Browser sliding off screen

Hi all. So I've had my Macbook Pro for almost 2 years and suddenly today, I'm having this issue where my browser keeps sliding off the screen, to the right. It's happening randomly and frequently. Even just now while I was in the middle of typing this. Any help would be appreciated.

Wow! It did. Thank you so much! It was really starting to drive me crazy.

  • Why are my windows sliding off screen?

So, I was on my Mac Book Pro doing work and I flick between different windows (FCP, Finder, Safari etc) using the cmd - Tab function. All works fine and all the windows stay on the screen.
However, I was doing something in finder when all of a sudden all the toher windows slid off scree to the left. Now whenever I use Finder the other widows slide off screen and when I tab back to use the other windows finder slides off to the right! I just want them all to be on the screen at the same time again!!
    Any ideas?

Not sure if you have solved your issue yet. But I had the same issue. Disable/trash iSnap. That's the culprit.

  • How to stop finder sliding off screen

    Hi,
I'm using a new MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Mavericks Version 10.9.3.The behaviour I want to change happens when I have a Finder window maximised.
If I open a file in the open folder, the finder "slides" offscreen, to the right, as the file opens. When I close the file, instead of the Finder window I see the desktop.
If I'm working through a folder with lots of file I have to check or alter, this is a massive waste of time. Can anyone tell me how to change the settings so that Finder simply stays open?
Any and all advice much appreciated. I've searched for solutions online, but nothing so far has worked. I'm relative new to Macs, and not being able to change this is very frustrating.
    Thanks
    Karl

    1. If an external display is connected and turned off, either turn it on or disconnect it.
    2. Open Mission Control. Close all desktops except Desktop 1 by positioning the cursor over each one and then clicking the X button in the top left corner. In Desktop 1, move the missing window, if need be, so that it won't be hidden behind the Dock.

  • Windows sliding off screen into vapor...

I'm using OS X Lion (10.7.4) and I'm about at my wits end.  I'm sure my problem is actually about my Magic Mouse.  I can be typing away and when I touch the mouse, the screen I'm on gets swept away (I think to the right, but I'm not sure about that).  When this happens, I get a blank screen that says to I want to leave the page or stay on it. Neither choice bring back the screen that disappeared.
I assume that I'm touching the Magic Mouse with more than one finger when this happens.  Is there some way I can disable this feature or can someone tell me what I'm doing to cause it to happen?  It's a PITA when I've typed several lines only to have to start all over.  I'm about to throw this mouse in the garbage can.
It probably has nothing to do with this problem, but when it occurs, I'm using my late '11 MBA.
    HELP!!!

have you tried using two fingers and swipe over the mouse toward the left to bring it back?
My mouse has done some surprising things too...I will look to see if there is a sensitivity setting...
SOmetimes I think I am about to scroll, but it zooms the page in..some times it jumps to showing mission control... ack.

  • FF4.0 Windows XPv3 drag tab to 2nd screen, drag bar off screen at top, close other browser window, shuts down both browser instances. BTW, look at how SAFARI does the drag tab to other screen, that is how!

FF4, drag 2nd tab to new window.
    2. top dragbar is off screen at top. I unmaximize the original screen, now that one also pushes the drag bar to the top off the screen. I resize the bottom of the screen and I can see a sliver of the top dragbar. If I close one browser window, both shut down. Auch!
Please take a look at how safari renders a second browser window when you drag one tab to the other window. Cool!

  • Spry Menu Bar jumps off screen-right in CS6

Frustrating little glitch I'm experiencing.  When in a NON-LIVE mode in CS6, I have a Spry Menu Bar that I've placed, customized and is functioning properly.  It is precisely in the right location in BOTH live mode and in a browser preview, however, when I am editing the site the menu bar jumps off screen right to where I have to scroll right to locate it.  The only thing that pops it back in to place is by tweaking a setting like "Float" from right to left then back to right.  But once I begin to edit the site again it will jump off the screen.  This isn't a massive deal since it remains in place in live and preview modes, it's just annoying for layout purposes while I'm editing.  It sort of screws up the aesthetic of the layout.  Has anyone found the same problem?  Below is my layout.css and my Spry Menu css.

  • Get an off-screen thumbnail from a webpage

Hello everyone! This is my first post on this forums.
I'm developing an application to get a thumbnail from a webpage, and save that thumbnail to a file. It has to be a "non-visual", off-screen appllication, because it will run on a machine with no screen. It has to render all, or almost all webpages.
The thumbnails created by this app will be used on another app which lists links from an user, like it's shown in http://del.icio.us ; what I want is to generate these thumbnails.
I've previously searched for a solution in this post: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=20&threadID=709683 , it is not exactly what I want. I need a real image to be generated, not only a page preview.
I've tried to use several java-based projects founded on Internet, but I didn't success because sometimes they render ok the page (using a window), but don't paint ok to file; sometimes they paint ok to file, but doesn't render ok the page (using a window) due to poor support of current HTML and CSS standards, as they are based on JEditorPane or the project is abandoned..
The best approach I have made is with Flying Saucer (https://xhtmlrenderer.dev.java.net/), it does exactly what I need, it has even a method to do this, but it is very rigid about standards and doesn't render "real world html". Related to this I've tried to get code from page, clean it with tagsoup and then pass the xhtml code parsed to Flying Saucer's renderer, but it still has problems rendering the majority of webpages.
Any ideas? Anything that can put me in the right direction is welcome.
    Thanks!

Hello 4fingers, and thank you for your answer and suggestions.
About the first one, it's a way, I'll annotate it but the goal it's to don't depend on others, this is going to execute on an automatic process, imagine if the service fails for some reason, the service is not available or it has ended...
About the second one, I knew existence of JRex through my search. I looked for an example and found this web: http://blogs.pathf.com/agileajax/2007/01/how_to_really_d.html , but I didn't even tried it when I read this tips that also are at that web (mainly, #1):
There are a couple of issues that complicate matters, however:
    1. JRex just won't run in headless mode. You have to have a display. On Linux you could use VNC.
    2. With the complication of classloaders, etc., JRex won't run easily or cleanly in Tomcat, Jetty, etc. Therefore I decided to use a simple embedded web server. This of course has its downsides, as a good servlet container provides you with a number of advantages.
    3. JRex is not a pure HTML renderer -- it is an application, that pops up dialogs, responds to user events, etc. There may be a way to just use it as renderer, but that documentation thing gets in the way again. As it is now, there is no way to tell whether the rendering was successful or whether the JRex component is stuck with a modal dialog telling the nonexistent user that the server was not responding.
    4. JRex is not a real Swing/AWT component. You can't use a Graphics object to paint it to an offscreen image; all you will get is a blank page. We need to capture the part of the screen that corresponds to the browser window. That means that the browser window needs to be on top and of the size you want to image. It also means we need one display per preview server if we want to scale. (On Linux you could scale with multiple servers and multiple X displays such as VNC.)
    5. We can only handle one request at a time per preview server as we only have one screen.
After that, the example goes into creating a JFrame, showing it on screen...
I found on my research the #1 with, for example, JDIC Browser, which is easy to deploy but when you render the panel to a buffered image you get a beautiful black screen :D.
Today I visited Cobra's renderer webpage, http://html.xamjwg.org/cobra.jsp, to see if they had released an update (0.97, also with a browser, "lobobrowser"), and they did, I tried it but it's the same result I got two weeks ago, it paints ok to image, but the page render it's still too bad. They are improving this as they say, so I'll keep an eye on this.
At least this project. Cobra, and Flying Saucer, aren't dead. If I find any solution I'll post here. And as always, any ideas are welcome.

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

  • Trying to get yahoo mail, says turn off Private Browsing, go to Safari, Private Browsing, turn off.  But Private Browsing is not there

I am trying to get to my Yahoo mail and ipad is telling me to turn off Private Browsing,  I go to Safari, Private Browsing to turn it off and I cant get to Private Browsing

Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off.

  • Using Firefox 26: Since PBS altered site, receive "An error has occurred ... please check if Private Browsing is OFF" continuously - Private Browsing is OFF.

Have used Firefox many years to view videos at video.pbs.org. Cannot tell which came first: Upgrade to Firefox 26 or PBS making changes to their website but I can no longer view any video at URL: video.pbs.org. As soon as that page comes up, Message dialog window with this text is displayed: "A [sic] error has occurred. For the best experience with this website, please check if Private Browsing is OFF."
If "OK" in dialog is hit, window disappears but reappears in a few seconds. Hitting "OK" on four or five repeats of this message screen results in the message box reappearing but with a checkbox line added with the text, "Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs." Selecting the checkbox makes no difference in the behavior. Dialog box continue to reappear even though a video can be selected and will begin playing until the dialog box pops up. At that time, playback is suspended but resumes after "OK" in hit. Dialog reappears approximately ever 4 seconds.
I have checked the Privacy Options and in about:config that private browsing is not started automatically and is not the default mode or auto started.
I am retired, do not have cable and live in an area where reception of a PBS TV station is problematic so viewing PBS video is my primary TV entertainment option.
Any help would be much appreciated.

When I search in the site's scripts* for this error, it seems to be related to whether the site can use local DOM storage. This is enabled by default in Firefox, but because it is considered cookie-like in nature, blocking cookies on the site will prevent use. So please check the following:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''storage''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) If the '''dom.storage.enabled''' preference is bolded and "user set" to false, double-click it to return its value to true.
Reload the PBS video site and try again. Fixed?
What is your cookie policy? If you have Firefox set to ask you every time whether a site can set cookies or not, I am reminded of an issue that arose in older versions of Firefox (I haven't checked recently).
If you allowed cookies in that dialog, it created exceptions for the full host name (e.g., video.pbs.org) but not the base domain name (e.g., pbs.org). Meanwhile, Firefox was checking whether a site could use DOM storage based on the cookie permissions for the base domain name. So the workaround was to manually create an exception for the base domain name yourself in the Exceptions dialog. You would do that here:
oranage Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
With "Use custom settings for history" selected, look for the Exceptions button to the right of "Accept cookies from sites"
Not sure whether that is relevant to you. Old threads for reference:

  • Windows move off screen when new app is opened

I have a user running 10.8.5. The user opens an application like Firefox or Safari. As soon as they open another application like Microsoft Word the browser or other application will shift off the screen. The finder is allowing only one window to show up on the screen at one time. I reset all keyboard shortcuts. Checked Mission Control, Launcher and couldn't find anything that would make this happen. They only have one display connected. I removed all the Office plist files and launched as a first time launch. I still can't find what is making the windows disappear or move off screen.
I logged on as a different user and the problem went away. So it has to be something in their profile that is causing this. Any ideas?

In OS X 10.6 and prior, Expose' and Spaces had a separate System Preference setting, along with hot corners. One of the options was to force apps to open in a new space.
That changed to become Mission Control with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. I haven't really used the feature in 10.8. I can't quickly find a useful Apple link, so I'll provide this 3rd-party 'Dummies book' link which might help you sort things out. Mouse and trackpad preferences also can be set to enable gestures that work in conjunction with Mission Control.

After the restore did the phone work properly for a while? Say, a day or so?
If so it is possible you have an app that doesn't let go of memory properly. I reboot my iPhone ( hold sleep/wake and hole till you see the apple logo) every few days. This resets the memory. The iPhone OS has doesn't seem to mange memory very well yet. So a reboot will help with that. I have had my phone almost slow to a stop before I started rebooting. Always reboot after installing a new app. Also do you close all pages in Safari when you are done? This is a good practice. Safari will run in the background and use processor time and drain your battery quicker. Create a new blank page then close all others when you are done browsing for a while. I have also found that certain web site that have animated images like weather maps will turn the phone into molasses. As soon as i close that page it gets faster.
If all of the above have no effect then as Tamara said it is time for a trip to the Genius bar.
    Good luck

  • SQL Management Studio -- Windows open off-screen!

I used to have three monitors hooked up to this computer, now I only have two. Most applications don't have any problem with this, except SQL Management Studio which keeps opening windows off the right-hand side of the screen which are impossible to move back on-screen! All I can do is right-click the window in the taskbar, then choose "maximize" to temporarily work with the window. (I don't want the window maximized, but that's the only way to make it visible!) Import/Export data wizard window does this, as does the "add new users to DB" window.
How do I reset window locations in SQL Management Studio? This is getting extremely annoying. And please, please fix this bug! It's the year 2007, your program should be able to cope with multiple monitors! (Imagine how many laptop users who hot-swap monitors all the time are running into this.)
    Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry if I gave the immpression that you couldn't move your screen around - and I did look into the bug. I would never knowingly lie to anyone. Once again, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Microsoft has looked into the bug, and in fact, we've done a lot of work on the mulitple monitor support in SQL Server 2008, as I mentioned in my post. You should see an improvement there.

Your last reply on this thread was telling me that, and I quote: "SSMS has no notion of monitors - it just uses whatever Windows says are there. If you will remove the monitor from the video card settings then SSMS will not show the screens on something that does not exist." Which is incorrect, as my screenshot in the next post proved. Normally when people make a claim, and it's refuted, they respond in some fashion.
The annoyance is that it took a full year (and an irate post from me) for you to respond to that screenshot, and it still seems like you're unclear about the issue. It has nothing at all to do with "I can't move my screen around". Let's review the repro instructions one more time:
    1) Start with a computer running Windows XP Pro and three monitors plugged in, arranged in a horizontal line. The center monitor is the default.
    2) Open SSMS. Maximize it in the left-most monitor.
    3) In the Object Browser, select a database, expand "Security", expand "Users", then right-click in the list and select "New User"
    4) Move the New User window to the right-most monitor and maximize it.
    5) Close SSMS, then re-open it and bring up the New User window again. Notice that SSMS saves the window position so that it continues to open on the right-most monitor. (This is good!)
    6) Now unplug the right-most monitor and restart the computer. Go to the Monitors property sheet to ensure that there are only two monitors listed, and that the right-most (of the two) is still the default monitor.
    7) Open SSMS, then bring up the New User window once more. Notice that the New User window now opens off-screen.
The irony is that this bug doesn't even apply to me anymore as, after about 6 months, I got my third monitor back. But for those 6 months, I was getting this behavior MANY TIMES A DAY, driving me completely and utterly furious and crazy each time, because it's such a stupid and moronic and easy-to-fix bug. I don't understand how your QA process could possibly have missed windows opening off-screen.
(Like you suggested, if SSMS actually ensured that windows opened on monitors that actually exist, this whole thing would be a non-issue.)
I don't know what you mean by "can't move my screen around," as this has nothing to do with moving or repositioning screens. It has to do with a window that opens off-screen, so that it's impossible to use the window without doing one of the ugly hacks outlined in this thread.
I'm glad SQL Server 2008 has "lots of work on multiple monitor support" and I'd be extremely happy if it did what you <i>claimed</i> SSMS 2005 did a year ago.
Sorry for the tone. It's so upsetting to me that bugs related to multi-monitor support could exist in a product in use in 2005, after a full decade of Windows supporting multiple-monitors. Isn't this stuff perfected by now? Doesn't Microsoft have any kind of minimal quality control process, and why isn't this on it? It's hard to express how frustrating this is, both the bug and the lack of response to it.
