Brush tool missing mode

When trying to use the brush tool in PSE10 the "normal" mode is not listed in the drop down menu
What must be done to locate it ?

  • Brush tool color mode vs layer color mode

When  using the brush tool what is the difference between using
the brush in color mode on a normal layer vs using
the brush in normal mode on a color mode layer?

Tools do not have dynamic Blend modes, Fill or Opacity adjustment settings as the Layers do. You can set opacity on a tool, but once you make that stroke, it stays at that setting. You can always change the blend mode, opacity or fill on a layer. That's just one difference I know about.
Here's a great reference on Blending modes.

  • Brush tool missing

I am trying out CS6 on a Mac. There is no brush tool in my menu, only pencil tool and art history brush! I would like to try out the brushes in particular before I buy. I thought that one has access to all the features during the trial? Please help!

A lot of the tools are grouped with other tools in the toolbox.
For example to get the Brush Tool, hold down on the pencil tool icon to reveal the hidden tools.
You can tell if there are hidden tools by the really small triangle in the lower right of most of the tool icons in the toolbox.
Where most of the tools are in cs6, since this is a screenshot from cs5:

  • Missing history brush tool

am I missing something or is the history brush tool missing from Elements 8?

A commom workaround is to make a snapshot of your work from which you can go back to pullout earlier elements. This can be done by exploiting the varios advantages of layers. Simply create a new layer that contains a merged copy of your layers. Detailed steps are :
    1. Click on the top most layer of your project
    2. Chosse Select> All
    3. Choose Edit>Copy Merged
    4. Choose Layer>New>Layer
    5. Goto Edit>Paste
    6. Rename this layer "History 1"
    7. Turm off visibilty to this "History 1" layer until you need to come back to it for some reason.

Eraser tool in Photoshop CS4 acts as if it is transparent when on brush or pencil mode. Block acts like its not transparent at all but there are no options for opacity, flow or brush size. Whats wrong and how to I make the brush and pencil eraser erase completely without having to go over it multiple times?
It started randomly about two weeks ago and I thought it was a glitch that would just go away. But now I am getting sick of using only the block eraser on one size. Help?

The easiest thing to start with is to reset the Eraser Tool.
Right click on the Eraser icon in the tool options bar and then click on Reset Tool.

  • Problem with CS4 brush tool "paint inside mode"

When I use the Flash CS4 brush tool in "Paint Inside" mode it erases part of the strokes around shapes. For rectangles it erases the stroke on the top and left hand side where the brush head crosses it, though it never seems to affect the other sides. The effect is less consistant with ovals, but it breaks the strokes at some points. I am using Flash CS4 version 10.0.2 on Windows XP, and I have checked for program updates through the Help menu. Here are two examples:
If I understand right, the brush tool shouldn't be changing the stroke anywhere in this mode. I would be grateful for any help.

This has existed for a very long time in Flash, at least back to version 8. I'm not too sure, but it certainly only affects two out of the four sides of a square. There is a bug on this, so I will send it back for review.

  • SURVEY: Blend mode options in Brush tool?

This is a survey question for users of all versions of Fireworks. In Fireworks 8, I've noticed a difference in the Brush tool properties depending on whether the selection is an object or a mask—in particular, the Blend mode options do NOT appear in the Properties inspector when a bitmap mask is selected, *unless* the object was selected first, as well as the Brush tool.
Please try the following, and let me know the results:
Starting with the Pointer tool, select a bitmap mask (by selecting its thumbnail in the Layers panel) and then choose the Brush tool.
Does the Blend mode menu appear in the Properties inspector?
Now, with the Brush tool still active, select the thumbnail of the object being masked.
Does the Blend mode menu appear in the Properties inspector?
Now select the Pointer tool, and then re-select the Brush tool.
Does the Blend mode menu appear in the Properties inspector?
Finally, re-select the mask, with the Brush tool still active.
Does the Blend mode menu appear in the Properties inspector?
In Fireworks 8 (on Mac OS 10.6.8), the answers to the above questions are, "No, no, yes, yes." So it is possible to use Blend mode options with the Brush tool when working with a bitmap mask, but it's a convoluted process to get those options to appear. I'm interested in whether later versions of Fireworks exhibit the same behavior. Anyone with a different version, please chime in.
UPDATE: I'd still like to hear from users of Fireworks CS3, CS4, CS5, and CS5.5 on this question! Please take a moment to help. All it takes is a Fireworks document with a bitmap object and a (non-vector) mask. Be sure to indicate what version of Fireworks you're using.

Using Fireworks CS5 on Win 7 same results:
    1. No
    2. No
    3. Yes
    4. Yes, it even seems to work as expected with the Multiply blendmode
Maybe blendmodes are simply disabled because they aren't that useful on a mask bitmap?

  • Hi, My brush tool is missing from the icons on photoshop 10, I only have Smart Brush Tool

    Hi,
My Brush Tool is missing from the icons on Photoshop 10, I only have the Smart Tool Brush. Where has it gone?

Many of the tools have multiple choices - simply right-click on an icon or for the brush tool keep pressing the letter B to tab through the choices.

For the sake of clarity and to save people time, Todd is asking about the behaviour of the Patch tool when using it to repair the area next to the young lad's head.  Todd gets a blurred dark tone pretty much regardless of the options he uses.
IMO that's what I would expect to happen because of the close proximity of the other image elements i.e. the lad's neck and the strong lines of his shirt.  I would not choose to use the Patch tool in this situation.  Content Aware Fill makes a better stab at it.

  • Soft Edge Eraser Tool Missing

    Hi All
I am currently running Photoshop CS5.5 64-bit and all of a sudden my soft edged eraser brush is missing.
I have tried the 'reset brushes' option, which did not resolve the issue. I copied the the .abr files from another computer to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (64 Bit)\Presets\Brushes which also did not resolve the issue. Anyone have any other suggestions, before I try an uninstall/reinstall?

    Hi,
It sounds like you have the Mode for the Eraser Tool set to Pencil instead of Brush.

  • Problem using Brush tool with layer mask in Photoshop CC.

Using Photoshop CC, working on a layer mask.  Using the Brush tool to paint white to show the effect works like normal.  Painting black has no effect.  Just started doing this in the last two days.

Check you Brush blending mode setting in the tools option bar.

  • No Adjustment Brush Tool in Camera Raw 5.2

Hi, I'm new here. After watching a Gavin Hoey tutorial on HDR editing, I decided to give it a try. My pc came with PSE 7.0 pre-installed (it's version 7.0.1 and the camera raw is version 5.2.0.65) When I drag a RAW image into the edit window of PSE, it opens in a camera raw 5.2 window. On the Hoey tutorial, the window has an adjustment brush in the top toolbar, but on mine, there is no such tool. Is this normal, or can I download an update to fix this? I'm guessing PSE is a "diluted" version of PSand that's why the adjustment brush is missing.

The tutorial was undoubtedly using Camera Raw hosted by the full version of Photoshop.
Camera Raw in Photoshop Elements is emasculated by design, even though the Camera Raw plug-in is exactly the same one used by the full version of Photoshop.  There's only a limited subset of the features and tabs offered by Camera Raw when hosted by Elements.
I don't remember at what stage the Adjustment Tool was added, so you should try updating Camera Raw at least to version 5.7, or higher if your version of Elements supports a higher version.
In my opinion, Photoshop Elements is overpriced by about $80.

  • How to create a 'Previous History' brush tool along with content aware

Truly did not know how to create a good title here.
When you use the 'Content Aware' tool and move subject 'A' to point B what happens is that A now sits on top of B which in turn means part of the image within B may be missing and you may still want it there where it was and where it should be. You could use the 'history brush' tool to brush away part of the new insert and erase what is there to reveveal what was there. How do you do the same thing to image A which now sits on B (to reveal what was there on A originally). What I mean is this. I moved a person from point A to point B. but parts of this person are missing (his ear, his knee, his shoe) so how do I get those parts back (in the new location)?
The history brush tool appears to be erasing by subtracting, what I would like to do in this case of course is not subtract but add or 're-add'.
    Thank you

    Hello,
here's a possible solution, before using content aware, take a snapshot of A and B, then use it as your history brush source whenever you need to 're-add':
please post back if you have any questions

  • Problem using PSE9 Brush Tool!

I am experiencing a problem using the PSE9 Brush Tool. The color does produced by the brush not match the color of the sample picked by the Eyedropper Tool, Painting near the area where the sample was picked-up results in a much darker color.

Check the blend modes for the brush tool in the tool options bar.
Also if your painting on a blank layer check the blend modes in the layers panel.
Either way try the Normal mode.

  • In photoshop CS5, Brush tool doesn't work on an adjustment layer

In photoshop CS5, Brush tool doesn't work on an adjustment layer

I Created an adjustment (Curves) layer and did the curves adjustment.  Then I did an Edit Fill (Normal Mode, 100% Opacity and Use: Black).
I then try to use the brush tool, but it doesn't work.  I've done this hundreds of times before and suddenly it's not working.  Rebooted the system, but that didn't help.
I know how to do a screen shot, but it doesn't paste onto this screen.  How do I get that to you?
    thanks for your help
