BROWSERS FOR OS9...2.2

Hi everyone - I've been using OS9 for years with Outlook Express and Internet Explorer but now have a warning message from my ISP stating that it cannot fully support those Browsers plus the fact that the same Browsers no longer fully support OS9 anyway. (I'm on the last - 9.2.2) so I'm compelled to ask of you all: What Browsers are recommended for my OS9..... ?
I've even been using the same browsers in OSX..3.9 but can of course use Safari.
All suggestions wellcomed.

I recently upgraded my G4 Mac to OSX and LV7.1.
Some of the machines that I'm developing executables for still run OS9.
So, what I would like to know is if is a way I can generate executables for OS9 from LV7.1?

Sorry this is not possible. ClassicMacOS is only supported until LV7.0 so you need to save your VIs in LV7.1 explicit for LV7.0 and use a LV7 in your Classic environment. Take the ''for previous version'' saved VIs to Classic LV7 and build the app there... et voilà ...you will have a stand alone for the good old MacOS987. What other environment lets you compile stand alones for two entirely different platforms?

Supported Browsers for Captivate 4

Can someone please list the supported browsers for version 4 of Captivate? I've scoured the web site and am coming up dry. They are really pushing version 5 now. I even called support, who later transferred me to sales, and neither could tell me what browsers are supported for version 4 - they only wanted to sell me a newer version.
I work for a non-profit children's hospital. We are finally trying to upgrade from IE6 to a newer browser, and I just need to make sure our version 4 files will be compatible. Thanks in advance!

I stand to be corrected on this, but...
I don't believe it's the browser that's the concern here. The browser uses either the Flash ActiveX control (IE) or the Flash Add In (Netscape, Mozilla Gorilla and others). So it's the Flash component that matters.
I do suppose there could be some concern with 64 bit systems, but even though I'm using a 64 bit system I'm able to see Captivate movies just fine in my browsers (IE and Firefox)

Disk Permissions for OS9 Partition?

I am running 10.3.9 and OS9 on separate partitions. What are the correct disk permissions for OS9 when running in OSX. When I install from the restore disks it only lets me install on the OSX partition(owner-root/group admin). I have dragged the OS9 system folders over to the freshly formatted OS9 drive but my permissions on that drive are owner-mbell/group-mbell. Should I change the disk permissions to the same as the OSX drive or will they work with myself being the owner of the drive?

Oh well, it was worth a try. Perhaps there are extension conflicts or something. Thanks anyway for the suggestions. I think I'll just switch over to OSX when I need to on the machine in question. Chicken of the VNC works like a charm.

Menu Bar CPU Meter for OS9?

Does anyone know of a menu bar CPU usage monitor for OS9
similar to MenuMeters for OSX? I find this a very useful, informative utility in OSX, but when I open Classic it disappears from the menu bar. VersionTracker doesn't seem to offer anything like this for OS9.

Hello! I don't know of one but I have noticed that anytime the menu bar gets filled up by a program's menu items the menumeter gets hidden. A different screen resolution might allow more items to occupy the bar. Tom

BSP's with htmlb - Tags on Browsers for Apple Computers

Hello,
I have a question. I use htmlb - Tags in a lot of BSP's. At the most Browsers for Windows Systems there is no problem, but at the Safari Browser or the Internet Explorer for Apple Mac OS X the Sites with htmlb - Tags won't work.
Does anybody know why?

Actually on Friday we got an official update on the question of Safari support. In summary SAP will <b>not</b> natively support the Safari browser. However, what we will do, for <u>design2003 only</u>, is to recognize the Safari browser as an IE6 browser. The official statement is that what works, works. No code changes will be made to handle any special cases of Safari browser. It is acceptabled that Office Integration, handling of PDF documents and any ActiveX stuff will not work.
This change should be in 620SP46 or SP47. If you should be in a hurry, consider to modify our browser recognition code already now.

The browsers for my applications are much too big

A certain cat walked across the keyboard of my macbook pro and now the browsers for my applications are much too big. I am unable to scroll all the way down. i tried the standard "command +/-" but it isn't working. Please help! Here are two screenshots, the first in iMovie and the second in Word (i just installed the 2011 update but am unable to get past this screen because i can't scroll all the way to the bottom.)

no problem. Also, if you go onto Displays in system preferences, you can select the box in the bottom left, which will then put a display icon in the top right so you can click it and quickly change the display resolution back if such a problem happens again without going into system preferences.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any web browsers for the e51 that allow the use of proxy settings?

Does anyone know if there are browsers for the playbook other than the one that comes pre-installed? I find having and 2nd or even a 3rd browser sometimes comes in handy.

Internet browsers for 10.1

How can I upgrade my browser? I want to try Safari but you require 10.2 or above. I'm currently using IE5.1. But I'm having problems from some sites saying I need to upgrade. Firefox needs 10.3 or above. Any suggestions for internet browsers for 10.1 will be appreciated.

As Niel says, Opera and iCab have browsers that work in OS X 10.1.x. iCab is the only browser whose current version will work in 10.1.x. Opera, along with Camino and OmniWeb offer earlier versions that will work under 10.1.x.

-23045 AuthNameErr in Mac Manger for OS9 after upgrading to 10.4

Hello all. We have recently upgraded our G4 based Xserve from 10.3 to 10.4 Server. In the process because of several network changes done over this holiday season I also had to change the IP address of this server from 10.0.16.45 to 10.1.12.230. At that time I also changed the DNS records to point to the new IP Addy.
Since then when a user logs into a OS9 Client machine they are able to login with their password properly however they are give the error code "-23045 Unknown Error" and told that their home directories cannot be mounted. They can then either say yes and go into the machine anyways without their personal settings or say no and go back to the login screen. Now our server has dual Copper NICs and a 1000SX Fiber card as well. For years we used the Fiber card with the IP 10.0.16.45, but with the addition of Link Agg to 10.4 I now have them all in use. The Fiber card kept its original IP address, but I added the new IP (10.1.12.230) to the Link Agg.
All of our DNS records point to the Link Agg (10.1.12.230) currently. I was hoping to do a way with the old IP all together, but when we found this issue I reenabled it.
I have done some net research and in the process have found that most posts say this error has something to do with DNS in a lot of cases. I did change our DNS records when I made the change to the server. I even added PTR records as noted in Apple Mac Manger Mailing list, but still no luck. In our setup I do not use LDAP AFP mount points for home directories. In Workgroup Manager everyones home dir is just /home/teacher which worked fine before. We currently haven't evolved up yet:>
In my testing I have found that if I do change a user over to use an AFP point instead of the vanilla way they do in fact work and login, but its horribly slow! I went into the Share section of Workgroup Manager and checked off /home/teacher to be and LDAP AFP mount point. I then changed a user to have their home dir there then instead of the old way. I could login and everything appear to work. However the wait time on login and logout was longer then usual. We do have the MMLocalPrefs Extension enabled so we do expect some login delay, but it is sooo much worse in this configuration. I tested out general AFP share point directly
through the chooser on nonMM machines, Windows Filesharing, FTP access, and also Server to Server transfers (we also have a newer G5 Xserve I put 10.4 on as well which has the dual Link Agg.) In all of those cases File Transfer was very very fast.
One more weird thing I noted. I thought maybe now that I made changes something could be up with MM itself. I logged in as SysAccess and then launched the Mac Manger Admin piece. I was looking at our Student group who mounts up a directory at login which is where we keep Reading Counts. Now when I was looking at the volumes section it says "MSE on 10.0.16.45" which was the old IP. I removed it from the list and saved. Swapping back to the chooser real quick I mounted MSE manually using the new IP 10.1.12.230. I went back into the MM client and moved MSE back over to the right pane for mount on login. Again it said "MSE on 10.0.16.45" Still the old IP even though I used the new IP to mount it. I tried this test a bunch of different ways trying to force the mount as being on 10.1.12.230 but was never successful. This test sorta tells me that for some reason something in MM is holding on to the old IP. If thats so that makes sense why the error code would be saying the name isn't right.
I read another post on the above mentioned list where someone mentioned that they formatted their clients and this problem went away. Though I don't want to this I kinda wonder if theres some sort of On Client cache of MM info or maybe even a file in my users own personal perfs which is causing this issue. If so what would be the proper way to go about working that issue out.
So above is what all I know. I want to run some new tests Tuesday to try to track this issue down further, but in the mean time I figured it wouldn't hurt to post here so that maybe someone with Experience in old school Mac Management may know the answer or have better suggestions:> Thanks.

I called Apple Educational support and more or less they told me that the way I was doing home dirs isn't possible anymore in 10.4. So I changed over to AFP LDAP points and its working now. Still a tad bit slow, but thats a question for another post.h
