Brush tool automatically jumps when near window edge

Our company is migrating from CS1 to CS3 (finally!). We found a curious issue with the brush tool in Photoshop: in CS1, when you click near the edge of your open file window, it just draws to that point - and stops. That's it. In CS3, when you click near the edge of your open file window, it automatically jumps out / scrolls the window in the direction in which your line is traveling. Is there a way to disable this function?

Have the same problem. Happens with erasure tool as well.
Get near the edge and it jumps/scrolls quickly to the edge of the window/bounding box/canvas. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING and stupid idea.
How does one disable this function or reset the tolerance, whatever? If you do know please reply to this forum.
Thank you.

my brush tool erases pixels when used on layer mask instead of blocking out segments

Is the double frame around the Mask in the Layers panel?
    Are you painting with black?
Is the Mode set to Normal in the Brush Options bar?
If your answer to these 3 questions is Yes, a logical next step would be to reset your Preferences.
    To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.

  • Photoshop CC and 2014 spot healing brush tool causing blue screen on windows 8.1

    Hi,
The problem is when I'm using spot healing brush tool soon as apply it it causing fatal error on my windows. I have all suite up to date.
    please advice.

First thing to do is check you have all the latest device drivers for all your devices and all windows 8 updates. Printer drivers, Display Drivers, Network drivers etc.   It is not possible for an Application program like Photoshop.exe to cause a Blue Screen. However Applications use devices and device drivers are able to do things application programs can not do.

  • Elements 11 - Brush tool not working when using layer mask

My brush tool won't work when using layer mask in PS Elements 11. I also have Elements version 10 installed and there it works fine. If I do the exact same proces in version 11 nothing happens.
Is this a bug or has something changed in the proces?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Make sure you have the mask thumbnail selected - it will be highlighted in blue.

  • Why is my brush tool slicing through when I overlap a stroke?

When I use my brush tool, I go and try to do some cool designs with it, but it wont let me overlap a stroke without "Slicing" through the stroke. Please help:( Here's an example Gyazo - d769be8e1cbaa1bb5e391bd8c5ed52b9.png

We'll need to see the complete object as well as the appearance stack and the brush itself.

  • Is there a way to get my pantech uml290 to automatically reconnect when my windows 7 pc wakes up?

I have my windows 7 pro desktop set to go to sleep every hour (control panel, power options). When it wakes up, the pantech uml290 mifi device is invariably disconnected. I used to just restart the computer, but I found if I go into device manager (right-click my computer, properties, device manager) and click on network and click action, then scan for hardware changes it will reconnect it. But there should be a way to set the device so it reconnects automatically.

Update-PROBLEM FIXED by verizon support. I called my local verizon wireless store, who quickly got me tech support after running through a few things. I didn't know you could disable power management for just one device, but verizon tech support did! So you go into device manager, expand universal serial bus controllers, right click the first "root hub", click the power tab, and see if your device shows up. If it doesn't, continue this process through all the root hubs until it does.
When you find it, select it, and click the power management tab on the far right. Uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Restart the computer to save this setting. Then test it by putting the computer to sleep.
It did take about 30 seconds until the pantech uml 290 was connected, but it connected successfully three times in a row. I'm very happy with both the verizon store and verizon tech support. They were both very helpful and pleasant to talk t, and efficiently resolved the problem. I still think you pay too much for mobile broadband, and am a little put off that the problem existed in the first place, but I'm very happy to have this problem resolved.
One other piece of info. I got was that there is an upgrade, pantech 295 usb modem for only 30.00. So if I have any more problems I'll just try that.  (It's still a wired, not wireless device, which I prefer.)

turned off OpenGL, didn't make a difference

  • Brush Tool and Viewing the Feathering Outline in the Cursor

    Hello,
I am finding that when I use the brush tool, for example when modifying a mask, that the cursor is NOT showing me the feathering outline of the brush. This is starkly different than the view of brushes in ACR and in Lightroom where I can see  the dotted outline of where the feathering begins. I don't know how long this has been the case; maybe always & I am just now noticing.
My question: shouldn't the feathering outline of the brushes show up in the cursor when I am working on a layer or a mask; or is this not possible? If it is possible, how does one alter preferences or whatever so that the feathering outline WILL show up when working directly on a layer or mask??
I am using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom in the Adobe CC Photography plan.
Also, if you have good tutorials to on brushes to recommend, I am interested in trying out some that might help me with brushes overall. I understand the basics but I have difficulty controlling brush parameters.
    Regards,
    Randy

    Benjamin,
Thanks. I was just trying that out & it is helpful to hear that I am choosing the best option for my purposes. I would like it better if it looked the same as the brushes and feathering in ACR and Lightroom. At least with this 'full brush size' option in the preferences I can now better predict the full area that the brush will affect, even the feathering. Without it, I find I am always hitting non-target areas with feathered modifications that I don't want.

  • Flash CC Brush Tool abruptly stops drawing when stage size is small

When using the Brush Tool, I'm having an issue that the stroke I'm drawing will abrupty cut off at a certain point on the screen (roughly halfway down the monitor, it doesn't relate to the canvas position or any coordinates).  This seems to happen when I have the Stage size set to a smaller size (64 x 64 pixels for example).  I've been able to reproduce the same behavior on multiple files, and on both a Windows 8.1 machine and a Windows 7 machine, both using the up-to-date version of Flash CC.  Both machines are dual monitor, I'm not sure if that plays a factor in this.
    To reproduce:
    1.  Create a new FLA in Flash CC and set the stage size to 64 x 64 pixels.
    2.  Use the Brush Tool and attempt to draw from the top to the bottom of the screen (zoom level and position on the canvas does not matter, as long as your cursor is going from near the top of your monitor to the bottom of your monitor).
    3.  The stroke will abruptly cut off mid-drawing at a certain point on the screen, roughly half-way down.  You can continue to draw and move upwards and it will reappear when it crosses this barrier again.
This does not happen if the stage size is set to something larger (640 x 480 for example).  This also does happen in Flash CS5 or CS6, and have only noticed this happening in Flash CC.
This is happening using the mouse for drawing, and also happened when I tested it on a different PC with a Wacom tablet attached.
Is this happening for others as well, and is there any fix for this behavior?  (aside from always using a large stage size)

  • Disturbance and Sharp edges when using brush tool.

    Following are the specs:
    Photoshop Version     : CS5 Trial, CS4 extended
    OS                            : Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits.
    RAM                         : 4 GB DDR3 (3 GB Usable)
    Video Card                : XFX GeForce GT 240 1GB DDR5
Free Disk Space        : 14 GB Free in C:/ Drive (Primary storage drive for cache levels)
Monitor                     : Samsung Myst Eco 20 inch widescreen LCD.
Well there is no error in my photoshop except when i use the brush tool the brushing looks like its full of dust speckles. Like i am using scatter. When i zoom in it looks weirder. I thought it will be my monitor (i raised a discussion about calibaration of my monitor 3 or 4 months ago when i bought it), but when i export it as .png or .jpeg the image looks perfect i.e. without any scatter. While in Photoshop it looks like i am brushing using some kind of amoeba. I reinstalled cs4 countless times but to no avail. Checked all my brush settings, everything's normal. I downloaded CS5 Trial and checked in it and the photoshop has the same problem. Here are the Print Screen and Exported JPEG's from both CS4 and CS5. And i just wanted to point out that the brush tool works in all other software's so here is Corel Painter PRT SCR too.: What can be causing such weird reactions? I tried enabling/disabling OpenGL rendering, changed cache directories, reduced history/increased history. I messed with everything the performance tab has to offer in preferences, but to no avail. Please Help me, i need to paint lots of thing and with brushes looking like this, it doesnt help at all.
    CS5 PRT_SCR
    CS5 exported PNG
    CS4 PRT_SCR
    CS4 exported PNG
    Corel Painter PRT_SCR

Wow, I would have bet money that would have made a difference.  You might want to add the monitor profile you had back in.
The only other thing I can imagine is that somehow your display is set to an oddball color depth...
    Check this:
Right-click on the desktop and choose Screen Resolution.
In the Screen Resolution dialog, click the Advanced Settings link.
In the monitor properties dialog that comes up, in the Adapter tab click the [ List All Modes ]  button.
Is the current (highlighted) mode a True Color mode?
Beyond this I can't begin to imagine what could be up with your display.
Do you see the same kind of graininess in other aspects of the Photoshop display - for example gradients rendered with the Gradient tool?

  • PSE 9 crashes when I use the Spot Healing Brush tool

When I use the Spot Healing Brush tool PSE9 crashs completly. Is it a bug? In the older version 8 I had no problem.
I use WIN XP SP2, Intel Pentium 4, 3 Ghz, GPU: NVIDIA Geforce FX 5700, DirectX 9.0c 4.09.00.0904.
I tried it also on another PC with WIN7 and it caused the same problem.
    Thanks for any adivse

I know this post doesn't really help you guys, but I'm also using PSE9 on a Win7 Intel Quad Core Dell computer and the spot healing brush works fine. I only offer this post to indicate that it apparently is not a universal bug in PSE9. Perhaps an Adobe expert can jump in here and help. I can only offer that in Preferences I do have the RAM dialed up to 80%, but I don't think this is related to your problem.

  • Brush Tools lagging when Graphics Processor enabled

    Hi,
I've recently installed Photoshop CC and am experiencing a problematic lag when using the brush tool.
This occurs either when using a mouse, or a tablet device and stylus.
I'm running a brand new laptop. It has a Quad-core I7-4700MQ, 32 gb RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 780m dedicated graphics card, with Windows 7 64 bit professional.
It also has an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 card, but PS CC is set to use the dedicated 'High Performance' card.
When the graphics processor is enabled in the performance menu, either at basic, normal or advanced, the brush tool is visibly slow.
However when the graphics processor is disabled, the brushes work perfectly.
I've allocated 80% Ram usage to Ps, as well as increased cache tile size to 1028k. I'm using my primary drive as a scratch disk, but being a solid state I didn't think this would cause a problem.
Other software such as Flash CC seems to be working fine.
For the work I'm doing in PS I need rotate canvas function, enhanced zoom etc working properly.
Are the 700 series NVIDIA graphics cards compatible with PS CC? Seeing as its one of their latest, I wouldn't have expected any problems.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Blob Brush Tool and Selecting Lines when Hitting Ctrl Z

I've done searches for this answer, but I'm afraid it's too specific.  Basically, in Windows 7's Illustrator holding the ctrl key is a shortcut to the selection tool when someone is using the blob brush tool. (among others as well)  This means that if my cursor is ever hovering over a line when I hit undo (ctrl+z) it also selects the line because I've hit the ctrl key.  That means after the initial undo, I have to also move my cursor to another spot where there is no line and hit the control key again to deselect the line that became highlighted when I hit ctrl+z.
I know it's not a big deal, but having to move your cursor every time you want to undo a mistake is really annoying.  Selecting the shape doesn't effect my drawing, but I'd rather not have a set of lines highlighted while I'm drawing.
Is there a way I can stop Illustrator from selecting line segments when holding the control key?

I'm having trouble understanding exactly what you mean. Floating the cursor over a line and then pressing Ctrl doesn't select the line -- it just temporarily changes the cursor to the last selection tool used. Nothing gets selected when you let go of the Ctrl-Z. However, read on:
Regardless of where the cursor is, pressing Ctrl-Z just undoes the last operation. This could, of course, result in something being re-selected as a consequence of the UnDo. Are you perhaps pressing the left mouse button while pressing Ctrl-Z?
Sorry if this is no help at all . . .
    Allen
