Brush strokes disappear upon to Flash

I've created an Illustrator CS3 illustration that includes a few different art brush strokes at different line weights.
The brush strokes that appear small (small in size/shape/width) in the file disappear entirely when I import the file onto the stage in Flash. Thicker brush strokes look fine.
I tried expanding the brush strokes (turning them into polygons) before import but they still disappear when brought into Flash.
Does anyone know why this is or if there's a workaround?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Wade,
Thanks for your quick response.
I tried importing it as a symbol into Flash but the small brush strokes still disappeared.
A hint to what might be causing the problem: When I enlarge the artwork in Illustrator by 500%, some of the smaller brush strokes that disappeared earlier suddenly appear successfully after importing to Flash. Not all of them. Enlarging the artwork even further adds a few more brush strokes but some of the tiny ones still drop out.
Can I e-mail you the file directly rather than posting it on the public forum?

  • Adjustment's brush strokes disappearing from adjustment brick.

    Good day,
I am having a problem with the brush strokes from my skin smoothing and levels adjustments disappearing (perhaps others also but I haven't noticed those). I have spent a lot of time brushing in the skin smoothing on many images with great results. But twice now, the skin smoothing (and levels where I used those) adjustment's brush strokes have disappeared from the adjustment brick for all of the images. The brick still is there and still is checked on/active but no adjustment is being applied (since it no longer sees or contains the brush strokes). Somehow the internal link between the brush strokes and the adjustment brick have been broken, or the brush strokes deleted themselves en masse.
Has anybody seen this behavior before? Any ideas on why this is happening and if I can re-connect the brush strokes to the images (assuming the brush strokes are still inside the Aperture database somewhere)?
I just now upgraded to Aperture 3.1.2 from the most recent build (I upgrade regularly). The images are high resolution scanned from transparencies as 16bit tiff files. I use a managed library with no referenced images in the library. I have repaired permissions, repaired the database, and rebuilt the database with no positive results.
    Please help.
    Thanks!
    Nils

Thanks for the suggestion and the quick reply too. I've tried it but it seems to only partially work in that I can stamp the first adjustment into a new version of the image and invert it. However I don't seem to be able to get it to stamp it as 2nd curve adjustment. It seems to overwrite the current curve adjustment, if there is one, or create it if there isn't one.
Thus if there is a way to stamp an existing curve adjustment to a new curve brick that would do the trick. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks again for the help.
    Best regards

  • Brush Overlay Disappears Upon Enlarging

I have CS4 with all updates and XP SP3. My brush overlay circles disapears when trying to increase the size of brush with both the bracket and the brush size slider. I tried to change the cursor shape under Pref's but the result is the same. It still works ok, but is difficult to use when one cannot see the outline. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Phil

You have PS 11.0.1 so that's not it.
Have you tried updating the video card drivers?
What video card do you have?

  • "UNDO" & "BACKWARD" not working for brush strokes?

After making three consecutive brush strokes in my image:
Click on Undo once, History list backs up one step, but last stroke remains on screen. Press Undo again (Redo) and History list returns to last position, last stroke is still on screen. Click Undo again, History list backs up one step, but now brush stroke disappears as it should.
Or, after clicking Undo the first time, the brush stroke will disappear if I apply another stroke or enter a command, e.g. add new layer.
After making three consecutive brush strokes:
Use Backwards command, the History list backs up one step, but brush stroke remains on screen. Use Backwards command a second time, History list backs up another step, the last two brush strokes disappear from screen. Use Backwards a third time, History list backs up another step (now 3 steps total), and the first brush stroke disappears as it should.
These commands work fine when creating three consecutive layers, then undoing or moving backwards.
I am using CS 5.1 for Mac running OS Lion 10.7.4. This problem occurs using either a trackball, Wacom Intuos4 tablet or keyboard shortcuts. Can this be a screen-draw bug in the brush tool? Thanks.

I still don't know what Vertical Sync pertains to relative to OpenGL Settings. Anyone know? Thanks.
Only Adobe knows the exact implementation under the covers, but what it conceptually does is prevent display updates in the middle of a scan.
Keep in mind that what you see on the screen is sent pixel by pixel, row by row, to the monitor - much as it was done in the time of CRT displays and scanning electron beams, even though today most  have LCDs.
Once the last pixel at the bottom has been sent, there is a time called the "vertical sync" time where nothing is sent, before the "scan" starts again from the top.
Setting the "Vertical Sync" option is supposed to limit display updates to only occur only during the vertical sync time.
As Conroy has said, this generally can make a display seem cleaner, as when moving something around you might see part of it moved more than another part without Vertical Sync.  This is called "tearing" (as in "tearing a piece of paper in two and having the two parts not line up").
By definition the Vertical Sync option setting causes a difference in the timing and the sequence of display operations, and that may be working around a bug in the display driver on your system.  It sounds kind of far-fetched, but it happens more than you might think.  Adobe provides all these options to help work around problems.

  • Which version of flash is best for brush strokes?

    Hello,
I am just wondering which version of flash has the best brush strokes. I am using CS6, and it constantly edits my strokes. I heard the older versions of flash have better brush strokes.
I am an animator, and the brush tool is something I constantly use. I might have access to flash CS3 or CS4, and I heard CS3 is pretty close to the macromedia version.
I heard toon boom animate is amazing, but when I tried it, there's no vector lines. Or maybe I am doing something wrong, but my strokes in toon boom animate are pixelated.
I'm basically looking for a version of flash or different software, that has a brush tool that when I draw, it's what I wanted to draw, and doesn't edit my strokes. (By the way, I'm doing frame by frame animation)
    Thanks,
    Porter

If you are planning an upgrade, Flash Professional CC 2014.1 comes with custom brushes, using which you can custom-make a brush that suits your drawing needs. You can read more about it at:

  • Illustrator brush stroke - Character arm rig

I found some fantastic tutorials on how to animated cartoon characters going from Adobe Illustrator to Flash. Very useful.
One tip that was tantalizingly mentioned by not spelled out was how you  can create a character's whole arm as a brush stroke in Illustrator and  then animated it in Flash. See for yourself at the 06:45 marker.
    http://www.youtube.com/user/PeaceLoveAnimation#p/u/0/ywONJam2dSg
Anyone have any idea how you can take this brush stroked arm into Flash and have it be as flexible & keyable?
    Mahalo for sharing!

Still no reply from anyone here.
I continue on in the wilderness alone.
So I experimented with my last theory. Attempted to use the Puppet Pin Tool in After Effects to achieve the flexiblity I'm looking for. FAILED! It essentially creates a rastered video when exported as either FLV or XFL. The XFL version creates an alias halo as well.
Next I attempted to use the very dodgy IK bone tool in Flash. That created all sorts of overlapping compound path problems.
The solution is out there somewhere!
    We've seen it work.
    Still it eludes me.

  • Brush edges disappearing - Not a caps lock issue!

    Hello -
I've upgraded to CS4 and Leopard (10.5.6) within the last month or so (computer is a dual G5). Recently (sometime in the last week) I've started having a problem where my brush edges disappear as soon as I start painting: I click to paint, and the cursor gets replaced with a standard black arrow for the duration of the stroke. When I let up on the mouse button, the arrow is still visible, but as soon as I move the mouse, the normal brush borders come back. My preferences are set correctly to display brush size and this has nothing to do with the caps lock (though I did try other preferences to see if it helped).
The actual painting functions normally, it's just impossible to do any precision work when you can't tell where the stroke is going. This is true of the regular paint brush tool as well as the clone stamp, the healing brush, the blur tool, the eraser, and presumably everything else as well. Hard-edged brushes and well as soft ones, round as well as irregular shapes. I never imported any brushes that might be corrupted - I didn't even add to the brush palette from the included supplemental brush libraries.
Trashing preferences didn't help. I reached the point where I uninstalled the whole application and reinstalled from scratch - no difference, even before I changed any preferences or options.
This is driving me nuts. I know I'm not going crazy, because I've got two Macs with CS4 less than 10 feet away from me (one with identical hardware to my own), and the brushes on them show up as perfectly normal. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    --Bonnie

Sorry for the delay in replying - I was out sick all last week and am only now getting caught up.
It turns out that it seems to have been the mouse driver. I have a Macally Ice Mouse I got with the computer - it's optical with a scroll wheel, but simple and not terribly programmable, so way back when I installed the driver and promptly forgot about it. Macally currently offers a driver for system 10.4-10.5, plus an older one for 10.1-10.3. Mine was older still. Upgrading to the 10.5 driver caused the mouse to go haywire, however, and I wasted a lot of time trying to get it to work. As a last resort before replacing the mouse, I tried the 10.1-10.3 driver, and surprisingly it allows the mouse to function properly without recreating the Photoshop issue. So I'll try to keep the obsolete driver in mind next time I have an inexplicable problem, but in the meantime I'm just happy to be functioning again.
Kudos (and thanks!) to Ann for the idea. Jim, does this help you any?
    Cheers,

  • How to automatically convert brush strokes to symbols?

Is there any way to just draw a stroke and it becomes a movie clip symbol automatically? Like to draw it in "a mode"?
I do character animation in another program then go into Flash CS6 to shade and draw little touch ups over the animation.
With symbols I'm able to change the opacity (which is the alpha) and I can "Multiply" over animation to create simple shading.
I can't use Flash to save my life so honestly this is the simplest thing I can really do. So is there any way to make every brush stroke I draw be automatically a symbol?
I had recently discovered that Flash isn't like Photoshop to where you can set the opacity for layers down and put modes on the layers, so this is the closest I've gotten to mimicking that.
Don't mention object drawing mode, I thought that made my drawings into symbols but it doesn't? :c

you can use jsfl. This should get you started:

  • How can I change a brush stroke to a pencil stroke after I've drawn it?

How can I change a brush stroke to a pencil stroke after I've drawn it? Is this possible?

    h,
As I (mis)understand it, (in effect) just by clicking the Reduce to Basic Appearance button in the Appearance palette (and setting the desired Stroke Weight, if different from 1pt).
The Pencil Tool creates a uniform width path like the Pen Tool, producing Anchor Points like the Artbrush Tool. So when you reduce to basic appearance you will get a path corresponding/identical to the one you would create with the Pencil Tool.

  • Significant delay at beginning of brush strokes on Microsoft Surface Pro 3?

Using Photoshop Elements 10, it takes an abnormally long time for a brush stroke to begin registering. This is a bit difficult to explain, so here is a visual example:
Here is what happens in photoshop elements 10 when I write 'hello':
And here is what happens if I do the same in Gimp:
As you can see, it takes a relatively long time for photoshop to begin accepting a brush stroke, but otherwise renders the line in real time. This causes significant issues when trying to draw, especially as the delay tends to vary wildly.
I have adjusted every setting I can find. I had a similar issue in Windows 7 which was fixed by disabling 'Flicks' commands, but that has had no effect here. I can find no meaningful settings in Elements 10 itself aside from adjusting its memory usage, and adjusting that has been ineffectual.
All help is appreciated - I can't stand to use Gimp another day.

    Hello bblackstock-
Getting the most performance for your buck is important to me as well, but sometimes you need to save a little money and compromise on your technology solutions, so I understand your decision to go with the 64GB Surface Pro 3.  I am sorry to hear that the 64GB did not live up to your expectations when you found that it had the i3 processor and you were no longer able to exchange it.
Per our Return & Exchange promise here, we do allow 15 days for most returns (30 days if you are a My Best Buy Elite member and 45 days if you are an Elite Plus member).  Regrettably, beyond that time frame, we are unable to offer a return or exchange.

  • Enabling GPU in CS6 slows down brush strokes

Hello, I'm currently using Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended and I am experiencing a performance issue with the brush tool when the GPU option is enabled in the performance preferences.
When the GPU option is disabled I am able to draw lines and marks very quickly with all of the default brush tools available.  Even when options such as scattering and dual brush are turned on simultaneously the brush strokes are rendered so quickly on the canvas it feels instantaneous.  This is great for me because I use Photoshop and other programs for digital drawing and painting.
However with the GPU disabled I am unable to use functions such as canvas rotation, flick panning, scrubby zoom and so on - features that I find incredibly useful.  Also at different zoom levels images become highly pixelated and smooth lines appear very jagged.  This obviously makes images very difficult to work with!
As soon as I turn on the GPU option, even at the most basic setting the brush tool renders much slower across the canvas than when it was turned off.  However other operations such as zooming, flick panning, saving etc appear to be very fast.
This is quite confusing (and disappointing) as the brush tool is by far the most important tool I use in Photoshop.  I spend more time painting marks and drawing lines than anything else.  My understanding is that the brush tool should be just as fast to use (if not faster?) when the graphics processor is enabled as when it is disabled.
Here is the setup I am using:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended (64 bit) with latest updates as of 28/11/14
Asus Geforce GTX 560 Direct CU with the latest driver 344.75
    16GB available RAM
Intel i7 Quad Core CPU 3.07 GHz
As my GPU does not appear to be working hard at all when Photoshop is running even with advanced settings turned on, I can only guess that this is a problem with the Nvidia driver or Photoshop itself?  It seems as if the opengl drawing mode is not communicating properly with the Nvidia driver.  That's my guess so far as I'm no tech expert.
I have followed every step of the Photoshop CS6 GPU FAQ multiple times http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html
    But the problem always persists.
I have also followed the advice of others by turning brush spacing up to 10% or higher which does help a little bit but this obviously does not solve the problem!
I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help me to solve this problem - perhaps someone from Adobe can test this on a similar hardware and software setup?  I would be very interested to learn what exactly is going on that is causing the slowdown.
I will also notify Nvidia and see if they are aware of the problem.
    Many thanks,
    Calum

Yes, it sounds like something is wrong with your video card driver.
Until Apple releases a fix, you can keep OpenGL drawing disabled.

  • Brush strokes show in history but not reflected on mask

I have CS4 Extended, Dell Precision M0, WinXP 64bit and 20GB of Ram (overkill I know). This issue happens most often in the 32bit version of PS which I need to use for certain filters. It also happens in the 64bit version but takes longer to manifest itself.
When I apply a filter to a duplicate layer and then add a layer mask OR of I add an adjustment layer and try to fine tune the effect by painting on the mask, the brush strokes show up in history but they have no affect on the mask. It typically happens mostly on very large files such as those from my 5DMKII but also happens if I've added several layers and masks to smaller files.
As a workaround, I can make selections and fill the area on the mask with black and it works. This is time consuming as you can imagine.
The brush problem is only related to masks. I can create a new layer, for instance, and paint on it with black or any color.
I've also had this issue when trying to use the spot removal tool or when cloning. Again...very large files.
I've entered every imaginable query and haven't had any luck! I'm hoping someone here has a clue.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. I sure wish it were that simple but no....that is not the problem. I'm an advanced PS user and know the workings of a computer well. I've been through every imagineable possibility and now am wondering if my video card isn't up to the task of redrawing the brush strokes on huge files. I'm grasping at straws.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Scale a Paint's "path" without distorting the Brush "strokes"?

Anyway to scale a Paint Brush "stroke's" "path" along only one axis without distorting the brush strokes?

Besides having no idea what you're trying to say, I don't think you're considering the problem.
Here's the same issue, solved with regards lines and their strokes distorting:
    scale a line, not it's outline/stroke...
    That's a particularly cool trick.
But I don't see anything similarly possible with Paint Brush based "strokes".
Please, consider that this is what I'm "painting" the line with, so I'd like the circles (dots) to not distort into ovals when scaling the path in only one dimension, see my answer at bottom:
Small Circles (dots) on a path instead of dashes?

I just uprgraded to CS4 from CS3 and there's a problem with the brushes that I can't seem to figure out. I have the brush set to pen pressure, and at the end of each stroke, there's a dot. Like this:

  • Brush strokes very slow to render in PS 2014

Running CC PS 2014 on a MacPro 3.7 GHz with 32Gb RAM
Large brush strokes take many seconds, sometimes tens of seconds, to render.
I bought the MacPro with lots of RAM thinking the problem would be solved.
I've fiddle with the GPU setting with no joy. I set the system on the MacPro via Migration Assistant from my 17" MBPro. The MBPro suffered the same problem despite 16Gb RAM.
The MBPro system was migrated from a 2010 MacPro where I originally encountered the issue.
My feeling is that somehow the issue has originated on the 2010 MacPro and has embedded itself on the current systems by using the Migration Assistant.
The issue is consistent with or without using a Wacom tablet and is obviously exaggerated depending on file size.
My files are consistently minimum 90mb and often go to 1Gb+.
    Appreciate any help.

Two things I would try doing.
Backup to another drive with SuperDuper.
Boot off the clone, see how it runs.
Repair the internal drive with DU and follow up with Disk Warrior.
Fixed things for me when I was getting ready for 10.5.2, but in the end, and because DW 4.1 wasn't yet available to upgrade, did a fresh install when 10.5.2 was available and things have been fine.
Leopard Cache Cleaner or Path Finder 4.8 can both I think delete all those ".DS_" files which might help.
Use to be a phrase "Finder Amnesia" where it was not or was slow to do things like show new files in Finder; not showing folder sizes even when selected (command option I could 'wake it up' somewhat).
Finder is suppose to have been "improved" but it is a huge pile of code.
The only way I find Finder and system to really feel responsive - for me - is to boot from a fast dedicated boot drive, and to have /User/account on another drive or better yet, on a stripped RAID. Not an option for most, and I don't think that should even be necessary but I liked 15K drives and RAID before and addicted to speed I guess.
Outside of faster drives and more memory, not much you can do, but the above cloning (and restore back) does seem to work and worth doing - I do it once or twice a year at least, generally when there is a .x update to OS X.
I would be more inclined to suspect corrupt caches, directory, prefs, DS_Store files.
