Browsing the net with antivirus?

Hi guys out there,
This is my first time ever in a forum of this kind. It's all due to me  recently buying an E72 device.
After a quick overview of the operations manual i'm not sure at all if the use of an antivirus  is advisable. On the other hand the manual openly admits the device can be ill affected by virus when opening certain, unknown files to the user as well as when trying to upload certain pages just in the same  way it would happen to an actual PC.
Given that most of the prime features of the device are web- based the exposed question is noticeable.
Maybe the issue is already been put forward before, in that case just redirect me into the  right way. Thanks a million and sorry for been so late on the  site.

Nokia are, understandably, covering their rear ends by warning you about malware. The actual risk really is extremely low, but it just takes one case of someone using their device irresponsibly, getting it infected and blaming Nokia for not warning them.
In the unlikely event that some kind of malware that will run on an E72 is floating around on a web page, you will first be prompted to install it. You will have to give explicit consent to do so. Secondly, that malware will have to be signed with a valid certificate before the E72 will accept to install it, and no author of malware is going to go to the trouble of purchasing a certificate when that certificate can be traced back to them when someone stumbles across the malware that's signed with it.
That's 2 significant hurdles already.
As for real viruses (as opposed to worms and trojans), there's no such thing on S60 as of the 3rd edition (S60v3).

  • Why Cant we browse the net from our Apple TV?

Im sorry if this question has been asked and answered a thousand times but I don't get it what is taking Apple so darn long? There is no technical reason preventing us from using the Apple TV to surf the net from our couch. Sure there might be arguments about the functionality with the current remote but if people are willing to overcome functionality to browse the net from outdated cellphones they certainly will do the same from the convienence of their own couch.
I for one am looking forward to the day I can replace my computer desk with my couch and I will be happy to replace my keyboard/mouse with the stock apple tv remote or my IPod just as soon as apple is ready to let me do it.

Technically of course it could do it, but it's not an advertised feature of the device.
It could also do some word processing and print wirelessly, play chess, Tetris or Doom like games - again all things it could do but not what it was designed for.
No harm sending an enhancement request here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
...but you're guess is as good as mine as to whether or not Apple would implement a browser.
Some people have also said it would be great if AppleTv had an 'apps store' smilar to iPhone to let people add functionality.

  • While browsing the internet with my iPhone 4S the screen goes black and it looks like it's turning off, but it pops up to the unlock keypad screen.

While browsing the internet with my iPhone 4S the screen goes black and it looks like it's turning off, but it pops up to the unlock keypad screen. It has plenty battery and I was wondering if it is an issue of using too much of the iPhones RAM or not. I have no other apps open besides Messages. I am getting kind of worried as it started around two weeks ago and it has gotten increasingly frequent.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these steps in order until the issue is resolved.

  • HELP REQUIRED:Want to use my N79 & browse the net ...

I have recently bought an N79. When I connect it to my laptop through the supplied cable the nokia PC suite says that "S60 device connected through a non-compaitble mode". I want to browse the net on my laptop using my cellular provider's GPRS service while connected through the supplied USB cable. Can anyone help?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there
You need to make sure when you connect the device that it is connected in PC Suite mode. When the cable is plugged in it should ask you which mode you would like to use. If it does not ask you then you need to go to:
Menu>tools>connectivity> USB and select "ask on connection" YES
Once connected in Pc suite mode the necessary drivers will install and you can connect to the net on the computer through the N79-1 using Pc Suite.
    Hope this helps

  • I am trying to watch videos online, but a message saying "You are currently browsing the web with Google Chrome..."

I have a MacBook Pro, which I just bought in August.
When I try to watch videos on my computer, a message pops up saying, "You are currently browsing the web with Google Chrome and your Video Player might be outdated." I know it's a pop up, but I don't know how to get rid of it and watch videos on my computer. I did look it up online and I downloaded the TSM Adware Removal Tool, which removed some adware files. Then I also downloaded Bitdefender Virus Scanner from the app store to scan my entire computer - nothing came up.
Please help me solve this problem. Thanks.

The update alerts are fake, and are intended to dupe you into installing malware or disclosing private information so that your identity can be stolen.
You might get the alerts when visiting a website that has been hacked. Don't visit the site again. If applicable, notify the site administrator of the problem, but don't send email to an unknown party.
If you get the alerts when visiting more than one well-known website, such as Google, YouTube, or Facebook, then they're almost certainly the result of an attack on your router that has caused you to get false results from looking up the addresses of Internet servers. Requests sent to those sites are redirected to a server controlled by the attacker. It's possible, but less likely, that the DNS server used by your ISP has been attacked, but you should assume that the router is at fault until proven otherwise.
The router's documentation should tell you how to reset it to the factory default state. Usually there's a pinhole switch somewhere in the back. It may be labeled "RESET." Insert the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool and press the button inside for perhaps 15 seconds, or as long as the instructions specify.
After resetting the router, quit the web browser and relaunch it while holding down the shift key. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Do the equivalent if you use another browser. Open the Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.
Then go through the router's initial setup procedure. I can't be specific, because it's different for every model. The key points are these:
    1. Don't allow the router to be administered from the WAN (Internet) port, if it has that option. Most do.
    2. Set a strong password to protect the router's settings: at least ten random upper- and lower-case letters and digits. Don't use the default password or any other that could be guessed. Save the password in your keychain. Any password that you can remember is weak.
    3. If the router is wireless, or if you have a wireless access point on the network, use "WPA 2 Personal" security and set a different strong password to protect the network. If the router or access point doesn't support WPA 2, it's obsolete and must be replaced.
During the time the router was compromised, you were redirected to bogus websites. If you ever connected to a secure site and got a warning from your browser that the identity of the server could not be verified, and you dismissed that warning in order to log in, assume that your credentials for the site have been stolen and that the attacker has control of the account. This warning also applies to all websites on which you saw the fake update alerts.
Check the router manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
If you downloaded and installed what you thought was a software update, ask for instructions.

  • Can I browse the internet with my Apple TV?

I have an older ATV, maybe 3 years old, can I browse the internet with it and if so, how??

If you have an iPad 2 (or later), iPhone 4s (or later), iPod Touch 5. You can use mirroring.
You can also mirror a recent Mac or use airparrot on older hardware or PC

  • Previewing clips in Prelude while in other applications (e.g. browsing the net)?

Prelude is a great tool for quickly going through media, but sometimes clips require you to watch or listen to the whole thing to find the right moments. I'd love to be able to have clips playing in the background while surfing the net. Is there a way to do this? I'm using the Mac version of Prelude, and everytime I switch to another application while Prelude is playing a clip, the clip pauses.

About your update. If you have multiple displays you can specify one of them to have full-screen playback (don't select your display with the Mac menu bar, that can make it a challenge to get back to the preferences to undo the change). The "Disable video output while in the background" control makes it so this full screen output is turned off when you bring another application forward. In all cases Prelude CS6 stops playing when another app comes forward. Thank you, in advance, for filing a feature request.

  • Can I browse the Internet with Apple TV?

Is it possible to visit internet sites with Apple TV? Does it have a build in browser or is it limited to YouTube and Podcasts? Thanks for any info on this!

And I might add Michael, if Apple would add screen sharing capabilities to Apple TV like the feature built into Leopard, you could completely control the AppleTV with your MacBook Pro, so you wouldn't even need a bluetooth keyboard and mouse if you didn't own them.
Why Apple doesn't do some of this great stuff on the AppleTV, I don't know. I suppose they'll burp and dribble these enhancements out to us eventually, but it's going to take them a long time.

  • Connection failure when connecting to the net with...

I hope someone can help me. I have got Nokia PC suite on my PC. I often use it to connect to the net. Just recently I had a few viruses on my pc and now since they have been cleaned off I keep getting a connection failure when I try to connect. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my software but nothing seems to help. I know it is something to do with my pc as I have tried four different phones that do work on other pc's, just not this one.
I have checked to make sure all the modem settings are right and that the phone is detected as a modem.
What should I try that might help solve this??
    Thanks
    Katherine

Make sure you have entered the access point in the one touch access settings, enter the settings maually and try to connect.
If a reply has solved your problem click Accept as solution button, doing it will help others know the solution. Thanks.

  • How to copy a .bak-File through the Net with a Job?

    Hi all,
    I have create with
    ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO 'c:\Temp\test_control.bak';
my the binary copy of my controlfile.
    But I don't understand:
In the database there are 3 control files: Control01.ctl,
Control02.ctl and Control03.ctl. After I implemented ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO 'C:\Temp\test_control.bak';, I have
only one copy. Is that the copy of all 3 controlfiles? Still another question:
How can I copy this file now with a job on another computer through the net?
    Regards
    Leonid Pavlov

i use streams to read the binary file. The problem is I don't know when the transfered stream finished. With text file I can recognize the end of the transfer by a special string, but how to deal with the end of a stream? should the server send an "EOF" or something else to the client to notify the end?

  • Imac Keeps Crashing When Browsing the net (often when scrolling)

    Hello,
I bought a refurished imac from Dixons about a fortnight ago. I was provided with no discs so I can't do a hardware test.
In the last few days my imac has started crashing. It has always crashed when I'm browsing the internet and usually happens when I'm scrolling. At first i thought it was Google Chrome so I switched to Safari but the same has continued to happen. The screen usually goes grey and I a message telling me to power off my imac and restart.

What could be causing these crashes?
    Thanks for your help.

As a first step I'd suspect Avast - try fully uninstalling it, you don't need it.
You could try a 'safe boot' which should boot the Mac without loading the non-Apple stuff. Test web-browsing to see if the kernel panics go away.
To Safe Boot: restart holding down the shift key until the grey progress bar appears. The Mac should boot in 'stripped down mode' allowing you to run a few tests web-browsing. Restart as normal from the Apple menu when you're done.
If the Mac came with no disks you are probably running OS X 10.7.x Lion. You can check/repair your disk by booting while holding down Command+R which takes you to Lion's recovery mode. You can run Disk Utility from there to verify/repair your disk should you ever need to.
If you feel you want some anti-virus software the one that is most often recommended on these forums as being trouble-free on Macs is the free/donationware clamXav: www.clamxav.com

  • The 3G symbol is not showing up on my home screen and I cannot browse the net, any suggestions?

The 3G symbol does not show up on my home page and I cannot browse the Internet or receive mail. Any advice?

    reset the iphone
    1. press the wake/sleep button the top until you get the red slider
    2. Slide to power off
    3. Wait for phone to power off (you get a spinning gear icon for a while)
    4. press the wake/sleep button to turn in back on.
if that doesn't work reset network settings
    1. Go to Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings
    2. Confirm that you want to do this and the phone will restart itself
if that doesn't work restore the phone in iTunes, but you will want to sync all of your data before you do that.
