BRU Server on 10.4.6

Has anyone seen this problem with BRU Server for OS X?
Backups seem to go OK. However, attempting a complete system restore to our test client (a Red Hat AS 4 for AMD-64 installation) gets us this message:
"BRU restore summary not seen from agent; Bad restore?"
The restore is set to overwrite all files.

I'm only going to say this one more time: You open PhotoBooth, and click on a picture you have already taken. Close PhotoBooth. You do not need MagicNoiseKiller. And your method actually takes longer.
You only need to take a picture one time -- ever. You'll never need to take one again. You just have to click on it in the photo browser at the bottom of the PhotoBooth window.
No 3rd-party hack needed.

Bru Server or NetVault or other?

Howdy folks I'm looking for a recommendation on which piece of backup software would be best for my environment.
I'm going to be putting two fully loaded Xserve RAIDS, a G5 Xserve, and a Windows 2003 box all on a QLogic SANbox 5200 series switch. The backup device will be a Exabyte Magnum 448 also connected to the Fibre Switch.
I'm going to be doing some lun masking so 3 of the raid halves are visible to the G5 the last visible to the Windows box. The 3 visible to the Xserve are the volumes I'm going to be doing backups on.. Weekend fulls with nightly incrementals.
In this type of scenario does anyone have experience with the different pieces of backup software? What would you recommend?

I'm not too happy with Retrospects performance (still "carbon based" and can use a lot of CPU for simple tasks) but I haven't come across anything else that I could really recommend.
For syncing purposes Synchronize Pro is OK.
Using different applications to first sync files from server shared volumes to backupserver backup/sync volumes and then one that writes to tape is probably the best thing. This to avoid that one application stops executing waiting for user input and thus halting both types of backups.
BRU server for local backups running on a fileserver still use the network (???) since it has to go via the network agent (high CPU load). If the backup/restore isn't performed during daytime (or whenever server is used by clients) that's no problem.
BRU LE haven't got this issue as it's only capable of doing local backups (at least not using any network agent).

an update on my client's situation:
os: server 10.4.11
scsi card: LSILogic Ultra320, 1.3.39.0 firmware
tape: exabyte 1x10 library, vxa172 tape drive
after a reboot, but still running 10.4.10, the tape drive appeared on the SCSI bus.
after installing the 10.4.11 update, the OS can't see the tape drive, but the library is. basically, that's no different than before the update.
does anyone have any ideas on how to scare the drive into reappearing? would unloading/reloading kexts help? the library is basically useless without the tape drive reliably recognized by the SCSI card.

Suggestions on setting up RAID drives for sharing files

Looking for some suggestions on how to best set up my schools mac lab...
What I have:
The lab admin computer is a MacPro 8GB ram two internal 1TB drives (no RAID card)
HD one is currently not raided and is running leopard 10.5.4, ARD3, CS3, etc. The HD 2 is waiting to be utilized.
The student computers are (intel) iMacs 2.66ghz 4GB ram running 10.5.4 and used primarily for running CS3 apps with yearbook and art students.
What I would like to do:
Use the second HD on the MacPro to share files with the imacs. My yearbook students need to be able to access their photos and layouts from any imac they log into, but I would also like to protect the files (from accidental deleting) and possibly make it quicker for them to access them (since our school network tends to be a bit slow).
I don't know wether I should partition the second HD, RAID and if so in what configuration? or some combination of both. I have never really used a RAID disk before so I am not sure how it could apply to what I want to do. Or am I going about this the wrong way?

Because you are in an enterprise situation your major concern should be backup. Your data and all student data are at risk without a proper backup strategy. With a single 1 TB drive in use you should consider using the second 1TB drive as the backup drive. Daily backups should be scheduled to back up all user data and user accounts stored on the main drive. I suggest you use a top-grade piece of backup software that will do scheduled backups at designated times to assure you have a current daily backup on the second hard drive. If you are willing to go the extra bit then buy a third 1 TB hard drive and set up a mirrored RAID with the second drive you now have. This will provide some redundancy in the event of the loss of a hard drive due to mechanical failure (it does not protect you in the event of data corruption.) You should then set up a method of providing additional archival backups on a weekly or monthly basis. The archival backups should be done on separate hard drives (perhaps an external Firewire drive) or to multiple DVDs. A third backup would be a copy of the archival backups that would be stored off-site in the event of fire, theft, or other catastrophic loss as well as for security purposes.
There are few backup programs capable of doing it all including backing up across multiple optical discs - Retrospect is the least expensive one. Other suitable backup programs are:

Firewire device assignments -- permanent?

Running 10.4.7 on a G4 XServe, 2GB RAM, two Exabyte VXA-2 Firewire tape drives attached. BRU server.
The problem, of course, is that once in a blue moon a service reboot brings the firewire tape drives up in the opposite order, and what was ntape0 is now ntape1 and vice-versa. BRU, trusting the OS definitions, starts writing to the wrong device.
I will admit that I saw this coming, but after months of consistent performance I stopped worrying about it.
Is there a way that I can force a particular firewire device assignment in OS X Server? I would like to run a script at login that probes the tape drives and reassigns IDs accordingly.

1st look at your "audio midi setup" and see if the FW divice is recognized by your mac. if it is not it is a driver problem. contact the company and ask them if they are intel UB compatable
if the device is in Audio midi step, then look in Logic under Preferences/audio/driver and select you divice there

We've used BRU Server for several months now. Works reliably, and Tolis Group has been actively updating their GUI app monthly to incorporate user requests. Version 1.20H is a marked GUI improvement over 1.2.0. I don't think you'll beat the price of $600 (25 clients) + $200 (3 year support) for robotic tape support.
We had been using Veritas Netbackup on a venerable SGI/IRIX server before Xserve/BRU, and although BRU definitely does not have all the bells and whistles of VN (mainly database support), it is a fraction of the price and we never needed any of those features anyway. BRU is also vastly easier to use/deploy than more sophisticated offerings. BRU represents a good fit for small shops without enterprise scale protocols.
BRU makes a LE version (US $125) with limited robotic support for local file systems, but last I used it - you cannot do true incremental backups on hard disk since a unique archive name is not used for each night's backup. In contrast, BRU Server utilizes a random hexadecimal name for each archive file. I suppose a Apple script, unix script or user intervention could make sure each BRU LE archive name is unique.
BRU has one more limitation that may affect you: BRU Server 1.2.0 can only have one volume designated as a backup destination. This "stage" can be swapped out by the user with other volumes, providing that the mount point is named identically or you modify the preferences to reflect the new name. I am not sure why this limitation exists.
If your only backing up to disk, or would rather have random access to your files (versus an archive file that you need BRU to restore) - you may consider a free solution like RsyncX before plunking down money on a tape-centric solution.

Backup recommendations

I use and have used CCC and SuperDuper for backup but am looking for something with more flexibility. I have multiple hard drives, each containing particular folders that I want to be able to backup to an external drive that I remove from the premisis. The folder structure changes at times and it's not practical to do this from SuperDuper in a simple way. I'm looking for something to backup about a terabyte from four hard drives, each containing a few large folders scattered through the drives. These scattered folders will all go to an external. In a quick search on the net I don't find any solid recommendations. Creating a script for each drive in SuperDuper might work but I'd like something a bit less of a pain in the rear. Retrospect is not an option I'm interested in.

These four are industrial strength backup utilities with pretty flexible capabilities suitable for enterprise needs.
The latter two are enterprise priced. The first two are more reasonably priced. All four are superior to SuperDuper! and other less expensive backup utilities. There are many others which you can find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Most are available in demo versions so you can examine whether they are suitable for your needs.
Personally, I use Synchronize! Pro X which will support backing up mutliple items such as various select folders or files that can come from more than one drive. Backup to network drives is also supported.

Leopard Server Time Machine Questions

We've been running Time Machine to backup client data for about 20 users for a number of months. We've set this up with Time Machine saving to a 750GB RAID 1 external drive mounted as a share point. Each user has a maximum disk quota on the share point (set up using 'edquota'). We now have some questions about how Time Machine is supposed to work:
1) We're starting to get errors that Time Machine has run out of space for individual users. We understood that Time Machine would simply delete the oldest backups and then continue (as it does with standard Time Machine on an individual Mac) but this doesn't seem to happen. Instead we get a warning that there isn't enough space. Is this correct for Server-based Time Machine or is there something we can/should do to make Time Machine behave 'normally' and auto-delete oldest backups to make space for new backups?
2) We've used 'edquota', 'quotacheck' and 'repquota' commands to create our user quotas on a share point. However we can't find any way of removing an individual user's quota completely - it seems we can change their quota but we can't remove them and start again without removing the user completely from the server. Is there any way of resetting and/or removing a user's disk quota on a share point, including clearing down all their data? For example, we have one user that has 3GB of 10GB quota 'in use' even when all their data has been removed manually. There are no hidden folders/files etc. but 'quotacheck says they are still using 3GB!
3) We have an HP Ultrium 960 LTO-3 SCSI tape drive. Does anyone know how we can backup our Time Machine data onto these tapes for off-site archives? We've looked at EMC Retrospect 8.1 but this doesn't seem to work properly with Time Machine data (and seems to be generally flakey!). Does anyone know of general OS X/Unix drivers for this type of device that would allow us to use Unix commands ('tar' etc.). Alternatively can anyone recommend a backup software solution that actually works with Time Machine data?
4) Can anyone recommend a known working solution to keeping long term archives of Time Machine data?

We only backup selected client data, excluding system, apps, music, photos etc. i.e. only company data not personal data or general system data (our client systems are built from a common standard build brick). So 10GB-25GB is fine for many months of Time Machine backups for our user population.
We like Time Machine because the user doesn't have to do anything for backing up, it works automatically and the user can recover their 'oops' files without tech support help. So we're keen to get the benefits of Time Machine for several months of immediate backups that users can deal with themselves, but also we'd like some kind of longer term off-site archive capability - this is why we'd like to tape the Time Machine data.
We don't have a working tape solution at present. We have an old Retrospect 6 licence which explicitly does nothing (but complain!) with Time Machine data. We tried a trial licence of Retrospect 8.1 but it seems flakey in general and did not cope reliably with Time Machine data. We wondered about Bru but we'd have to remove Retrospect 6 (which we're keeping in case we need to recover from old archive tapes).
Currently our server is backed up using a combination of techniques:
1) Time Machine of the server itself (system and data)
2) Time Machine of the company data share point onto an external 750GB RAID 1 drive (2 active disks mirrored + 1 spare disk)
3) Weekly 'breaking' of RAID 1 mirror using a spare drive (i.e. weekly rotation of mirror drive)
4) Weekly clones of server system material (but not data) onto FireWire external drive
5) Monthly clone of RAID 1 onto another external FireWire drive (we intend to rotate this with another identical drive)
Can you confirm the situation regarding Time Machine when it runs out of space - how do we get it to 'roll over' old backup data?

I am confused with Mac OS X Server Time machine backup plan

I just purchased a Mac mini with Snow Leopard server. I just start use this Mac mini for home file sharing server, iTune musics, photo processing (under my user/Picture directory) and iPhone coding (under my user/Document directory).
Since there are some critical personal file in this Mac mini, I am looking for a backup plan.
Original, I setup Time Machine as my iMac and I though Time Machine will backup everything, especially my photos. So, I enable my Mac mini Time Machine and assign backup to my 1TB external hard drive, it seems works correct.
But I happen browse this document today the "Apple Documentation for setting up Snow Leopard Server".

And it seems said Time Machine will not backup everything and it also not mentioned if photos and musics will be backup or not.

If you're referring to my umm... disdain for Retrospect I would have to assume they're aware of the problems running their product on production Mac OS X Servers. It's not hard to find references to people running into problems with it. If they're not aware then their support escalation process needs work.

OK, you lost me there. Which method are you referring to? replication? That's entirely viable as a protection against power or fire - locate the replica in a different datacenter/office/whatever.

If you're dealing with any of the major compliancy issues (e.g. SOX, HIPPA, PCI, etc.) then the cost of a replication server is trivial compared to the cost of even thinking about compliance (most consultants charge thousands of dollars just to walk in the door and say 'hi').
Not to mention that any of the above compliance rules pretty much require replication, and you taking a weekly (or even daily) copy of your disk home with you is just not going to cut it.

Thank you for validating my statement - you cannot backup an active server without terminating services that are writing to the disk.
Of course, in the replication model, you could temporarily stop replication, shut down the service, perform your backups, then restart services/replication (which will automatically catch up with the intermediate changes), while allowing clients to continue talking to the primary server.
THAT is the definition of performing backups of live data/servers without impacting users.

BRU incremental Backup Questions/Help

Hello Ladies and Gents,
I'm in desperate need of some help. I purchased Bru Le 1.3.0 about 2 weeks ago and going to use it for the clients Backup Strategy for over 2TB of data.
I used retrospect in the past but retro has been giving them major issues and has been unreliable; therefore the reason to switch to Bru.
Configuration: Xserve/XRAID backing up to Two sets of Lacie Drives 2x 1.8TB striped together = one single 3.6TB drive. One 3.6TB is daily and the Second is a weekly Off-site.
Let me preface this with the understanding that I'm not super savvy with Command-line....
The Goal is to Create incremental daily backup!
I started by creating a Full Backup compression level 1, now I'm trying to change that to an Incremental Backup - But when I try to select the base (which I thought would be the Full Backup I created) - I get an Error "Incorrect Base Definition" -- Which means I did this Wrong.
How do I Correctly create a proper Base Definition for an Incremental Backup?

Have you run a backup of the datafiles already?
Looking the documentation it says the following:
When using these commands, there must already exist an image copy of every datafile specified in the command. If there are multiple copies of a datafile, the latest one is used. RMAN issues an error if image copies of every datafile in the database or tablespace do not exist.From what you're saying this looks like the case with your backups.
I suggest running a backup of the current datafiles, then running a backup copy and querying RMAN to check the copy exists.

Time machine osx server backup to multiple drives?

Hello,
I've just discovered Time Machine for Mac OSx Server. It can act as a centralizad point for the backups of all the computers in the network, how cool!
I know that Time Machine "client" can back a system up to multiple drives. My question is, can I do something similar with Time Machine "server" so I can have more than one storage product onto which I can back up all the systems? That would be very interestin if I want to implement a off-site backup from all my systems.

I don't know. If the TM preference pane is scriptable then you could do it with an AppleScript. Unfortunately, TM is not designed to also schedule different backup times. For example, assume you could automate drive switching, you still need to tell TM to backup to one drive at some time then backup to another drive at a different time.
I suppose the latter could be done via a cron job as long as you did not use TM preferences to turn TM on in which case it will backup each hour automatically.
It seems to me you'd be better off using a different backup utility that would allow you to schedule such backups. For example:
1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial)
2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
5. Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware)
6. SuperDuper! (Commercial)

Not all of the above will backup over a network, but most can backup to any mounted device including a network drive except SuperDuper!.
In an enterprise setting your best choice of the above is Retrospect. There are a few other enterprise level backup utilities (costly) that you can track down at VersionTracker or MacUpdate. BRU is an example.
Oh, and if you know how to use the command line you can use the Unix tools, ditto and rsync.

How can I at-a-glance review a server's SHA-256 fingerprint in Thunderbird?

All my IMAP sessions are created via SSL/TLS tunnels to the respective servers.
Thunderbird dutifully highlights that the connection is encrypted with the small grey padlock icon in the folder pane. This is helpful.
However, I would like to check the SHA-256 finderprint of the server's certificate on a regular basis, at a glance. Is there a way I can easily do this in Thunderbird?

If in this scenario, please refer to the following tips:
The Foreach Loop container should be configured as shown below:
Enumerator: Foreach ADO.NET Schema Rowset Enumerator
Connection String: The OLE DB Connection String for the excel file.
Schema: Tables.
In the Variable Mapping, map the variable to Sheet_Name, and change the Index from 0 to 2.
The connection string for Excel Connection Manager is the original one, we needn’t make any change.
Change Table Name or View name to the variable Sheet_Name.

How to Install Coldfusion 8 64-bit on Small Business Server 2008 64-bit
I ran Coldfusion 8 on SBS 2003 Premium for 6 months with no problems. When we finally decided to cut over to SBS 2008, that’s when everything went to hell. I tried for weeks to get Coldfusion 8 to install properly on the new SBS 2008 64-bit box. During the course which, I found bits and pieces of information for Vista 64-bit and Windows Server 2008 64-bit installations. There are some distinct differences, however, with SBS 2008 since it runs core Web applications like OWA, RWW and Companyweb. After countless unsuccessful attempts, one of which completed corrupted the box, I found the solution.
I have attempted in this white paper to detail the steps to assist others who may be in a similar situation. I don’t make any warranty for the information, but so long as you follow the steps carefully you should be fine. BTW, for those of you who say Adobe offers free technical support for licensed users, that’s not entirely true. Like I said, I purchased CF8 and originally installed it on an SBS 2003 Premium box. After we cut over to SBS 2008 and encountered problems, Adobe wouldn’t provide any technical support without charging. Moreover, based on my initial conversations with Adobe’s technical team, no one seemed to know much about running 64-bit on SBS.
From my understanding, only two versions of Coldfusion 8 can be installed in 64-bit: Enterprise and Developer. The “normal” install (which I paid a grand for) can only be deployed in 32-bit mode – gee, THANKS Adobe! By the way, in Developer mode only two distinct IPs can access the site in addition to the localhost. Any additional IPs will result in a CFML error message stating that the maximum number of IPs have been exceeded. At any rate, take your time and follow the steps to achieve a successful installation.
PRE-INSTALLATION TASKS
Back Up SBS
It’s always a good practice to backup your server before deploying any kind of major system changes. Although this step is optional, I recommend it in case you need to restore your server for any reason. Bear in mind, if your system ever gets totally corrupted, you cannot restore back from the twice daily incremental backup images alone. You will need a full backup with system recovery information to restore. Here are the basic steps:
Click: Start > Programs > Administrative Tools. Right-click “Windows Server Backup” and choose “Run as administrator”.
Click “Backup Once” under Actions in the right-hand pane.
Choose the “Different Options” radio button under Backup Options.
Choose the “Custom” radio button. What we’re primarily interested in here is backing up the OS – not your data partitions or attached drives.
Select the “SYSTEM (C)” checkbox, uncheck any others. Also, ensure that the “Enable system recovery” checkbox is selected before continuing on.
Under ‘Specify Destination Type’, I usually select the “Local drives” radio button and point it to a Terrabyte USB drive I use for backups. You can point this to a tape drive, or select the “Remote shared folder” radio button if you map to a UNC path to store your backup images. Just remember, make sure that whatever path you select can readily be accessed in the event of an emergency. Also, make sure the “Verify after writing (recommended)” checkbox is selected.
Under ‘Specified Advanced Option’, I usually select the “VSS full backup” radio button instead of the default since I don’t use a 3rd party backup product. If like me you rely solely on SBS for your backups, choose the full backup option.
Confirm everything and click “Backup”. This process may take several hours depending on the size of your system.
Verify ISAPI Filters:
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane.
In the center pane under IIS, double click the “Modules” icon to verify that the ISAPI native modules are already installed for IIS. If it’s set up correctly you should see two entries:
IsapiFilterModule %windir%\System32\inetsrv\filter.dll
IsapiModule %windir%\System32\inetsrv\isapi.dll
If either of these modules are missing, you will need to re-install these (google for a solution).
Set Up Development Environment
Create a directory for your CFML files outside of the default Windows location (e.g., default is usually C:\inetpub\wwwroot\). For the purpose of our install, I created a directory on a separate disk called: D:\DEV.
Copy and paste your CFML files and directories into the new DEV root Web directory. This will eventually be the directory where the Coldfusion installer places the CFIDE and CFDOCS folders.
Open IIS Manager and double-click the server instance in the left hand pane. Expand the “Sites” folder. Right-click the Sites folder and select “Add Web Site”.
Enter a name in the “Site Name” box (e.g., “test-site”). You will notice that the system will automatically create a corresponding Application Pool with the same name. NOTE: this is important to prevent conflicts between the DefaultAppPool (needed for SBS Web apps like OWA, RWW, etc.) and the application pool needed for Coldfusion to function properly in SBS 2008.
Point the “Physical Path” to the directory you created in step #1 above (e.g., “D:\DEV”).
Don’t worry about testing the connection. If you click “Test Settings” you may receive a warning that IIS cannot verify access to path (D:\DEV). Don’t worry about this for the time being.
Under “Host name”, enter a DNS path to your site (e.g., “dev.test-site.com”). Click “OK”.
Configure Application Pools for Installation
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane. Click on “Application Pools” to display the list of server application pools in the center pane.
In the “Actions” pane on the right-hand side, click “Set Application Pool Defaults”.
Change “Enable 32-Bit Applications” - the second item from the top – from “False” to “True”, and then click “OK”. NOTE: if you skip this step, Coldfusion will not properly create the required mappings during the install. We will change this setting back after the installation completes – more on this later.
Modify the application.host.config File for 64-Bitness
Click: Start > Programs > Accessories. Right-click “Notepad” and choose “Run as administrator”.
Open the config file from within Notepad – default location: C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config
Do a search and change this one line from:

To this:

Restart the IIS Admin service.
Set HTTP Compression
According to some threads I read, the http compression module can cause errors if you don’t disable it globally. To remedy this, perform the following:
Click: Start > Programs > Accessories. Right-click “Command Prompt” and choose “Run as administrator”.
At the command prompt, change directory to intetsrv by typing: cd inetsrv
Run the following command:
C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv>appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/httpCompression /-[name='xpress']
This will turn off HTTP compression for all sites in IIS.
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane. Double-click the “Compression” icon in the IIS section of the center pane.
Uncheck all of the boxes, then click the “Apply” button under Actions in the right-hand pane.
Recheck all of the boxes, then click the “Apply” button under Actions in the right-hand pane.
Restart the IIS Admin service. This should enable compression and coldfusion to work at the same time.
NOTE: if for some reason you need to reverse this, run the following command from the command prompt:
C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/httpCompression /+[name='xpress',doStaticCompression='false',dll='%windir%\system32\inetsrv\suscomp.dll']
INSTALLATION TASKS
Download the 64-bit installation package from Adobe – filename: coldfusion-801-wind64.exe.
Right-click the file and select “Run as administrator”.
Accept the terms of the License Agreement.
If you have an Enterprise license, enter it. For our purposes, just click the “Developer Edition” checkbox.
Select “Server configuration” – the default radio button.
I deselected all subcomponents and can’t guarantee that you’ll arrive at the same results if you select additional items like “.NET Integrated Services”. It should be fine, particularly if you install documentation. My preference was to keep the install as plain vanilla as possible.
Select the directory path for Coldfusion to install into – default is :C\Coldfusion
THE NEXT TWO STEPS ARE CRITICAL TO YOUR SUCCESS. Unselect “All IIS Websites” and select the “Configure specific IIS Website or another web server” radio button. Click “Add”, and then select your test Web site (e.g., “test-site”) under “IIS Web Site”. Hit “OK”.
Do NOT use the default directory path for the CF Administrator location (e.g., default path: “C:\inetpub\wwwroot”). Instead, point the installer to your new DEV root Web directory (e.g., “D:\DEV”). The bottom line, you want the installer to place the CFIDE directory and files within this folder, alongside your other CFML files and folders.
Enter an Administrator password.
Choose to Enable RDS, or not. I enable this by preference but it is not required. This allows you to make updates to files using a CFML editor directly vs. having to move/FTP the files over if you’re working remotely. Opponents to this argue that it’s potentially less secure, but for a lower environment I don’t see this as a major concern.
Confirm everything to kick off the install.
If all goes well you should see a message at the end stating that the install was successful. I recommend you uncheck the box that asks you to open the CF Administrator in the default Web browser after the install. NOTE: we will open it a different way during the post-installation tasks. The worst thing that will happen if you forget to uncheck the box is that you might receive an error that the command prompt hung – not a big deal – just close it and move on to the next (final) steps.
POST-INSTALLATION TASKS
Verify CF Installation:
The installation will create a new folder in your program group: Start > Programs > Adobe > Coldfusion 8. The default “Administrator” link will not work because it points to the wrong path: http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm. The “127.0.0.1” or “localhost” path as you may recall in IIS, points by default to the “C:\inetpub\wwwroot” directory. Our CFIDE files, however, are located within: D:\DEV.
To bring up the CF Administrator logon page, open up a Web browser and replace the “http://127.0.0.1” part of the path with the DNS path name to your CF environment (e.g., http://dev.test-site.com/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm).
This should bring up the Coldfusion Administrator Login screen. Enter in the Administrator password you created during the install to log in and configure your application server.
Verify that your test-site renders correctly by typing in your test URL into a Web browser (e.g., http://dev.test-site.com).
Fix Application Pool Defaults to Re-enable SBS Web Applications:
At this point, Coldfusion Administrator and your test CMFL Web site should be working properly. The problem is, default SBS Web applications like OWA, RWW and Companyweb will throw errors and fail to start. Fortunately, this is easily remedied by performing the following steps:
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane. Click on “Application Pools” to display the list of server application pools in the center pane.
In the “Actions” pane on the right-hand side, click “Set Application Pool Defaults”.
Change “Enable 32-Bit Applications” - the second item from the top – from “True” to “False” this time. This should re-enable the SBS applications, which would otherwise result in 500 errors (e.g., OWA, RWW, Companyweb, etc.). There is no need to restart IIS.
Open a Web browser and test that you can once again connect to OWA, RWW and Companyweb successfully.
In IIS click to highlight the application pool for your new site (e.g., “test-site”). In the right-hand pane, click “Advanced Settings”. Ensure that “Enable 32-Bit Applications” – second item from the top – is set to “True” for this application pool specifically.

First, it would be a good idea for you to specify what distro of Linux you're using, as not all are supported by Adobe.

In a nutshell, CF expects the 32-bit version of libc.so.6 to be in /lib, but it's probably not. You might be able to modify the installer to point to the correct location for that file, or you might be able to create a symlink to the file - but as the above link describes, creating a symlink might have negative consequences.
As for installing CF 8 64-bit, that's only available with Enterprise, not Standard. If you want CF Standard 64-bit, you need to upgrade to CF 9.

Hello Muffy,
It looks like you do not have WLS 5.1 service pack 6 installed correctly. I
say this because I do not see the sp6 message at the top of your log and I saw
this message in your log:
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Element "weblogic-enterprise-bean" allows no
