BROWSER PROBLEM- ACRO 6.0, READER 9.0

Hi, All
I'm using IE, under Win XP Pro.  Usual problem- pdf pages on the web try to open with Acrobat 6.0, instead of Reader 9.
Reader 9 was installed first, acrobat 6 afterwards.  Reader 9 has all the updates.
So far I've:
Unticked "Display PDF in browser" in 6
Ticked "Display PDF in browser" in 9
Made sure pdf file association is 9
Changes registry key to point to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader9.0\Reader\AcroRd32exe"
No luck, still gives "Currently running... requires 8 or 9..." error message.
Any help will be welcomed.
Thanks

Hi Marcme,
The issue that you were facing was due to the fact that your Adobe Acrobat 6.0 was set as the default PDF viewing application internally and hence, when you tried opening any PDF in the browser, it popped up an error message stating that you need version 8 or 9 to view PDFs in browsers.
While reinstalling Adobe Reader, you must have received a window presenting you with an option asking which application you want to associate with PDFs henceforth, and you must have chosen Adobe Reader (or it may have been the selected choice by default). Hence, after you reinstalled Reader 9 again, you default association for PDFs changed to Adobe Reader, and voila no error messages..!!

We are getting the following error "there is a problem with adobe acrobat/reader. if it is running please exit and try again. (523.523)" and a gray screen appears (Image not viewable) with multiple users. We are using Adobe Reader XI (11.0.05) and (11.0.06). The current workaround is to log off the website and log back in. Once the user logs back in, the pdf will appear. However it occurs anywhere from 2-8 times in a day. Anyone else having this issue or know of another workaround? Any suggestion with how to fix? Please help!!

Hi Valerie,
Please let me know the version of Adobe Acrobat/Reader & operating system installed on your computer?
Also, try this:-
Launch Adobe Reader/Acrobat.
From the menu, choose Edit -> preferences -> General
Uncheck the option for "Enable Protected Mode at startup"
Restart the Adobe Reader and web browser.

Unless your bank's website is insecure, you're fine.  Go up to the Safari "Search" bar and type in Rapport.  You'll be amazed.  It may  "work" on PCs, but definitely not Macs.  And it's not needed for Macs.

• I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser."  What do I do?

I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.”  What do I do?  I have opened this up in the past without a problem.

Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

• There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again.

We have Adobe Reader 8.1.3 set to open in the browser.
We are trying to open PDF files within IE Browser. While opening multiple documents in the IE Browser, we get "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again." error, once we click on the "OK" button, PDF file opens in the Adobe reader. This happens randomly while some files open up in IE Browser and some files get the above mentioned error message and open in the Adobe Reader.
We need to open all the PDF files in the IE Browser. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I may be better off without the tool bar, but I have found anohter solution;
.  Open Adobe Reader,
                go to edit menu,
                under Preferences
go to Internet, uncheck "Display pdf in browser"
The pdf files then open, but not in the browser

• There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running please exit and try again. (0:521)

There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running please exit and try again. (0:521)
Although I have found other threads in this forum relating to this error - none of the fixes appear to work. I've not found precisely the same error number (0:521), might I need a different fix for this? Has anyone else had the same error?
Just to note, this appears to be an issue with Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 while viewing pdfs 'in-browser' i.e. using the plugin. Other versions of IE on other machines and FF on the same machine work fine on the same pdfs. It also works if you right click the pdf, download and view it in Acrobat Reader 'locally'.
Any help greatly appreciated, I'm stumped.

We were getting the same error on a Win 7 machine which had Acrobat 7 (running in compatability mode) and Reader X installed.  When the user was trying to open the link from an email the error 'There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat.....(0:521) would appear and the pdf would not load.
Investigating the problem I can across an article to uncheck the option "Display PDF in browser" (in the application choose Edit -> Preferences -> Internet).  Undertaking this procedure in Acrobat Reader X however, I could not uncheck this and the path the app was showing was for Acrobat 7!?!
Therefore, opened Acrobat 7 and undertook the same procedure.  Unchecked the "Display PDF in browser" (in the application choose Edit -> Preferences -> Internet) which I was able to do, saved and closed the application.
Rechecked Acrobat X and the "Display PDF in browser" could be deselected and the path was now for ..\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
Retried the original email with the link to the pdf and it now opens without error.
Not too sure if this will help but just thought I would share.

• "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (1.1)" It doesn't crash because it doesn't open documents.

This is the message that appears when I try to open a pdf in the browser.

Uninstall then reinstall Adobe Reader. That solved the problem for me.

• Error: "There is a problem With Adobe Acrobat/Reader..." What is .MST file??

I get the following error message and I looked it up in the knowledge base, and there was a solution for fixing the error message. However, I have no idea what they are talking about. I have downloaded the Customization Wizard, but I have no clue what the following means:
A) Create a new transform
B) Open your previously created .mst file
I went into the C Drive and opened Program Files. I found the Adobe folder, but I couldn't find an .mst file anywhere. Am I completely lost??? Below is the knowledge base solution:
Error: "There is a problem With Adobe Acrobat/Reader..." when you view a PDF in a browser (Acrobat and Adobe Reader 8 on Windows)
Issue
When you try to view a PDF in Internet Explorer, you see the error message, "There is a problem With Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again." When you click OK to the error, the PDF opens outside of the browser.
Reason
When you use the Adobe Customization Wizard to create a transform for Adobe Acrobat 8 or Adobe Reader 8, and you choose the option to "Make Acrobat the default viewer if both Acrobat and Reader are installed", or "Make Reader the default viewer if both Acrobat and Reader are installed", an error occurs if the computer does not have Acrobat or Reader already installed.
Solution
Create a new transform and re-deploy Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
Start the Adobe Customization Wizard 8.
Open your previously created .mst file.
Under Installation Options, select "Installer will decide which product will be the default".
Save the transform.
Re-deploy Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
Additional Information
When you create a transform in Adobe Customization Wizard 8, the installation options allow you to set the default viewer for PDF files. "Installer will decide which product will be the default" is the default setting and should be used when you are uncertain if the target machine has a version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader that won't be removed as part of the installation process. When installed silently using this option, Acrobat will always be configured as the default viewer.

I think you are headed down the wrong path. The Customization Wizard is what you use to push out Reader to several hundred computers. An MST is a package or transform file that is used to accomplish this task. Unless you are an IT person and are trying a deployment of Reader this solution does not fit your situation.

• Xfdf post problem introduced in Adobe Reader 9.1.2?

Hi,
In the past couple weeks, we've had many customers reporting errors with using the xfdf post-back feature of Adobe Acrobat docuements we use.
They said this was not a problem before they upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.1.2.
I have not been able to reproduce the problem here with Adobe Reader 9.1.2, but I'm guessing that maybe their configuration is slightly different from my test configuration of machine/Adobe Reader 9.1.2...
To summarize how we use xfdf post-back:
1.) The Adobe Acrobat .pdf has a button image with the Acrobat variant of javascript handling a "button push" to do an http post of the xfdf data to our server.
2.) The server then processes the xfdf data.
This has always worked fine in the past, but would appear to (under some yet unspecified client-side circumstances), cause an error.  Note:  the server-side appears to not be the root of the problem because the same server is used with the client-machines (client-machines meaning the acrobat plug-in inside an IE browser) that do work, and also with the client-machines that don't work.
Additional note:  The client-machines that do work...always work.  The client-machines that don't work, never work.
Attached is a screenshot of the Microsoft Fiddler (protocol monitor tool) request and response data of the xfdf post.
Thoughts on what might be the problem?
Thanks!

Thank you very much for your response but unfortunately none of the suggested solutions have worked.  When pressing F8 then F8 again, the picture icon toolbar toggles between not being shown and then being shown again so no Save options appear.  When pressing F9, nothing happens at all.  When pressing Ctrl+Shift+S an adobe message appears in the middle of the screen stating the following "This document does not allow you to save any changes you have made to it unless you are using Adobe Acrobat 9, Pro 9 or Pro Extended 9.  You will only be saving a copy of the original document.  Do you want to continue?"  It then prompts you with "OK" or "Cancel".  Upon pressing "OK" absolutely nothing happens.   I have seen this type of message many times before when trying to save pdf files and it has successfully saved the file but for some reason nothing happens in this version of adobe reader.  Do you have any other thoughts at all as to how to solve this?

• Embedded pictures in g-mail do not get thru when forwarded. Google claims it's a browser problem. how do I fix this?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, Firefox 3.6.16
This problem started up about 4 months ago. I thought it was a Google problem, but Google claims it's a browser problem. The same problem happens with Internet Explorer. I checked the Google website and many people are having this same problem. And Google is totally unresponsive.
Attached pictures go thru fine, but if I get an e-mail from someone with embedded pictures in the message, when I forward that message, the receiver does not get the pictures...only a red X in a blank box.
How can this be fixed?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• CS6 Media Browser Problem

When using the Media Browser in Premiere Pro to view files in a folder that contains many files (100+), the browser keeps jumping back to the beginning after viewing a few of dozen files.  I then have to scroll back down to the last place I was and then I can continue a little further before the browser jumps back to the beginning again.   The files do not open instantly -- there is a finite time where the message "processing ..." is displayed.  I gave up before getting to the end.   I doubt that I have an under-resourced computer since it is a i7-3770K with 32GB RAM and a GTX670 card.  Is there a limit to the number of files that can be viewed in the Media Browser?  Any suggestions?
Thanks
P.S.  Just did a search on the problem and I see that it is a well known issue.

Hi guys !
Just wanted to post because we had the same problem on 4 different computers with different configurations.
It was really annoying to have this jumping/refreshing media browser problem. At a point, that this browser was useless.
Then we had a problem with droping sound editing r3d code... Kind of a deal breaker, when the company claims that you can edit 4K r3d files no ?
We finally figured out that the Media Cache and the Media Cache files NEEDS to stay in the original folders (C:\Users\nameofuser\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common).
Even if everybody on the web tells you to dedicate a single SSD just for the media cahe, it won't work for Premiere pro. DON'T MOVE THOSE FOLDERS !
Removing those folders to the original place (C:\Users\nameofuser\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common) [again]  solved the problem for us. Hope it will work for you guys.
Don't blame Adobe, i'm sure they'll read my post to fix this in the next version of premiere

• Problem with 9.3 Reader when opening files from internet

I keep receiving the message 'There is a problem with Adobe/Acrobat Reader.  Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again' when trying to open come files on the internet.  I am able to open files from my hard drive and some files from the internet.  I have uninstalled and re-installed Reader, but get same result.  Any ideas?

As I posted on Feb. 19 this is what works for me.  OS is Windows 7 64-bit, AdoveReader 9.3.1., IE8.
Open Adobe Reader,
                go to edit menu,
                under Preferences
go to Internet, uncheck "Display pdf in browser"
The pdf files then open, but not in the browser
or if you have Google tool bar installed:
On the Google tool bar
click on the options icon (a wrench)
                            go to Tools
                            scroll down to the bottom
                            uncheck Translate
Or uninstall the Google tool bar.
Pdf files open without a problem in Firefox.
All of these solutions are easy.
Good luck,

• I need help with a browser problem

I am was given a new iMac G3 (from 2001) which was really never used.I have not yet had any serious problems with it, but really could use some help with a browser problem.
I have 4 different web browsers that needs the macro media flash player update. The browsers I use are internet explorer, iCab, Netscape, and the original Mozilla Firefox.
It would be of great appreciation for the readers of this post to answer my question.
I am also having the problem with installing the plug - ins for the browsers. Thank You For Taking the Time To read This!

Hi, rynodino -
As Tom has suggested, plugins need to be installed in the Plug-Ins folder for the browser.
Typically each browser will have its own Plug-Ins folder, usually located in the same folder containing the browser itself. In order for each of several browsers to access the same plugins, the plugins must be replicated and placed in each of the Plug-Ins folders for each of the browsers. The easy way to do that is to hold down the Option key while dragging a plugin to the new location - a copy (not an alias) of the plugin will be generated at the location it is dragged to.
Most plugins will display a Netscape icon regardless of where they are located - this is normal.
It is not unusual for the installer for a plugin to default its install to the Plug-Ins folder for Internet Explorer. So be it. Just replicate the new plugin to the other Plug-Ins folders as needed.
Note that some plugin installs will involve more than one item. For those, be sure to replicate all items for it. Using labels can help identify what is new, what has been most recently added, in a Plug-Ins folder.

• Email/browser problem

Hi
About 2 weeks ago I suddenly discovered I was unable to open any web links attached to my emails.
When I clicked on the address, the browser, at that time, Mozilla Firefox, home page came up and the loading sign appeared in the top left hand corner. After approx 15 seconds a message appears which say the pages cannot be accessed and to kill or wait.
After attempting to fix the problem I uninstalled Firefox and made Google Chrome my default browser. only to find the same problem exists. The only way I can open the internet address is to copy it from the email and then paste it into the address bar of
the browser. Have you any suggestions as to how I can fix this annoying problem?
Many thanks
GMMagic

Hey, you can try to reinstall the browser problems. Probably it will help.
About the problem appeared even after browser is different, it is necessary to set the default browser.
I attached you a link that explains how to do this.
