Browser on symbian anna 24.001 sucks!!

When I updated my nokia C7 with Anna update version 22.014 I was quite impressed by the new browser. I stopped using Operamini as I used to because I was very pleased with the way the new version 22.014 browser renders web pages. Then I made the mistake of updating to version 24.001 and my joy has dampened very much. My issue with it is the way it renders webpages, especially my favorite sites, Yahoo! and engadget.com. I initially thought it was the fault of the sites. But when used my colleagues C7s that had not yet updated to version 24.001 the rendition was quite different from mine. Mine looked so poor compared to theirs. Even my font size (i like using the small font) is tinier than their their small font size!. Now i have gone back to using Operamini browser.
You did a good job with Anna 22.014 then messed it up again with version 24.001. Come on!!
Wish I had not updated to version 24.001

I totally agree, my problems started as soon as I did the Anna upgrade. Browser crashes simultaneously, my phone asks regularly for my webmail password for no reason, starts search query for no reason, disconnects on a regular basis. I personally think Anna is ruining my phone experience. tho it's nice to see my phone (e7) react faster, I kinda hate it when it's starts to live it's own life instead of doing what I want it to do. Makes me wanna grab the old n97 and start saving for an android.

Hi! After about a week of updating to Anna 022.014...I've got another software update to 024.001...What is this update about? as Nokia Software Update site is still showing 022.014 to be the latest... Any clarification would help a lot... Thanks My phone is C7-00....Product Code is 059B7W4

    @rockinfella
For variants including Middle East product codes, a few for Netherlands and Thailand there has been another update; as it is a large one thought that it had to be delivered by Ovi Suite or NSU though.

  • Symbian Anna...Deja Vu

I KNOW everyone is **bleep**, I KNOW everyone is disppointed, frustrated, angry....gosh the words does not cover the emotions involved...
I have gone through all the emotions...first the excitement when the news came out 'new update coming soon!'...then disappointment, followed by anger and now...a lil' bit i-don't-give-a-fruitcake' lol...
People, please realise, Nokia is a business...they make phones and they need to sell phones. They said they still have 10 phones to come out between now and approximately end of next year (2012). So you have to understand, they need to have a tactic in place, to get people to keep buying their phones. Otherwise, Nokia would go bankrupt and that's a no no (business 101). So their tactic is to delay software updates, bring in 'new phones' with the new updates in place, so that this will entice new buyers. They're then told 'oh there's a new update, coming soon'. They don't care about the old customers...they've got your money already...they're not entitled to give you 'free stuff'. (they missed the memo, coz loyal fans are GOLD).
Suppose if Nokia had given the anna update at end of q1 as 'planned'. That means all the old and loyal customers would've been super happy (SUPER DUPER HAPPY). BUTTTTT, then the x7 would've been obsolete, EVEN before it had came out!!! There would be no reason for people to buy an x7, especially since it would've been super duper expensive. On the other hand, people would be buying the n8/c7/c6 coz they'd be cheap...AND have the latest software. Now this would've been very silly!!
So relax people. Nokia is stuck in a rut...they can't do anything right, because...the only options they've got are either go bankrupt really early, or...get the people angry. They simply chose the lesser of the two devils, which makes sense. The job of a CEO is to keep the company floating...Now whether this tactic will work or not...well, it got many of you to buy the n8 early to get the update...so it might work again in the future...maybe
Yes there's heaps of problems, yes you've worked hard for your money, YES YOU'RE SUPER DUPER ANGRYYYY...but that won't change the tactic at Nokia. So take it down a notch, go ahead and vent your frustrations and anger (in a sensible way...). IT IS NOKIA'S FAULT, but they gotta do what's right for them...
Hoping you all have the best of days ahead...

    Hey Jerspa!!
I think we can agree that symbian is dead. it's not the future. We should've seen it coming, i mean...like you said years and years but that only produced a still unfinished product. I think meego's the future.yes it's not dual core or has a super duper awesome plus and multipled amoled screen. but the clear black display is awesome when comboed with a normal amoled. no complaints there. I doubt a duo core/quad core is that important for a mobile (ok my point of view). The only thing i'd miss is the 1080i vids. but games and other apps...i'm gonna stick with my laptop/computer.
Now i'll wait for a meego with 1080i vid +30fps caf, xenon flash, and usb otg. note, that's MY dream phone...mine, not anyone elses...
oh and a good battery of course
First off: I didnt claim that symbian is dead.
    Then why i rant here?
    Answer:
My last phone were 3720 classic, it were fine working phone. Everything worked as expected without bugs.
Now when i take the N8 from my pocket which is premium phone and 3x more expensive than 3720 classic, the 2 first months were horrible. Everyday that "insert sim" "phone rebooting" "program crashed" stuff. Then Pr1.1 came, which still didnt provided the support. PR1.2 fixed the  problems with email etc. That were only corporate stuff.
So lets talk about those leaked vids about PR2.0:
In february we saw allready working splitscreen qwerty and draggable HS + new browser. <- less than 4 months from the delivery date to market. That was impressive, but it isnt anymore since it takes 6 months to deliver that damn update. Thats unacceptable.
Lets look the PR2.0 press release in Conversations:
    http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/04/12/announcing-symbian-anna-aka-pr2/
Now lets pick up the cherries:
Enhanced Browser (v7.3): <- This is new
Enhanced Ovi Maps (v3.06): <- This is allready newer
Enhanced Ovi Store (v2.06.xx) >- Same for here
Enhanced Social (v1.3) <- Same for here
So as you can see, wheres the all time spend? theres nothing new, Nokia is really lettings us like without clothes to middle of antartica with S^3 phones, the support for this is horrible.
Theres no way that any of PR team or Dev team can defend this situation until they let the iron curtains down and show us the one fact: Why it takes so long? What is wrong? AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE IT BETTER?
As we seen above, Skyee's team aint working at the social team, nor in maps team nor in ovi store team.
So while i debunked the all "we are working hard" claims, theres really nothing that can explain the delay.
Funny fact is that S40 phones are getting the same functionalities as S^3 so why would anybody buy this over priced N8?
I mean, Compare N8 to C6-01 that phone is 2.5X cheaper than N8. Still the N8 doesnt have ANY extra that would justify the price?. This also the thing why i am very angry.
When Comparing to E7 and  N8, E7 is in lower stage in the portfolio pyramid and still its more worth, it has more functionalities than N8, same price. In the S^3 phones, N8 is the loser. Nothing really supports the price.
Also when i bought the N8, i skipped the N95 and N97* because i saw those via friends, i know that those got problems. So i hoped so much that the S^3 would be new symbian, rewritten and a os that have rid off the same old failures that N95 and N97* got in software quality.
Damn it, everything were even worse than those phones, even small basic functionalities are missing here and there. This so half baked product, Even the MP3 player is mising a EQ <- A basic function, been on phones for many years. Even N95 and N97* have that LMAO.
Theres really nothing new in this Anna update, this is why the stocks goes down, this why the sales wont go up. S^3 is the total failure in nokias history,  how it can be, that the S^3 phones are in 3rd generation which fails in SOFTWARE QUALITY.

  • E6 Back to Symbian Anna is a Popular Request

    Nokia
Can we get an update back to Symbian Anna while Symbian Belle comes out without all the faults mention below?
Try it for a week and see the customers demand,
    Please [-O< ,
We're loyal customers as an average this is the fifth device for each user,
I'm planning to sell the current and buy a new without the update

OK, Nokia, just give us Anna functionality then (and a bit more).
At least make Belle look and function like Anna regarding notifications etc. and keep Belle under the hood. There is nothing wrong with Belle performance-wise.
However, to be honest Belle's (visual) notification concept, especially for new Emails, sucks - and blows at the same time!
Therefore, as there is no proper visual Email notification I often have Nokia Mail as a "homescreen" so I can directly see new emails. I am working with the home, email, contacts and calendar buttons to navigate between the main apps I need most. So, basically all I do request are proper, professional notifications, both for Email and Calendar.
I barely use more than two or three (of the six) home screens. Nokia Maps, Camera, Nokia City Lens, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile, Quickoffice. That’s one homescreen. I would like both Nokia Mail and Calendar to have fullscreen homescreen functionality - one homescreen each dedicated to Nokia Mail and Calendar plus the clock and date, email and calendar homescreen app from Nokia Anna for the E6's “home” screen. That would be awesome.
    Cheers,
    Lars

  • Nokia offers free download for Symbian Anna

Symbian Anna – the latest software update for Nokia’s Symbian smartphones – is now available for download in the Philippines.
Symbian Anna significantly enhances the user experience on the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia E7. A new user interface, virtual QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, split-screen messaging, enhanced Nokia Maps, better web browsing and stronger security are just a few of the improvements that people will be able to enjoy. Symbian Anna can be downloaded using the latest version of Ovi Suite (version 3.1.1) on a PC, or over-the-air directly to your smartphone.
"Nokia’s Symbian smartphones are used by millions of people around the world every day, addressing specific consumer needs and providing choices at many price points," said Mike Smith, Device Portfolio Manager, Nokia Philippines. "Symbian Anna represents a significant update to the experience of those users. It also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to Symbian, which still headlines the next 10 phones that Nokia will introduce over the next 12 months. Moreover, it signifies our thrust to continuously bring updates to the user experience and support for the software until at least 2016."
Below are some of the key features of the Symbian Anna:
New user interface: Symbian Anna brings a fresh new look and feel to the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia E7 with crisp icons and multiple usability enhancements. Typing on the touchscreen is much easier with a split screen, so you can see message threads, webpages, contacts or email view while typing on the virtual QWERTY keypad – now also available in portrait mode.
Better maps and navigation: Symbian Anna enhances Nokia Maps with better search functionality, new public transportation routes and the ability to check-in to favorite geo-social network sites like Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter. Users can also share their location via email and SMS, even to non-Nokia phones.
Faster browsing experience: A faster, easier-to-use browser delivering quicker page loads and improved device navigation allows people to connect more easily to their favorite sites on the go.
Stronger security for better business: Symbian Anna brings true business-grade security with improved data encryption on Nokia smartphones. Business users with a Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 or Nokia E7 can now easily and securely access their company intranet with IPSEC and SSL VPN enablers.
Near Field Communications (NFC) availability for Nokia C7: The Symbian Anna software update also activates the NFC hardware in the Nokia C7, so people can now simply tap their Nokia C7s together to share contacts, photos, videos and play games; easily pair with NFC-enabled accessories from Nokia and others; and read NFC tags to check-in and more.
Business users will also benefit from more features offered by Symbian Anna. Enjoy instant messaging and presence with Microsoft Communicator Mobile. E-mail enhancements are also provided, including full meeting request support.

  • C7 symbian ANNA in israel

    Hi
What is the time line to release ANNA in israel??
    Thanks

    Nokia Support contacted me...
The solution on the Nokia Browser Bug described in this topic is to always type the web address and not to use bookmarks option.
So, now I have to type over 30 characters every time I use the Nokia Browser ?!!?
I hoped that was a joke...
    Was not.
Even so, the this solution is not working.
After hours of phone talking with Nokia Support on my cost, I can tell every one of you that I will never buy Nokia products and I will never recommend Nokia products to someone.
I have changed 3 different Nokia BH-216 in the last 2 years because of lousing connection with the Nokia phones (5800 and C7)...
Adding the experience with Nokia Support and Symbian Anna, I think that Nokia Products are not reliable any more.
    R.I.P. Nokia...
You cost me too much time and a lot of money...

  • Symbian Anna update 1/2 failed to install

The story so far. I did the first round Anna update (around 27 mb i think) OTA cos my Ovi Suite never able to update firmware on my n8 since trying to update it to PR 1.2, and I did try reinstalling, redownload, reboot PC, reg clean, ccleaner to fix the Suite but it still do not update my firmware at all. But that's another story.
So I installed the 1st round, n8 rebooted to white screen, rebooted into homesceen with Midnight theme. SW update then shows 4 more items: Anna update 1/2, 2/2, Store and Social. The 1/2 was showing around 20++ mb. So I selected all 4 and update. Halfway through the installing process of 1/2 update (note the download part of 1/2 was very fast), I did plug in the power pin, cos the installation process was damn slow for 1/2. I did not notice wheher it finised installing cos later i checked it was already on 2/2 (downloaded and installing). It then went to the last two items and installed ok.
Rebooted device, but SW update still showed Anna update 1/2 available (the only one left) and the download size is now 7166 kb. I proceed to update it, it failes with error but no error codes or any message what was the error about. I tried again and again, with fresh reboots, still failes. What gives?
Even more, split screen not here. I did the uninstalling Swype, activating qwerty mode in portrait, still no split screen.  I do not have any Betalabs apps.
My Quickoffice & Reader is not here anymore (the app manager not showing them too). Heck I bought the full ver of Quickoffice 6 last time. Wat a waste of my money now that ver 7 is out!!
Anyone knows how to delete the "dowloaded cache" of SW updates? I want to force SW update to redownload this 1/2 item to try fix this issue.
Thanks for listening and please help. Cheers!!
    Solved!

I got the same problem since this morning on both my N8 & just found out solution on a previous update error similar to this & completed the update on one of the N8. Re-trying on another one.
Working Solution for failed update was found on Flashism's website quoted & "touched up" per below:
Big thanks to user “Unick” on Nokia Support Forums, who posted a working solution to the problem, and there are couple of successful installs reported from the solution.
I just deleted folder E:\Private\20019119\. After that I ran SW update on the phone & it restarted download of Symbian Anna Update 1/2 & 2/2 as well as Social, they  finished updates successfully.
To delete the mentioned folder, follow these simple steps:
    • Connect your Nokia N8/C7 in Mass Storage mode to PC via USB cable
    • Locate and delete folder named “20019119″ under \Private folder of Mass Storage
    • Unplug the device from PC, and retry again. It should work.
However, I still got no popup split keyboard after completing the updates & restarted the phone.

  • Missing features in Symbian Anna (Is it only me? o...

I installed the Symbian Anna Update which was released yesterday (18th August 2011) and got trough the update process despite the difficulties the Software Updater in my phone caused. After the update I noticed some features are missing:
(Not Adobe reader or Quickoffice, they were available after the update.)
    1. The animated pop-up notification that I got when I connected to the internet is missing in Symbian anna. (It's really annoying because I can't actually see what access point my phone is using unless I look harder.)
    2. The Games folder is missing (The Icon with the game controller on it)
    3. No wallpaper in the Default "Midnight" Themes.
    4. Homescreen Rotation is a bit jumpy. (The operators name doesn't appear with the rotation animation. It jumps in)
If anyone encountered any of these problems, please let me know. If you have a solution I'd really appreciate it. Or if these things are normal. Well I'll wait for a future software update from Nokia.
I have a Nokia C7-00, I tried reinstalling the Software update and Soft-Resetting but non of it worked. Just so you know.
    Thanks,
    Lasiru.

    Hi,
Seems that you have downloaded an old version of OWB. The new version is 9.2, not 9.0.2 and it is as far as I know only available as a standalone download.
The version of Developer Suite currently on OTN is more than a year old.

  • Will symbian anna will be lost after hard reset?

if i hard reset my n8 then symbian anna will be lost?????
And it will display sym 3????

Absolutely not. But you will have to install again the 2 apps pack Symbian Anna 1/2 and 2/2!

  • Symbian Anna missing split screen keyboard / no sp...

    Dear Nokia,
It's very good news to have symbian anna in my phone, nokia n8. IT's very well build.
However, in my country product code, Malaysia, I dont have split screen keyboard appear in every section that should appear in firmware. I have clean all my phone state in zero apps and i flash my n8 with symbian anna together with 1gb memory card content which means i have fresh , pure symbian anna without any system disturbances.
I update all symbian anna packages in software update, but split screen doesnt appear in most of my country variant.
Returning back to old PR 1.2, what we had was no smart dialler to easy contact calling. Then in symbian anna again, we still missing split screen keyboard which had been promised to be in symbian anna.
I have waited this feature for almost 8 months, but misssing this split screen is kind of dissappointment to us.
I need full explaination how exactly this missing feature happen, I wrote this not for myself, but for whole people who still miss split screen keyboard. I have fresh symbian anna, 0 apps installed, empty memory card, resulting no software conflicts.
THANKS YOU for Symbian Anna and we still waiting for this missing feature.

There is no split screen text input on any firmware that has Chinese. So Malaysian, Singapore, China and Indonesian phones all do not support split screen.  Futhermore, the pinyin input does not support portriate qwerty.
If you install a firmware version which does not support Chinese, you get split screen activated. I have tested both Thailand and Indian versions, both working with split screen.
Also, the 2 software updates that come after your have installed Anna will not add portrait qwerty.
Furthermore - this issue has NOTHING to do with swype. Please ignore any message your read which mentions swype.
I'm from Malaysia, didn't get it either.
This is very upsetting! Ten months of waiting, this is what Nokia has given us? This silly reason behind not including split-keyboard in our FW variant is not even a reason at all!
It's an obviously missing feature, and they seem to have not mentioned of this in any of their marketing videos or pages. Should have at least put a disclaimer saying it's not available for us. *Misrepresentation*

I wonder to know how to adding new fonts to Symbian Anna on my E6. Most of my Word and PowerPoint documents require some special fonts, such as Courier News, in order to display correctly.
    Does anyone know the solution?

There is solution demonstrated for E7, N8, C7 & C6-01 but not yet seen E6 mentioned in this respect.

  • Clarification on 025.007 for Symbian Anna products

    Hi all,
as you might have noticed we started rolling out a new update version for the Symbian Anna products.
025.007 only contains some error fixes and is therefore not a mandatory update for N8/C7/C6-01/E7/E6/X7. This means, that not all countries/operators will test and approve this version. The rollout is happening in waves, depending on lcoal testing and approval. If you want to get a notification when the update is available for your phone, please switch on the software update auto check. (You can find it under Options in your phone’s Software Update App.)
    BR,
    yvonne

I received a symbian Anna service pack of size 1040KB which when installed did not change the version to 025,but said it was meant for usability improvements. It will give me better scrolling in messages and help me get quick location info on photos plus more(it was not mentioned what exactly is this "plus").However it added conversation appl, java run time and conversation server to my installed files list.

  • E7 Symbian Anna music player vs N8 PR1.2 music pla...

Does anyone here happen to have both the E7 (with Symbian Anna), as well as an N8 9with PR1.2)?
If so, can you do a comparison of the Anna music player compared to the poor default player of the N8?
Are there any noticeable UI differences at all, or have Nokia plainly just neglected the music player entirely with the Anna update? Are we destined to continue using such a broken piece of music software until further updates? Have Nokia ignored all feedback relating to the N8's music player, and failed to rectify the problems which plague it currently?
I think many people will agree that the music player on older Nokia handsets is far superior than that of the N8, so I am wondering whether they have listened to complaints and fixed the problems which were reported (Ie, a major gripe was having the Artists and Albums combined)
Any heads-up of what to expect with our N8 Anna update would be very useful!

Well for starters, how are songs organised on the E7? Are artists and albums still grouped together, or have Nokia split them up as they should be?
One of the main problems of the N8 music player is that multiple artists who share an album name (Ie, "Greatest Hits") seem to get grouped together under just one album title. Is this still true on the E7?
Also, how are compilation albums displayed? This has also been an issue on the N8, mainly because artists and albums have been grouped together, rather than separately as per older Nokia devices such as the N91, N82, N95, and N96
Does Anna on the E7 feature a graphical equaliser? This was something else which was missing from the N8, but present on previous handsets.
Have Nokia added an alphabetical search field for the music player, as promised? With split-screen QWERTY text entry, there is now no reason why this should not have been added
Little things like these. How does the E7 Anna software compare to the N8 PR1.2 software? Or have Nokia just blatantly ignored the music player entirely?
