Browser settings in configuration profile
Hello,
I am using Mountain Lion + Server in a lab environment and need to set the start page in Safari and Chrome on each device (iMac). Is there a way accomplish that with the configuration profiles? Or is there another nice way?
Thanks in advancce.
Hi there is no standard interface and different browsers store this information differently.

Wi-Fi settings in iPhone configuration profile not working
Hi there,
if I apply the exact same iPhone configuration profile by using a USB cable and the iCU it works just fine and the Wi-Fi is starts to work immediately. If I upload the profile to the web and install it via a webpage everything works except the Wi-Fi. Both times it is the exact same profile. Any suggestions? Anyone with the same problem?
iPhone 4 / iOS 4.1 / iCU 3.1.0.256Has anybody a better idea how I could avoid the problem? Maybe there is a better way of profile distribution? How are you guys distributing your profiles (no MDM solutions)? I don't know if distribution via email attachment is a good idea cause sometime email isn't already setup so the better way is to go via the browser and a webpage or the profile is going to change the email settings.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions ... Thanks a lot!
Maybe anybody knows a cheap and good MDM solution. We just have 7 iPhones in our company syncing with Exchange. -
iOS 5.1 or iPhone Configuration Profile 3.5 for Windows has not fixed the issue with apply Proxy Settings via a Configuration Profile. Has anyone else got the same issue? Are Mac users got this issue?
This seems to be working for me now but will keep monitoring it the next couple of times I use it to make sure its not a one time thing

HT202577 What Apple TV settings can be managed by pushing configuration profiles?
Hi everyone,
I'm aware that Apple TVs support configuration profiles installed via Apple Configurator.
I was wondering what Apple TV settings can be managed by those configuration profiles. Does such list with settings exist?
Thanks,
DimitarOne, going from a G5 Quad to this pci access is a dream come true. I don't have an earlier intelamac to compare it with so maybe you're right though. Still I don't see any reason why people would have a problem with this on the new machines.
Two, the storage write performance surprised me too but I'm not upset about it, the numbers for both are still very high, and I'm wondering what software and hardware changes in the future might do about that.
Three, I guess machines and sensitivities differ, but my Mac is virtually silent. The only thing I hear is the fans on the video card when I start up and that goes away in seconds. The noisy ATI card reputation is not being lived up to in this case.
After just shelling out thousands for an 08 Mac Pro I can understand your reasons for not spending thousands more on an 09 model. But overall by most tests I've seen the 09's smoke your machine, and I believe they were not just produced for their capabilities now, but for what's coming in the future.
Like me with my Quad though, you'll just have to wait a few years, with me many years, to see the benefits of getting another machine.
To Leslie... Putting blue ray into the new macs would have highly inflated their already very expensive prices. Windows machines can get by with it because they are so cheap, and cheaply made, to begin with. I'm pretty sure the program Toast can make blue ray disks, and there's a plethora of devices to attach to a mac to do so as well.
And don't be so cynical about offsite reviews of products. I've read many scathing articles about products advertised on their websites. And if you've been reading articles about Macs as long as I have, you'd realize that the toughest articles on Macs come from people who are heads over heels Mac devotees. -
Configuration Profile Custom Settings in Profile Manager
Hi All,
I'm a newbie when it comes to OS X configuration profiles. Does anyone have any resources on customizing or editing configuration profiles?
I've been playing around with Profile Manager for a few days and see the "Custom Settings" tab. I'm curious what kind of things I can customize here. Being a newbie I don't know where to start.... If anyone has any documentation or link to online resource or book recommendation on editing mobileconfig files or creating custom settings with payloads in Profile Manager I'd really appreciate it!! There are a lot of tweeks that I'd like to set on our computers and I'd like to see if I can do these tweeks with configuration profiles.
Thanks in advance for your help!
~JoeThanks for posting Brian You're 100% right. It's been noted and the revised article should be published shortly.

MMS fails on iPhone 5 with AT&T when APN configuration profile installed
Installing a configuration profile containing APN information to the new AT&T iPhone 5 results in breaking the capability to send or receive MMS messages through the Messages app on the device. This is for MMS (Multimedia Messaging) and not iMessage (that works fine).
This happens regardless whether the device is on LTE mode or on 3G mode.
The configuration profile we are using has APN information and proxy settings for this APN as well (proxy host and port information). However, the problem happens even if the profile contains just APN without any proxy settings info.
This happens on iPhone 5 ONLY (commercially available through AT&T). This is important to note because iPhone 4S with iOS 6 DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
This problem happened last year too when iPhone4S was introduced. But it was fixed later.yes, sir, without the profile, everyhting is fine on the 5, that is MMS and VVM.
This is really what confuses us over here too. We thought it was the proxy itself. So we took it out and created a very simple profile with just APN, no proxy, nothing else. MMS and VVM would still not work on the iphone5. But data (browser and apps) still worked fine.
Are you aware of the iOS 6 issue I also brought up in this forum, where removing an APN/proxy config profile actually leaves the proxy settings behind (even though the profile itself is removed)?
Well, if I remove my APN/proxy config profile on the iphone 5, the proxy settings are still there, as I can see browser and apps data still going through my proxy (even though my profile is gone). But check this out: MMS and VVM now work (despite the apparent presence of the proxy)!! This is actually our workaround at the moment, using another problem to our advantage.
I think all this shows something is wrong here. -
Can I install more than one configurator profile
I want to develop 3 or maybe 4 layers of iPad iOS8 restrictions & Passcode rules.
For example ALL iPads will have enforced Passcode rules, but only SOME iPads ill require content filtering & SOME require Control centre in lock mode.
The actual working groups of iPads require a lot more complicated set of config elements - above is only an example.
I'd like to create & install different profiles & INSTALL MORE THAN ONE PROFILE.
I have tested this on a few iPads & it seems to work.
My question is - Is this the recommended way / is there a problem if i install more that one profile ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Kind Regards
George kennedy. We install many configuration profiles on each of our devices. We only use one payload per configuration profile so that we can be very granular with our configurations. What I don't know is what would happen if you installed 2 configuration profiles with conflicting restrictions (i.e. one configuration profile allows Messages, and another does not allow Messages). We just make sure we install only one restrictions configuration profile, and then a bunch of other configuration profiles (mail and calendar settings, web clips, WiFi profiles, etc) on each device.
Hope this helps!

How can we handle browser settings while dealing with the security ?
Hi ,
how can we handle browser settings while dealing with the security ?When we configured security in web.xml , during the first request the container is asking for the authentication credentials once they are provided it go's on. but when the user gives a fresh request from the second window within the same browser that time it is not asking for authentication. How can we overcome this.Is there anything to do with server configurations?
How can we make the container no to keep the things or act like session?Ya... I am taking a small example need not happen always but a kind of possibility i am thinking off.
once the user sign out and just left without closing the browser and a friend (suppose not a good friend ... just kidding...) of that user may open the same jsp or file .This time the security is breached. If that feature or property exists....
I know what you might say ... the user will log-out before leaving where a programer might invalidate the session at the time of log out.
Consider the case of a bad Programing or just a programer might forget to invalidate,At that time as a application administrator how can he solve that issue.
Thanks.......

ProxySelector does not pull proxy settings from configuration file?
Hi everyone,
I try to use class ProxySelector to find proxy settings on Windows XP. When a proxy server URL and port is set explicitly in the "Internet Options" control panel, this proxy setting is detected by class ProxySelector - no problem.
When a proxy configuration file is set in the control panel, class ProxySelector returns no proxy setting (i.e. DIRECT) - PROBLEM
(yes, the configuration file works otherwise, i.e. the proxy is pulled when using Firefox or Internet Explorer
and yes, the proxy works too, i.e. when using the proxy url and port directly, HTTP can be used in Java too).
Does anyone have a hint on how to find out the proxy server url and port to use for HTTP out of Java, when the proxy is set through a configuration file as described above?
Thanks a lot for any help
UlrichHi again,
I found a solution in the mean time: ProxySelector does return the local "browser settings" for a proxy server (i.e. proxy type and address) when an application is started with Java Web Start. When started with Java Web Start, a correct proxy type and address is also returned, when a ".pac" file is set in the browser settings.
So, when an application needs to determine a proxy configuration, although it might be started locally one needs to create a JNLP file and launch respective application (locally) using Java Web Start.

Can't install configuration profile using iPhone Config Utility 3.5 and iPad iOS 5.1
Sorry for the long title, but...
I had a certificate expire in my configuration profile (that allows access to the Enterprise WiFi network). In the past, that means I go fetch a new certificate, install it into the configuration profile, attach the device to the computer via USB, and download that to the device. It's all good.
With iCU 3.5 and iOS 5.1, that all works fine until the last step. I hit the install button - nothing happens. Zilch. Nada, Zero. I happen to be a developer as well, so I have Xcode open and am watching the device console. Absolutely nothing happens on the device console.
What am I doing wrong? I can't believe that this is broken, and if it is broken I'm the first person to trip on it, so what's up?
(I did workaround this problem by exporting and sharing the configuration via email to the device and installing it from the attachment. That part still seems to work, and the profile itself also seems to work. The problem seems to be with iCU and downloading profiles.)
Thanks for your help.I ran into same problem. I think ithis might be your problem . This fixed mine I had settings already set and tried to install on new ipad and wouldn't work wouldn't do anything just set there I hit install and never did nothing. What I did was del the settings for configuration and re set them all over again and boom it's worked it works fine for me now. Hope this helps

Configuring the default configuration profile for Profile Manager
Hello folks,
I would like to edit the default configuration profile served by Profile Manger. As far as I understand the only thing I can configure from the Server.app is the name of the profile. The settings for the different services provided by the server (such Mail, Messages, etc.) are automatically chosen by Server.app. When logging as an administrator on the Profile Manager webapp, I can go to "Groups", choose "Everyone", go to "Settings" to review the different payloads. However, almost none of the settings are editable. You can read "This payload is configured using the Server app" on the top of the various panels.
So my question is: How do you use Server to tweek those payloads? Can this be done using the serveradmin command line tool?
Thank you very much for your help.
RegardsBump. This is annoying the crap out of me. Every time I try to design a website using Coda, this color picker bug plagues me. I just wish I could turn off color profiles completely as I will never use them.

CM25 : settings of strategy profile
Dear
I have a question about the settings of CM25 strategy profile.
I need to activate the functions : set up time optimization , reschedule with production version and change production version on error.
With these settings the system can run when dispatch the planned orders a set up time optimization and simultaneously a rescheduling with available production version ?
Thanks for you help.Hi,
you can make temporary settings for strategy profile in CM25 itself and check if it works as you expect.
If it works successfully you can configure a new strategy profile in custimizing and add it to overall profile which can be used by CM25.
