BSO Agg Times Drastically Increases After Increasing CPU

Hello All,
I will make a long story short and then explain more if you guys need more information.
We are running 11.1.1.3 64-bit Essbase with 1 Planning application.
We were running load tests with 150 users, where users are running an Aggregation Business Rule. The Business Rule would run in about 7 seconds until all 150 users were in the system. Once the users were loaded the Agg Times increased to about a minute and eventually were timing out. At this point, the Essbase server had 16GB RAM and 4CPU, and the CPU's were pegging at 100%.
We increased CPU count to 8, and now we can not get the Agg to run in less than two minutes. We did not change any of the Config settings, but could not get back to the original performance.
We then tried tweaking the CFG, such as enabling CALCPARALLEL 7, but this seems to have no affect.
This is a very small BSO app at this point,.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Nick

What are the test parameters for your 150 users e.g. how frequently does a given "user" perform an action? How are these actions unique per user e.g. is each user user a specific entity, department, or other member in their rule? Please provide as much detail as you can about how the users is simulated and what calculations are running.
Testing when performed improperly or simulating a behavior that makes no sense e.g. running an aggregation that is on the same exact data set will run very poorly. For example Essbase has a lock timeout and if you run say the exact same calculation which has an aggregation that takes 20 seconds and you run that 3 times with a 2 second lag between the executions that locking behavior will kick in and all three calculations which are competing for the same blocks will now run in a very very much slower time frame.

  • Render time has INCREASED!

I'm running FCP 6.0.4 on a Quad 3GHZ Mac Pro with 8GB of RAM. I am working with Sony XDCAM HD 1080i (35MBS, VBR) footage.
I edit a 28:30 local TV program and have produced over 20 episodes so far. Its a fairly simple format and most of the shows are relatively the same, so I had grown accustomed to consistent render times. The main element that needs rendering on every show is a small animated logo in the lower right frame. It is on-screen for 95% of the program. For the first 20 episodes, even with some select clips having multiple layers of graphics and color effects, to render the entire show, it would take 2-4 hours at the most. Again, these render times were consistent for the first 20 shows or so.
However, for the last few shows, I am experiencing extremely long render times for the same format I've been working with for over a year. It now takes 8-12 hours to render the entire show. I have four internal 750GB hard drives. I do not store any footage on the OS drive and I always make sure I have more than 30% free space on my source disk.
Would anyone have any idea why render times would have drastically increased?? Was there a recent
software update or something that may have caused this, either with Leopard or FCS?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Run, don't walk, to the Aja site and download a copy of their Kona System Test utility. It's PowerPC, which is a little annoying because it takes a long time to launch. But it's a great tool to test disk I/O performance. (Also, despite the name it is not in any way related to the various Kona I/O boards. I haven't received by LHe yet, and I've been using the System Test tool for ages to keep an eye on my framestore bandwidth.)
For comparison's sake, I get on the order of 160 MB/s reads and writes on my framestore. It's a very humble configuration, just two internal 750 GB SATA drives striped using Disk Utility. If you're getting less than that, something ain't right.
How exactly are you setting up your projects? Are your timelines using the XDCAM compressor, or are you using ProRes? If you're using an XDCAM timeline, do you have ProRes rendering turned on? Do you send your finished shows back out to XDCAM, or do you go out in some other format? I ask this part because it's possible — though since you've been doing these shows for a while you almost certainly already know this — that you don't actually need to stay in the XDCAM format at all, unless you're going back out to XDCAM media. If you're laying off to some other mastering format, or going out with a Quicktime master, you can skip rendering back to XDCAM entirely, which may save you hours and hours.

To overcome the above error, many forums have suggested me to increase the time out which is under Farm level settings. But if time out gets increased, performance impacts as well.
So please suggest me to overcome this error without increasing the timeout. Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I understand that you get the error message when performing a full crawl. I have seen similar cases caused by IE proxy settings. You can try to edit the Internet Options>Connections>LAN settings. Uncheck ‘Automatically detect settings’.

  • How to increase cpu voltage on A75A-G35?

Please tell me how to increase cpu voltage on A75A-G35(I changed pstates in BIOS but voltage not changed!)? and then tell me range of voltage in 1-7 Pstates?
    Thanks.

Q: I cannot adjust the CPU Voltage on my A55/A75 motherboard?
A: Due to a hardware limitation on this platform, you cannot adjust the CPU voltage. However, you can adjust the NB voltage which is the same on this platform.
The NB voltage setting is below the "Advanced DRAM Configuration" and the only way to increase a cpu relating voltage on that board.

Sounds to me like the battery has failed.
You can take it to an Apple Store.  They MAY be able to do something..  Or, you can find parts and "How-To" repair guides on the internet.  eBay and Google are your friends...

I have bought 0769 A74 from the N200 series a month ago. I had installed XP SP2 from the dealer. Last week i had installed the optional components from another XP SP2 CD which I had. I don know whether its coz of tht or not... the windows boot time has increased to 2 min plus... whereas it used to take only 20 to 30 sec to start previously...
    any help is highly appreciated.

There's a 90-day warranty on the repair. Use it.

  • Cannot reinstall Lion, remaining time keep increasing

The thing is, when I was restalling Lion on my mac book pro, the remaining time kept increasing and never finish installation. What's wrong with it?

You probably will not be able to get Lion. Since you didn't buy it, it won't be available to you via download. You would need the seller's Apple ID and password to download it again. And with no online Apple Store in Israel you can't buy it from Apple. You'll either need to look for a private party selling the Lion Flash installer, which Apple sold for a while, or get a retail copy of 10.6 Snow Leopard and install that instead.

  • K9NGM-L Help!! The time keep increasing Banging head on wall

Ok here goes original problem was that the time kept increasing by about 10 mins a day. when going into the bios it has also changed by the same time as windows shows. these are the things ive tried so far:-
    1. updated bios to the latest
    2. changed motherboard battery
    3. updated windows and reloaded windows to see if it was a software problem but still the same
    4. tried taking internet time sync off and on but still does the same.
Im just banging my head on the wall now confusing me to hell. any ideas will be great.
    Thanks in advance

I did a search on google and found this:-
"Windows XP updates your system clock via the internet (provided you are connected of course) every 7 days. If you want your clock updated more often, change the interval time like this:
Press win key+R and type regedit, then press enter.
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services \W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
    Select "SpecialPollInterval"
Change decimal value from 604800 to what ever interval you want in seconds. for example: 172800 (2 days) or 86400 (1 day).
    Save and exit."
Although this does not fix the cause of the problem you have, (you may have a faulty timing crystal) it should help.

  • USB/FireWire usage increases CPU temp and fan speed

    Hi,
I'm curious, does the usage of USB and FireWire ports increase CPU temperature and fan speed...?
I have an M-Audio Fast Track USB interface plugged in and whenever I play any songs from iTunes using that interface as an output, my CPU temp increased and fan speed jumped from 2000 to 3300 rpm. And on separate occasion, an 8GB of file transfer from an external FireWire-based HDD had both fans speed up to 4,400 rpm.
Is this normal...? All these were done with an external display plugged onto the MBP with "clamshell" mode.

USB operations involves quite a bit of CPU action, Elphidieus.
Firewire places less demand on the CPU but, in a situation like the one you describe can involve both increases in power usage and in HD temperatures.
The fan speeds on Macs are not simply responsive to CPU usage. Both HD temps and power usage can also play a part in the equation that ultimately produces the fan speed. As HDs have much lower heat tolerance than CPUs you will find that it is quite common to see the fans ramp up when doing a large file transfer over FW (or USB, for that matter) , especially if the internal HD temp gets to over about 50-55º Celsius.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • B75MA-E33 - long time to post after installing most recent bios update

I installed the bios update from the product page for this motherboard and flashed it directly from the utility within the bios.  It installed fine, but after installing this update the post time has increased from about 10 seconds to anywhere between one and five minutes.  It sits on the screen with the "A2" code in the bottom right corner before loading the msi splash screen.  I searched the forum but didn't see anyone else reporting this.  Anyone have any idea what's causing this?  I verified that the settings in the bios haven't changed.

  • Mac Pro 2006 won't boot after attempted cpu swap, Mac Pro 2006 won't boot after attempted cpu swap

I just picked up a used Mac Pro 1,1 (2006).  It has 2x2.0 GHz dual-core processors and 5GB of RAM with the 7300GT card.
In this configuration, the machine was running perfectly.  I, of course, wanted to upgrade....
I ordered a pair of 5160 3.0GHz processors cheaply and followed a video tutorial to install them.  I used Arctic Cleaner and Arctic Silver 5 for the thermal paste.
Bottom line is:  I installed the two new processors and when I fired it up, I could hear the fans, optical drive and hard drives all spinning (normal fan speed - NOT "jet mode", and the HD sounds like it's spinning - NOT like it's booting).  NO boot chime and NO display.  I popped the cover off and saw the CPU B FAIL light on.  I swapped CPUs to test the processor, expecting to see the CPU A FAIL light come on.  It did not. It just powered the fans/drives with no result (again, with no boot chime and no display).
To make a long and frustrating story short, I wound up putting one of the original 2.0GHz processors in slot A, leaving B empty (maybe I damaged the socket?) and IT STILL WILL NOT BOOT.  I have tried all of my processors - the original 2.0GHz and the new 3.0GHz ones - with the same result.  There are NO symtoms or indications - no error LEDs, no beeps - no indication why this machine will not boot.
I have reset the SMC, pulled (and replaced) the coin battery, and left it unplugged for over an hour.  I have re-seated everything I can think of.
As of rigt now, I can hear the fans quietly humming with the optical drive making a quiet "click" sound as it seeks for a disk to read, and I can hear the faint chatter of the HD head.  The power LED is nice and bright (no flashes or pulses), and there are no red LEDs on inside the case.  The memory LEDs flash once during bootup and that's it (it's the RAM the machine came with).  Pressing the DIAG LED button tells me the machine has power (green LED), has trickle (yellow LED) and the GPU light flashes green.
Of note, during the swap, I got a tiny bit of thermal paste (non conductive) on the contacts of my 2.0 CPUs - which I cleaned off with alcohol and let dry.  The gold contacts all appear to be good on the original processors.  I can't really see the tiny little pins in the CPU sockets (my eyes are not as young as they used to be!), but the "look" like they're all there.
I'm going to leave this unplugged overnight, but does anyone have any ideas??  If I managed to somehow destroy ALL of the CPUs, wouldn't I get a warning LED or beep or something?  Ideas are welcome, as I cannot afford to replace this machine - it has to get me the rest of the way through college.
    thanks
    Richard

    Hello Grant
    >
Hardware sets the fans to maximum, and only properly-operating software resets them to "normal levels. If you have fans at normal levels, some software is running.
    >
That's what I was thinking, but I'm not even getting the startup chime, and the HD sounds like it's powered on but not doing anything.
EDITED TO ASK:  what software could be running at this point?  Nothing has loaded from the HD, that much I know...
    >Do you still have CPU A or CPU B failure lights?
No.  I have just one original processor installed in the CPU A socket.  No lights of any kind.  (Even if I install an original processor in CPU B, I still occasionall will get a CPU B FAIL light, so I'm thinking I damaged the socket somehow...the light will not be consistent, but it's always the CPU B FAIL light - the light only turns on some of the time (and stays on once lit) - so that's why I pulled the B processor and am simply trying to boot with A alone)
    >Do you have a flashing power on light, indicating failed or no memory?
Again, no.  I can "make" the light flash by removing the memory riser, but when I re-install the riser, the light stops blinking (with power off during removal/install, of course!)
    >Have you done the more severe SMC reset with the reset button OR:
    unplug AC power.
Yes.  I have used the SMC reset button 3 or 4 times.  I unplugged the machine and left it (with coin battery installed) for an hour.  The last thing I did last night was that I left it unplugged overnight (with coin battery removed).  I have yet to attempt a power on this morning.  I will do so and report back.
    >
    unplug AC power.
Press and hold power-on for a quarter minute to drain the power capacitors.
    Re-plug AC power.
    wait a quarter minute.
    then power on.
    >
Haven't done that one yet.  (Didnt know about it!).  Will try that second today, after attempting the initial boot up after leaving it unplugged all night.  (fingers crossed)  Of course, the capacitors are likely discharged now after being unplugged and battery-less all night, but you never know...
    >Many things have to get synchronized after a CPU swap. It may take a half-dozen reset attempts before everything lines up again and goes.
Thanks for the hope.   I will keep trying.
    >
I recommmend you remove ALL distractions: all drives, all graphics cards, all PCI cards, all USB devices -- until you get the chime nothing else matters.
Already have done so.  Last night I was down to 1 original CPU (CPU A), one memory riser with 1 set of original 1GB DIMMS, 1 bootable HD and nothing else (not even a keyboard/mouse - literally NOTHING else).   Will keep trying in this configuration.  All I really wanted last night was to hear the "bong" at power on!
Will do a bit more troubleshooting today and will report back.
    Thank you!

Back up is very slow on 2 tb time capsule. After 2 days only 60 gb of 320 gb completed. Have connected ethernet cable. Any suggestions?

Yes, that's terribly slow.  You should get somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-24 GB/hour via Ethernet, assuming there isn't a lot of conflicting network traffic or your Mac's CPU is under very heavy load.
Are you sure you're actually using the Ethernet connection, instead of WIFI?   To check, turn Airport off.  If the backup fails, it's on WIFI.  In that case, you need to set Ethernet as the "preferred" network, via System Preferences > Network.  Click the "gear" icon at the bottom of the sidebar and select Set Service order.  Then drag Ethernet above Airport.  When both Airport and Ethernet are on, that will make OSX select Ethernet over Airport.
If that doesn't help, see #D2 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • Lenovo Services/Program takes a long time to start after bootup

It seems like Lenovo services take a long time to start after boot up is completely done.
My Bootup time is less than a minute (0:51s), but my lenovo services (Power Manager Gauage, Lenovo Services in the Sidebar, have th ThinkVanatage Button work, and most annoying of all is having access to my network card to change networks) takes about 2 minutes.
Is there a reason why this is taking so long?
I've uninstalled and installed the lastest Lenovo Interface Driver, and a lot of ThinkVantage/Lenovo software and drivers.
    Any ideas?

    No response?

After it was done copying I can't find my files anywhere but the space (about 130gb) has been used on my hard drive. Does anyone know how I can get to them? I did change my user name from 'user' while it was copying, could this have something to do with it?

You don't want to do that by copying.
Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant.  If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, see Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard.
If it came with Lion, it's a bit different: Using Setup Assistant on Lion
