Brush Preview Broken? PS CC 2014

Hello. Just upgraded to PS CC 2014, and have noticed that a reasonable brush preview only works with a tiny brush. A generous sized brush seems to break the preview. Anyone else getting this?
• Troubleshooting so far: "Reset Brushes..." via Preset Manager (no impact).
• Screenshots below were created with a standard brush (second brush in the default presets). The only customization I did was to turn the spacing down to 1% (though the default 25% still looks screwy) and to turn on pressure sensitivity/pen pressure for my wacom (though it looks screwy even without sensitivity turned on).

Hi Benjamin,
Yes I see your problem and I'm having it too. In fact it drives me crazy, I've tried calling adobe on it but no one seems to know how to fix it. I will try again tomorrow and let you
know what they say.

  • Brush preview much smaller in Photoshop CC 2014...how to make bigger?

    Hi There,
I noticed in the new version of photoshop CC 2014 that the brush preview size in the brush window is much smaller then before.
Is there anyway of making this bigger? Any help or recommendation would be awesome.
    Thanks!

That doesn't help me or people will large displays. I hope it's something that they will correct because that preview really helps me
understand how my brush will apply on the screen and possibly interact with other brushes that I've already done on my artwork.
Do you have any say on how Photoshop makes it's changes and updates?

  • In CC214 PS Why has adobe removed the "print Size Button"  And why have they made the Brush preview window so small you can't see the effects to accurately adjust them?

In CC214 PS Why has adobe removed the "print Size Button"  And why have they made the Brush preview window so small you can't see the effects to accurately adjust them?
These two things need to be remedied in their upgrades because It's become such a bother I've had to revert to older versions of PS.

Yea, and it's a pain to get to.  What was the rational for removing the print size button?   With the magnifying glass tool selected in older versions of Photoshop you would get a button that says "print size" right next to Actual pixels, Fit Screen, Fill Screen. Now I have to go out of my way and dig for it if I want to see the print size.  Of all the buttons you could have taken away, why not fill screen?  I never use that.
Besides the point I just downloaded the Oct Upgrade for PS and surprise! Nothing has changed and these are two big black eyes on newer versions of Photoshop.   The Brush preview window is  unchanged in CC but in CC2014 it's basically worthless.  If you apply a texture to a brush you can't properly see the scale of the texture, the spacing, scatter, etc...

  • Brush Preview

Just downloaded a CS5 upgrade on my PC.  According to the learning videos with Lynda.com, when I click on the new bristle brush and select the brush tool, the brush preview is supposed to pop up.  My does not, nor am I able to acess this at the bottom of the brush preset box which is indicated by the eye and brush together.  Can someone help me figure out how to acess this preview?  Much appreciated.

Make sure that you have OpenGL Drawing enabled in Edit->Preferences->Performance. If it is then go to View->Show->Brush Preview

  • Bug ACR 7.2 adjustment brush previews

I realize this is a redundant post - I want to make sure someone at Adobe notices.   Adjustment brush previews are turning off when you hover the cursor over the edit pin, and stay off until off until you hover cursor over another pin.  Neil Carboni took the time to make screen shots that show the problem. See previous post and my Windows 7 x64 specs at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1083526?tstart=0
The Adjustment brush previews work as expected so long the Show Mask option is checked AND one of the of the Adjustment Brush pins is selected; so one mask is always showing.
For example, when a previously edited image is first re-opened in ACR, no brush pins are selected (Show Mask can be checked). If I hover my cursor over one of the pins (for example I have 6 brush adjustments) the mask flashes on for the associated edit, as expected. When I move the cursor away, the edit preview disappears as if the edit never happened, but the pin remains. I then select one of the pins by clicking on it to make that edit live. Now when I move my cursor over a pin the mask for that pin flashes on, when I move the cursor away from that pin the preview of the edit is showing. Now the preview works for any brush edit.
Makes working with multiple adjustment brushes extremely difficult - not always sure if the results of a previous edit are showing. Have to constantly move my cursor and hover it over another brush pin to verify that I am seeing results of previous edit. If the preview is not showing, as soon as I put down the brush on that edit, the preview springs to life. I do not see this problem using ACR 7.1 on my Vista x64 machine.
As my previous post indicates, I have updated the driver on my FirePro V4900, uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop, etc.  Did not see the problem after I reinstalled Photoshop and briefly used ACR 7.  Problem came back once I updated.

Well, for one, the current version of ACR is 8.3 by now.
More information would be needed about your system before troubleshooting steps can be suggested.

  • Brush Preview Color

I am using Photoshop CS4 for Windows. I thought if I check animated zoom in Preferences>General, and select a brush preview color in Preferences>cursor, I could Alt+Click+Drag and not only see my brush changing size, but with color. It's not happening. Is it supposed do do this, or amu I doing it wrong?
    Thanks!

If your video card won't support OpenGL, Photoshop will disable it.

  • How to disable anoying and slow stamp brush preview? CS5

    Hello,
i have this problem in Photoshop CS5
as always, with nev version we got new features which nobody needs and slow down the performance... and/or workflow
for example: anoying preview under the stamp brush, which is unbelievably slow and cannot be turned off
next thing is brush shape preview, i often use large brushes and i need to see the whole shape, not just one quarter of the brush, please change that
    thanx

If not for the new features, why upgrade Photoshop?
You have video driver problems.  You are also likely wrong that OpenGL Drawing is turned off on your system, assuming by "stamp brush preview" you mean  the overlay preview inside the brush for the Clone Stamp tool, because with OpenGL disabled you wouldn't be seeing that overlay.  Keep in mind that when you make OpenGL changes in the Edit - Preferences - Performance menu you should close Photoshop and reopen it.
Why do things work differently in CS5?  The simple answer is that Photoshop demands more of the video drivers than its predecessors.  And your computer / software setup isn't up to the task.
Chances are it can work better...  Download the latest driver for your nVidia video card.  http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
By the way, the Clone Stamp overlay (assuming that's what you're describing as the "stamp brush preview") is not "unbelievably slow" on most peoples' systems - it's perfectly interactive and a real help.  To turn off the Clone Stamp overlay, choose Window - Clone Source, then uncheck the [ ] Show Overlay setting.

  • Problem with brush preview in PS CS4

When my instructor shows the brush preview mode, his brush looks like the selected brush, which means that if there's a lot of feathering on it, he can see that. In the same mode and with the same cursor settings in the preferences, I only get a circle indicating the size of the brush. There's nothing to see about the relative hardness of it. COuld this be because I'm running on Windows XP? If not, how can I get to see the brush the way he does. Thanks for your help.

Can you use Open GL with Windows XP (if your video card supports it, obviously). For some reason I keep thinking you need Vista.
Yes. Read this Knowledge Base article on OpenGL in Photoshop.

  • Mac. brush preview not anti aliased.

not sure if this is a bug, my friend recently bought a mac and is running CS6, the brush preview doesnt seem to be smooth as usual, as you can see the hardness is 50% and should have a soft edged preview display, but thats not occuring, and the brush also draws with hard edges in the preview window, this was the default soft edged brush selected first.

That looks like you might be using the Pencil tool (notice that none of the previews are gray, just black and white).

  • Brush Preview Problems, please help.

I can't get the red brush preview to work. I can change the brush size through the shortcut (alt, right-click, drag), but it doesn't preview.
Also, when I try to change the hardness, I get no preview at all either. The command works, but all I get it a round hairline.
Thanks in advance for your help

Wolf, thanks for your reply! I think I read somewhere that OpenGL only runs on Vista? Or mabe 64bit OS? I'm not sure...
I'm running Win XP 32bit SP3 with an nVidia, NVS 290, 256MB dual DVI Graphics Card and dual monitors.

  • Brush preview size / Size of actual brush stroke do not match?

    Hello.
I recently acquired a Macbook Air (2012 version) and it came with CS5 extended preloaded. Everything seems to be working fine, with the exception of these two things:
    1. Whenever I select any--that means any--brush and put down a dot or stroke, the width of the stroke is ALWAYS smaller than the preview size for the brush.
With the brush preview size on the left, the dot comes out the size of the dot on the right.
    2. The pencil tool has the same exact problem. Also, when I use the pencil tool, the little cross in the middle of the brush preview becomes offset a little bit down and little bit to the right on every even number. (e.g., cross is centered in 3px brush, offset in 4px brush, centered in 5px brush, offset in 6px brush.
I've reset my brush settings multiple times. As far as I can tell, this isn't an issue of any individual brush setting.
As someone who does a lot of pixel art, this has basically brought my work to a full stop. I would greatly appreciate some help.
    Cheers.

Which version of mac os x are you using?
Look under System>Preferences>Accessibility>Display and see if the Cursor Size is set to something other than Normal
(you want the Cursor Size set to Normal)

  • Sometimes when I open PS CC 2014 the brush previews don't show minimum diameter, the previews all have uniform size

How can I fix this? Sometimes just restarting PS does the trick, but sometimes it doesn't. It makes it difficult to choose brushes, I have to test them first to see what their minimum diameter really is.

I too, have many of the same problems: constantly reminded to "Install" the apps I have already done so (and paid for); Market Assets asks for me to become a paid member (I am); Adobe Bridge is missing from the apps page. I have reinstalled CC several times. Frustrating is the kindest word I can say--I seem to spend more time reading the "help" and discussion boards rather than working on photos. Dear Adobe, wake up and give us some solutions here! I too, have been using Adobe PS for years and UGH! CC is a mess and truly a bad experience for me! I apologize to the user above (RGMeyer) I could not be helpful, rather I am only adding fuel to your frustration.

  • Missing Brush Preview - Caps Lock Not On

    Windows 8.1 64bit Photoshop CC 2014
I can't get my brush to show me my red tinted preview of size and hardness when I hold down ALT and my right mouse button while dragging. I get a blank circle instead. My Caps Lock is not on. Just disappeared one day recently. Tried resetting brushes. No effect?
Is this a preference or a bug?
    Thanks for help.

Use Graphics Processor is greyed out.
It's been so frustrating trying to get a driver for my ATI Radeon 4650. That card specs Open GL 2.0 but programs tell me the Windows WDDM driver isn't good enough. AMD lists WDDM 1 as the latest driver for the device which is like a death spiral.
Any suggestions? Should I hunt for the original driver?
Like I said, this is the same card I used in Windows 7 64 bit with Photoshop CC2014 with no issues.
    Thanks.

  • Why do all my brushes "lag" with the new 2014 upgrade when they perform fine in regular CC?

After upgrading to the new 2014 version of Photoshop today, I've noticed that all of my brushes and painting tools have considerable "lag" time. Switch back over to the previous Photoshop CC and the brushes don't lag at all. I've tinkered with the performance settings in 2014 but nothing affects the lag-time.
    Thoughts?

Some folks are experiencing a slowdown with the latest version of Photoshop, while others aren't.  Adobe engineering is looking into it, and are asking for system details from folks experiencing the problem.
Please see this post for the information requested:
