Brush Opacity.

Does anyone know how to photo shop calculates the resulting color when using brush opacity?
For example If I paint over a section with 100% brush opacity, then go over it again with another color with 100% brush opacity then the new color replaces the old. But what happens if when I go over the first color with a new color set at 50% opacity? How does Photoshop calculate the resulting color?
Any insight or if someone could direct me where I might find this information please let me know.
Thanks.

You could experiment with the Eyedropper, and figure it out that way. . .

  • How do I change my brush opacity in Photoshop CC 2014

I can't change my brush opacity. I have the change brush hardness with HUD picker unchecked on my settings, but when I Alt+Right Click+Drag up or down, left or right, it only changes my brush size. How do I change my brush opacity?

On Windows, Control + Alt + up/down changes Opacity.

  • Turn off tablet control of brush opacity

Hi, I have a Wacom Intuos3 tablet that I am using with Photoshop CS5 Extended. I want to have a brush that changes size (shape dynamics) with pen pressure, but I want opacity to stay at a solid 100%.
It looks like pen opacity is controlled under "Transfer", so I'll try to disable it, but as soon as I start drawing, the transfer settings reverts back on and pen opacity is enabled again. How do I turn that off and keep it off?
I used to be able to do this with Photoshop CS4 but I don't really understand this new CS5 brush interface.

The usual cause of this in cs5 is having the Override brush opacity enabled.
There two buttons on the tool options bar, one overrides opacity and the other
    oveverrides size.
Try clicking on the Override brush opacity to disable and see if that makes
    a difference.

  • Is there a way to change brush opacity?

    Lemme explain.
I just got Creative Cloud for a project I'm doing. Keep in mind we're on a relatively tight budget- it's a school project, but I'm not even in high school yet. So other alternatives are out- I'm NOT changing programs.
Well, I animate (or at least, I'll be learning to) in the style of hand-drawn animation. I don't like the way the computer moves shapes for me with tweens. My main issue is with sketching messy frames- I can't do it very well with the pen tool. Here's an example I did in Paint Tool SAI:
It's the difference between using pencil and pen- pencil on left, pen on right. Even if it looks pretty good, it's hard to do, and doesn't feel right. What would make things a LOT better is if, like I was told somewhere, I could tone down the brush opacity. That way, I could sketch like I do with the marker tool on SAI and it would be just as good. I'm using the latest version of Flash. Please help me! unu

    Hi Amelia,
Which device are you using Flash Pro CC on? This is the information I have from the team.
If you are using a pen, can you try switching to a mouse and let us know if you still have the same issues?
    Thanks,

  • Brush Opacity Less Than 100%

I am using Photoshop CC 2014.   On application of a Brush stroke, the color laid down is less, far less, than the 100% that is set for Opacity and Flow.  This problem does not exist with the installed Photoshop CC.  Probably, if I were to guess, the opacity is about 30%.  There is nothing anywhere else where the setting have been changed to cause this to happen.
This presents an intolerable situation attempting to paint with the Brush, either directly on the image or in a Mask.  Amazing how it will mess up the resulting image Mask.  Below is a screen capture.
I have CC 2014 installed on a laptop and a desktop.  This problem occurs on both.
Both computers using Windows 7, the desktop which is primary photo/image editing computer has 16 Gb of RAM and CPU is an i7

Try resetting the Brush Tool by right clicking on the Brush icon on the tool options bar and clicking on Reset Tool
If that doesn't work, i'd reset the photoshop preferences and see if that makes a difference.
Press and hold the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys just after starting the launch of photoshop
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the photoshop settings file
    Press Yes

  • Brush Opacity and Spacing Problem

I've run into two problems using the brush tool:
    1. When I use a low opacity to gradually build up highlights in a drawing the opacity seems to skip a few strokes: Nothing is actually happening after a fes brush strokes and then suddenly there's a bright line, nothing inbetween. It looks like i was drawing with 50% opacity even though it was actually 5%. All other option such as pressure sensitivity are turend off.
    2. When drawing a straight line with the brushtool, and then zooming in, I can see the individual spots that make up the brushstroke. It looks like brushspacing was on even though it wasn't.
    I use cs6 on a windows 7 platform and have a wacom intuos 4.
my graphic card is a GeForceGT 540M

This should illustrate the problem-  The brush was set with size and opacity set to pen pressure.
I just filled the screen row by row, left to right with marks.  As you can see, at random times the brush loses all size and opacity sensitivity.
Imagine delicately trying to render something like hair and this happening regurlarly at random times!

  • Brush opacity lower

My brush seems to be at around 20% opacity although the settings are set to 100% and normal. I didn't change anything. It worked fine earlier and now it isn't. Everything else is working as it should. I tried to reset my brushes and that didn't work. I restarted the program and my laptop and neither worked. I really don't want to uninstall and reinstall if at all possible.

    Suggest that you reset preferences.

  • Healing brush opacity?

In PS CS4, how do I get the color to transfer to new location so that underlying color does not show through? I see no setting for opacity for this brush.
    I'm new, thanks.

Hmm, It seems to be working differently for me now. Probably me being tired . I guess I'm just learning how it works. Here are some tests I just did. The top left is a cloned section using the Healing Brush with the "Current Layer" setting - looks identical to the original (even when not sitting on top of the original bg layer), and also looks just like the Clone Stamp (using either setting). The  bottom left is a cloned section using the Healing Brush with the "All Layers" setting – NOTICE THE BLENDED OPACITY (as one would expect it to work).
I guess this is the normal difference of the two different Healing Brush settings...?
I'm working in both CS5.1 and  CC (trial version). Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS5.5 Brush Transfer / Opacity won't Disable

Now, I assure you, I have tried to disable this feature several times in a row, but as soon as I change the Opacity Jitter to "Off" and start painting, it turns on again.  I tried unchecking "Transfer" all together without any luck.  Even the brush preview on the pallet show opacity linked to pressure.  Attached is a picture of my pallet.
How do I fix this?  Can I submit this as a bug?
    Stats:
    Photoshop CS5.5 v12.1 x64 , Windows 7 x64, Cintiq 21UX  with 6.1.6-7 driver.

Make sure you don't have The override for brush opacity enabled in the tool options bar.

  • Burn tool effect still happens when painting with low opacity/flow

i posted this before, and it wasnt resolved. i figured i'd wait for an update for it to be fixed. i'm using a samsung galaxy note 10.1, and i just downloaded the 14.2 andrioid update, and the problem still occurs. please fix this issue. photoshop touch could be the most useful app i own, but, as it is, it is completely unusable for me. when will the next update happen, and will it attempt to fix the brush opacity/ flow burn issue? The more time the paint brush remains unusable, the less familiar i become with photoshop, and the more familiar i become with autodesk sketchbook. I want to like photoshop better, but for now i just could not recommend it to anyone seeking to use it for digital painting.
the dark spots on this image were made without any change in my brush color. i simply made a lighter touch, with the pressure related opacity control on.

So, I realize I'm answering my own post, but just in case anybody else has this issue, this might be helpful. Tonight, I went into task manager (using a galaxy note 10.1...which, in turn, is running on android 4.0.4), touched the RAM manager tab, and pressed the "clear ram" button. i started up photoshop, opened a project that's been pending for some time, and the burn effect was no longer happening. At very least, it was no longer happening at a very noticeable level. So that's my solution. Clear your RAM every time you're about to open Photoshop.

  • Transparent Brush?

    Hello everyone,
I know that there is a feature in Photoshop cs6 which will change your brush into a tool that affects the opacity of the layer it is used on.
That is to say, if layer 1 was all blue and layer 2 was all green, using this brush tool on just one small spot on layer two would make that spot transparent, revealing the blue layer 1 underneath.
I would like to know - what is this tool called, and how may I access it?
Please do not confuse this with brush opacity, which is affecting the opacity of the image drawn by the brush. I am looking for a tool which affects the transparency of the layer it is draw onto. I am sure this feature exists, as my university tutor has used it, but I had forgotton how to access it.
    Thank you in advance

In the option bar, set the brush Mode to "Clear". You can also use the Brush option for the Eraser tool.

  • How to turn off the brush transparency view when resizing the brush on CC?

So, when Adobe introduced the "brush preview" when using the Control+Option drag to change the brush size/hardness (not sure if it's called this way), I was ecstatic! It made my workflow much faster without having to go to the menu to change the brush size or to the bracket keys. Now on CS6 they added a feature that basically broke that for me. Now it not only shows the size/hardness, but it also shows the transparency. It  sounds like a great idea, and it is when you work with bigger opacities, but I work a lot with opacities below 10% and it basically becomes invisible, so it's hard to know if I'm using a hard/soft brush when adjusting the brush size. Is there a way to turn just the transparency preview off?
    Thanks!

OK.  Looks like it is me that is confused, but I thought it should have been Cmd plus Option, but Jullieanne Kost mentiones Control Option in this post
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2012/07/changing-the-brush-opacity-in-photoshop-cs6.html
Which points to this old thread where we discussed the feature about 18 months ago

So other than changing the HUD setting in General Preferences, there does not appear to be a really nice solution.  Noel points out that it should be doable, and I agree that it would be nice.  It is kind of ironic that we have reached a state where even keyboard shortcuts are too clunky to use, but the mouse option is such a nice feature, it would be great to extend its functionality.

  • CS4 spot healing brush

When I use the spot healing brush or the healing brush, the actual output is a tiny spot in the center of the round brush cursor. It doesn't matter what size the brush is; it still outputs just a point in the center of the round cursor. It's driving me crazy!
My paint brush was doing the same thing until I turned off the Shape Dynamics.
    Settings:
Clone Source > Show overly (unchecked)
    Clone Source > Clipped (unchecked)
Brushes > Shape dynamics (unchecked, locked)
PS CS4, Mac Pro, OSX 10.5, 10G RAM
    Thanks for your help.

This is the healing and spot healing brush or tool if you wish.
This not a bad feature request and perhaps a brilliant one Phil, to have the healing and spot healing and patch tool to have the option to heal on a separate layer so you never actually do anything to the original with these tools and give you a chance to edit what you have done with the eraser and history brush, opacity settings and mode blending.
Also a chance to redefine the edges of the healed or patch regions. It's an outstanding inspiration. You set the reference and then when you start using the tool it creates a layer if you need yet another layer you hold down a key combination and a new layer associated with
future use of the tool is on that layer unless you hod down a key combination that sets you back to the previous layer.
This is just a wonderfully delightful ingenious impulse.
