BSOD 0x0A after installing vmware player

After installing VMware player (newest version, VMware-player-3.0.1-227600) I get a blue screen on the following boot, it BSOD:s even with safe mode. On selecting the last known good configuration the error goes away.
The error code is INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR (a0, IMAGE_NAME:  ntkrnlmp.exe, BUCKET_ID:  0xA0_nt!PopExceptionFilter+65). Haven't seen many 0x0a errors before, googling it reveals some posts related to power supply or hibernation, but nothing related to installing vmware. Since my PSU should be of a good brand, and since the error still happens in conjuction with wmware player, it is what I suspect (haven't been using this win xp installation in about 9 months, since have been running on beta windows 7, but I don't recall having these errors before).
Obvious solution I can think of is to not install vmware player.

It has nothing to do with the hardware. Mainly vmware's problem with your Win 7 beta.

  • Trying to install Vmware Player on OEL 4-kernel 2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELhugemem

    All
I need to run a preconfigured Vmware VM on one of ours Enterprise Linux servers. I've already installed VMware-Player-3.1.2-301548.i386.bundle on the machine, no error message, but now when I try to run vmplayer I am getting the following message:
before you can run vmware, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel:
    kernel headers 2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELHugemem
kernel headers for version 2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELHugemem were not found...
I've already searched both on google and on Oracle website for a package containing this version of kernel headers, but didn't find them.
I've did an up2date -i kernel-devel, some kernel headers got installed, but it seems they are at the wrong version:
    [root@dscdap01 ~]# ls -la /usr/src/kernels/
    total 24
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Nov 2 06:59 .
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Dec 4 2008 ..
    drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 Nov 1 09:42 2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL-hugemem-i686
    drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 Nov 2 06:59 2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL-i686
As far as I can see, I have two paths for solving this:
1: update the running kernel to 2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL-hugemem-i686 - in order to do that I'll have to restart the machine, which is quite risky because this is an important machine used for many projects and I do not have physical access to it; in case something goes wrong I'll have to make an SR to the GIT guys, and pray for a quick resolution
    2. find this particular version on kernel headers (2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELHugemem), install them in a non-standard location and then point vmplayer installer to that location in order to compile and plug them into the running kernel
    Questions:
    - If I choose the 2nd path:
-- where can I find this particular kernel headers version?
-- after vmplayer compiles them, will it request a machine restart, or plugging them into the running kernel will be possible without restart?
-- I already did an up2date -u, so the entire system excepting the running kernel is updated to whatever is in Oracle's internal repositories. Will this conflict somehow with an older running kernel and modules?
-If I choose the 1th path (update the kernel itself and reboot the machine):
-- will then vmplayer be able to compile and install the kernel modules without asking for another restart?
Thanks a lot for your feedback.
Any idea is appreciated, even pointing me to someone in Oracle that might help (I am an Oracle employee) would be useful.
    Regards
    Serban

Thanks for your reply Joe. I did not realise that I shall search for the package name without "ELHugemem" part since the headers are probably the same. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
So I downloaded the i686 package, but now I get this message:
    [root@dscdap01 ~]# rpm -iv kernel-devel-2.6.9-78.0.1.EL.i686.rpm
warning: kernel-devel-2.6.9-78.0.1.EL.i686.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 82fd17b2
    Preparing packages for installation...
package kernel-devel-2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL (which is newer than kernel-devel-2.6.9-78.0.1.EL) is already installed
I am not sure if I shall do a "rpm -ivf" for this package, forcing it to install. Will this command install the package alongside the existing one, or will it overwrite it? My guess is that it will install it alongside the existing one, but since this system is an important one I would prefer to ask before doing any stupid mistake...

  • Anyone succeded in installing VMware-Player 3.1.5?

I tried the same thing as for 3.1 and didn't succeeded. I looked at that previous post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=100128

    moljac024 wrote:
Did anyone try to install VMware player using the official installer?
When it asks for the system services directory I give it "/etc/rc.d"
    After installation:
No rc*.d style init script directories were given to the installer. You must manually add the necessary links to ensure that the vmware service at /etc/rc.d/vmware is automatically started and stopped on startup and shutdown.
I think the crucial part is to
    # mkdir -p /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d
    # mkdir /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d
I just wonder if a dummy vmware-package could be constructed which just does that. There would be the benefit that these directories could also be easily removed.

  • Background audio after installing Flash Player 11

After installing Flash Player 11, I am getting unwanted background audio when I am connected to the Internet. Even though I may not be on any site at all, i still get info-mercials playing on my system, or sometimes the flash player fails. I am using Windows IE9 on a 64-bit system. Everything is enabled in my settings. Why are they releasing this product early when there is a known bug in it?

Sounds like you might have malware on your system.  I'd recommend running Malwarebytes to make sure everything checks out.

    Thanks Avi for the pointer.
I did a 'sudo -su ' and ran 'rpm -ivh kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-89.0.0.0.1.EL.i686.rpm' and it went through successfully.
But then when I launched VMPlayer, a popup came up saying " Before you run VMWare, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel.". I clicked on 'Install' to continue.
Another popup came up saying "Failed to run /usr/bin/vmware-gksu '/usr/bin/vmware-modconfig' --icon='vmware-player' --appname='VMware' --gcc='/usr/bin/gcc' --headers='/lib/modules/2.6.9-89.0.0.0.1.ELxenU/build/include' --gcc-ignore-minor as user root. The preloaded Windows XP Home SP3 has the drivers needed for the ich-7 SATA controller on the Lenovo S10e: atapi.sys, pciide.sys and pciidex.sys - It is important to load the INF package during installation as it identifies the hardware correctly to Windows. The package has a readme file on how to perform an unattended install, and Intel has more downloads and information in case you are trying to install other than XP.

  • After installing Flash Player, I lost sound on Youtube and other sites.  How do I fix it?

After installing Flash Player, I lost sound on Youtube and other sites.  How do I fix it?  I still have sound on some apps.

To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    Operating   system
    Browser
    Flash   Player version
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details.  Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    Windows
    Mac
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify the use of HTML5 by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the context menu.
    HTML5   video
    Non-HTML5 video

  • My keyboard acts up after launching VMware Player

As the title says, after i launch VMware Player, my keyboard works fine inside of VMware Player, but outside of it it acts up sometimes i can't type anything and sometimes it wont type letters for every button i hit, depending on what i'm trying to type in the keyboard will only pick up certain letters (it does pick up the keypresses).
My WM is Enlightenment 17 and the computer i'm on is a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop. Current arch kernel (3.10) and current VMware Player version too.
If i change to another terminal (such as Ctrl+Alt+F2) the keyboard will work fine within that.
If i turn off VMware Player, the keyboard will still act up.
    Edit:
I installed openbox for the purpose of running VMware Player from it in a seperate instance of X. It turns out the problem is not present there, so it's only happening in E17.

  • Plug-in failure after installing Flash player.

Having terrible trouble getting Flash player to work in Safari 6.3.1 on OS X 10.7.5
It all started after installing a beta version of Firefox... that seems to break the plug-in. I've since deleted Firefox and still have Chrome installed... Flash works in Chrome (independent Flash player etc) but I just can't get it working in Safari.
I've followed the correct uninstall instructions, visited a site, followed the "You need to install Flash blah blah..." installed it and then get the "Thank you..." screen but then just get a plug-in error message immediately in the same window.
I've got the Flash Player preference in the System Prefs window, everything is set up correctly but it just doesn't work and it's driving me mad!
Please help... I like Safari! Don't make me switch to Chrome!
    Thank you.

Ok don't panic, I've sorted it now... after more investigation it turns out Adobe have bollocked up Flash Player 13.x on Macs of a certain age (2006 - 08 I think).
Find the uninstaller and then find a download for version 12.x and all is well in the world.

  • CS 6 MAC will not open after Installing Flash Player

After installing a the latest version of the Flash Player (MAC/Yosemite/Safari) Photoshop CS6, that had been working very well for a couple of years, now it will not open, or is not responding.
I reinstalled CS6 and still it doesn't work.  The poblem may be related to the new version of Flash Player.
It there something I can do?
    Please, help.
    Thanks

  • After installing Flash player updates, Recently Closed Windows in History menu lost

    Hi Friends,
This is just an annoying problem, not really serious, I guess. Whenever I download and install Flash Player updates, History > Recently Closed Tabs, and History > Recently Closed Windows, are wiped out.
This is a problem for me, because when I log on to my computer every morning, I use History > Restore Previous Session, to get back all the tabs I had open the night before. And often also Recently closed Windows, if I had a 2nd and/or 3rd Ff window open last night. After I install Flash Player, the previous session becomes the Adobe update site. I think I can avoid losing the previous session, by making sure I open my previous session before I start the download and installation.
(I don't use fully automatic updates for Flash. I have the system alert me when it's ready, and then the next time I log on to the internet, the download popup window appears. I don't know why it waits until the next time I log on, instead of right after I click ok (and also ok on Spybot S&D and WinPatrol alerts). And I know you can't provide support for that part. But just to let you know all the relevant info :-) .)
So normally, if I've done something to lose my previous session (with all my usual tabs) (usually when I'm in a hurry and don't notice that I've opened Ff without restoring previous session) I can still get that session because it shows up in Recently Closed Windows.
But after I install the Flash update, Recently Closed Windows (and Recently closed Tabs) are both wiped out.
I'm hoping someone can sort this out, and I can just change some setting somewhere, to prevent this. Or maybe like the previous session, and remembering to open it, before I start the dl, it might just be a matter or altering my habits. I can't think of any habit changing that would work though. So that's why I'm asking all you wise Ff users :-) Hopefully it's not a bug?
Thank you very much for any insight, comments or suggestions :-D
    All best.

hello, this problem happens since the adobe installer triggers the opening of a browser window once the update is finished, which then overwrites the last session...
you could try if adding ''SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1'' to the adobe mms.cfg configuration file addresses that issue, as described here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/administration-configure-auto-update-notification.html

  • Problems after installing Flash Player 11

    OS: WIN XP 32 bit
    Browser: IE 8 32 bit
After sucessfully uninstalling previous version, and downloading latest version of Flash Player 11, computer freezes up and shuts down when trying to stream video clip, incuding clips that sucessfully played on previous version. Spent numerous hours going through Adobe's FAQs and trying mutiple suggestions with no success. To keep machine running, performed System Restore to pre Flash Player 11 condition. Please help.
    Thanks.

I chose to pass on the Hardware acceleration suggestion, and find a more permanent solution.
After another late night of working the issue, problem solved!  Flash Player 11 up and running with no problems.
    1. System restore to a point prior to downloading Flash 11 for the first time.
    2. Virus, Spyware and Malware scans.
    3. Clean Registry
    4. Windows update and Antivirus update
    5. Clean registry
    6. Download latest driver for video card
    7. Windows update and Antivirus update
    8. Clean registry
    9. Uninstall Flash Player 10 / Install Flash Player 11
Note: Though I received confirmation of successful download before, the confirmation page this time had a completely different look. It proved to be a good sign.
    10.Windows update and Antivirus update
    11.Clean registry
Flash Player working with no problems thus far.  Good Luck, and hope this info helps some.
