Browsing album artwork

Just downloaded version 7. a messsage in album cover view states: "itunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer". any idea why and how to get it to show the album covers? thnx.

Hey, i have the same problem! The playback works fine except for the "browsing cover" feature affecting my library, as well as the store. In fact the store is even worse, when i go to the store's movie or video section i get the "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer" error and then it quits!!! Grrr...very frustrating!

  • Browsing album artwork on my laptop

I updated itunes to the new version (7.0.2 or something). I downloaded album artwork.
I was able to view the artwork in the "jukebox" area (on top).
One day, all the artwork went away. Message says - "itunes is unable to browse artwork on this computer".
I've reinstalled, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.
I still cannot get my artwork back.
    Why?

Are you using a Windows-based PC?
If so, cover flow relies upon your video card's 3D acceleration and DirectX.

  • Cannot browse album artwork

Recently, I had to do a complete re-install of everything on my computer. Now when I use I-tunes, my album artwork is not displayed on any song. I get a message stating that album cover artwork cannot be displayed on this computer. It had displayed previously and I cannot find a setting to allow it.

    XP Pro and ATI users... Go to Start>Run type dxdiag. Go to the "Display" tab. Click "Test Direct 3D". If you get the following message "3D: Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)" and a few other similar messages. Download and install the older 7.8 version of the ATI catalyst drivers from here;

    Restart... AND..... BINGO.
I hope this works for you as well... you never know, but at least coverflow works for me now... Rock On... 5co77y

  • Party Shuffle: "iTunes is unable to browse album artwork on this computer"

    Hello
I have recently had to completely wipe and reformat my hard-drive, after the Operating System started running really slowly. I'm now back up to speed and everything's great, including iTunes.
However, when I go to run the Party Shuffle, I get the above error message showing. Whilst this doesn't interfere with the functionality of the application, I was wondering if there was perhaps some additional component that needed to be installed in order to make iTunes able to display the artwork. For what it's worth, I can view the artwork in the Artwork Browser, just not in Jukebox mode.
None of this is a showstopper, but I know that I used to have this functionality and now I don't.
    TIA.

  • Computer Can't Browse Album Artwork

Ever since downloading the latest iTunes store update I can't browse artwork in my library. This issue only affects my desktop. My laptop is fine because I haven't gone through the software install. Do I need a specific driver upgrade?

*when I asked it to go for the album art on the screen where you would see the art*
I'm not sure which screen you are actually referring to (Cover Flow or the artwork tab in Get info). However if it's Cover Flow have a look at this troubleshooting page, it may be of some help: iTunes 7 for Windows is unable to display album covers in Cover Flow

  • Suggestion: Browse by album artwork

I love my 40Gb iPod Photo. I love to look at it and hold it and basically just have it on me while I'm out and about. I love to use the most beautiful hardware interface ever designed with just one digit and I am quite happy to accept the compromises that come with that simplicity.
However, I was hoping for some improvements to the usability of the software with new updates but these have not materialised. I know that usability is one of the cornerstones of Apple design so I am almost surprised that the iPod software has not been improved upon. My main ideas are:
    1. Browse by album artwork. Any psychologist will tell you that a picture is much more easily remembered and that so many more associations can be made with a picture than with text. When I think of being able to scan through album covers in the same great way that I can scan through photos and then pressing select to listen to that album, I get excited at the possibility. People love their music collections and will happily play the game of "name that album" when shown the artwork. The name of the album could be shown in the title bar anyway. It would be so much easier to decide what to listen to when scanning through 40Gb of music by looking at the pictures than by looking at the names of the albums in text seven at a time.
    2. Easier shuffling. Apple themselves discovered how much we like to use shuffle so why not make it more available, more than just putting 'shuffle all' on the front menu. Mostly I listen to one album at a time so I don't want to have shuffle on all the time but whenever I listen to a genre of music or a compilation album, I always want to shuffle those. Only having the option of 'shuffle on all the time' or 'shuffle off all the time' seems like a cop out and needs a lot of clicks to switch from one state to the other. Why not have [shuffle album] at the end of every album? or [shuffle all] below the 'All ->' option when browsing the menus?
    3. Pressing the select button takes you to a screen showing all the info in the tag file for that track. Then I could see what notes I've made on it and basically find out more about it. It's another way of saying "I like this track", like rating it, which is a satisfying thing to do.
Sorry for the long post but if you feel the same way then please say so and perhaps someone at Apple will take note.
If there is a better place for suggestions, let me know.
    Cheers,
    Nick

Ooo, satifying feedback. Surely now Apple designers will see the brilliance of the ideas and take them all on board without quibble! Thanks for that Jeff.
I'd be interested to know if anything like this has been implemented in the 5G.
I'd also be very interested to hear what you all think.

  • Sharing album artwork with fast user switching and soft links

We have 4 users, 4 iPods, 4 sets of playlists. Each has their own account. All the music lives on an external drive and each iTunes is set to store its music in the same shared folder. That all works fine.
Now we're getting into album artwork, and I want to share that too. I found a posting somewhere that suggested a soft link from /Users/Me/Music/iTunes/Album Artwork -> /Volumes/BigDrive/iTunes Artwork. I did that with one user and it worked fine - copied Album Artwork folder and set soft link and voila, all the art. I also set all permissions to allow r/w from everyone.
But when I set the soft link from 2nd user, iTunes shows no art. I can browse all the art files fine from that users Finder.
    Thanks for any help!
mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iTunes 7.1.1

And just like that I may have found the solution! IT suddenly occured to me that one of the settings that got changed when we imported my wife's profile was a change to the sleep settings. Previously, I had had my iMac set to never go to sleep, since it shares our media with the rest of the house and runs eyeTV to record TV shows and such. For a little while after my wife's account was imported the settings to changes so that the computer would go to sleep after 15 minutes. I'm not totally sure why, but I think having that set up somehow meant that when we switched accounts my other account just "went to sleep" and therefore stopped sharing the iTunes library. After I noticed the change and switched the computer back to "never" for sleep the problem seems to have stopped.
So perhaps check your sleep settings? That seems to be the only change I can think of that got things working correclty for me. I'll keep digging though and see if I can find any more helpful info. Good luck!

  • Can I use multiple Album Artworks in iTunes?

    Hi everyone.
So I have a 5 disc Album in my iTunes library. & I have artwork for each disc & then the album itself. I'd like to be able to use the artwork for each disc, so that every track has the corresponding artwork for the disc that its from. But I'd also like to use the main album art, so I can see it when browsing through my albums. But I can't find a way to do this.
I already know how to give each disc in one album its individual artwork, I've already done that. But I can't find a way to use the main album art just as a cover for the album, without it replacing every tracks album art.
Is this possible, at all? Thank you!

You can give track 1 of the first disc the main album artwork. That should show when you play track 1 at top of the screen and when browsing albums. All other tracks would then show the individual disc art at the top when played or in the mini-player with the artwork panel showing.
FWIW you can embed multiple images in each track but iTunes doesn't have a way to show them automatically.

  • Windows 7, Itunes 10.3.1.55. "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer".

I just built a new Computer and sucessfully moved my iTunes Library and music over (Windows 7, Itunes 10.3.1.55).  I am getting a message on the cover flow view that states, "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer".  This Cover Art is showing in all other views, so it is there.  I upgraded QuickTime and even install Safari.  This did not work.  I have a very large music collection and prefer the coverflow navigation.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I too am having a very similar problem with cover artwork in Itunes version 10.3.1.55 for my Windows 7, 64 bit computer. Certain Artists or Albums cover art will not show up and also when I try to manually add my own cover to the album it does not save. I can however, view with the coverflow option but its useless without all the cover art. I would greatly appreciate any help with fixing this very annoying problem.
I've looked into the direct x suggestions and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Thanks anyway, Polydorus.

  • Deleting album artwork from Itunes 6 after upgrading to Itunes 7

I recently upgraded to Itunes 7, and I want to delete some of my album artwork that I added in Itunes 6. I backed up my entire library and imported it into Itunes 7 after I installed it. Some of my album artwork consists or low-res clipart, and I want to update my entire library with new album artwork. When I choose "get album artwork", Itunes doesn't update my music with the new artwork. I also tried the "get info" submenu, and there isn't any artwork listed in the window, though it shows the artwork in the album srcolling window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This info is included in the song tag, you have to edit the individual song tag to change the artwork. To do this, right click on the song with bad artwork, then choose the first option "get info". A box will open, click on the artwork tab (you may have several pieces or artwork here--delete the ones you don't like. It's possible the good art you want will be one of the choices. Make sure this appears first in the list and then you'll see it in iTunes. If you need to add the artwork, click the add button and browse/find the artwork you want to add.
    Hope this helps!

  • Get Info does not allow me to manually add album artwork

    Hello,
I am trying to manually upload album artwork on iTunes with my Windows PC (Windows 8.1 64 bit).  I followed all of the steps for doing this as outlined here in the Help section.  I did a Google search, found the album artwork in JPEG format on the internet, and then saved it to a folder on my hard drive. I then went back into iTunes, right clicked on the album that is missing its artwork, and clicked the "Get info" button.  When the next screen opens I select the "Artwork" tab, and then I select the "Add Artwork button."  This opens up a browser for my file directory, and then I went to the folder where I  saved the album artwork and double clicked on the particular JPEG I wanted to add for the CD.  The JPEG was immediately loaded onto the screen, and everything looked good to go. However, when I hit the "OK" button to select this uploaded album artwork which is loaded on the screen, for whatever reason iTunes does not save it, and the album artwork icon for the CD remains blank. Let me know where I am going wrong, or if this is a bug that needs to be addressed.
Also, I have a program called Music Collectorz that I am using to catalog all of my CDs as I burn my collection to iTunes.  For those CDs in which the Collectorz program cannot automatically find or identify the appropriate album artwork on its own, I can open up the Collectorz program's own version of "Get Info" and select "Find Cover Art."  By doing this, the Collectorz program automatically does a search on the internet--without me having to leave the Collectorz program--and retrieves several "hits" it located for the missing artworkwhich it displays on another window within the program. I then simply double click with the mouse on the photo of the artwork file I want to upload to associate with the particular CD, and it is automatically uploaded and associated with the CD. Also, the Collectorz program will only allow you to upload artwork that is saved in file formats and sizes that are supported by the program like JPEG files.
It seems to me that Apple should have an easy way like this to manually add album artwork in iTunes. I should not have to do a separate Google search outside of the iTunes program, then save a JPEG to my hard-drive in another folder, and then go back into iTunes to add (or try to add) it to a CD's profile.  This is a waste of time, and involves several unnecessary steps.  This process should all be incorporated through the iTunes program as a one-stop shop method.  I should never have to leave the iTunes program to add any artwork ever.
I look forward to your response on this.
    Thanks,

I assume that there are legal restrictions on the way in which iTunes can get artwork automatically from any source apart from the iTunes Store (which is what the right-click > Get Album Artwork function uses).  For example, even though the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to match CDs and retrieve metadata (artist, album, track titles, etc.) also has artwork functions, iTunes does not make use of these.
For manual addition of artwork, there are three cases where the image you select may not be correctly embedded in your media files:
your media are in a format that doesn't accommodate embedded artwork - typically WAV files.  To embed artwork you'll need to convert to another format - Apple Lossless or AIFF if you want to preserve lossless quality, AAC or MP3 otherwise.
your media files are read only - to fix this, use Windows Explorer to find the folder that contains your files, right-click and select Properties.  On the General tab there's a check box labeled "Read-only" - if this is checked, or is grey (sometimes blue), click the box so that the flag is unchecked and the box is white.  Click OK, and then OK again when the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option selected.  Now try adding the artwork again.
Windows permissions issues are preventing iTunes from updating your media files (there's some anecdotal evidence of a change in this behavior in iTunes 12).  See turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on fixing this, then try adding the artwork again.

  • Album artwork and song names do not download. How do I get this to download.  Submitting is not working

album artwork and song names do not download. How do I get this to download.  Submitting is not working

    Hello!
I own a small company and we are having the same problems.
IE9 is not working with the latest flash update infact the update has messed up flash complety for all sites once installed.  I went to YouTube eariler and it warned that I needed to install to the new Flash Player upon instaling and returning to YouTube it had the same message. This led us to download both the x86 and x64 versions and useing the uninstaller went through each one and tried the updates. None of the downloadable updates from Adobes site works. I have also loaded up Windows XP in a virtual machine and trying IE 8 with the latest updates and it as well does not work and does the same thing upon updateing it just keeps saying to install the latest update allthough it has allready been done!
Now on the other hand I loaded FireFox and it had the same update and upon restarting the browser after applying the update and it works just fine!
Im on a Windows 7 x64 Ultimate box and ran the WindowsXP in the VM. FireFox was loaded on the main OS and worked fine after said update.
Of Course I have allready double checked the running addons in IE 9 and the files within the /system32/ and all the flash files go there (x86 and x64 were differnt named files)
Im guessing there is something conflicting betwen IE (IE 8 and 9 tested)
Now this is not just happining on this machine but all of our desktops and laptops no one has any trouble with FireFox working
Also this will break all flash objects in IE even localy as now no flash works it acts like it is not installed.
Guess will see how long this takes to get fixed or aknowledged...  lol
