Browser Speed Comparison

I'm about to purchase an Ipod Touch, likely the 8 gig model, gen. 3. I don't have tons of music nor do much video watching; the main use will be browsing/reading etc. I read that the 8 gig doesn't have the upgraded processor that the 32 and 64 gig models received, but how noticeable in use would this be? If it's just a few milliseconds, who cares, but actual 'poor' performance would encourage me to get the 32 gig. I've googled this topic thinking it would be of some interest to users, but no 'hits' on the topic. Thanks

Thanks very much for your quick response. That makes sense, of course. Even at home here with usually good wifi, results vary. One more question regarding the Touch; it appears there are legal, successful, 'apps' available where one can then have the abiity to 'text' someone's cell phone. Even if it's just a 'alert' type text to tell someone to check their AIM for a needed conversation. Do you have an opinion about this? Again, thanks.

  • Web page browsing speed drastically slowing down

I purchased a 13 inch mac book pro in December. Since day one, I have had a problem with my web page browsing speed drastically slowing down. These crippling slow down periods are completely random. They can start any time, and last from any amount of time. from minutes to hours.
95% of the time any attempt to load a page end in a time out. The other 5% takes no less then 90 seconds to load the simplest of pages. I have this problem no matter what browser I use (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera). What is driving me nuts is other applications work fine when browsing slows down. Skype, IM clients, multi-player games all work great, but web pages will not load. When I ping a website, my latency returns are perfectly normal. I can use Telnet and SSH with no problem.
This has become such a problem that I can not depend on using OS X day to day. I used boot camp to setup a windows partition and installed win 7. Using my win 7 install everything runs perfectly, I have had zero slow down!
I've done some searching and found numerous posts with similar problems. Ive read and followed the advice that I found, but I've had no success is fixing this.
I have had this problem on 6 different wireless networks. Each time this problem has come into play, my windows install performs flawlessly. This really makes me belive this is a software problem. Not hardware / ISP.
I see alot of post blaming default ISP DNS servers, just to let everyone know I use google's open DNS on my home network.
I also have changed the DNS settings in OS X
All other machines on my home network have zero problems!
Sending files between my laptop and other machines on my network works perfectly.
I have found a few posts / guides for using OnyX, none of them have worked for me
I have to be missing some simple thing here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the welcome and the quick response Glynn
I rebooted into OS X as soon as I read your response. Web pages would not load.
    I followed your instructions.
    The Airport Light was green.
I went ahead and hit assist me and ran the diag tool. According to the tool my internet connection is working correctly.
Sadly the problem persists and web pages still will not load in all four browsers.
I ran a ping to google.com and responses were well under 45 ms.

  • Fix for slow safari browsing speeds

I am experiencing very slow browsing speeds with Safari after upgrading my Macbook with 4G memory to 10.8.2. Other programs seem to to lagging as well.   What can I do to manage my open programs to speed things up?  Other ideas?

A number of people reported that Safari was running
very slow for them on Windows. I was someone who was
also seeing the same behavior. Web pages that would
open up in 2 seconds under IE7 could take literally
minutes to fully draw in Safari.
Your mileage may vary, but this really did work for
me. Nothing else I had tried (clearing the cache,
    re-installing, etc.) made a difference...but this
did. Not sure why it's not affecting everyone, but
this doesn't seem to have any negative side effects.
IE7 is still working fine for me with the
    "Automatically Detect" box unchecked.

  • Speed comparison iPhone 3GS and 4?

    Hi,
I am developing a game using Air 2.7 but I only have an iPad 1 to test it on. The speed is really good (a steady 60fps) but I'm a bit curious how fast it will run on 3GS.
Have you guys done any speed comparisons between iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4?
I guess the speed on iPhone 4 is about the same as iPad 1?
    Thanks,
    /Andreas

I have tested the same vector animations on iPhone 4, iPad 2, and iPhone 3GS. If you have selected to use high resolution, the performance on the 3GS and iPhone4 will be similar, because the iPhone 4 will have to update four times the screen area of the 3GS. The iPad 2 may be slightly faster, and I guess you may be right about the iPad 1 being similar to the iPhone 4. If you use standard resolution, the iPhone 4 may be the fastest of them all.

  • Slow browser speed

Slow browser speed on all browsers, but the downloading and uploading speed are normal according to speedtest.net. Ping is a bit high. Other computers in the house are fine.Already contacted ISP (Time Warner), modem is not the problemContacted Linksys router support, router is fine.

Make sure your OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click:   Software Update
Restarting a router and internet modem can help your browsers regardless of the speed test results.

  • Speed Comparison between Quadro FX 5800, 4800, 3800

Question: Speed Comparison between Quadro FX 5800, 4800, 3800
Both Adobe and Nvidia technical support said they do not have speed comparison benchmarks on the same Windows 7, 64 bit computer for both rendering and encoding between the Quadro FX 5800, 4800, and 3800. Does anyone know of such speed comparisons. Thanks in advance.

I just had a new computer built using a 6 core AMD processor and 16 gb Ram, cs5, etc.  Is it possible for me to apply your benchmark and how would I do it?
    Thanks,

  • Maxamize browser speed with Airport Express

Safari has recently become soooo slow; I've tried the tips posted by 'Bee" in Sept., 2005, but with no increase in speed and also tried Netscape Navigator and Explorer with no increase in sped. I think the slow speed is the result of my uneducated attempt to set my computer up as a server -- I changed around many of the settings on my airport network., but now I don't know what to change them back to.... What should my network settings be to achieve maximum browser speed? I am using airport express to connect to Road Runner on a G5 iMac.

The Express can only "repeat" or "extend" the quality of signal that it receives. It can help improve the signal strength....but it cannot make the signal that it receives go any faster.
Temporarily, power off the Express and move your laptop around to test the connection. When you see 10-15 Mbps, that is approximately where the Express needs to be located.
Power the Express back up at that location to test the connection.
Another rule of thumb...assuming no major obstructions....locate the Express approximately half the distance from the main router the area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you need full speed where the Express will be located, the only way to achieve this is connect the Express back to the main router using a wired Ethernet connection. The pros do this to maintain full bandwidth on the network.

  • Slow Browsing Speeds

I purchased this apple mac book a year ago and since purchasing it the browsing speeds have been terrible. tho only using broadband. i used the fiber optics at my moms work and it was fine there.
    so what gives?
i have tried changing my DNS servers but no change, and have used multiple connections via air port and LAN cable and nothing changes it.
Im not great with computers and have no clue what to do.

  • Is there a speed  comparison between xpath query

Is there a paper whit speed comparison between xpath query on XML, stored with all oracle's techniques?
Thank you and sorry for my english

Not currently. Since there are no industry standards for XML benchmarks that are accepted by all major vendors Oracle policy prevents us from publishing numbers. However if you have examples of what you are looking for I can give guidance.

  • Browser speeds in Mac and Windows

Browsers always seem to be faster using Windows than Macs. For instance, I am using a MacBook and Netscape 8.1 in Parallels runs considerably faster than any browser in Mac (Safari, Camino, Firefox, Opera, or Omniweb). The difference is greater on my home network -- wireless or wired -- than at work (T1 line), but the difference is clear at either location. Can anyone explain why this is so?
PB 12" and MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Macs and PCs obviously render web pages differently. Unfortunately, many web designed optimize their code for IE, leaving many people with pages taht render slowly or not at all.
Some things I have discovered to speed up my Mac. Go into the network sys pref and make sure that the type of connection you are using - ethernet or Airport - is listed first. Go into the configuration and turn off IPv6 or if it is off, turn it on. IPv6 is new and not all ISPs support it. Having it in the "wrong" state can cause a problem.
Also, if there is anything in the DNS server box, write it down and then use "4.2.2.x" where "x" is 1-6. Some DNS servers are slow and using those values on my Mac and PC made a big difference to me.

  • Please verify core duo vs. core 2 duo speed comparison

    Hi,
I was looking for RAM to upgrade my MacBook CoreDuo 512mb to 2gb, and found this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/MacBook/Testing/Memory_Benchmarks
If you go down, there is performance comparisons b/t core duo and core 2 duo, and between different size of rams. I am looking at photoshop result. Notice C2D 1gb is FASTER than CD 2gb.
Since I will be using Photo Editing Apps. to process RAW files, speed is my primary concern. Could you please verify this data? If this is true, I am going to consider selling my current MB and getting a new one with C2D.
    Thanks!

Performance comparisons vary from tests to tests. And even if you test the same machine 10 times, you will get 10 different results. But from looking at the data, it seems though that the differences are very minute.
Selling your CD MB to get a C2D MB would not be a smart investment for that small improvement in performance, but the decision is up to you. If you decide to upgrade since speed is your primary concern, why not opt for Macbook Pro?

  • Browsing speeds slowing down with my AE.  Is it Leopard or the AE? Opinions

I noticed after the 10.5.4 update that my browsing began to slow when connected to the AE. I've tried various browsers and they all began to function the same way--slow.
I thought maybe it had something to do with my AE so I connected my cable modem directly to my iMac and behold, I was browsing the net at lightning speeds again.
I've had my AE for a few months (it's not the new AE with "N" speeds), I'm wondering if it's the AE or Leopard. Also, I'm wondering if I can return it to the Apple store and get a new one?
My mac indicated that my AE signal is at full strength and the light is green on my AE, but the browsing can get slow.
Opinions? Should I try to return the AE to the store? What will hitting the reset accomplish?

Just for starters, did you save your network preferences to remember all Airport/wireless networks and have you stored the passwords in your keychain so they automatically connect?
You can even choose which network to join first and in which order. Such as your home network first, then school, then public wi-fi. Put them in the order of which you're at most. Then Airport will automatically find the ones stored in your computer.
Of course, if you've already done this, then it's either a Leopard "quirk" or your Airport card. (Which you probably already figured out).

  • Firefox startup and browsing speeds tediously slow.

I've repeatedly heard that FF is fast, but my experience is the opposite. I've tried fresh FF installations, fresh system installations, cleaning the registry, desktop, browser cache, etc. Nothing helps. Occasionally FF runs at a speed I find acceptable, but usually I wait several seconds for each page to load, and up to 25 seconds for FF to start.
If FF is fast for other users, can someone please suggest why it might not be fast for me?
FF 3.6.4, Win XP Home SP3, 1Gb RAM, 2.7 GHz CPU, 16 GHz + cable, virtually no installed software except Outlook 2003, word processing and outlining apps, and misc., e.g., Quicken.
I try to limit the number of open tabs to three or four, and the number of open apps to two or three. At the moment the only FF I have installed is Adblock Plus. Opera is fast. SlimBrowser is fast. I.e., given all the above, I cannot think of a logical reason FF should not be fast -- or at least reasonably so. Any ideas, please?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== If I recall correctly, FF 2.x was acceptably fast. Everything 3.x seems to run slower with each version.

Firefox seems to be getting flakier and flakier, and more and more bloated. I'm also having the problem that Firefox takes for ever to load on both my work and home PC.
I'm wondering if Mozilla are losing the plot a bit - Thunderbird is now virtually unusable if you have POP3 accounts (there are some work-rounds that would be completely baffling to any relatively new user), and Firefox is now slower than IE. These both used to be excellent apps.

  • Enhance browsing speed - firefox & mozilla

these guidelines are based on mozilla 1.7 and firefox 0.9, but reportedly they also work in earlier versions of each browser. the options differ slightly between firefox and mozilla, so adjust accordingly. i've shown in parantheses which browsers have which options.
to get started, type about:config in the address bar, and press <enter>. then change the following keys as indicated:
    1. browser.turbo.enabled - true (FF MOZ)
    2. network.http.pipelining - true (FF MOZ)
    3. network.http.pipelining.firstrequest - true (FF)
    4. network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - 32 (FF MOZ)
    5. network.http.proxy.pipelining - true (FF MOZ)
    6. nglayout.initialpaint.delay - 0 (FF)
Enabling the pipelining features allows the browser to make multiple requests to the server at the same time. The "maxrequests" is the maximum number of requests it will send at once. I've heard that 8 is the most it will send at once, but setting it higher won't hurt, just in case. The initialpaint.delay is the length of time (in milliseconds) after the server response before the browser begins to paint the page.
with those settings, most people report a noticeable speed boost in rendering pages. YMMV.
    have fun!

the  "browser.turbo.enabled" i didnt know, but pipelining is also in the Preferences of Moz:
    Preferences -> Advanced -> HTTP-Networking
i did search about this for short:

Has to do with what is now called "quicklaunch" (and which doesn't work on
Linux; this pref isn't used anymore.) I learned this from THE FIRST Google
    hit, BTW.
and about pipelining for surfing the web read this:
