Brushes Limit?

Hi - Is there a certain number of brushes one should install on one machine before it affects performance?

I didn't know there was a limit to the number of brushes in PS. How many brushes do you have?
Try unloading and reloading brushes again.

    I was just added lots of brushes a friend gave me then photoshop told me there was a limit on that amount of brushes I could have. Is there a way to change this?

  • Increase Brush size limit.

    Camera sensor sizes are growing and now we have to deal with 7000+ pixel images, but the brush size doesn't go over 2500pix which makes it hard to produce smooth results when dealing with large areas. Easy to implement I guess.

    i was just looking for the solution to this issue.... and came to this thread, i think there isnt any solution to it yet.
    i hope Adobe will increase the brush size limit to like ..... 5000px? or 10k px would be great for working on large banners or posters.

  • How to get Brushes to go lower then 3 Pixels

    In the retouch for brushes.
    The radius bar only goes to 3.
    Is that the lowest limit ?
    In working in PSE it can go to one (1)
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Apparently that is that the lowest limit. Just make PSE you external editor and jump over to it when you need to go that fine. Surely you won't need to on every image. That's what external editors are for: when you need to do something that Aperture doesn't do.

  • Adjustment brush not working LR 5

    Why isn't my adjustment brush working when it was working before. New LR version 5...had less than one month

    Have you made any changes to your computer or updated the OS?
    What exactly is happening when you click on the brush tool icon or press the K key to activate it?
    If you press the O key to display the overlay can you see if the brush tool is making a mask when you paint on the photo?
    Check that you have not set the brush to Erase ; click B for the standard brush or A for a brush with auto-mask edges.
    Make sure flow and density is set to 100 unless you wish to gradually build up the effect (flow) or Place a limit on the effect (density)

  • Healing Brush Outline

    Just a quick question.  Am currently using Photoshop 7, and don't recall if it's possible to change the color of the healing brush outline.  When I use the healing brush, the outline of the brush size is a light blue color.  I'd be able to see it much better if it were, say, bright red or lime green.  Is it possible to change the color of the outline?  Changing the cursor to precise, etc, doesn't help, as it's still that annoyingly difficult to see light blue color.  Suggestions?

    There is no way to alter the color of the cursor on a PC. It will change a bit, depending on the background over which it's used, but all that you can directly affect is the "look" of how the cursor displays.
    If you are loosing it, you can hit Ctrl to help locate it, or hit the Spacebar and look for the "hand."
    Good luck,

  • BRUSH TOOL NOT SMOOTH

    I have an issue with my Cintiq not drawing smoothly in Flash. I need to sketch incredibly fast and loose. Flash used to work just fine but now it suddenly began drawing really crummy. I posted some examples of flash as well as Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom Animate Pro which is another vector graphics tool. I thought the vector graphics may be the issue but that app seems to handle the drawing excellently (now if only it did the other things Flash can do). Here's some examples of how they're looking. It may be hard to tell in these already loose sketches but the performance drop is really a big difference in responsiveness between Flash vs the other apps here:
    IMAGE EXAMPLE
    http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l613/jedoralive/LINEUP.jpg
    SYSTEM SPECS
    ATI Radeon HD 4870
    2x3 Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon
    8GB RAM
    4TB HD
    Does anyone know why my cintiq is causing flash to draw so poorly? Occasionally photoshop will also do the same 'crumbly edges' thing? Any idea how to fix it?

    Well, the only problem with that is I will lose the interface of Flash which is why I don't use the others to begin with. In AFX you would have to constantly pop back and forth between photoshop and AFX to draw. TOTALLY counter-intuitive. Why go back and forth between Photoshop and AFX, when you can do both, fast and immediately in Flash? Oh - because Flash doesn't actually draw WELL - it just draws. Or if you draw slow enough, and then run some filters you might get the drawing to look better or at least in the ballpark. Why would I settle for Fish-sticks when I ordered Fish Taco's?
    What flash does so great is to allow you to:
    - Draw directly into the app realtime.
    - Play and step through timelines and symbols realtime.
    - Work directly in and out of many symbols/compositions at once allowing you to scale things in time and edit all realtime on the fly (VS lugging things back and forth between apps AND also often waiting for rendering.)
    - No limit to the number of nested symbols and timelines.
    I think from a purely technical standpoint it makes sense, but from a practical, user point of view who's been using it heavily and extensively since the Macromedia days, there's severe flaws with Flash still. The Technology already exists in other similar applications so I'm hoping either COMPETITORS, or ADOBE FLASH fill in the blanks where the other side fails to so there's finally an app that does everything in one package. Right now it's a very Pro's vs Con's situation where Flash keeps winning out by a small margin.
    This isn't a small detail - it's half the reason I use a program. I don't care how great a car is. If the steering wheel is made of Tofu, or the seats are made from old fish, I'm not buying it. I'm sure sitting and using it for a few hours wouldn't make anyone notice the difference much, but when you're talking about hundreds of hours and thousands upon thousands of sketches per month, it really adds up. The things flash does RIGHT, really help take a load off of that burden which is why I end up using it - but then the things it's NOT doing well - If fixed - would really serve to make it an even faster, better, more useful tool. It's extra frustrating to know there are other apps out there doing it, and that Adobe hasn't touched the brush tool since they bought the rights from Macromedia. It's just sat there for the most part. Maybe Ten years ago it was a breakthrough, but so was texting. Currently it's a hobbyist level tool at best.
    If the argument is "That's not really why people use Flash though".
    A) Why have it at all then?
    B) No, and they never will if you don't fix it. There's a whole market of people you're turning off with this one shoddy tool.
    Fussy? High Standards? Absolutely. I'm using it for more than art to put on Mom's fridge, and if the box says professional, that's what I expect. I've been patient for 10 years, defending Flash's other points to my workplace hoping they'll eventually fix it. Time's up.

  • Aperture 3.6: Disappearing Brush Cursor

    I experience the following issue with brushes in Aperture:
    In full-screen mode the brush only gets bigger to a certain amount, than does not visibly get bigger any more. If I try to paint with it, I can only see the standard mouse-pointer. The brush though, paints in the selected size. This is of course out of control, cause I can't really see what I am doing there. The brush works fine to a rather small brush size.
    My config:
    iMac 5K, AMD Radeon R9 M295X, OS X Yosemite 10.10, Aperture 3.6
    Any help is appreciated.
    Rainer

    Hi,
    the problem is solved - or maybe it disappeared just so. I made two changes to my machine:
    First I got rid of x-rite profiling software and the running services wich came w/ the calibration software. I just did this, because the services caused lots of dumps and console messages.
    Then I changed the preview size in Aperture preferences to "don't limit"; I had them limited to "half-size". I just guessed that using my library from a machine with a much bigger resolution (imac 5K) could have anything to do w/ my problem.
    I did NOT generate new previews or had my originals newly developed. At least I did not tell Aperture to do so.
    I do not know if all of the above has anything todo with the brush-cursor in Aperture, but it simply works now. Brushes size from zero to 200 and back flawlessly.
    Cheers,
    Rainer

  • "UNDO" & "BACKWARD" not working for brush strokes?

    After making three consecutive brush strokes in my image:
    Click on Undo once, History list backs up one step, but last stroke remains on screen. Press Undo again (Redo) and History list returns to last position, last stroke is still on screen. Click Undo again, History list backs up one step, but now brush stroke disappears as it should.
    Or, after clicking Undo the first time, the brush stroke will disappear if I apply another stroke or enter a command, e.g. add new layer.
    After making three consecutive brush strokes:
    Use Backwards command, the History list backs up one step, but brush stroke remains on screen. Use Backwards command a second time, History list backs up another step, the last two brush strokes disappear from screen. Use Backwards a third time, History list backs up another step (now 3 steps total), and the first brush stroke disappears as it should.
    These commands work fine when creating three consecutive layers, then undoing or moving backwards.
    I am using CS 5.1 for Mac running OS Lion 10.7.4. This problem occurs using either a trackball, Wacom Intuos4 tablet or keyboard shortcuts. Can this be a screen-draw bug in the brush tool? Thanks.

    I still don't know what Vertical Sync pertains to relative to OpenGL Settings. Anyone know? Thanks.
    Only Adobe knows the exact implementation under the covers, but what it conceptually does is prevent display updates in the middle of a scan.
    Keep in mind that what you see on the screen is sent pixel by pixel, row by row, to the monitor - much as it was done in the time of CRT displays and scanning electron beams, even though today most  have LCDs.
    Once the last pixel at the bottom has been sent, there is a time called the "vertical sync" time where nothing is sent, before the "scan" starts again from the top.
    Setting the "Vertical Sync" option is supposed to limit display updates to only occur only during the vertical sync time.
    As Conroy has said, this generally can make a display seem cleaner, as when moving something around you might see part of it moved more than another part without Vertical Sync.  This is called "tearing" (as in "tearing a piece of paper in two and having the two parts not line up").
    By definition the Vertical Sync option setting causes a difference in the timing and the sequence of display operations, and that may be working around a bug in the display driver on your system.  It sounds kind of far-fetched, but it happens more than you might think.  Adobe provides all these options to help work around problems.

  • Why does Photoshop CC running slow when using Mixer brush tool

    Why does Photoshop CC and Photoshop C6 running SOOO slowly when using Mixer brush tool??
    Only to create one stroke it takes several seconds.
    I have to wait a long time to do next stroke. I can't work with this. How do I fix this??
    I have a new computer, a Mac Book Pro with 16 GB ram, so I have plenty of ram.

    You really have to keep your brush size small with the Mixer Brush tool.  And that necessitates keeping your canvas failry small as well.
    Back a few years ago I did a whole painting with the Mixer Brush once and some of the bristle brushes - just to see if I could - and I found I had to really limit the brush size (e.g., to 50 to 75) in order to get enough responsiveness to keep painting.  In that case my canvas was 4096 x 5120.  It's not impossible to get a good, professional result, but you have to be careful about sizing things right.

    You will have noticed in the above code that DW CS 5.5 works with CSS styles and so you need to be able to manipulate styles effectively to get the best results.
    In your code you have: Style24, style42, style61, style25, style21.  Now this is definitnitely a recipe for disaster because of so many styles in such a short code.
    To change the color, you need to go to these styles and enter the code manually.  to change color of the text, the code is:
    color: red;  /* or enter any hexadecimal code of your chose like #ffffff */
    The summary of the necessary codes would like this:
    table {
        background-color: lime;
        color: fuchsia;
    td {
        background-color: blue;
        color: yellow;
    tr {
        background-color: red;
        color: white;
    I hope you ge the idea.

  • Brush just failed to display in CS5

    When any of the brush sizes reaches a certain limit the edges failed to display and you can't see the complete circle of the brush. This occurred after I checked to allow Open GL Drawing in the preferences but after I unchecked it the problem persisted. I updated my driver (NVidia GForce 6800) to no avail. The brushes have been displaying fine for the last year with the same driver. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    That sounds like an old nVidia display driver bug.
    Is there any possibility you took a Windows Update or something that ''updated'' your display driver to an older WHQL version?
    Perhaps completely removing the driver and getting the very latest one from nVidia.com might be in order.

  • Adjustment Brush: Flow and Feather

    Not so much a question, as an observation. Maybe it will help somebody.
    I'm not a big user of the Adjustment Brush. I tend to use it occasionally for applying Clarity, Highlight Recovery, or applying/removing Sharpening.
    I'd never much paid attention to the Flow and Density settings before today, and I certainly never really understood the Flow setting. The Feather setting never seemed to work as expected too. So, I just spent 10 minutes with a 50% grey image and a -2-stop brush, getting to the bottom of it all.
    Density is the easiest setting to understand: it's like a percentage limit on effect opacity. So 100 means that your brush can deliver 100% of your chosen settings.
    Flow was a little tricker to fathom. I expected Flow to control how fast the "paint" comes off the brush. But, no matter how slowly I move the brush, it doesn't come out any thicker. Maybe Flow is the wrong word. I worked out that you had to paint the same spot several times with a low Flow setting to get full Density. It's like Single Pass Density.
    Feather is where I came unstuck. Setting any more than 0 give you a two-circle brush cursor. To me, this suggests that the inner circle is solid, the outer circle is clear, and inbetween is a gradient curve. In reality, the brush paints well outside the outer circle (increasing with Feather amount), and isn't solid at the inner circle either. This explains why I've always gone over the edge with a feathered brush, and why it always looks bloody awful when painting an exposure adjustment. Thank goodness the guys added Highlights to the brush settings.

    Rob Cole wrote:
    To be clear (and I think this is what you were saying too): Flow controls amount of paint per unit of time, regardless of brush movement speed..., for example:
    flow = 100 -> you'll get full amount of paint instantly, that amount determined by density.
    flow = 0 -> there will be zero paint coming out, so not a useful setting.
    flow = 50 -> somewhere in between...
    No, that's just it: it's not what I was saying. It is what I expected, but not what I found. Time has nothing to do with it. You can take as long as you like, and no more paint comes off the brush. That was the point I was making, and why I said I thought that "flow" was the wrong word. To me, flow is time-related (volume per second).
    'Flow' seems to work by rationing the amount of paint in each stroke. It is only built up by extra strokes.

  • Size limit for synchronizing Photoshop CC

    When I try to synchronize photoshop settings using creative cloud I get the error cannot connect to creative cloud. The total size of the synchronizing data is over 100 MB (approx 110 MB) and most data are brushes. However when I remove all added brushes synchronizing does work without any problems.
    Is there a limit for the data file size when I try to synchronize my photoshop CC presets ?

  • Eye Color adjustment brush question

    On the adjustment brush when I am using it to change eye color it doesn't change the color at all. I want to change it completely not just lighten it or give it a different tint or hue.
    I go to the adjustment brush, turn the saturation all the way down, and then select a color that stands out so that I will be able to tell what I am painting. When I select the color it shows it in the small window in the bottom right side of the adjustment brush "window" thing. The problem is that when I paint it, it doesn't show up at all, it barely even makes a difference no matter which color I select. How do I make it change drastically and completely? Did I accidentally tamper with the settings?
    Also, when I use the "plus" and "minus" keys on the keyboard it changes clarity instead of exposure, How do I change it back to exposure?
    Thanks for your time. - IZ

    Check your Flow setting on the brush (the amount per stroke)
    and your Density setting (the limit to how much of your effect (color in your case) settings. If either are very low (under 30 for example) you will have a tough time bulding up paint.
