Browsers difference

Hi,
www.ekongo.org
I tested this page on ie 6.0 it looked fine, but when i turned to chrome, firefox and safari (last versions) the page is a real nightmare.
More strange again is when i compare the situation with that of this other page http://www.ekongo.org/spectacles/spectacles.php
this time all the mentionned browsers show not significant difference.
I am pretty sure i approached both pages design about the same way. Can someone please help me point to where something went wrong please?
I will be passing deadline if i dont find a solution real quick (spent 80% of this project's time debugging and troubleshouting

It's no surprise that your page looks different on IE6.0 and Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. IE6.0 is at this point many years out of date. (See latest browser statistics: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp)
Of course, that does not help you much. Checking out the validation errors (see the first two links above) may solve some of your problems, though.
In addition to W3C validation tools, be sure to take advantage of the tools right in Dreamweaver. When errors are noted, solutions are noted as well, with a link to a help page.

  • How to keep all files in differents browsers

    I use differents browsers how to keep the bookmarks organised in all of them ?
    Is better url manager or Bookit ?
    Thanks

    What del.icio.us would do is make all bookmarks you create there available to any browser on any computer you happen to be using. It will not give you the same set of bookmarks in each of your browsers. I mentioned it because it has become a popular way of keeping bookmarks which is not dependant on any one browser and is available even when you are not on your own computer.
    The bookmark/url managers would be the better way to go to actually manage the bookmarks in your various managers. With them being shareware, you can try them out to see it they fit your needs before you would have to pay for them. The two I mentioned both got high user ratings on VersionTracker. You might be able to find other url managers there as well. It has been a while since I tried any url managers myself, so I cannot give a personal recommendation on any of these programs.

    When cross browser testing, make sure you have text size set to 100% (Ctrl+0) in all browsers.

  • What is the difference between aurora and firefox browsers?

    What is the difference between Firefox 9 and Aurora? Which one performs better?

    The Aurora builds are for testing code for future Firefox version. The Nightly builds (currently Firefox 12) always get the latest changes and patches first and such changes bubble down to other Firefox versions with a delay of about six weeks, first to the Aurora channel (currently Firefox 11) and then another 6 weeks later to the Beta channel (currently Firefox 10) that then gets the next release (Beta goes to release at the end of January). Normal users should always stay on the release channel.

  • Differences in browsers

    Okay before I start I know someone will tell me I shouldn't
    be building websites in layers, but I do and they work just fine
    for the most part. my question today is sometimes my layers don't
    line up the way I want them to when being viewed in Safari or
    Mozilla browsers. is there anything I can do to make sure my layers
    come out as perfectly in these browsers as they do in IE?
    thanksall, Ian

    Bregent,
    here's the weirdest example of browser failure (or is is web
    builder failure?)
    on the publications page on the www.sharigraydon.com site
    if you scroll down to the articles section, all the "view
    article" buttons
    seem to somehow be spaced out so as to make it hard to see
    what
    link button goes to which article. I suppose I could just
    make the
    name of the article the link and solve the problem, but I
    like the buttons
    and so does my client.
    what to do?

  • Site difference between three browsers

    I'm having some issues with broweser compatability. I've been using firefox as my main reference while working, but when I went into Chrome and Safari all of my images had sizing and distortion issues.
    www.gsld.net/civic2/civic2.html
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Definitely run the validator and clean up all errors.
    As for testing your site, you really should be looking at it in all of the major browsers as you go so you can catch errors before they start cascading into a giant mess.
    IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera are the bare minimum you should be testing in constantly.

  • Flash Differences between Browsers

    http://www.guygar.com/inception/fiction/
    Thank you for your interest; here is the issue I am having.
    The above URI with FLV movie renders fine in Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
    But when viewed in IE9 the movie displays strangely, somehow the movie is not rendered in full size filling the black border around it. Small gaps seem to appear.
    I have tried using different movie sizes but the issue is not going away.
    Any idea regarding if this is an IE or Flash bug?
    FYI: The aspect ratio for the movie is 2.4, if that means anything regarding a solution.
    Please help!

    Thank you for your input.
    I used the generated code my Flash to embed the movie and the same issue was displayed but when I added a <br /> tag before the player embed info the issue seem to go away.
    So I believe it is a matter of tracking down the bug somewhere.
    Any further help would be greatly welcome.
    Thank you.

  • CS3 - Spry Menu - Spans, CSS Differences in Browsers

    Hello,
    I'd greatly appreciate any help at all on these three issues from our website: www.r3mg.com
    -When I make this spry menu, I want the 4 different categories to be different colors. Thus, I’ve included a “span” inside the li and then another span inside the ul, which I know isn’t “proper” css. But I’m not sure how else to do it. Is there a correct way to do this?
    -When in Internet Explorer (8, in this case), the photography mouse-over has weird borders and a scroll thingy on it. But none of the others do. The rest of the menu is correct except for that one. You can see what I mean here… (iE8 - mess up view – FF - should look like)
    -In IE7, it takes the "about us" link and puts is on a line below "photography" and I'm not sure how to fix that for only IE7
    Thank you!!

    Hi Beth,  thank you for your help!  I'm just going to cut and paste your reply to show what I've done...
    Rather than using spans inside the li, style it in CSS by applying IDs to the sections you want to affect:
    <li id="home">Home</li>
    <li id="contactus">Contact Us</li>
    (I've left out the actual links, for clarity).
    I did this, except used:
    Branding
    and so on for my other two headings: web & paper
    Then, in the CSS stylesheet, do this:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li#home {background-color: red; color: white;}     /*use your own color choices, of course!*/
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li#contactus {background-color: orange; color: black;}     /*ditto!*/
    for the dropdowns, you can further style this way:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li#home li {background-color: pink; color: black;}
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li#contactus li {background-color: gold; color: black;}
    Obviously, use your own color combos!
    Here is where the issues lies, I think.  When I did this exactly, but with my colors and # headings, it did nothing.  I think this is because each of these words in the menu are all links.  So the question is, do I have to change the **  ul.MenuBarHorizontal a  ** CSS?  If so, I tried to do this using your example and it still didn't work.  I added new CSS codes of:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li#Branding a ul.MenuBarHorizontal li#Branding li a
    Then, I put these in the appropriate places in the SpryMenu on the html page.  All it did was make everything one color for the links.  So I must have done it wrong.   I have put the spans back in.  The only thing I've changed on the CSS now is to take the font color out of the original **  ul.MenuBarHorizontal a   ** and that now leaves it to the ugly default purple Dreamweaver uses on links.  This shows me that it's probably something to do with the "a" code in the CSS.
    Actually, your menus have some difficulties in both Firefox and IE8, but I see by your illustrations that it is really just that About Us is dropping to the next line. If you reduce slightly the width of each menu item, you will see this problem go away.
    In IE8, you are getting a scrollbar because the browser senses that you do not have enough height to your containing div, so the browser is very kindly adding the scrollbar. Even though it looks as if there should be enough height...! You can try doing border: 0px; for the submenus. If you want the border on the submenus, add height to the containing div to allow for the borders.
    .ulMenuBarHorizontal ul li {border: 0px;}
    I've tried doing this also and it still doesn't seem to be helping.  I've changed the height on the #header & #header-toolbar but it still left the scroll thing.  What I don't understand is why it does it only on the photography drop-down but not on the other ones.
    I hope this makes sense.  My head is spinning from trying to figure it out.  And again, thank you!

  • Difference in Browsers

    Hi,
    Running a Java Servlet, that calls Oracle Reports. Using Netscape 4.72, I can call and display the reports fine. Using IE 5.00.2314.1003, I always get a "Cannot find server or DNS error" when I try to call the Oracle Reports server to display the reports.
    Absolutely no code to change the calls based on the browser.
    Anyone have a suggestion?

    Problem:
    We were running into the following error intermittently (but

  • Differences in appearance when using a Mac vs. PC

    www.thecampuscocktail.com
    I used a PC to create the site, however I asked my roommate to test it on his Mac and the menu seems to have 2 rows on his computer. As is the width is too small? Before I went around changing my CSS I was going to ask if anyone knew of a way to keep the appearance consistent.
    He and I have tested the site on multiple browsers with both a PC and a Mac. No matter what browser he was using it was always messed up (on the Mac), while it was perfect on all of my browsers (PC).
    Thanks in advance

    This fails in Firefox 9.0.1 on the Mac.
    Here is what I was getting at with the font rendering difference from your CSS:
    ul.nav a, ul.nav a:visited {
        background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #8090AB;
        color: #000000;
        display: block;
        padding: 5px 5px 5px 15px;
        text-decoration: none;
    I would change the padding there from  5px 5px 5px 15px to  5px 5px 5px 10px and test again.
    Another way you could do this is to float your #nav RIGHT and do not make a left margin for the navigation. That way, if one of your buttons is larger (due to its being rendered slightly differently in one browser or another) it stays in line and simply starts your navigation a little more to the left.
    Make sense?

  • The difference between SSL & TLS

    dear experts,
    i need to know The difference between SSL & TLS and in which situations i should i have to use them.
    thanks
    Labib Makar

    Labib,
    At a 10,000 foot level v3.0 was superceded by . v1.0.
    TLSv1.0 (RFC 4346) was an upgrade to SSL v3.0 (but they don't interoperate)
    This "Cisco.com document" describes the workings of both in some detail:  SSL: Foundation for Web Security
    it states this as some basic differences:
    TLS uses slightly different cryptographic algorithms for such things as the MAC function generation of secret keys. TLS also includes more alert codes.
    Also See: Wikipedia TLS
    As far as which to use, it would depend on if both sides (server/client) support each?  TLS v1.0 or v1.1 is newer.
    Most modern Browsers tend to support both.
    i.e.
    Firefox 3.5.7 supported both SSL v3.0 and TLS v1.0
    Internet Explorer v6 supported both SSLv2, SSLv3, TLS v1.0
    etc.
    Hope that helps.
    Steve Ochmanski

  • I can not print from Firefox, but can from all other browsers and applications (such as MS Word, notepad, etc.). I get a print error on the printing monitor like it's a spooling problem.

    This is a recent development but I can not print anything from within Firefox. The print functions open normally, it is going to the correct printer which works..I can print from other browsers and applications. It acts like it is spooling and then a print error occurs and it won't print. I closed and reopened Firefox, opened it in safe mode, cleaned out history/cache/cookies, and rebooted twice. Nothing makes any difference. Also tried printing from the print preview which had the same result. I can print from all other browsers and applications without a problem so it must be within Firefox.

  • Can't find the server for a site, multiple browsers, multiple computers

    In recent weeks, possibly coinciding with updates in Firefox (running 3.6.10), Safari (5.0.2) and iTunes (10.0.1), I have only received the prompt, "can't find server" when attempting to connect to the site kcrw.com. Others can get it on their computers in other places, and my iPhone can access when on 3G, but our network here seems affected because all the computers [All macs, some laptops and some desktops, running on OS 10.5.8] here receive this message. I used to be able to go to this site, a radio station, and stream audio or download podcasts. My ISP ran a ping test to the site's server and said that went through, but the browsers and iTunes don't seem to be able to make the transformation to anything I can read. What kind of a problem is this? Apple care was no help either.

    HI Alice,
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Now click: Change Settings. That will prompted your System Preferences / Network pane. Make sure the Proxies tab is selected.
    If any of the boxes are checked under: Select a protocol to configure.
    That could be a factor. If there are, deselect, then click the OK button.
    Quit Safari. Relaunch Safari and see if that made a difference.
    If it's not a proxy issue, go to a website. If you see the "can't find the server" try reloading the page.
    Command + R
    Also, try Open DNS - Free / Basic . Includes anti phishing filters.
    And help here to manually add DNS. Topic : Manually provided DNS server addresses are higher priority than DHCP's

  • I'm trying to access an uncompleted app. on a gov't website using Safari 5.1. I receive a message saying the browser is incompatible with the website. It has been suggested that use Safari 5.0 instead. Must I delete 5.1 first, or can I have both browsers

    I'm trying to access an uncompleted app. on a gov't website using Safari5.1 I receive a message saying the browser is incompatible. I have been advised to use Safari 5.0. Must I delete 5.1 or can I use both browsers on my Mac.

    As above, there is more to Safari than just the App, however I dont like the changes in 5.1, so restored the 5.0 version of just the App and it functions just like it used to
    It might not work for you, and it can just be deleted if it doesn't, not sure how easy it is without time machine
    go into Finder and Applications folder
    enter time machine (it will default to app folder)
    find a date that you had 5.0
    click to restore it (Do Not restore into original location, restore it to desktop to test it)
    When this has been done, run Safari from your desktop and see if it fixes your issue
    I have been using this version done like this for a couple of weeks and it is fine, I did copy it to the Application\Utitlities folder along with some other older software I have, then made this one the version on my dock
    If it doesn't make any difference just delete Safari.app from your desktop
