Browsing other devices' file system.

I figured out that a Nokia 9500 does not act as a PDA when connected with other devices. While from a PDA u can see a Nokia 9500 file system, from a Nokia 9500 u can't see the other device file system and browse it. Am I missing something?

It's the PDA that's missing something... security rules and regulations! You have never been able to browse the file system of another device from Nokia phones that I know of.
This is something about other manufacturers that really disturbs me... does nobody else think that potentially this could lead to serious security issues??
PS. If any Nokia people read this, thanks... and please don't adopt this in future either!

  • OPS/RAC Vs Raw Device/File System

Hello, firts to all, I want to know what is OPS/RAC and Raw Device/File System.
And then know the diferens between both.
    I apologize for my english.
    Thanks.

OPS is Oracle parallel server was available up to Oracle 8i and RAC is Real application cluster is available from Oracle 9i.
Raw device is just presenting the disk to server and using it. File system is presenting disk more transparent and managable form using OS or third party software.
You need to refer respective documents to know them in detail.

RAW DEVICE와 FILE SYSTEM 간에 오라클 데이터화일 이동하기
    ======================================================
유닉스 명령이 dd를 이용하여 오라클 데이터화일을 Unix File System과 Raw
Device 간에 이동할 수 있으나, 플랫폼 별 Raw Device의 특성으로 인하여 주의할
점이 있다. 만일 잘못된 이동으로 인하여 데이터베이스가 기동하지 못하면,
ORA-7366 (sfifi: invalid file, file does not have valid header block.)
    - 현재의 위치: /dev/rdsk/c0t15d0s7
    - 이동할 위치: /oracle/file/system.dbf
    - 화일의 크기: 488636416 bytes <--- V$DATAFILE.BYTES column 값!
    - DB_BLOCK_SIZE: 2048 bytes
    (준비 단계)
    1. Oracle 블럭 수 계산:
    BYTES / DB_BLOCK_SIZE = 488636416 / 2048 = 238592 (블럭)
    2. O/S file header 블럭 추가:
    238592 + 1 = 238593 (블럭)
    : "ls -l /oracle/file/system.dbf" 명령으로 확인 가능하며, O/S file
    header는 1블럭으로 항상 일정함.
    3. Raw Device OS header 블럭 계산:
    64K / DB_BLOCK_SIZE = 65536 / 2048 = 32 (블럭)
    : 사용할 dd 명령어 중 블럭의 크기를 DB_BLOCK_SIZE(2048바이트)로 할
    예정이므로 2048로 나누어야 함.
    (명령어 형식)
    $ dd if=<raw device> of=<UFS file> bs=<oracle blocksize>
    iseek=<blocks to skip> count=<total count>
    (명령어 수행 절차)
    (1) SVRMGR> STARTUP MOUNT
    (2) SVRMGR> !dd if=/dev/rdsk/c0t15d0s7 of=/oracle/file/system.dbf
    bs=2048 iseek=32 count=238593
    (3) SVRMGR> ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '/dev/rdsk/c0t15d0s7' TO
    '/oracle/file/system.dbf';
    (4) SVRMGR> ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    ========================================================================
반대로 Unix File System에서 Raw Device로 이동하는 명령어 형식은 아래와 같다.
    (명령어 형식)
    $ dd if=<UFS file> of=<raw device> bs=<oracle blocksize> \
    oseek=<blocks to skip> count=<total count>

  • Write access other file systems - NTFS, extX, reiser?

    Hi,
I've purchaseda Media NMH410 to connect to my WRT160N router and am having difficulty gaining write access to my connected USB drives. I've tried NTFS, extX and reisfer file systems, and none of them will allow me write access when connected to the hub. I can't go with fat32 because of the 4GB file size limitation. The Mediahub really should also be able to write to NTFS considering most every other linux disitribution these days can.
I expected that since the box is a linux system it would be able to access read/write other linux file systems so thought I could move my data to a linux file system. I've learned to expect encountering access problems with NTFS but am very disappointed the MediaHub is presenting these access problems with other linux file systems.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to gain write access to my other drives. Is there a setting somewhere, or do I need to format in a particular fashion w/switches or something to that affect. And why isn't the hub able to write access another drives formatted even in the same file system (reiser, right)?
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.
    Jacqui

    Hi,
It might just be a system limitation on the device.
    JacquelineGoguen wrote:
    Thanks.
I had followed that thread. The problem is I can't go fat32 b/c of file size limitations and I have to be able to write to these drives across the network.
It appears the Mediahub can ONLY write to external USB devices if they are FAT32? That just seems so odd to me - it's a linux Oistro (albeit slimmed down), I would expect it to have the ability to write to other linux filesystems. or at a minimum, the same filesystem (reiser).

  • Globaldevices file system

    Hi
    Solaris Cluster 3.3 u2 on Solaris 10 x86.
I have dedicated slice for global device file system. During the cluster creation, i have not chosen the default method which is lofi method.
    For node "node1",
Is it okay to use this default (yes/no) [yes]?  no
        Testing for "/globaldevices" on "node1" ... done
    For node "node2",
Is it okay to use this default (yes/no) [yes]?  no
        Testing for "/globaldevices" on "node2" ... done
After cluster creation, i am seeing lofi device for /global, i am not seeing the slice which i used for /globaldevices is used.
    # mount | grep lofi
    /global/.devices/node@1 on /dev/lofi/127 read/write/setuid/devices/rstchown/intr/largefiles/logging/noquota/global/xattr/nodfratime/onerror=panic/dev=240007f on Wed Oct  9 07:30:23 2013
    /global/.devices/node@2 on /dev/lofi/126 read/write/setuid/devices/rstchown/intr/largefiles/logging/noquota/global/xattr/nodfratime/onerror=panic/dev=240007e on Wed Oct  9 07:30:23 2013
    # mount | grep globaldevices
    /globaldevices on /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3 read/write/setuid/devices/rstchown/intr/largefiles/logging/xattr/onerror=panic/dev=840083 on Wed Oct  9 07:30:07 2013
    # lofiadm
    Block Device             File
    /dev/lofi/126            /.globaldevices
    # du -h /.globaldevices
    1.0G   /.globaldevices
Someone clarify me why the cluster used lofi? Since i have a dedicated slice for /globaldevice, why the cluster created lofi again ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shashi Kanth.

    Hi.
    According
Planning the Oracle Solaris OS - Oracle Solaris Cluster Software Installation Guide
In case you want have use /globaldevice as separated slice, you should:
    1.  Create UFS file systems on required device. You require at least 512 MB.
    2. Add record for this device to /etc/vfstab
    3.Mount /globaldevice.
In this case cluster installation script will not create /globaldevice on lofi.
    Additional requirements:
Planning the Global Devices, Device Groups, and Cluster File Systems - Oracle Solaris Cluster Software Installation Guid…
    You can use this procedure:
Administering Device Groups - Oracle Solaris Cluster System Administration Guide

  • Writting documents to data base or to a file system?

I have this facility to write documents to the database. The DBA wants to change it to a user file systems.
What is the best practice? Where can I find documentation about it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Using which technology ?
With java it is quite easy and you have lot of example in th JSP/Servlet code that explain how to upload from the browser to a file system.
Within PLSQL it is different since it is running inside the DB so you'll have to use output package to put the content of the blob in a file.

  • Network file system

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how can I create a program that will allow me to share file between multiple operating systems like windows and linux in a network.Basically I want to create a network file system browser between heterogeneous file systems.

http://jcifs.samba.org/ May help with Window's shares.
http://j-ftp.sourceforge.net/ This is a client that supports lots of protocols and is GPL'ed so you can look at the source if you need but be sure you understand the license first.
I'm not sure if you can get something that works with java.io.File but across the network. I'm pretty sure you need to use something provided by your OS for that. It'd be great if someone proved me wrong on this.

  • Need help with File system creation fro Oracle DB installation

    Hello,
I am new to Solaris/Unix system landscape. I have a Sun enterprise 450 with 18GB hard drive. It has Solaris 9 on it and no other software at this time. I am planning on adding 2 more hard drives 18gb and 36gb to accommodate Oracle DB.
Recently I went through the Solaris Intermediate Sys admin training, knows the basic stuff but not fully confident to carry out the task on my own.
I would appreciate some one can help me with the sequence of steps that I need perform to
    1. recognize the new hard drives in the system,
    2. format,
    3. partition. What is the normal strategy for partitioning? My current thinking is to have 36+18gb drives as data drives. This is where I am little bit lost. Can I make a entire 36GB drive as 1 slice for data, I am not quite sure how this is done in the real life, need your help.
    4. creating the file system to store the database files.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Here is the rough idea for HA from my experience.
The important thing is that the binaries required to run SAP
are to be accessible before and after switchover.
In terms of this file system doesn't matter.
But SAP may recommend certain filesystem on linux
please refer to SAP installation guide.
I always use reiserfs or ext3fs.
For soft link I recommend you to refer SAP installation guide.
In your configuration the files related to SCS and DB is the key.
Again those files are to be accessible both from hostA and from hostB.
Easiest way is to use share these files like NFS or other shared file system
so that both nodes can access to these files.
And let the clustering software do mount and unmount those directory.
DB binaries, data and log are to be placed in shared storage subsystem.
    (ex. /oracle/*)
SAP binaries, profiles and so on to be placed in shared storage as well.
    (ex. /sapmnt/*)
You may want to place the binaries into local disk to make sure the binaries
are always accessible on OS level, even in the connection to storage subsystem
    losts.
In this case you have to sync the binaries on both nodes manually.
Easiest way is just put on shared storage and mount them!
Furthermore you can use sapcpe function to sync necessary binaries
    from /sapmnt to /usr/sap/<SID>.
For your last question /sapmnt should be located in storage subsystem
and not let the storage down!

    1) what all are the file systems.
    2) which of them are soft links.
    3) which all file system are on local or shared.
Also can some one suggest the cluster solution which can be used to cluster SCS instance in SAP NW2004s JAVA.
The CI and DI instance resuires the files availble in /sapmnt .In case the /sapmnt fails on Node A . how does the failure on NOde B takes care that /sapmnt content is available for CI and DI.
Can anyone please provide me some solution to these questions.

  • I need to delete files from my iMac hard drive, but not from my other devices (that are sync. to iCloud). How do I do this?? My Mac is a 24-inch Mid 2007 running on Mountain Lion. Thanks for your help.

I have recently recieved messages indicating that my start up disc is almost full. Consequently I need to remove some files from my hard drive. I've backed up my hard drive onto a NAS system & onto an external harddrive. The problem now, is that whenever I try to delete a file, a message comes up saying that if I remove this file from my hard disc it will remove it from all my other devices that are syn. to it. How do I remove a file (movies) from my iMac but not from other devices.
    Thanks for your help
    Robert

You're right - this question has nothing to do with iSync!
You're best bet would be to buy yourself an external Firewire or USB 2.0 hard-disk. There's no way you'll get 150gb onto an 80gb drive - certainly not in an instantly accessible way.
Your new Mac would've had the Migration Assistant appear during the initial OS install. This allows you to connect your new and old Mac together via a Firewire cable and automatically transfer your important files from old Mac to new.
Once you've all the files off your old Mac, re-format it and re-install the OS that came with it. If you boot up the Mac from the OS install DVD, there is an option to re-format the HD and install the OS.

  • How to view crawled documents of file system in the browser using sharepoint search

    Hi,
I think this should be pretty obvious. However, somehow I am not able to do it. Here is what i am working on:
I created a folder on my D:\ drive on the SharePoint server. Added a few word documents there.Created a new content source in my Search Service Application and configured it to crawl above folder from file system. Ran a full crawl. All the documents are
crawled successfully. I can see the documents on the search page. Now, the problem is:
How can I open this document directly in the browser? Becuase the path i get is of the folder on the server. If this isn't possible then I think, there is no use of this feature. I just see the title and a short description of the document.
But, I think it should be possible. I just don't know how to do it.
Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

    Hi Mohan,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open the documents in file shares in the browser by clicking the link in search results.
As the files are not stored in SharePoint, so we need to configure Office Web Apps for the documents to open the files in the browser.

I have noticed that sometimes the device id of the root file system changes (it typically get incremented by one). This seems to happen after an abnormal shutdown. After a normal shutdown and reboot the device id reverts back to what it was previously.
