Brtools recovery - restart possible?

Hello,
If you are using brtools for recovery, and while you are restoring datafiles from tape your unix session dies, is it possible to open a new unix session and proceed with brtools and the recovery/restore at the moment of the failure?
An example whould be a 2 Terabytes database recovery process, where the restore of the datafiles might take hours and you can only work remotely.
Thanks

Hi
It sounds like you need "GNU screens".  It's an ASCII terminal emulator which allows you to open multiple windows through the one telnet connection.  The best thing is that if you lose your connection, you can RECONNECT to your previously running Screen (like terminal server sessions only ascii based).
Here is a link to a Screen Introduction Page :

  • Set Message in BPM to System Error - Manual Restart Possible ?

    Hello,
I'm working on a scenario where two idocs are merged in a BPM. The next step is sending the message in a synchronous RFC (BAPI) to a SAP R/3. Is it possible to set the merged message to the message status 'System Error - Manual Restart Possible' in the SXMB_MONI, when the BAPI returns an Error message?
When it's not possible, is there an othe possibility to sent the message again, without involving the source system?
    Thanks in advance
    Matthias

    Hi,
It would be better i think if you use the concept of raising an exception in your response mapping
    please refer:
    /people/alessandro.guarneri/blog/2006/01/26/throwing-smart-exceptions-in-xi-graphical-mapping
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2007/04/26/xipi-throwing-generic-exceptions-from-any-type-of-mapping
in the response mapping you can check the condition for the responce code from RFC.

  • URGENT: system error - Maual restart possible

    Hi Experts,
I'm facing a problem in Xi prodoction. Both inbound and outbound are throwing system error - Maual restart possible. The user is restarting manually in order to post the invoice.
Basically this is retail project, from POS s/w to Xi to SAP R/3. The scenario is file to idoc(inbound) and idoc to file (outbound).

  • How to cancel automatically messages stated 17 (Application error - manual restart possible) in SAP ECC

Hi people. I need to create a job to cancel automatically the messages with the status 17 (Application error - manual restart possible) in SAP ECC.

  • Notifications of XI-mgs in status 'System Error - Manual Restart Possible'

    Dear colleagues,
I'm using a simple communication channel of type 'GeneratedReceiverChannel_XI' in order to push XML-messages from the intergration engine into the ABAP-Backend using an ABAP server proxy. Many of these messages, however, show an error status in the XI-monitor (Notifications of XI-mgs in status 'System Error - Manual Restart Possible'). The indication of the system error is OK, since the XML-parser correctly detects a character in a field which shall be mapped to a field of type 'DEC' in the ABAP backend.
Is there any possibility to configure some type of alerting in the ABAP-backend to track especially the appearence of XML-messages in the XI-monitor with status 'System Error'?
Thanks a lot and kind regards
    Stefan

    HI,
As its mentioned in above postes, you can configure the Alert notification in XI which can give you the alerts about this kind of errors.
If the exception is raised after reaching to ABAP backend R/3 Side, then you may trace it in t-code SXMB_MONI of R/3.

  • Computer Restarting possibly due to DCHP and DirectoryServices?

I'm not sure this is the right forum -
My computer has restarted 2 times -(on it's own)
The problem seems to lie , possibly, in Directory Services and DCHP
Could someone please clarify what this could mean

Thank you for replying 'I love my macbook'
No my computer did not crash - I was in the internet (both times - just web surfing and my computer just went black and restarted on its own -
It went right on to the desktop.
The problem seem to be somewhat connected to DCHP - maybe and the start-up of Directory services.
I wanted someone to clarify what importance these things are and are they connected to Leopard - What is DCHP and Directory Services?

  • SMF - start at boot time, but don't restart - possible?

I'm setting up a software package that has a number of background processes.
I've got SMF manifests created and imported for all of them, and they're working great for starting the processes at boot time, and doing the automatic restarts when one fails.
Here's my problem. It turns out that the users of this software want to be able to use the software's integrated process control methods to stop some of their processes. With the current configuration, they use the software's method to stop one of it's processes, and SMF promptly restarts it.
Is there a way to set up SMF managed software so that SMF starts it at boot time, but then doesn't care if stops later?
    Richard

I'm not sure how it would be SMF "managed" in such a case. Obviously you want the management to be elsewhere.
You could use the "legacy" startup scripts in /etc/rcX.d. That will start a process and forget about it, just like pre-Solaris 10. You don't use manifests or have any other benefits of SMF.
If you do want SMF, I guess the question is how you want it to act..
When the users stop the processes, do you want SMF to say enabled or disabled? SMF does not track enabled processes by periodic polling, it does it by tracking contracts. This means that starting a process outside of SMF does not allow SMF to track it.

PowerSwitch on. No Bios beep. No Infos. Nothing ! Only the 3left LEDs are white ! The Screen is death !
So i research the Lenovo Forums about to fixing this.
I found a lot of Informations about the BIOS Recovery Procedure and try different versions about that.
I create the "Crisis" Emergency Floppy /USB Stick with the Files inside the "LM30_0128.exe". No Problems !
I try USB Floppy and USB Stick but nothing happens if i press the different Keyboard Combinations:

  • Data Recovery - Failed HD on 2010 MacBook Pro

Hello, I have had a HD failure, or at least what I believe to be one on my 2010 MacBook Pro. I updated to Mavericks from Snow Leopard in October and everything appeared to run smoothly. 2 days ago I was watching a video in Itunes I my entire system froze, however the mouse was still moveable as was the dock. Rather stupidly, i tried to load a couple of applications, they did eventually load, but were not function able. The pinwheel kept spinning, and trying to move the page windows only resulted in lag. The system then crashed completely, and I had to restart. It would not go past the grey screen with the apple logo.
For the past day I`ve tried on and off everything that I know how to do. PRAM and SMC resets, Apple Hardware disk (which resulted in an issue with one of my memory sticks. I switched them out, ran the test again, and the system simply crashed part way through), and Disk utility. After running Verify and Repair permissions/disk permission in Disk Utility, I received the message relating to an "uncorrectable error" and "This disk cannot be repaired."
I`ve had issue with this machine on and off for nearly the past two years. Disk utility has appeared resolve the issues, but sometime later something else would crop up. Kernal issues have become more and more frequent as have crashes, and I`ve suspected the HD is to blame. Back in Aug 2012 I had the logic board replaced under warranty, due to graphic issues and problems display games/video or other media and lag. This fixed the issue for a few months, then the kernal problems started and I have frequently (every few days) needed to restart and gotten error messages. The machine will no longer start up, and though most of my date is backed up, some of it is not, and I really would like to get it back. The apple logo will appear on screen for 30sec-1min then crash and automatically restarts.
System Info: 15' 2010 MacBook Pro
    2.66GHZ i7
    5400rpm HD
    etc.
Also, I have tried booting up with the "Shift" key held and the following message has appeared multiple times on the grey/apple logo screen:

My primary concern is Data Recovery if possible, then dealing with whatever the issue may be. If the HD is in fact to blame, I can replace it, but I`d really like to get the remain date that is on the drive if possible. Looking through the forums I see that others have had similar issues. I appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone can offer. . Thank you to anyone in advance!

    Appfan42,
you’ve now discovered where the value lies in making regular backups — to avoid data loss due to a “single point of failure”. If the data that’s currently only on your hard drive is irretrievable through ordinary means, there is still the possibility of hiring the services of a data recovery company, but their services are typically quite expensive. Should it be necessary for you to purchase a replacement hard drive (or SSD), I’d highly recommend that you also purchase an external hard drive for use as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you can make regular backups, and thus avoid a similar situation at some future date.
That being stated, there is a chance that the problem is due to a faulty internal SATA cable rather than a faulty hard drive. The way to check that would be to purchase either a SATA-to-USB or SATA-to-FireWire adapter or an external disk enclosure, and move your hard disk outside of its usual place within your MacBook Pro. After that, boot into Recovery mode and run Disk Utility from there to verify/repair your drive while it’s external, and see if it will boot normally afterwards. If it behaves itself externally, then that could point to the problem lying with your internal SATA cable; that would also be the right time to perform data recovery and start making regular Time Machine backups.

  • Raw Recovery?

So my hard drive is asking to re initialize when it has already been formatted and data has been stored. I would like to recover my files it shows its a raw format now so it cant be mounted but shows up in disk utility. does anyone know of a free or good raw data recovery software?

    First try the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
For now you can skip repairing permissions. If repairing the drive does not help it may still be possible to recover files. See:
    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
There are no free data recovery utilities or services.

  • Database Recovery using Archive files

    Dears,
Due to some issue our database get crashed.
We have saturday night offline backup and archive backup till yesterday night.
We have restored offline backup and system is Up but it is on saturday night state.
We want to apply these archive files to make the system state to current.
In restore our control file also get replace with our saturday night control file status.
We have copied our archive files in oraarch directory.
Now when using brtools I am applying archive files:
    Command executing in brtools:
    recover from '/oracle/<SID>/oraarch' database
    it shows
    unknow command beginning
    No recovery required
On sqlplus also when I execute
    sql>recover database;
    It shows no recovery required.
    When I give command:
    sql>recover database using backup control file;
    it ask for some {file name| AUTO | CANCEL}
I give first file name of oraarch it shows "Can not access the file".
    File permissions are ok.
I give AUTO, It also then do not do anything.
Please suggest the correct method to make my system in latest current date.
    Shivam

    Hi Shivam,
This is absolutely normal that during the restore your control files will be replaced by the old one which were backed up during database backup.
Logic is that you can not apply the redolgs which are having the timestamps older than your  restored datafile's / controlfile's timestamp.
If your DB is not yet opened, you can check the status of your database using below command which will tell you, till what timestamp your data is restored or currently available.
    select to_char(CHECKPOINT_TIME,'yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss') from v$datafile where file#=1;
    >
    > From command I want to know "from backup control file"....Do SAP take backup of control file as in system only old is
    >
    > available.
    > Shivam
    >
recover database using backup controlfile.....  this command does not backup the controlfile . this will make use of old controlfile only which came along with the restore  and start the recovery using this controlfile only.
Its just make use of available controlfile ..No backup will be triggered.
Please make a note that after DB restore; ..recovery is possible only in case database is not yet opened in OPEN state.
    Cheers !!!

  • Itouch has frozen mid-update and will not shut off or restart

My 5th generation iTouch has recently begun downloading the newest iOS update.  The update did not complete (thus a restart has yet to occur); however, I am unable to even power off the device (held the power button in excess of one minute without it shutting off the device).  I just downloaded the ITunes 12 update, but have some tasks to complete before restarting my computer (to allow for a possible recovery restart).  Also, when plugging in the iTouch to the computer, the device isn't recognized or accessible.
How can I restart the device without using a recovery option?
Thank you in advance for your much appreciated attention and  support provided by the community.

    - Try letting the battery fully drain and then charge and try a reset
    Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try connecting to iTunes and try making a backup.
    - Last restore the iPod using Recovery mode if necessary.
