how to turn this feature off.

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

Modify Browser Layout of Discoverer Plus

Is there a way to change the browser layout of Discoverer Plus? I want to have an available list of workbooks area on the left hand side of the browser under available items and selected items.

Hey Gladys.
I have seen this 'challenge' so many times before and IMO, it's just plain wrong (sorry about the soapbox).
I can name companies (although would be shot if I did) from small to Fortune biggies where a 'user group' gets together to decide upon a query tool. Of course that group does not include any consulants who are experts in the field, any IT people who really know all the tools under consideration already, etc.
So, by some magic consisting of "we used it at my last company", to "it looks really good", to "well they gave me a cool t-shirt", they come up with about 3 tools to consider.
Then ... they invite all 3 companies in to perform a 'dog and pony' show. Of course, they have to load your machine with glowing examples in a schema just for them that shows how their tool can do absolutely everything in the world plus make a decent cappuccino (sp?). Oh ... and here are your free binculars?, pens?, tshirts?, stickers?, etc.
So, then this 'task group' comes up with - let's say for fun as this is an Oracle forum - Business Objects.
Without going into all the detail about costs such as BO groups coming in at lofty hourly rates (all the companies do this) and buying new slam-dunk-2007-unix-capuccino servers, you have BO.
But then ... and again not picking on BO, just an example ... does it do all you want? Does it interface completely with Oracle like the Oracle product did? What about upgrades ... do they write it for Oracle ... or all databases and therefore not cutting edge like Oracle is 'supposed' to be?
I learned long ago to:
1. Pick a toolset and stick with it (ie: Word vs WordPerfect). Just pick one and stay with it until Hell freezes over as they just keep leap frogging each other.
2. Oracle is not cheap (how do you think Larry can afford to build an Asian mansion or drive a fighter jet?)
3. Sticking with Oracle if at all possible for everything is the safest solution. Sure they may have a tool that pales in comparison at a particular time, but Larry just pulls out his wallet, throws a few billion into the pot, buys up the competition and years later you're Oracle anyway
4. try not to have 'user task groups' decide on major decisions like BI tools unless they're are computer technical people (ie: greater than 5 years in the business) AND they're not 'last company' whiners (ie: at my last company we used PeopleSoft and boy it was 149 times better than Oracle)
Okay, climbing off the soap box ... but that felt good.

if in formsweb we set the JVM for microsoft ineternet explorer ie=JInitiator
we're not able to access the forms on the web at all, it just displays the outline and done.
BUT
if we set the ie=native and install the jinitiator on client....then we can access the forms on web but webutil doesn't work...BUT in this case on one machine running of NT fails to access the forms aplication on web.
Any thoughts guys...Any help will be highly appriciated.

OS 7 boot CD for Mac Plus?

Hello and greetings from Switzerland.
Before getting to topics let me introduce myself a bit. I'm a private collector of old NeXT, Atari and Apple hardware, living in Switzerland and as long as being no native speaker I hope You can understand my English...
I do have a problem that I can not solve and I'm looking for clues regarding my Macintosh Plus.
This nice littele machine ran Mac OS 7.5.5 off an old Rodime HD for nearly three years as a webserver using MacHTTP. Now this Rodime HD has gone to see its maker and I'm facing the fact, that old drives that can be used by the plus are harder to find than other hardware I already found.
Before I once installed a OS 7.5.5 off that harddisk onto a Iomega Zip and the Plus started off that one, too, but he does NOT start form a installed minimum os 7.5.5, which was placed onto a Zip by my PowerBook 145b. So I think any OS has to be installed off the Plus in order to run.
As it is getting harder to find 800k floppies, too, I thought about creating a bootable OS 7.5.5 CD for the Plus. I just tested this ability by placing an old PowerBook 1400c installation CD into the 600i CD ROM and the Plus started up to the point, where he stated that this CD can not be used by the Plus - the resources for the Plus were missing because this CD is solely for the PowerBook 1400c. I expected this but the Plus booted of that CD in the beginning so it seems to be a problem that can be solved.
As long as Apple's disk images of OS 7.5.3 and 7.5.5 only provide a installation but not a bootable system folder I began to wonder if it is possible to create a minimum bootable system CD for the Plus in order to install a 7.5.x off that CD onto a Zip connected to the Plus. I'm missing a "universal" OS 7.5.x installation CD, the only on I own is that PowerBook 1400c one.
So does any one have an idea or clue? I would like to rely on Zip cartridges as long as those are cheap and still available, old harddisks would be even better but in both cases I need a bootable system for the Plus NOT placed on a floppy - these can get broken easily and are harder to find day by day.

I just got myself an old Apple 40 MB hard disk
That is probably a very good idea. The earlier problems with booting could have been related to the Zip (either a driver incompatible with the Macintosh Plus, or a compatible driver that had been corrupted or exchanged when used on a more modern Mac; or possibly the formatting). Remember that an old hard drive used with a Plus may have to be formatted in a special way, with an interleave factor 3:1. This is usually automatically accomplished by formatting the drive when connected to the Plus. One can also, in some cases (a hidden feature in Apple HD SC Setup) set the interleave factor manually, which allows formatting at another Macintosh computer.

The earlier booting issue may also have been linked to a system folder that was not properly active. One can "bless" the system folder by double-clicking on the System file; or by moving the System file and possibly the Finder out of the System Folder, closing the windows, then move the file(s) back in. I guess that you with the new hard drive will be able to install a working operating system, even when creating a system folder from one of the universal options ("for all Macs") on another Mac.
But I still would like to build a bootable CD for the Plus.
Sorry, I am not an expert in this field. There are two web pages (here and here) at the Low End Mac site dealing with similar subjects. Could details there be of interest to you? And, as always, read the software licence agreement(s) carefully in order to stay legal.
Alternatively, you could decide not to make the CD bootable. With a bootable disk (a floppy or the hard disk) containing the appropriate CD-ROM extension(s), the CD and its contents (no need for a system folder there then) would still be visible.
Disk Copy 6.3.3 is available for download from Apple (German version, US version).

So during the Black Friday weekend I purchased a Dyson vacuum at a store. I understand that Best Buy does not match pricing DURING Black Friday weekend. So on 12/15 Amazon had the vacuum on sale for $26 less than what I paid. Again, this is not Black Friday weekend but the item was purchased over Black Friday weekend. So I called in for Best Buy to match the price. I spoke with someone who seemed like temp help. It did not sound like she was in a call center and she didn't know much and seemed to be IM'n with someone to get answers. After initially telling me they would not match the price because the item was purchased during Black Friday I explained that it was no longer Black Friday and Best Buy policy does not obsolve them from matching prices for the next 5-6 weeks (the return date is 1/15/2015) from all items purchased over Black Friday weekend. If so, no one would buy during Black Friday. She said she would submit the price match and I would get an email letting me know if it has been approved. I was patient and waited 2 weeks and nothing. I called back and was told that the price match department was swamped and to please be patient. So I waited till today to call back for the return date is in 2 days and still no price match email. I am now being told that Best Buy only matches their own pricing if not at the time of sale AND they only match the price that same day when they can confirm the price. (which makes sense) I'm also being told my price match was never sent to the correct department so it has been sitting in case # purgatory for the past month. Why is any of this my fault?! I spend over $3500 per year, year after year and I'm supposed to get 'Elite' service. I know more than the people I'm speaking with on the phone! I called in with a legit lower price, waited patiently for Best Buy to match, have now spoken with 3 different reps, been told something different each time about the price match policy (every time they were wrong) and now I'm being told because it wasn't matched when they could confirm the price they won't match the price?! What am I missing?!

Some artists don't qappear in browser window for a playlist

I've been struggling to find a way to browse a large library of classical music. The browser window is a great idea but I can't find a way to add a browser window pane for the Composer tag. So I selected all the tracks with composer=beethoven and made a playlist.
I notice that some artists for tracks in the playlist don't appear in the Artist browser pane. (For example, Szell/ Cleveland Orchestra.) I don't know how many Artist names are missing from the Browser's Artist but there are at least 2 missing.
I can see the Artist name "Szell..." in the track listings for the playlist. If I'm browsing the library, I see "Szell ..." in the Browser window Artist pane. I just don't see "Szell ..." in the Artist Pane of the browser window for the Beethoven Playlist.
I tried deleting the Beethoven playlist and re-creating it. I get the same problem again.
I'm using iTunes for Windows v 4.7.1.30. I haven't upgraded to the latest iTunes for Windows because I see reports of problems after the upgrade.

My quess on weather or not an artist's name appears
depends on the nature and quality of the CD. On my CDs
of Beethoven symphonies or piano concertos Beethoven's name
will appear.
As I said in my first message, the artist name appears in the track listing. I have edited the tags to show the correct composer ("Beethoven" in this case) and to show the soloist then conductor and then the orchestra in the artist tag. ("Szell/ Cleveland orchestra" in this case.)
I see the "Szell..." in the artist field for the tracks for the symphonies conducted by Szee in my library. When I select Library in the source list, I see "Szell..." in the Artist Browser list. However, when I select the Beethoven playlist, I don't see "Szell ..." in the Artist Browser list. I see the tracks listed and the Artist field says "Szell ..." as expected.
This isn't a problem with the information in the CDDB database iTunes uses to get the tag values it assigns to tracks from a CD. I've edited the tags to fit my conventions.

Can we use xml Publisher reporting for sql* Plus in EBS

Hello All,
The current report is designed in Sql* Plus Executable report and the output is in txt format, Now the requirement is to have the output in Excel format.
So is it possible to use the xml reporting and make the output as Excel from the word template we design from MSword as we do for rdf(I have done few reports created in rdf to xml publisher reports in EBS and stand alone as well.).
Do the same procedure will suit for Sql*Plus reports tooo or Is there any work around to achieve this.

if any one has used the sql*reports for xml publisher reporting... please let me know, so that if its possible i will check my sql needs some validation or tuning...

What's the best way to browse keystrokes for ornament fonts?

I have a number of fonts that are non-alphabet ornaments, such as Monotype Rococo and Adobe Woodtype. I can look at a selection of the ornaments in Font Book, of course, but if I see an ornament I like, I have to guess which key to hit to get it. If it's the first ornament in the top row, of course I know I use capital A, but God help me if it's someplace in the middle of the fourth row. The obvious solution -- opening Keyboard Viewer and choosing the ornament font as the displayed typeface on the keys -- is unavailable due to some technical limitation of the later OS's that I don't understand.
Character Palette sort of works, but very clunkily. Basically, I pull up the latin alphabet, then go down to choose the ornament font in the Collections window below and then click letter by letter above. I do see the ornament each key gives me. But I'm seeing them one at a time and am giving up the at-a-glance scan of the available ornaments I'd have just by looking at a keyboard.
If anyone has a better way of browsing keystrokes for this kind of font, I'm very, very interested!

On re-reading and following your directions, I really should have given you 10 pts. for that answer, Tom, and not 5. I'd somehow misunderstood the glyph view, thinking it was only a matrix of a certain standard, limited set of symbols, like arrow dingbats and such. I see the way it works now, and it's quite practical.

Is there a way to set up browse sequences for project with multiple TOCs and conditionalized modules

I'm using RoboHelp 9 with WebHelp output.
I've got five outputs, one of which contains Help for common functions, while the other four contain Help for licensed modules. When a user opens the Help for a licensed module, the user sees the core Help and the licensed Help. In addition, files are conditionalized so that searching for unlicensed content from a licensed Help module brings up nothing.
I've been troubleshooting problems with the Previous Topic and Next Topic which, thanks to William, I learned are related to browse sequences. After trying assorted configurations, I've got a couple of questions:
Does RH support only a single browse sequence in a project, even when the project has multiple outputs & TOCs?
If RH supports only a single browse sequence, does that mean there is no way to create a unique browse sequence for each separate output?
If RH supports multiple browse sequences, what is the workflow?
I also maintain a 'master' TOC that contains all the modules, both common and unlicensed. What I've done for now is to autocreate a browse sequence based on the 'master TOC'. When I generate output for a licensed module, which is conditionalized, I only see the TOC for that module and, therefore, can only browse between books and subbooks in that module. I've also verified that topics that do not appear in the conditionalized module, such as for another licensed module, do not appear in the Search results list either.

You also asked about the functional differences between WebHelp and WebHelp Pro, so let me elaborate.
I'm aware of only two major differences (other than the extra benefits of feedback analytics reports and management of "Areas" with authentication in RoboHelp Server).
The behavior of Browse Sequences as explained above
The fact that Content Categories are not supported in WebHelp Pro for this latest version 9.
As for the Browse Sequences you are trying to provide for different modules (licensed, etc.): Multiple Browse Sequences are included in a single .BRS file. The sequences are defined in the XML within the single file.
As a workaround (for either WebHelp or WebHelp Pro) you could create a NGP Help.brs. which you have already created for one module; then backup and archive it. Then, create a modification for the different module before you generate again. The NGP Help.brs. will need to have the same name as your project so you will have to manage the desired .brs file into the project folder when you generate that version. All of your other choices (TOC, Index, Conditional Tags, etc.) would remain the same for the respective modules.
Finally, I note that you are apparently generating WebHelp Pro right now even though you are not publishing it to the RH Server? This is really not the best practice. You should generate plain WebHelp for a web server that does not have RH Server on it (even though you may be getting away with it). As for your concern about "breaking" something; each output is placed in a different !SSL! folder automatically when you generate, so you should be able to generate WebHelp without interferring with the WebHelp Pro output. Then, you can re-publish to the RH Server using WebHelp Pro whenever the server is ready.

Why is Firefox opening a separate browser window for each link instead of a new tab in the current browser window?

Suddenly firefox has started opening a new, separate browser window for every link and thing I open. It used to just open a new tab in the current browser. I must have closed down 15 browsers when trying to get back to a previous web page - the back button doesn't work when each click leads to a new window opening! I went into options and my settings have not changed, they still say "open new tab" for links. This just started happening out of the blue today. What's up?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

java.awt.Toolkit is abstract. He means what implementation is used (motif-based, etc.). For example, sun.awt.motif.MToolkit.
It might vary from one Linux variant to another (and from one JVM version to another), I'm not sure. But for any particular Linux system, you can run this program to find out:

You'll need to download the full database installation files for the platform you are using. They are two .zip files, about 2.2 gig total.
I'm not going to give you the link because you should be able to find it easily. You have to read and accept the license agreement anyway.
When you install it, you'll be given several options about the type of database you want.
But before you install anything, you should read the installation manual for your platform.
