Brush location
I am about to build a new computer and I'm going to use the same hard drive so its going to be reformatted; I have quite a few downloaded brush set that i would like to keep but I can't find the files to transfer to a external hard drive. I looked under CS5 > Presets > Brushes and all I saw were brushes that came with CS5. I have a few of the files that were in my downloads folder but can't find the ones that I want, and I don't know the names of the brush sets. Any help would be appreciated.
Search your drive for *.abr.

J6450 brush location/parts list
While printing, a small golden brush on a sticky back came out attached to the printing product. I can't locate where it came from or a parts list to help me figure it out. Has anyone else experienced this or can you tell me where it goes? Thanks.
I do not have a J6450, but I can describe what the brush is and where it is located on some of the printer models I have here, that may help.
The brush is used to prevent a buildup of fibers on the underside of the carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges). On my Photosmart 2610 and Officejet 6310 this would be accessed as follows: Open the access door as if you were going to replace a print cartridge. Now gently move the carriage to the left out of the way. The strip would attach at far right edge of the service station area, aligned flat in the horizontal plane. The brushes should be just at the level of the bottom of the carriage as it moves into the service station.
Do not be alarmed by a buildup of ink in bottom of the service station, this is normal and should not be disturbed.

HotPixels show up after several LR processing steps
Dear all,
I am having two problems with Nikon Raw Processing and LR4.1.
1st: I am producing and processing content for ESO (European South Observatory), especially TimeLapses. Those sequences consist of hundreds of Images in hundreds of folders. Source files are either from D3s, D4, D700, D7000 or the like.
Several development changes are applied to single key images in a sequence, and those later applied to all images in that sequence. Problem is that after a certain amount of development changes (that are written in to the XMP sidecar files with LR4), hot pixels start to show up in the images that were not visible before.
Seems like the oversaturated pixel information (Hot Pixel) that is always stored within the RAW images, is lost after a certain amount of development changes.
2nd: is there a known trick how to force LR4 into updating ALL thumbnails after development changes, including those, that are outside the currently visible grid view?
It is very time consuming to manually page up and down the grid to have LR4 updating the thumbnails on each page (of for example a folder of 1200 images) so that one gets a preview of the TL sequence with the current development changes in Library View.
Thanks for any help
ChrisHi Trshaner,
yes, to all your suggestions. Tried them alreadym and it's in our workflow.
With Astro-TimeLapse and/or panning motions it is even more complex. You immediately see the static hot pixels during a timelapse motion on a moving landscape.
First you cannot use the adjustment brush on stars - it looks odd when they move trough and brush areas fill and empty with other stars during the Timelapse Motion. Second once you pan or have a dolly movement some brush areas "move" trough trees or other parts of the landscape. it looks very ugly. what you can do is to stop brushing the hot pixels there for the the couple of images, or do all by hand means adjusting the healing brush location outside the tree or other part of the landscape moving by.
enclosed are some screenshots with brushed hot pixels, and the start of a pan and the end - the timelapse motion in this instance goes over 344 frames (not that much, but enough to work on for a couple hours).
remains my question:
I don't see those hot pixels during the first processing steps which are all synced over all images of a set (lighten darks, color correction, gradation curve etc). at some point during processing and developing they start to show up. And I can't remember that this was the case with LR3.
any idea on how to force LR4 to update ALL previews also those outside the grid are still very appreciated.
this here illustrates my problem:
(watch it until the end how it should look like on preview)
https://vimeo.com/43257787
pw: starry_lr4
it got a bit better now with a current MBP 15" 2.6 Ghz Core i7 and SSD's and Mountain Lion (Lion was quite slower), but still previews outside the grid do not get updated...
all the best

Where is the proper location to store brushes or brush presets?
Illustrator has a user section. Photoshop CS5 will display your custom brushes in the preset manager.
I use a Mac OSX 10.8. When I download brushes and install them in the User/Application Support/PS/Presets/Brushes they will appear in the preset manager without having to 'load' brushes each time. Yet, when you make a new preset and save the .abr file you can not save them to the proper location since Lion has the library folder hidden by default.
For instance, when downloading brushes, it's easier to combind multiple sets into one presets. I don't want 20 different smoke abr files. Yet, I can't save them to Application Support.
No one has a clear understanding of how this works (at least not on the internet.) The best thread (from Adobe forums) I found from 2011 stated I should do the above steps, but then a few other users reported thats out of fashion.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!Hi,
Here's some pointers on how to make the user library visible with 10.7 and 10.8:

Brushes & action location problems in CS folder
For some reason I can't find all my actions and brushes on the presets CS6 folder, I am just wondering where could the system have stored them, any suggestions as to where to look? Thanks
Hi Veronica,
You can search your hard drive for .abr (brushes) and .atn (actions) files and check do you see any extra files apart from already present in the preset folder.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums. -
My Local Adjustment Brushes no longer recognized after LR 4.3 update
After running 4.3 update, my local adjsutment brushes are no longer recognized and appearing in the Lightroom GUI. They are all still located under 'Lightroom' folder --> 'Local Adjustment Brushes' folder (nothing has changed and I see all files are still there in Finder), but no matter how many times I've restarted LR, they are not showing up in the GUI.
Please advise ASAP!! Thank youIt's not clear from your initial problem description, but are you talking about local adjustment presets that you have created yourself (i.e. user presets), or are you talking about the standard presets supplied by Lightroom (Burn, Dodge, Soften Skin, etc)?
If it's the latter, go to Preferences>Presets Tab and click on "Restore Local Adjustment Presets". -

Illustrator is not working as it should...
I want them to compare the original size and date of creation with what I have installed on my computer... I have installed several times with my original CD and I tried once downloading the files from the adobe site (using my own license). I suspect the files has been modified or renamed on my laptop by an external unauthorized user causing the malfunction of the application.
Customer services does not support CS3 anymore and the updates / patches in the adobe site does not solve the problem... They redirect me to the forums for support...
Presently, my problem is that after creating a swatch and drag it to the swatch panel, it does not fill as it should a new form... Now, after deactivating and activating my license the swatch seems to fill the new form but when the filter that the swatch has is persistence in the next filling object created even though a different color is being used as a fill (X)... Help in the creation of a swatch over the internet just complicate the issue.
That's why I would like to know whether updates on my product are being received or files are being replaced without my knowledge...
Thanks...
PS Do you know how to contact a staff adobe employer on the forums?I saw your post today.
Moving the hosts file to the desktop will make it part of a roaming profile? That's means that activation will occur from any computer that are part and available of my microsoft local network. How can I make sure that the program I access is the one located on my local C drive and not in a roaming profile in maybe a cloud environment or from an unknown equipment with access to my network without authorization. I have only 1 laptop where I install locally the CS3 suit
My host file has not entries on it and even when trying to copy to the desktop the activation can not be completed, same problem. Days ago I used the trial option instead of the activation, after trying to activate the whole product as you mentioned in your reply, the trial period remaining got back to the original 30 days.
I have recently noticed that I have a roaming profile with a workspace file different to the one I have on my local disk (3 files basic, panel and type). On the roaming profile I see a directory for adobe illustrator CS3 settings \ workspaces \ AIWSPrefs file which has different entries than the one I have at the local drive. Normally I do not customize a lot the workspace or safe the setting used, I load the brushes, swatches, etc manually from the location they are on my local drive so the swatches and brushes directories on the roaming profile are empty instead. Adobe Eureka and Kuler palettes exists on the basic local file not in the roaming one.
The directories on my roaming profile are:
Acrobat
Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings
Adobe PDF
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Color
Dreamweaver 9
Flash Player
Fonts
Headlights
Linguistics
Logs
LogTransport2
Save For Web AI
Updater5
Workflow
XMP
Inside illustrator roaming directory, the following files :
AI Color Settings
AIAppResources
AIMenuFaceCache
AIPrefs
Brushes
Composite Fonts
Graphic Styles
IllustratorFnt.lst
Kinsoku
MojiKumi
New Document Profiles
Plug-in Cache.ARTX
Plug-ins
Print Presets
Save for Web Settings
Swatches
Symbols
Transparency Flattener Presets
Workspaces
In the above scenario, which workspace and other functions files will take precedence? How can I avoid the roaming profile?
Not being able to copy files from the roaming profile to my local disk, I wondering how this roaming profile was created and why the files are in there. Those files have a date from last month, the local files were more recently installed.
Your comments will be appreciated at your earliest.
Thanks in advance -

I Tried Several Times but no Results
Could some One Help with this Problem
Thanks LyleI'm sorry, but I was getting a headache half way through your list, but these file locations will tell you where to put your brushes. (That sounds a bit rude, but is not intended to be)

Other Dynamics brush option in CS 5
Hey, I have CS3 on one computer and CS 5 on another. On CS3 my dynamic brush options have a section called 'Other Dynamics' that allows me to change jitter opacity, but my CS5 does not have that option in the same area.
Does CS5 not have 'Other Dynamics' for brushes or is it just somewhere else?
ThanksAdobe is following in Microsoft's foot steps they seem to want to drive their users crazy or up the wall by changing names and locations of things. They don't worry too much about braking actions that might use a menu Item they rename or remove. Try Transfer brush option.

Photoshop CS6 - Screen flickering when using brushes with new MacAir 2013
Would the Adobe team please respond to the issues reported by several users:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/5449199
A number of users experience severe screen flicker in Photoshop CS6 when using any of the larger brush type tools (cloning, eraser, brush, spot healing, burning, and dodging). As many on this thread are experiencing, it is awfull and unusable! The flicker is screen wide black boxes, sometimes the whole screen goes black. It only seems to happen when we put the cursor over the image to edit.
Hardware: MacBook Air 13", Haswell 1.7 GHz, 8GB, 512 SSD Software:
Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2 20130105.r.224, OS X v10.8.4 (and perhaps others)
Looks like a CS6 is not compatible with teh new MacAir. Please look into this and advise.
Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.1.2 (13.1.2 20130105.r.224 2013/01/05:23:00:00) x64 Operating System: Mac OS 10.8.4 System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:69, Stepping:1 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, HyperThreading
Message was edited by: GSVAIAn update:
I went to the Apple store and brought myself a more recent MacBook Air (13", 4/256 FYI, they were out of the 8/512 model). I can't reproduce *exactly* what you're showing, but got the flicker to happen by resizing the cursor. Also, while painting, the screen seems to stop updating except for the cursor -- not only is Photoshop unable to draw, but other applications stop drawing as well. And a few times it hasn't even updated the cursor (while all other apps seem frozen). That's not normal.
When I see the flickering, I frequently see the menubar and other UI elements draw at the wrong location on the LCD, then black, then redraw in the correct location -- repeat in different positions and lots of "static" until I stop changing the cursor. That's more evidence of a hardware or and odd driver issue. The odd thing is: it doesn't happen all the time. It's possible that the one we have at the office also shows the problem, but we didn't test long enough.
I'm trying to reach out to my hardware contacts at Apple - but it's a weekend before a holiday, so we may not make progress immediately.
One thing that would be useful here: the model of MacBook Air that you have that shows (or doesn't show) the problem. -
Upgraded to Elements 11, Can't find all of my brushes
I have some brushes I purchased that I was easily able to load and use in version 9, but now that I've upgraded, several of them don't show up at all when I go to load them - but I KNOW they are there. I can navigate to the presets/brushes in version 9 and load others, just not ALL - and I have no idea why some don't appear, while others do - they are all .abr files.. I tried to copy/paste from the version 9 folder to version 11, and I even tried re-downloading the brushes from the site I purchased them from - no go. It's like Elements 11 refuses to see them for some reason - less functionality in the newer version maybe...? (I sure hope not...)
Thanks in advance for any useful advice.
M.Navigate to the folder "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\11.0\Presets\Brushes" and paste all your downloaded brushes file (.abr) in this location. Close and relaunch PSE. All the brushes will get loaded in PSE.
Do reply if you are unable to load. -
Adobe photoshop licensing for this product has expired, backup swatches and brushes.
when i open adobe photoshop CS3 and flash CS3 a box appears saying " licensing for this product has expired. please reinstall or contact help"
i have tried all the soutions and are at to "reinstalling" i dont have the disc or the code.
all i am worried about is getting a copy of my swatches/palates and brushes. Is there any way of saving the swatches and/or brushes?
or if i were to install the CS5 version of photoshop would it automatically convert my settings, (swatches and brushes) to the newer verison?Somebody posted this very helpful file location chart just yesterday, and already it has been useful.

But you're crashing in QuickDraw code -- Apple code that has been fragile for a while now, and seems to have gotten even more fragile in 10.7.
And we saw the same crash location a lot starting in MacOS 10.6 (10.5 wasn't as bad), but Apple wasn't interested in fixing QuickDraw. -
Could not use the Brush tool because there is not enough RAM? Photoshop CS6?
That and I couldn't even save a project I was working because (There was not enough RAM)
My computer is running Windows 7 with 4 (3 usable) GB Ram, Pentium Dual Core; @ 2.00 Ghz
-I have allocated all possible RAM to CS6
-I set 6 scratch disks (the first two are 1TB external HDD)
-I fixed the file peeling so that there is quite a bit of it
- I have Photoshop CS5 still installed (it works fine) as well as Elements 9, I don't know if that could be a problem or not.
I like the new features of CS6 especially the new 5000 px brush, but half the time I can't even use it because of this problem! What can I do to fix it?
I mostly use it for digital art so the pictures get to be at most 5000-3300 pixels. I get the problem mostly when I use brushes at 5000 px. CS5 works just fine and it uses the scratch disks I emplace, it seems as though CS6 doesn't even use them.Obviously, you are running Win7 32-bit OS. Is that correct?
What are the full specs. of your Windows Virtual Memory, the Page File? What is its size, location, and is it static, or dynamically managed?
With a 32-bit OS, I would set the Page File to a fast, internal, physical HDD, set it to be statically managed, and size it to about 2.5x the installed RAM (~ 10GB in your case, and with a 32-bit OS).
That should provide more resources, and by being statically managed, save you CPU cycles too.
I also agree that you do NOT want to allocate all RAM to PS, as the OS needs some too. That will be counter-productive.
Good luck,

Downloading brushes from a collaborated library.
Hi I am using a pc, I had a previous adobe account and had made a bunch of brushes and shapes I signed in to that account and clicked collaborate, I entered my new adobe account email and sent the invite. I signed back into my new account and it shows that I have an invite to have access to a library, I accepted the invite. But I do not know how to use the brushes or shapes in my library. It just gives me pictures of each brush and shape and the only action I can do is collaborate. I don't know how to download them to my current library so that I am able to use them. Any help would be great! Thanks!!
Click on each one in your custom brushes you want to keep, this put these in your brushes palette,
Save your brushes palette as the same filename & location as your custom brushes.
