Brush Cursor Disappears while Enlarging It

The brush cursor is visible while the brush size is small, but upon enlarging it, it gradually disappears, section by section, until it completely disappears and i cannot tell what i am painting or cloning. I have messed around with the preferences, but  to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Phil

This sounds like an old problem, fixed a while ago, by nVidia.
Visit the nVidia web site and download the latest drivers for your video card.  Hopefully it's modern enough that they'll have new drivers for it that will solve your problem.

  • Brush cursor disappears when zoomed in.

    Hello,
As the title states and like many of you on here, I am having mucho issues with PS CS4. I'm running a dell precision 490 with xp x64, a quad-core 2.6ghz, 16gb ram, and an nvidia quadro fx 4600. I can't see why I am having issues other than x64 causing some of it. Anyhow, after running the opengl registry fix, now when I zoom in my brush cursor disappears or is just a fragment of the cursor. I'm using the suggested GPU driver, but am considering trying a beta version that I have found. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this and how did you fix it? Thanks in advance and thank god I still have CS2 installed.

As already mentioned a few dozen times: update your video card driver. This was a known problem with drivers that has already been fixed for most card/OS combinations.

  • My brush cursor disappear when i zoom in

    Hi,
My Photoshop has been upgraded to CS5.5 now.
When I used my circle brush tool before, I can see the size of my brush in a circle so
I know where to paint. Now this circle is disappearing when I use my brush tool when zooming in the picture.
I did change the Cursors in Perferences, I set it to Normal Brush Tip and Full Size Brush Tip.
Same thing again. I could only see the whole circle brush when looking at my image at 100%.
When I zoom in more than 100%, circle brush is gone and is replaced with a quarter circle.
    See the image before.
Do anyone know what I'm missing and what setup I need to make in order to bring back
    the normal brush cursor?
    Thanks.

Most likely, like other people posting this exact same problem in this forum, you have an older NVidia video card driver that you haven't updated in the past year or two.
Go update the driver from NVidia's web site.

  • Brush Cursor rotation while painting?

I am using a Wacom Cintiq with Wacom's Art Pen (Art Pen allows PS bushes to read full rotation). When I hover over and rotate my pen I can see the Brush Cursor rotate and move but when I place a stroke down the cursor does not move or rotate with the stroke. Is there an option that allows your Brush Cursor to stay active while you paint? If not, will this option be available?
    Mac OS X 10.7.3
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    16gb 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB

"This is expected behavior. Unfortunately it would be too big of a performance hit to update the cursor during painting."
So I can only assume by that statement that this feature has actually been created but not implemented into CS6 do to performance issues? I honestly believe that the minds of Adobe can write this feature without having performance issues if Corel Painter can do it. Also looking at the new features and gpu enhancements, why would performance be an issue? This is a beta, at least have the option be available to use or not use for users .
" Is there an option that allows your Brush Cursor to stay active while you paint? If not, will this option be available?"
The first question was answered but not the second question.
Thanks for your quick responce M Shaw

  • Cursor disappears while running Classic

We have one machine running Tiger and two still on Panther that have disappearing cursors when they run Classic apps, specifically QuarkXpress.
I saw several posts on this problem but didn't see any answers. Does anyone have one?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Brush Overlay Disappears Upon Enlarging

I have CS4 with all updates and XP SP3. My brush overlay circles disapears when trying to increase the size of brush with both the bracket and the brush size slider. I tried to change the cursor shape under Pref's but the result is the same. It still works ok, but is difficult to use when one cannot see the outline. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Phil

You have PS 11.0.1 so that's not it.
Have you tried updating the video card drivers?
What video card do you have?

  • Disappearing brush cursor

    Hi All,
I've just installed Aperture 3 bought in the App Store on my MacBook Pro and I've got rather annoying problem with it. When I want to use a brush to edit a picture the brush cursor (the two circles) disappears after a split of a second leaving me with the arrow cursor only. It's not there when I want to adjust the brush size or its softness either.
I tried installing it again but nothing changed.
If anyone could possibly help me to solve this problem I would really appreciate it.

    What happens if you:
    • Repair Permissions (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/First Aid)
    • Bring the OS and Aperture to their current versions
    • Repair Permissions again
    • Set the Mac to 32-bit operation
    • Restart the Mac and run only Aperture

  • Aperture 3.6: Disappearing Brush Cursor

I experience the following issue with brushes in Aperture:
In full-screen mode the brush only gets bigger to a certain amount, than does not visibly get bigger any more. If I try to paint with it, I can only see the standard mouse-pointer. The brush though, paints in the selected size. This is of course out of control, cause I can't really see what I am doing there. The brush works fine to a rather small brush size.
    My config:
    iMac 5K, AMD Radeon R9 M295X, OS X Yosemite 10.10, Aperture 3.6
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
the problem is solved - or maybe it disappeared just so. I made two changes to my machine:
First I got rid of x-rite profiling software and the running services wich came w/ the calibration software. I just did this, because the services caused lots of dumps and console messages.
Then I changed the preview size in Aperture preferences to "don't limit"; I had them limited to "half-size". I just guessed that using my library from a machine with a much bigger resolution (imac 5K) could have anything to do w/ my problem.
I did NOT generate new previews or had my originals newly developed. At least I did not tell Aperture to do so.
I do not know if all of the above has anything todo with the brush-cursor in Aperture, but it simply works now. Brushes size from zero to 200 and back flawlessly.
    Cheers,
    Rainer

  • CS4 + CS5 Brush CURSOR outline disappear when increase the brush size

    Hi
In Photoshop CS4 and CS5, the outline of the brush cursor starts to disappear when you increase the brush size.
It's OK under 65px in diameter and it's start to disappear over 66px. In 438px the outline is a single dot and over 439px the cursor outline is completely gone!
I read that it's caused by the old drivers for the video card. I'm using GeForce 8800GT and I updated the driver with the latest version form the nVidia web site. The problem is still here!
    HELP?

I'm seeing a bit of a pattern of multiple people reporting problems with nVidia 8800 cards.  I'm thinking nVidia isn't testing new drivers against this particular model very intensively.  See my comments on video cards and drivers in this thread:

  • Cursor disappears on macbook pro windows 8.1

I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 8.1.  Over the past few weeks, while doing work (email, Word, Powerpoint  - basic office work), the cursor would disappear.  I would need to restart the computer for the cursor to reappear.  Today, the cursor has disappeared and I can't get it back with a restart.  I have read many posts on disappearing cursors but none seem to fix my problem.  All other functions (as far as I can tell) are functioning.  I am using the trackpad.  All features work except for the ability to see the cursor.  I have tried the following:
    1. Restart
    2. Power off / on
    3. Looking for additional microsoft updates and updating.
    4. Removing updates that have installed in the past 5 days
    5. Removing update KB2919355 (It wouldn't let me so it reinstalled it)
    6. Mouse settings - I tried changing scheme, size etc - no change.  I was able to select within Mouse Properties - Press CNTRL to see Mouse - this works.  When I press the control button - it shows me a target of where the cursor is but it doesn't show the cursor - WORKAROUND.
    7. Added a mouse - it connected, made a sound as it connected but same situation as cursor - functional but can't see the cursor
    8. Went to MSconfig and tried booting in Diagnostic set up - CURSOR REAPPEARED - but no idea which app is causing the problem.
    9. I went back to MS Config and did normal mode - cursor disappeared at restart  and disabled all the start up apps and restarted - still no cursor.
    10. I pressed all the FN+F1, f2,f3 etc. - no change
    11. I checked to make sure I was only using 1 screen (and not extending my screen).
I have an appointment at the Genius bar on Monday but there has to be an easy fix to this.  Any ideas?

Additional Info - after working on this problem for 4 hours, I shut my laptop in frustration and took a break.  1 hour later I opened my mac and the cursor had magically returned.  No restart, no power on/off - nothing.  Frustration.  If anyone else has had this happen and has actually fixed the problem let me know. I'm sure it will reoccur.

  • Word 2011 for Mac Book pro - I have found that my cursor disappears sometimes when I click on a toolbar function. I found out it is a bug, that the Mac loses 'focus'. I can correct it temporarily by clicking on Format - Font - Cancel. Any info?

I have Word 2011 on a Mac Book Pro and have had problems with a dissapearing cursor - it makes editing tricky
After googling it I found out that there is a bug where the Mac loses focus if you click away from the document - it also does this with italics according to other users.
I had a play with it and found out that when I click on the toolbar in a document where this happens, the cursor disappears, e.g. changing font colour etc. And then, when I click on Format - Font - Cancel it returns
I'd be interested if anyone else has a comment to add, please do
    thanks

BTW (speaking as a Dad of 3 daughters in Grad school) if you don't already have and use a DropBox account, or some other similar online "cloud" based backup of your school documents, you should start doing so immediately. By keeping all of your important documents in the Dropbox folder on your computer, you have instant access to them from any other computer (or iPad), should you be w/o your computer while in for repairs (or if, God forbid, it is stolen). It's free for 2 GB of online storage, which is more than enough for a few years worth of Word documents, etc. (If you get other people to sign up via your email "invitation", then Dropbox gives you even more free storage space.) Every time you close a document, it is updated on the Dropbox servers (encrypted), if it is in the Dropbox folder (assuming you give it a few seconds to update before turning off your computer). Do a google search of "Cloud based storage comparisons" to compare the amount of free space each of the competing services give you.

  • Cursor disappears when a video using Flash is in Safari

    Hello,
My cursor disappears whenever I'm on a web page (using Safari) that uses Flash for video. It is 100% repeatable on any Flash/video website. On my other machine (an iMac running Snow Leopard) this does not happen.
If you would like to see what I'm talking about, as an example, go here:
    http://vimeo.com/
Let the page load so that the "introductory" video can play. While it's playing, move your cursor anywhere on top of the video that's playing and watch it disappear. It's hard to find it again.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.
(I'm using a MacBook Pro. Operating system is 10.7.1 Lion. All software updates are complete. The battery is charged, the computer is turned on, and it is plugged into electricity. I did a search of this forum and found one other question regarding this same topic, but nobody had answered it.)

The behaviour I get is that if the cursor is left on top of the video, it disappears after a second or two. As soon as I move the mouse or trackpad, it reappears.  Which is exactly what I would want to happen.  Perhaps when you are "waking up" the cursor you are doing so with a large random movement of the trackpad? It only takes the slightest movement to make it reappear more or less where you left it.
There is, of course, always the option of parking the cursor somewhere else on the screen where you will not lose it.

  • Cursor Disappears

Mac Pro running Mountain Lion & Photoshop CS5. Gotta say Mountain Lion seems to have its share of bugs. Here's one: Working away in Photoshop CS5, when I suddenly want to look at a web page, check email, etc. The cursor disappears the instant it leaves Photoshop and is invisible over the Finder, desktop, and all other apps. Only way to get it back is to Command+Tab thru the application switcher. Pathetic.

Apparently they do not talk to each other at Apple, and do not log in complaints.  See this post of Aug 6.

Update:  Contacted both Wacom and Apple. Haven't spoken to anyone at Wacom yet, but was very impressed with Apple's response. The tech called seconds after I hit the send button on the website.  Apprerently they haven't heard of the issue and had him Google the problem. Luckily my cursor disappeared as I was speaking with him.  Had me zap Pram (reboot holding Command-Option PR) and then rebooted in safe mode (holding shift) played around for a while but couldn't get the cursor to disappear.  Then booted normal and stayed on the line for a good while to see if it would happen again. We ended up disconnecting and calling back if or when it reoccurs and go from there...

  • My cursor disappears, and now Photoshop crashes in Mountain Lion

Apple, apple, apple! PLEASE fix the obvious bugs in Mountain Lion. I am a professional using Photoshop on a Mac for the last 20 years, and now your operating system has me and MANY OTHERS in despair becasue we can't work. Lots of professionals in despair on the Adobe site.
Adobe has built to your specs, and now you have bugs. Please fix them as a matter of priority. Apparently buying the newest Photoshop - CS6 - doesn't fix this either.
    1. Cursor disappears when using brushes, and changing the size of the brush. This persistent problem makes it impossible to work with brushes - like a moron is stealing your bursh every minute, rendering it invisible.
    2. Upon deleting my Photoshop preferences, it was briefly fixed, then returned.
    3. I tired uninstalling , then shutting down and restarting, then reinstalling Photoshop - now the whole program crashes - apparently I have discovered ANOTHER known bug in Mountian Lion. Here's a quote from an Adobe employee - at least they will talk to me -
"that's another issue -- and a bug in the OS code It was trying to draw a control, and failed when it tried to get the font size information -- we've seen that OS bug before, but I didn't realize it was still a problem in 10.8."
So now my 1,000 dollar software is rendered useless on the OS I just paid for.
Not good enough Apple. This is your sutuff up, you should fix this as a matter of urgency.

    raydsr wrote:
same problem here. Mountain Lion is terrible with Photoshop and Pro Tools.
apple, please listen and fix these issues or give us back Snow Leopard.
You can go back to Snow Leopard if you wish. It is still available. Adobe are responsible for their own products and compatability, Apple are responsible for theirs. In saying that, I have had no issues with Adobe CS4 or 5 nor 6 with either Lion nor Mountain Lion. Perhaps you need to uninstall CS and reinstall.
