Brush lines uneven. Where is my fault?

Hello,
i'm a Student, using CS4 on the following MacBook.
When I use the Brush or Eraser Tool, the created lines don't have straight borders - they are waves. When I select a Brush from the menu, it works fine untill I change the size.
Can somebody tell me where the mistake is that I'm making all the time?
You can see the results on the following picture, where i just connected two dots by holding the shift key, so normally there should be a straight line, mh?
This effect doesn't appear by using the stamp or any other tool. CS3 works fine, its just Photoshop CS4 that shows this weird effect.

Random Vectors/images color inverted in print, but not in PDF. Where does the fault lie?

Sent a PDF to the newspaper printer and some of the images had inverted/strange colors. However...
In one case I had duplicate images of a pink vector flower. SOME of the flowers were inverted, to a dark blue/black, and some were fine(pink). These were embedded vectors.
In other instances vectors, went from orange to blue/black, pink to blue/black, and yellow/white to blue black. I specify because in one vector image, a ring, the ring was yellow, but the diamond was white, and it all changed to the same blue/black in print.
Finally, there were two greyscale Tiff photographs of a pair of ladies. These are not embedded, and have not been altered at all and since the last time this paper has been printed, (which printed fine). This time, they were inverted. Nothing else on the page was inverted.
As far as I can tell, there is not a separation issue, and I have saved the file from InDesign CC to pdf using the same settings as dozens of times before. The pdf on my end looks fine. The printer says they just print what they receive, but as far as I can tell, there is no issue on our end. The fact that some duplicated images printed fine, and others did not seem to confirm this. Everything is properly linked. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is this a pdf, InDesign, or even an adobe problem at all, or it is something on their end? I have heard of inverted colors before, but can't find a solution (especially as I can't even see the problem on my end.)

Where does the fault lie? - in an environment where they (the newsprinter) collect up front, have no responsibility for quality and arrogantly believe, perhaps correctly, that you'll be back with another paying job in the future.
Check the file you sent via Acrobat Preflight or Output Preview for RGB elements.
Check the file you sent via Acrobat Preflight - Checks - For Transparency Used
Do any of these elements off color involve rgb or interact (with or near) any transparency?
(InDesign could show these attributes via the links panel or a Live Preflight. Both can be (probably should be in your case) changed via the PDF Export)

Lines appear where svg and other backgrounds overlap

I am preparing PDFs via XSL-FO, using RenderX. One construct in the PDF is produced from an SVG graphic that is placed side-by-side with a table cell. Both the SVG and the table cell have identical background shading. In Acrobat Reader X and Acrobat Pro 9.0, at 200% zoom or smaller, small horizontal and vertical lines appear where the SVG and cell backgrounds adjoin; at larger magnifications, these lines do not appear.
Why do these lines appear, and can anyone suggest how to prevent them from appearing?

Jagged brush lines

The issue is around the quality of the brush lines being jagged, faceted, stepped. Is there a solution for the default brushes that resolves this?

I've seen numerous threads on this, but still persists to be an issue. I've been using Photoshop since the beginning early 90's and I can't believe that this is still an issue.
Adobe will say it's a driver, graphic card, monitor etc issue. This doesn't seem to be an issue with Sketchbook Pro, Corel Painter, ArtRage pick any other drawing program.
The workaround I've been using in my opinion is clunky and that's to either sketch and pull linework in from any of the other sketch programs or scan drawings and pull into
Photoshop to manipulate further.
I have used many different setups over the years in professional settings with some of the best equipment available. I refuse to believe this is hardware related or Wacom related
since there are no issues with other software except for Photoshop.
I'm running Windows 7 and using a Wacom Intuos5. MacPro5,1 32.0 GB RAM 64-bit operating system, 12 cores, ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series.
Please help!

LR4.1RC The Moiré brush is missing - where did it go?

To be clear in LR4.0 there is a Moiré in the develop module when you click on the adjustment brush at the top right. In LR4.1RC the Moiré option is missing. I'm guessing tis is a bug and that Adobe didn't intentionally remove it.

Marker/chalk/brush line styles?

For arrows, lines, and shape outlines, I often use marker/chalk/brush type lines to give the presentation a more human, emotional, accessible, relatable feel - kinda like the guy on those UPS whiteboard commercials. I notice under the line style picklist this isn't a choice, but there is something called 'Show More' that provides a tease that there are more options, but nothing happens when I click on it.
If this simply isn't an option, where is the best place to submit a feature request?

Curious.
On my machine, clicking on the More options item opens the Inspector of drawings (not sure of the English name) which give access to several way to customize the shape.

Display column values as a series/legend on a line chart where one column value can be more than one category

Hi Everyone
I don't know if this is possible or not, so I will describe it. I have a column in a table called Filing. There are currently three values in it ("Abuse", "Neglect", "Voluntary") and each record has this populated. I also have
the below slicer for the column also.
I would like to add a fourth value called "Abuse/Neglect" that would identify instances where both an Abuse and Neglect petition was filed, which is a subset of the Abuse and Neglect records in the Filing column.
My question is, is it possible to create a line chart that has the 4 Filing possibilities: "Abuse", "Neglect", "Voluntary", "Abuse/Neglect" as the Series/Legend in the line chart?
The problem is that there are records that are more than one category: Abuse or Neglect records can also be Abuse/Neglect.

According to your description, there is a column with the values ("Abuse", "Neglect", "Voluntary") in your table, now what you need to is that add another value "Abuse/Neglect" in this column, and then use it
as Series/Legend in the line chart, right?
In this case, you can add calculated column to your table based on your logic. A calculated column is a column that you add to an existing PowerPivot table. Instead of pasting or importing values in the column, you create a DAX formula that defines

When using a path, jagged lines, not smooth lines, uneven lines

I am using a Mac, photoshop CS5
I created a path with Curves with the pen tool.
filled it in with a color light blue.
than I use the paint bucket to change it to dark blue.
This is when the curved lines become jagged, not smooth, uneven.
also I would like to use this as a mask, but with bg color changing from time to time.
any solutions?

Enable the retain transparency option when applying fills or use alternate colorization methods like using adjustment layers or creating the layer as a shape layer in the first place. Not sure what you mean by your mask thingy. You simply load the selection by Ctrl+clicking on teh layer thumbnail. this works no different than with any other layer.

Brush line jumps away from cursor?

Every time I use the brush, pencil or eraser tool, it jumps a couple of cm away from the cursor. The line then continues, and although the cursor shows up in the right place and the line itself is fine in terms of responsiveness and pressure sensitivity, it appears away from the cursor.
The other tools are fine- even the lasso tool draws a line in the right place. I assumed my monoprice tablet was just incompatible with flash, but the same thing happened when I tried my wacom tablet (bamboo pen and touch). Both tablets still work perfectly in photoshop.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for both tablets in turn, and even uninstalling and installing flash again, but theres no change. I also tried messing with the tablet settings, and removing all wacom preferences, but nothing worked.
Any ideas?
(I am using an up to date version of flash pro cc, with windows 8.1 on a laptop with an intel i7 processor, 16gb ram and dedicated graphics)

what is your machine resolution is it HIDPI machine ?
and if your text resolution is set to more than 100% , can you please change it to 100% and try again.

How do I create a brush / line drawing from a photo source?

Working on converting photos into brush or line drawings for a printmaking project.
What tools do I use to do this?
I saved the photos in maximum qulaity with 600 pixels / inch.
I need to have them large enough to be enlarged to 16" x 24"
Any suggestions? Tried to find this here on the help site but couldn't find what I needed to help me.

Which line in where clause gets executed first

Hi everyone!
I have some sqls which look like this
select ...
from table A, table B
where a.name = b.name
and a.name in (....)Now, which one of this is executed first? the where clause or the and clause?
Joining the tables is preferably done in where clause?
I am using Oracle 10g.
Please give me some guidance.

You need to have some kind of baseline of what acceptable performance is and then some metric to measure against the baseline to determine whether the process has acceptable performance or not.
What I mean by this is that "+too long+" is an arbitrary statement that cannot be evaluated. It the workload is huge, that workload will take some time too process. If a workload is tiny, that will take less time to process.
But "+too long+" gives no indication what the workload is. And "+large table+" is meaningless as a SQL against a billion row table can be minimal workload (e.g. unique index read), whereas a SQL against a small table can be a huge workload (e.g. cartesian join and full table scan).
You first need to determine WHAT the workload is, before judging it as "+too slow+".
I have no idea on how is the execution plan.And one of the first steps is looking at the execution plan. SQL code is source code (like C/C++ or Visual Basic source code). This cannot be executed - it needs to be parsed and compiled into an executable program.
For C/C++ and Visual Basic, that is typically an +.exe+ or +.ddl+ executable. SQL source code is compiled into an executable program called a cursor. The execution plan of that cursor shows the structure of this program and what this program will (technically) do step-by-step.
From the execution plan you can make calls such as, are the available indexes used optimally, did the CBO (the creator of the execution) made sane decisions based on the available data and stats it has for the tables and database?
The execution plan can also highlight errors in the source code - for example, table foo is scanned twice using a full table scan. This does not make sense to hit the same data set twice in a single SQL - so why is the SQL source code written that way?
The bottom line is that you need to know WHAT it is doing to determine if the performance is acceptable or not. If not, then you need to determine WHY it is doing what it is doing and whether there are better alternatives.

Can I change the pressure amount of a brush line –drawn by mouse pen- after I drew it?

Hey everybody,
I am using illustrator for doing some calligraphy and I am not really experienced with this program. I am using a mouse pen with pressure to draw/write calligraphies. My question is, can I change the pressure amount after I drew lines using brush tool. Let’s say I drew a line, it is good but still not satisfactory. I just want to do a little change in pressure amount in some segments –not all the line- on line. Does illustrator give me this option?

Line breaks where I didn't put them??

When I write emails I hit return where it seems there should be the end of a line. Then when my recipient replies, I see my email the way they received it and it
looks horrible because
it looks like this on some lines.
I can't figure it out. Am I supposed to not ever hit return when composing
emails? I think it happens most in the emails that I edit. But that's supposed
to be the beauty of email, you can edit what you say before you say it.....
but that's not supposed to show.....this has gone on ever since Tiger & maybe before. I can't find any settings to change this in preferences.

Myself, I just keep typing until it forces to the next line. I hit return when I end a paragraph or some the such. If you don't hit return it will do it force itself to the next line.
Another thing is that when you're composing you may have you mail open at a very small size or a very big size but the person you send it to will probably not have it exactly the same size so your type is not going to be seen exactly as you see it.
Also if the Mail program is supposed to disregard your return hit as a paragraph end or line change then it will also disregard mine when I want it to be paragraph end or line change.
As hard as this post is to read with so much per paragraph just think what it will look like if all of the returns were ignored. All I have written would look very busy and cluttered.

There used to be a line of tools above the Google box where we could access our gmail by clicking on the word gmail. Where did it go? Now I have no idea how to get into gmail.
