Brush Tip Shape

Under Brush Tip Shapes, the "Shape Dynamics" option will not turn off even after I uncheck the option to have it turned on. When I try to paint, "Shape Dynamics" continues to turn back on automatically as soon as I apply the brush tool. How do I stop the "Shape Dynamics" brush tip shape to stay turned off? Is this a glitch or is there another way to turn it off? I am using PsCS6. The second image shows how even when I turn it off, the shape dynamics is still affecting the brush tip.

If you using a drawing tablet, do you have Override Pressure enabled in the tool options bar?

  • Brush Tip Shape option grayed out, can't uncheck it.

The "wet edges" selection in my "brush tip shape" options is grayed out.
I can't de-select it from the left side of the Brush window.  I've tried closing and re-opening Photoshop, and re-booting my computer, but it comes back the same way every time I open the program.
I am running Win 7 on a Dell with lots of memory and a decent video card.
FWIW -- the color model in the file is RGB. I'm aware that Index Color upsets brush tip options, but
that's not been the case here.

Okay, FWIW -- For Whatever It's Worth -- ran Adobe Photoshop Updates today (had to go to the Help > Updates pull-down from the top menu, the Creative Cloud Updater didn't work -- and the option is no longer grayed out/locked in.I
    Frustrating while it lasted.
I use brush-stroke to turn vector paths into lines fairly often, so I'm glad this is finally fixed.

  • Cant Unlock Brush Tip Shape

I am using CS5 (really new at it) and one of my brush tip shapes I need unlocked wont unlock, I click on the "locked lock" which is greyed out, and nothing happens, how can I unlock this?  I am wanting to unlock the smoothing tip.
    Thanks..

Make sure that you have the Spacing checkbox selected in the Brush Tip Shape section.

  • Smudge tool with sampled Brush Tip behaves wrong on 100% strength in CS6

Hey everyone. I'm using CS6 beta on OSX 10.6.8 on Macbook Pro at home and Imac at work.
I used two smudge brushes: one is round and one is sampled from an image. All controls are turned off.
Here's an example on Smudge tool in CS5. Both round and sampled acts the same at 100% strength:
Here are round and sampled Smudge Tools in CS6:
Next: Smudge Tool on 99% Strength (Sampled tip)
    CS5:
    CS6:
As you can see, on 99% Smudge acts the same in CS5 and CS6 and on 100% Smudge in CS6 acts wrong.
    Sergey.

It looks like this is an issue when using 100% Strength and a Sampled tip that has been changed in size from what it was sampled at. If you click the Restore to original size button next to the size readout in the Brush Tip Shape pane of the Brush panel, it does not appear to encounter the problem, and as you noted values other than 100% do not show the problem. Thanks for reporting this.

  • Controlling brush tip settings

    Hi all,
Is it possible to change brush settings "size, roundness, angle, tip shape, shape dynamics, ....." via scripting? .. either it's strait forward or a workaround.
    Thanks

Have a look at this thread....

  • Randomly variable brush dabs(shapes) within a stroke

Every other painting/ photo editing program do have this feature since their very early versions, only Photoshop don't. For example, If I need to paint some rusted spots on a surface I have to keep a gazillion of different brush shapes in a brush pallet and alternate them by hand. While in other programs I can make just a single brush that would paint random things and even with their own color information or being overlayed by any given color.
That's the reason I use GIMP if I need to paint something and Photoshop only for photo adjusting. Come on Adobe, it's time to borrow this feature from Gimp, and make it work even better.

I concur that both features (full-colored Brush Tips and multiple Tips in one Brush Preset) would be beneficial.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 Brush Tip

Im using CC and have installed all the latest updates.  My cap lock is off and my cursor preferences are fine. BUT my brush tips are all messed up today.  I see the brush outline only up to a specific size (different with each brush) but beyond that the outline disappears.  Very annoying.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Or can someone tell me if I'm missing something?
    Thanks

Update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website.

  • The "Normal Brush Tip" cursor is appearing as the "Full Brush Tip" cursor in Photoshop CC.

In spite of resetting all presets, restarting, etc., the Normal Brush Tip cursor is appearing as the Full Brush Tip cursor in Photoshop CC. The Full Brush Tip cursor is working as it should.
    Photoshop CC 14.1.2 x64
    OS X 10.9

Maybe in your system preferences you have the Cursor Size set to something other than Normal.

  • Is there a way to use a hotkey to rotate brush tip angle?

I would like to program my Intuos Touch to be able to rotate the brush tip angle with the touch wheel. But I am unaware if that is an available feature at this time.

There was a discussion in the Scripting Forum about changing some Brush parameters via Script a while back.
If I remember correctly the angle could be changed only for round brush tips, not for custom/sampled brush tips and as this preceded erodible and  bristle tips those would likely also disqualify.
Edit: This means I don’t know a default method to rotate a Brush via Keyboard Shortcut.

  • Normal / Full Size Brush Tips??

I'm confused by these two brush tips. I have CS2 and in the Edit / Preferences / Display & Cursors there is the Normal Brush Tip and the Full Size Brush Tip. The Normal shows that the cursor corresponds to about 100%of the area it draws; the Full Size shows that it is bigger than the area it draws.
    Two questions:-
    1. What is the use for this latter cursor?
    2. Why does it say in the User Guide and the Help that the Normal "corresponds to approximately 50% of the area that the tool will affect" and the Full Size "corresponds to nearly 100% of the area that the tool will affect"?
Mighty puzzling, although it has already been acknowledged that the User Guides are poor. Is this an example or am I missing something?

Mmmm, thanks guys, but I'm afraid I'm still not understanding this.
Andrei - I've tried the soft edged airbrush brushes but I'm still getting the opposite effect to the instructions description.
The Normal brush gives me 100% or over (if held in one position) whereas instructions say it gives 50%
The Full Size brush gives me about 50% coverage whereas the instructions state I should be getting 100%
Ekim - what do you mean by "The normal cursor display cuts off at a 50% threshold"? Is that the Opacity or Flow percentage? I haven't noticed any cut off. Is softness the same as opacity?

  • Only see partial brush tip in CS4

I have the brush tip setting set to Normal.  In CS3 I get a circle representing the brush tip regardless of the brush size.  In CS4, I only get a full circle for very small brush sizes.  Anything bigger and I only get a small upper left segment of the circle.  Is this normal?  It makes it very hard to tell where the lower right of the brush is.  If not normal what suggestions do you have for correcting this?
    Thanks
    Mike

Thanks very much for the reply.  While your suggestion didn't work, it pointed me in the right direction in mentioning the video driver.  Aftrer updating to CS4 11.0.1 and updating the video driver didn't work, I fiddled around with the video card settings and discovered that dropping the hardware accelleration setting down one notch (from max) restored the brush tip to a full circle at all sizes.

  • Adobe Elements 11 Editor: The MARQUEE for the brush tips often disappears!

Adobe Elements 11 Editor: The MARQUEE for the brush tips aften disappears! The only solution that I have found is to shut the computer down then start up again. Is there a fix for this problem without shutting everything down?

If it takes rebooting the computer to fix this temporarily, that suggests the problem is in the system's temporary memory. Most likely the VRAM (the RAM on your video card). I'd suggest making sure you have the most up to date drivers for your card (go to the manufacturer's web site to download them).

  • Size/Angle Jittering and Scattering with a "brush tip" in full color?

Is there any way to emulate the options available for a custom brush tip created from an image, yet still keep all the color information? I know this can't be done with a regular brush tip, but is there another way to pull it off other than copy/paste/rotate/shrink the source image over and over again?
If it makes any difference, I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended.

No. By definition brushes are just opacity masks of a kind. Color information is not retained. What you want to do is much better doen in an animation program by using frame accumulation effects or particles to create trails of images. Another option would be Illustrator's art brushes and symbols, but of course those have limited blending options.

  • Brush tip icons in CS4 and painting w brush tip icons

Why in CS4 Photoshop do none of the brush tip  icons paint to the edges of the icon dashed line. They all paint 4 to 5  (etc.) pixels behind the brush tip line. CS2 & 3 painted dead on the  brush dotted line if one desired. Am I missing how to do this??? in  CS4? I am not painting with the soft brush, but the HARD brush. I expect the brush tip icon to show me exactly what area I will paint. Am I wrong???

Chris, I have looked everywhere in CS4 preferences to adjust the
"bounds" setting for a brush, but cannot find it. I see the sliders for
MASTER DIAMETERS of a brush and the HARDNESS of a brush.
I can't remember ever having to set bounds in previous editions of
PS, or I could be wrong.
To be clear on what is happening, if I create a brush that is 110 pixels
    wide w hardness of 100, shouldn't CS4 paint a solid 110 pixel circle,
exactly within the LIVE brush icon from dotted edge to dotted edge
of the brush icon? My brushes paint behind the dotted lines.
This makes me guess where the brush paint lands on the canvas
    within the dotted brush icon.
Sorry if I am wordy. Just a wierd experience w the brushes in CS4.
